former was decent. i think it was an enjoyable enough expansion on botw's base gameplay, but not changing things like the unbalanced health recovery from food and how piss easy you can make the game with armor upgrades are baffling things to keep in the game.
pikmin 4 was a pretty good time. major downsides are the godawful autolock (it worked fine in pikmin 3, why is it so bad now?) and forgettable music. every other pikmin game had music that could be a sound combination of atmospheric and memorable, but 4 only focuses on the former (with the exceptions of songs during olimar's tale, which are fine but don't reach the heights of anything in pikmin 1)

TOTK, Bayo Origins, Starfield despite everything, the System Shock remake and Street Fighter 6 so far, roughly in that order. Wonder's also good and I enjoy the online especially. Hi-Fi Rush was alright but I thought I'd enjoy it much more than I ended up doing.

AC6 has engaging action gameplay and is a breath of fresh air and a movement forward for a dormant game series.
Like bg3 it packages and streamlines something for a larger audience, but I find that it had more of interest left over and more enjoyable gameplay in spite of that.
By contrast, I'd ask you what you have that you can explain makes it better than AC6 beyond popularity.
The pacing is horrendous to start with, 2 hours in BG3 will barely get you started on an adventure that you'll barely be invested in by that point, whereas in AC6 you'd probably be barely dipping toes into the story as well but you'd at least have better gameplay and be far more integrated into making choices and being engaged by the gameplay.
BG3 is pretty, polished and very social feeling, but really what else does it offer?
The gameplay is largely similar to something like solasta (for obvious reasons), the only difference is the packaging, polish and scope.

This shit again. It's a turn based, DnD style table top system complete with dice rolls. It's an actual role playing game with extensive dialogue and branching decision trees which lead to a variety of different outcomes. It makes you think carefully about every decision you make and what you say and how you act with companions among other things. It's a role playing game in its near purest form and it's not ashamed of it. If you don't understand the risk and reward feeling you get with a system like this, you need to just stay away from actual crpgs then. Just because you want things to shoot at and blow up for your short attention span doesnt mean the gameplay you don't understand is worse.
I like other turn based games, this argument doesn't have legs to stand on.
I'd play fire emblem 7, or XCOM EW or even civ or eu iv or dragon quest 1 or 3 any day, but bg3 puts me to sleep.
The roleplaying is stilted and limited, it's a little better than something like mass effect, but beyond having actual consequences it's about the same level of quality, it's not like tabletop roleplaying at all, yet it comes with all the same pacing problems.
I think the fundamental issue here is that d and d 5.0 is just shit, but that's more conjecture than anything.

totk kind of bounced off of me, it was nice but some things felt underutilized and it felt a little too much like botw, as opposed to how majora's mask felt so much like its own thing after ocarina.
Armored core was my favorite before phantom liberty came out, solid all around, but maybe a little small in scope?
Also, a little cancer and meta heavy for a game so based on customization and making your own thing, oh well, great game all around.

AC6 and Afterimage are the best games I played that were released this year. Dead Space was good too. A lot of the bigger releases (Zelda, Starfield, BG3, Spiderman) don't interest me. I might play FF16 and Mario eventually.

really? I've been interested in it but it seems to have a mixed reception.
It's a pretty standard metroidvania but very well executed. The only problem I had with it is it starts pretty simple and so takes a little while to get going. But once you unlock more weapons and abilities (after an hour or two) it's great. The game is huge, plays great, and has good art and music (although most music is more ambient than something like Castlevania).

Also sucks that Hi-Fi Rush was basically a better concept of simplifying DMC down but still retaining the depth. I don't know. I'm not against it but I'm also a DMC fan and think its neat to see the possibility coming true.
