BG1 let's you get exploring and doesn't fricking railroad you, you can go find whatever companions you want and discover things.
If there were more opportunities to just go adventuring in 2, it would be the de facto best game.

BG3 is a spiritual successor to Dragon Age (which was a spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate) made using the Divinity engine. Wouldn't really put it against other BG games because it's not one.

I find it weird anytime a character from the previous game shows up and mysteriously drops from being max level.
I got about halfway through BG2, but I could have sworn getting higher than level 8. Wasn't the max level in that game 20? It feels strange seeing Jaheira at level 8.

I'd be playing on an iPad at work so wouldn't have mods or the desire to micromange a lot of shit
When I got to the city in the first game I could no longer keep track of my quests. The journal is simply too outdated. That was the moment when I installed mods.
With BG2, there was no problem whatsoever.
IMO neither of them are worth playing nowadays. But lots of people disagree, so there's that. You don't really need any mods, particularly if you're playing the Enhanced Edition.
DoS2 > BG3 > DoS1
baldur's gates 1 and 2 are completely unrelated games, please don't put them in the same line as larianslop.
