Wrong, Street Fighter Alpha 2 on Saturn has more animation frames and a proper sprite-based intro sequence and it doesn't use any extra RAM.

You can also choose the music from the first game, as well as the intro sequence and title screen (except it says vampire Hunter/Night Warriors instead of Vampire/Darkstalkers).
Too bad they didn't include the character select screen of the first game, I love it, but still being able to have the first game's colors and music is great fanservice enough.

Wasn't that because HSF2 did that to begin with? I mean shit like Fei Long's flag changed because in the time since the original version of the game with him and Hyper came out, HK didn't have that flag anymore.
I believe it had a challenge mode that wasn't in the Dreamcast version. Hence the "Chaos Tower" subtitle. It is otherwise the Dreamcast game. A lot of early PSP games were Dreamcast ports, I assume because the architecture was similar.
The PS2 collection is more like the SF Alpha Anthology, in that they actually added shit to the games. Not as much, but notably you can play as an Evil Donovan: Dee. Has an ending and everything.
Kinda' wish they brought that back somehow, but I'm sure the source is lost. Same with Hyper Street Fighter Alpha.
Vampire Hunter on Saturn is pretty good, missing a few animation frames but nothing too big, still has most of them and is very fluid (it has full animation if you unlock the secret options and enable it for mirror matches though). But it's cool that gameplay is identical to arcade and it has the option to use the first game's music and colors. Also has the option to avoid loading screens in exchange of a more sober character select screen, so that's neat.
Vampire Savior on Saturn is the best version of it though IMO. Arcade perfect as far as animation frames goes, no loading times at all other than 5 secs when you start the game, and has the Hunter characters.

Because the collection was going for the arcade versions but give everything training mode, adjustable cpu difficulty, and rollback. Also they gave us both versionf of Vsav anyway so we got all the characters regardless. It still means playing a game with push-block bullshit which is why DS2 is better

This was countered by the fact that offense was still stronger than defense in those games. Push-block is TOO strong in Vsav despite offense being real good in that game. Remember, Darkstalkers Revenge also had really good defense, but the offense was so high that it didn't matter.

If you mean Morrigan, I guess the standard light green hair, but Lilith is superior due to that e-girl appeal. If you mean game release, I guess the PS2 version since it has the complete roster with Dee, Marionette, and Shadow. It also has the advantage of allowing use of Sega Saturn controllers. I do think the two Hunter games plays the best, but Savior has the most unique play mechanics that stand out. It is hard to choose.

There is, but I can't afford the actual arcade boards. Besides, even the old arcades did not have all the characters. So long as you're not playing competitively, the PS2 is passable, otherwise the original arcade boards are the way to go.

Out of curiosity, are any of the newer fighting games worth playing? Even though the west ate it up, I’ve been reading Japanese user reviews of Guilty Gear Strive and it sounds like the usual instance of a new, completely different game wearing an old games face.
Granblue looked like it was shaping up to be really good, but I guess Covid killed its up and coming status and I don’t know how the online life is. I did like how it wasn’t the usual 20 hit combo air dashing anime fighter though. Really it would just be nice to play a solid fighting game with a consistent online life.
I keep hearing really good things about it. The sad thing is that it just looks like the sort of fighting game with a really short lifespan, but maybe I’ll just go ahead and pick it up tomorrow. For some reason it really caught my eye, and it didn’t look like the average anime fighter.
I’ve just been so burned by everything after SF4. 5 was a messy let down at launch. DBFZ, while it looked cool and had a lot of fan service, just fell into the loop of: get tapped, watch the screen as the other player does a 50+ hit combo for a while. Tap other player, do a 50+ hit combo yourself for ever decreasing damage. Guilty Gear was DLC ridden, and I got so desperate I actually tried to get into the new Smash but even then it was just not my cup of tea. What makes me sad is I used to be a HUGE fighting game fan, but nothing has been able to capture that level of fun or hype since 2008.
I honestly hadn’t seen anything about it I’m on /vr/ for a reason after all. The lackluster SF6 gameplay reveal just had me wanting to play a good new fighting game though because, as I said, the last real bit of fun I had with the genre was SF4 and before that Alpha 2 on a friends arcade cabinet as I cycled through my various friends at the time.

Wrong, Street Fighter Alpha 2 on Saturn has more animation frames and a proper sprite-based intro sequence and it doesn't use any extra RAM.

You can also choose the music from the first game, as well as the intro sequence and title screen (except it says vampire Hunter/Night Warriors instead of Vampire/Darkstalkers).
Too bad they didn't include the character select screen of the first game, I love it, but still being able to have the first game's colors and music is great fanservice enough.

Generally no, unless it's just some specific personal fondness. It's pretty much an all around improvement in every way, with most of the awkward elements of the first game removed and the additions fleshing things out a lot. And if you did like the stage colors or soundtrack from the first game, the Saturn port did let you pick those.
And apparently Psygnosis kept running behind schedule so badly that eventually Capcom had to fly them over to Japan and put them under direct supervision to make them finish the port.
I prefer Alpha 1 over 2 and 3. Maybe there are darkstalker fans with the same mindset.
nobody has this mindset, fighting games get multiple versions for a reason, because while the initial release lay a lot of groundwork and budget, the gameplay itself is often pretty bad.

I haven't really been having issues getting fights, generally within a minute. But admittedly, I will get matches WAY faster if I put Puzzle Fighter in the queue as well.

I believe it had a challenge mode that wasn't in the Dreamcast version. Hence the "Chaos Tower" subtitle. It is otherwise the Dreamcast game. A lot of early PSP games were Dreamcast ports, I assume because the architecture was similar.
The PS2 collection is more like the SF Alpha Anthology, in that they actually added shit to the games. Not as much, but notably you can play as an Evil Donovan: Dee. Has an ending and everything.

Vampire Hunter on Saturn is pretty good, missing a few animation frames but nothing too big, still has most of them and is very fluid (it has full animation if you unlock the secret options and enable it for mirror matches though). But it's cool that gameplay is identical to arcade and it has the option to use the first game's music and colors. Also has the option to avoid loading screens in exchange of a more sober character select screen, so that's neat.
Vampire Savior on Saturn is the best version of it though IMO. Arcade perfect as far as animation frames goes, no loading times at all other than 5 secs when you start the game, and has the Hunter characters.

Because the collection was going for the arcade versions but give everything training mode, adjustable cpu difficulty, and rollback. Also they gave us both versionf of Vsav anyway so we got all the characters regardless.

Defending push-block is just contrarianism at this point. The pros all hate push-block, parry mechanics, anything that makes games too defensive because they become not as fun to play. There were a bunch of big name Japanese FGC players groaning when they saw that SF6 was bringing back parries.
Mvc2 has pushblock which allows for technical escapes, cvs2 has parry and everyone loves K groove with its just defend. Both are at the tippy top of fighting games in the minds of casuals and hard core players.

This was countered by the fact that offense was still stronger than defense in those games. Push-block is TOO strong in Vsav despite offense being real good in that game. Remember, Darkstalkers Revenge also had really good defense, but the offense was so high that it didn't matter.

If you mean Morrigan, I guess the standard light green hair, but Lilith is superior due to that e-girl appeal. If you mean game release, I guess the PS2 version since it has the complete roster with Dee, Marionette, and Shadow. It also has the advantage of allowing use of Sega Saturn controllers. I do think the two Hunter games plays the best, but Savior has the most unique play mechanics that stand out. It is hard to choose.

Out of curiosity, are any of the newer fighting games worth playing? Even though the west ate it up, I’ve been reading Japanese user reviews of Guilty Gear Strive and it sounds like the usual instance of a new, completely different game wearing an old games face.
Granblue looked like it was shaping up to be really good, but I guess Covid killed its up and coming status and I don’t know how the online life is. I did like how it wasn’t the usual 20 hit combo air dashing anime fighter though. Really it would just be nice to play a solid fighting game with a consistent online life.

I keep hearing really good things about it. The sad thing is that it just looks like the sort of fighting game with a really short lifespan, but maybe I’ll just go ahead and pick it up tomorrow. For some reason it really caught my eye, and it didn’t look like the average anime fighter.
I’ve just been so burned by everything after SF4. 5 was a messy let down at launch. DBFZ, while it looked cool and had a lot of fan service, just fell into the loop of: get tapped, watch the screen as the other player does a 50+ hit combo for a while. Tap other player, do a 50+ hit combo yourself for ever decreasing damage. Guilty Gear was DLC ridden, and I got so desperate I actually tried to get into the new Smash but even then it was just not my cup of tea. What makes me sad is I used to be a HUGE fighting game fan, but nothing has been able to capture that level of fun or hype since 2008.
Strive completely redesigned all character movesets, don't need an EVO autist to notice this.
I honestly hadn’t seen anything about it I’m on /vr/ for a reason after all. The lackluster SF6 gameplay reveal just had me wanting to play a good new fighting game though because, as I said, the last real bit of fun I had with the genre was SF4 and before that Alpha 2 on a friends arcade cabinet as I cycled through my various friends at the time.
It does, and if I wasn’t so autistic about having physical copies I probably would have bought it already. That being said, I’m probably gonna prioritize DNF as it doesn’t look like it got a big physical release at all for some reason.
And nabbed a copy off Amazon Warehouse for 10 bucks off. I figure if it’s genuinely in bad condition I’ll just send it back. Hopefully it’s as fun as it looks, because no fighting game has caught my eye quite like this one since SF x Tekken… and we know how that one turned out. Good on Arcsystem for the price point though.
