No you aren't. Trainers barely give any exp. You won't be overleveled at all unless you grind catching wild Pokemon.
Meanwhile in Gen 5 you can get 10+ levels above the gyms by the time you're halfway through the game simply by playing the game normally.

You're right, it is a sliding scale. In LGPE I have a chance to lose to the Gambler who uses an overleveled Fissure Diglett. In Gen 5 I have no chance of losing to anyone.

I hate to bump this shitty post, but there are a few things
the mystery house has two more rooms, granite cave's structure is more encouraging to exploration, new mauville and sky pillar are more proper dungeons, and I prefer the battle engine
but oras has some definite improvements and you'd have to be really value dungeons to prefer base rs
There's no actual difference between a good game and a good pokemon game , same with a bad game/bad pokemon game. The author is just trying to make himself look intelligent.
Not to mention this list doesn't particularly make much sense. ALL of Alola in Bad Game? That's just absurd, USUM has some of the finest battles in Pokemon along with Emerald, Platinum, and PLA. BW1 is also the blandest Pokemon honestly, like seriously there's more interesting gameplay going on in RBY, GSC, RSE, DPPT (yes DP), XY, USUM, PLA, and even SwSh and SV. I'm not saying BW is the worst pokemon game despite saying it's the white bread of pokemon, but being one of the only games to deserve the title of Good Game? Ridiculous.
