    Pretty much yeah.
The mobile games they've tried to push out have been flops, gu remaster flopped, there's no interest in a quadrilogy remake (no, 50,000 people is nothing, and doesn't matter), SAO completely obliterated it in the multimedia arms race by just shoving in more haremshit and fanservice.
    no point. It's dead.

I hate it, I hate it all
Why must kino like .hack be doomed to fade away while trash like SAO lives on

        Anonymous

because .hack had a TON of time to tell it's stories, across two generations of consoles, over a decade of anime, multiple manga,ln, those weird story CDs, etc, and failed to capture it's market every time.
It was a great idea, but it was too early, and didn't have anything to offset the fact it leaned very heavily on sci-fi and game elements, compared to it's contemporary competition which leaned heavily on being "real" with game flavoring.
Also the stakes of .hack are never really explained until well into the story of whatever branch of the franchise you're enjoying. //link takes like 8 hours to tell you what the frick you're actually doing by time traveling all around if you didn't know, quadrilogy doesn't really explain how aura impacts things and how data draining impacts the closed servers until outbreak, GU is just rengeki spam and garbage
they tried and failed so many times.

I agree. .hack// has a lot of things going for it but CC2 are morons who really to go at a snail's pace. I see it as a consequence of them wanting .hack// to be a crossmedia franchise rather than a game series that has other media as extras. It means whatever good ideas it has are stretched way too thin across way too wide a reach. The series started as it means to go on. One game packaged 4 times while also expecting you to watch an anime to get what's going on and the anime itself was also slow as molasses.
Also CC2 aren't good game designers. Fantastic artists, animators and even musicians, but not game designers.

I mean, SAO is clearly past its prime that even the creator moved on to another project (I think). I'm pretty sure Unital Ring got animated by now but no one watched it

Unital Ring is still going, but to be honest it should have just ended with Alicization since that was the absolute best it is going to get.

            Anonymous

That's the point, no one cared about GU. For some reason (probably easier access to the source) they opted to remaster it and finish the final chapter instead of IMOQ. They said it was because "The gameplay was more modernized" but GU was pretty universally panned because of the rengeki spam, and the remaster made it worse by overleveling you if you played even one single extracurricular dungeon past the main story, making every main story event after a complete joke.

              >They said it was because "The gameplay was more modernized"
They aren't wrong. I don't think GU is an amazing action game or anything but it's still more palatable. The average person these days would get filtered hard by IMOQ's gameplay and I have no doubt it would have bombed even harder than GU.

More like everyone should have bought the GU remaster. They were pretty much begging people to buy it and the CC2 vice president recently begged people to make noise about .hack so Bamco would consider it. They want to make .hack but it's a Bamco IP and they can't do anything unless Bamco gives them the go ahead.

It's fake anon, someone bought the domain because Bamco didn't bother renewing it. If anything it's even more proof that the series is perma shelved since they didn't care enough to make sure they kept it. Bandai and CC2 would be marketing this at least somewhat if they had this big countdown that ends in two weeks.

I have no idea why people would want an IMOQ remake outside of it being such a massive rework from the ground up that you might as well make an original game. It's like 80 hours of gameplay with maybe 3 hours of worthwhile content. Just because it has a fantastic song for Mac Anu doesn't make the whole thing worthwhile.

It's because the concept of the story is really an incredible one. Intrigue of people being trapped in a game due to their headsets causing comatose state? Players not impacted, but knowing some who are managing to crack the code and finding themselves thrust into a conspiracy of a creator that pines for his lost love.
Great characters that have actual personalities, stories, interactions, and more.
It was a proper WORLD and felt like one in a lot of ways, plus the fricking entire out of main-game experience with the BBS you can explore, the stories you can read on news sites ,etc.

I know that shit is cool but the game isn't. Specially not 4 "games" worth. Every cool idea this series has is wasted on a team who doesn't know how to take advantage of it.

          >I know that shit that is part of the game is cool
          >but the game isn’t
It’s part of the game retarf, if it’s not for you it’s not for you. I will admit though that the kind of passion and attention to detail that makes the game great wouldn’t sell to today’s ADHD-riddled animeslop connoisseurs

When it comes to their personal projects CC2 seem more invested in their furry stuff, even though the two share the same setting

It probably helps the furry games are fully owned by them. They'll do some licensed arena fighters and then splurge the money on a furry game they know will bomb. It's like those people who work for a few months and then quit, only getting another job when money is running low.

It doesn't help that discussion of this series has been monopolised by one homosexual for the past 20 years.
Old forums, the sub, the fan discord are literally all ran by him and dear god is he an awful manager.
