Convergent Evolution isn’t an official fan term, and the two that exist are explicitly very different species that evolved into a similar shape (a mole and an eel/a jellyfish and a mushroom)

It’s an evolution into a more perfect form. They truly did improve upon perfection with this, not only does it pay homage to its previous evolutions Gigantomax form by being somewhat similar to that form, it also has the theme of being a candied/dipped apple, meaning that it can be used for Halloween merchandising to an almost extreme degree. This pokemon is perfect. And I love it very much.
