I kind of like it, but it definitely came out of nowhere. If this game came after Colors and Lost World where Eggman was kind of less villainous it’d make more sense, but this is after Forces which was the most evil he’s been since Unleashed back in ‘08. Maybe getting BTFO’d after he thought he had finally won mindbroke him?
I think Eggman calling her kid would be more in character, with him sometimes slipping into daughter speak during private moments.
I feel Sage can have a good dynamic with the main cast. Eggman finally has someone who can roll off of him who doesn't want to betray him, flat out doesn't like him, or isn't entirely incompetent. Now I think to round out a trio, Eggman should have a person who is a self-proclaimed rival/one-sided rivalry that the two team up with every once in a while.
Sage can also have a cute dynamic with Sonic as in her programming she wants to destroy him, but also realises that Sonic is the only one who pushes Eggman to his fullest potential, and decides to hold back whenever the killing blow presents itself.

For at least the past 15 years, every Sonic game has desperately tried introducing a new character into the cast but every single one of them has failed in one way or another. Zavok, Infinite, Chip, the Wisps, Boom characters, etc. all of these fell by the wayside and even stuff from SA1/2/Heroes/Shadow/06 basically perma-wiped from the series up until very recently. There's zero way they're going to get rid of the one new character that people actually like.

Is it bad that if they have Ian fricking around now, I wouldn't mind a game bringing back a lot of characters with a hub again, closing off little side-stories and arcs for characters long irrelevant? Gemerl still is an important result of Eggman's work, it'd be interesting to see him playing with Cream again or getting to interact with Sage, and everything's been so LIKE A LASER BEAM MY EYE'S ON YOU narrow on isolated plotlines since 2006.
it seems like they're setting that up honestly, morimoto keeps creaming his pants over sonic adventure on twitter and they set up a plotline where each character is going to have their own arc from frontiers, and now they're testing the waters with new playable characters (and hopefully using the feedback to make tails and knuckles more fun)
i dont know how much of the extended cast they'll use though, whatever business execs decided sonic friends weren't popular enough to use seems to be more welcome to bringing back the main few in a bigger role, but i'm not sure they'd feel the same about bringing back literally who the squirrel
I'm still immensely curious about those bits of Tails' flashbacks in Frontiers where the screenshots are blatantly of some modded or upscaled Adventure 1. I doubt they're remastering it proper, would've announced something like that months ago frankly, but I do feel like something is going on, just probably not anything I'd care about at this rate.

Both Lost World and Forces were intentionally vague with their villains' fate in case they wanted to bring them back later. Remember how the Deadly Six just poof out of existence in gameplay and stop being acknowledged in the story? Infinite dematerializes but it's never definitively stated he's dead after removing the Phantom Ruby.
Zavok could have worked well as Shadow's main villain. In fact, the entire Deadly Six could have been Shadow's thing, but since Sega is terrified of Shadow ever having a main role again, juggling seven characters in a side plot would be a bloated yet rushed mess.

In hindsight somehow an anime daughteru character is the first mostly-accepted humanoid as a main individual this series has had since the fricking 90's that isn't a reskin of Eggman, unless you really wanted to frick certain Sonic X girls
She's the Bowser Jr of Sonic so yeah. There will likely be times where she's just off to the side but I expect her to show up often.

It would be pretty based but I am not that fathfull in Sega.
Man, Knuckles' wall climbing feels just as janky as Sonic 06 but in the exact opposite way. Instead of being glued to the wall, he goes off at the slightest touch of the stick and hitting any boundary bumps him off. It's particularly hard to get him to behave when hitting a wall from a max ring glide, it just incentivizes me to find ways to skip as much of the challenges as possible.
I hope you set your deceleration rate up to 100 at least to fight the moronic bug of everyone being turbo slippery at anything lower
Yeah, that's not an issue and I can pull off really precise moves. It's just Knuckles who isn't as reliable due to his moveset, I also like having the max ring glide but it makes it really hard to stop and land on a floating platform compared to how easily Amy and Tails can do it.

Anyone know if there's plans for a patch? Final Horizon is fun for the most part, but it feels like it wasn't playtested enough with the constant zig zagging difficulty curve. I feel like they have to be looking at player feedback and watching for the parts that are most complained about, particularly the boss rush.

I haven't got to this meme counter yet, just finished exploring the island at the beginning with Amy/Knuckles/Tails. I'm playing on hard and have zero intention of dropping it down, wish me luck.
Gl. It's a 60 frame parry in Easy, 12 frames in normal, 8 frames in Hard, and 4 frames in Extreme.
I'm bad at explaining, but this is the strat I did in Extreme:
Giganto: begin with cycloop and spam stomp until his health stops draining/your quick cycloop bar is filled. He'll begin phase 2, you'll start by doing a quick punch and stomp once followed by an immediate quick cycloop. This time he'll try to punch you in the air, you can avoid it by spamming parry a couple times and then holding right while spamming right sidestep. Spam stomp to finish the fight. Usually takes 24-26 rings.
Wyvern: You can avoid having to parry the missiles if you hold boost and avoid the missiles by moving around the screen in wide circles. Holding boost will make you reach up to Wyvern quicker. Parry his first swipe. I used pause buffer on this fight. Atferwards you'll do 4 punch and stomp attacks followed by an immediate quick cycloop. Spam punch and stomp until you transition to the 2nd phase. On second phase avoid missiles same way and parry the two swipes. This time you'll attack beginning with a Spin Slash (X). Near the end of the spin slash, sidestep (R1/L1) and immediately hold Square to do a Cyclone Kick. Near the end of that move when you see that its done most of uts damage, sidestep again and immediately hold Square again to do another Cyclone Kick. Keep repeating that and with good timing you'll hit the first QTE. Afterbthe QTE ends do the same thing by starting a Spin Attack and using that to spam Cyclone Kick. If you time it well and spam it quick, you'll do enough damage to make it to the final QTE skipping multiple parry sections meaning you only need to do 3 parries for the whole fight.
Knight: You'll need close to 200 rings to beat him parryless. Begin fight waiting for him to attack you. You'll dodge by boosting away from him and to the side. Next boost back to his head and spam sidestep and stomp. Repeat by sidestepping after the stomp hits and stomping immediately after the sidestep. He may try circling aroud, just side step left if he tries counterclock or sidestep right if he tries clockwise. For phase 2 you'll spam Sonic Boom. You'll place Sonic in the perimeter of where he circles around and spam Sonic Boom the whole time to avoid parrying his shield. The Sonic Boom will lower your altitude eventually enough to avoid his shield projectile. But if you get too low you may miss Sonic Boom shots on him. Tap or let the button go to raise altitude. If you're not low enough keep look out for his shield and dodge of necessary. Eventually his health will drain enough causing the final QTE to begin winning you the trial in Extreme.

Holy frick that ending. I'm so glad I somehow didn't get spoiled despite somewhat lurking in the threads while playing. This is what they can do in a couple of months for a free update with a messy base? The next game better fricking deliver. There is no reason for it not to. Mostly everything about this update was great, they just need to refine it. It was funny how they brought back the original Supreme fight and made it unbelievably easy though, but it still fricking sucks. While I loved the Ikaruga fight and The End's edgy monologue (always preferred a really cool but simple final fight to a really hard but uncool one) I think I might prefer this one. Maybe if there was a part where it switched to the instrumental version of I'm Here and The End was monologuing again it'd be even better...?
I was just like you. I ended up eventually lowering down the difficulty. It is absolutely fricking braindead how bad it is, mostly because of the no rings refill between bosses. If that wasn't here, the perfect parry might've been fine... You can always switch it back afterwards so it's fine.
We'll see how it goes. I've accompished extremely hard tasks in the past through sheer stubbornness.
beat it on hard after several hours, here were my strats
Giganto:
>parry his first spin, and his slap
>move in and spam the stomp
>parry all his spins and claps from here on out
>finish with ~330 rings
Wyvern:
>parry missiles, quick cyloop, spam stomp, this takes you to the second phase in one cycle
>repeat, try to hit the tail parry so you can one get him in one more cycle but if you don't it can still work
Knight
>literally just boost into him and spam the stomp as much as possible until phase 2
>you can do this with about 140 rings (or less if you're really tight and you hit the spiky thing into him consistently)
ended up finishing with like 100 and something rings to spare when i finally did it
>go through the islands to 100% everything before going to the update
>fun enough, dragged on a bit because did it before
>get to update ouranos
>giddy the entire time, every character has awesome mobility

When I watched the gameplay trailer, I thought the Cyclone would be used for quick air dashes. No, it just fricking gives you full flight on top of Tails' own.
I saw an image of Tails in the Cyclone and I was filled with dread, expecting some continuation of SA2 gimped-Gamma ass mech controls. I flew up twice the height of the trial towers in like 2 minutes and I've never been happier.

The Director said he wanted to see Sonic 2 after finishing up on the DLC, so we're getting even more combat focus, maybe Knuckles will be a protagonist again, maybe we might actually get Super Eggman.
Honestly thinking of and rewatching the final boss, Perfect Parry isn't a problem at all, even on Hard. The problem is that the original titans are NOT designed with it in mind. For the new boss it works perfectly fine and adds a little bit of tension. They just need to not have awfully telegraphed attacks like the other titans.
Final boss is fairly easy. Only has a couple moments where you actually have to perfect parry and it's only the max ring decreasing spheres. They're pretty telegraphed and easy to react to. This extreme mode video doesn't look hard

Now, Wyvern was not made with perfect parry in mind. You're often guessing the acutal hurt window of their attack because it's really not clear. And fricking the parry sets you back a ton of rings or puts you all the way back to the start
