Partners in time is a good game and I'm tired of you morons pretending it's not

It's an okay game, inferior to the games that preceded and immediately succeeded it.

People hate partners in time because the final boss has a shit ton of HP but I love the game because of that. The game is also was way more serious than other Mario games and that's ok for me

Each turn taking 40 seconds for a bros item is why people harp on it, also the battle OST is weak considering how long battles can take. That's just why I personally don't want to revisit it.

It was fine. It has jank in it and questionable design decisions but i still like. I would say its best aspect is that is probably the hardest game in the subfranchise, enemies hit like a truck and the timing is hard, specially in the castle.
In any case, i still like it better than SSS but not as much as BiS (and DT)

    >ignores the part where Peach was kidnapped again
AlphaDream died because they let their single series become saturated and they couldn't manage to escape the 3DS. There was no profitable reason for Nintendo to save the company itself, and even then the overall story of M&L basically ended already with Dream Team.

That said, they clearly poached a lot of specific employees off the company. We finally got to see some in the credits of Tears of the Kingdom, and I have a strong feeling some of the artists are on Wonder looking at both the general style and enemy designs. Seriously, the latter is very akin to how AlphaDream typically designed them, compared to the designs of the NSMB and 3D Land days.

That is unironically what they should have done, they just didn't have the talent or experience. They put all their eggs in one basket acting like a first party studio when Nintendo didn't give a single shit about them

Can I toss on the fact that ADF took on 10milYen in dent due to mobage bullshit?
How about the fact they outright REFUSED to train up staff on 3d HD game design, modeling, or texturing?
They never made their own unique IP unlike Grezzo with Ever Oasis.
Never offered to lend staff to assist in Nintendo dev projects like Monolith or Grezzo.
AD killed themselves, it was solely their own fault.

Same here. I liked how the story was consistently dark with genuine heartfelt moments, especially during the ending where the past and present version of the brothers must say goodbye to each other.
It's a shame they fricked this with BiS since the story is poorly written with tons of unfunny jokes.
Also this character is a fricking butthole and ruins most of the game for me.

Paper Jam was fricking killed in its cradle. Sticker Star had come out and branded Paper Mario heretical by the time it had been announced, and that was after Super already took a chunk out of it. All of BIS's good will was drained by Dream Team's constant fricking tutorials (even if there's a decent game under there). There was NOBODY left to care about it by that time, and the Switch wasn't a twinkle in the eye yet.
The SS Remake really needed to come out on Switch if it had any chance in hell at succeeding. If it had come out in the forefront of the Switch lifespan, it would've gone a lot better with the traction that console ended up gaining.

          >Remakes did

That's delusion, a cheapo remake or two isn't going to destroy a company. The whole point of them is that they're easy money because most of the game is designed for them.

            Anonymous

It's "cheap" for big companies, not for smaller development companies. Also even these "cheap" games still cost money and if you can't make profit from them, of course they'll go bankrupt. Also there are cases of Japanese companies that had successful products that print money but they had huge debts for one reason or another like Gainax.

It will destroy a company when it's all they make, and they sell less than the Virtual Boy.

            >Most of the game is designed for them.
For definitely worse, they added a new game mode to each. Not to mention that they redid every single asset.

        Remakes did

Reminder that the 3DS was fully backwards compatible with DS games. They remade Bowser's inside Story, a DS game, for the 3DS even though the original was already perfectly accessible and playable on the 3DS alone. Of course the remake bombed.

It was such an awful choice on AD's part to keep pushing for the 3DS remakes aside like holy shit. They were probably scared or felt they weren't ready to do a purely 3D M&L if they felt they had to move on from sprites, but I'd have rather they'd try and fail moving over than just fail because people were abandoning the 3DS in droves.

Had A&D focused on porting the first 3 games to Switch as some kind of RPG collection instead of their remakes when the 3DS was on death's door, they would have still been kicking. The Switch was new but had no RPGs, and Mario+Rabbids showed that people were specifically desperate for more Mario titles.

They couldn't afford to port their engines to Switch. They had over $4million on debt in 2018 because they borrowed a load of money presuming Dream Team would outsell BIS. But it sold like half as much.

Alphadream committed the same Seppuku Final Fantasy is. They just kept raising their budget until they failed even if they sold millions.

It's not Nintendo's fault and Paper Jam was clearly a futile attempt to step down but too late.

Alpha Dream killed themselves and no one else is to blame.
Paper Jam was a mediocre uninspired mess with nothing to make it stand out.
The went back to Super Saga "to learn from the past" but all they did was massacre Super Saga into an unrecognizable tragedy.
Bowser's Inside Story remake wasn't butchered but it was also not really needed or asked for, and they released when the Switch was already released and dominating.

It's not Nintendo's job to act as Super Man and save all these morons bringing themselves to bankruptcy.

If sales meant shit to Nintendo they wouldn't have backeddalled so hard they went up Niagra falls just to get away from Super Paper Mario despite it having the best sales in the series. Admit that the company is run by stupid autistic bugmen who'll always put their delusions of what makes a "fun" Mario game first.

  21. 10 months ago

not really, alphadream died cuz they insisted on remaking ds games for the 3DS OF ALL THINGS.

you know, the 3ds as in the console that CAN ALREADY PLAY DS GAMES.
if they hadnt remade those games and instead made a new mario and luigi game, they wouldnt have died.

Except they were in over $4million of debt in 2018 so they were less able to actually afford to port their engine or develop on Switch than a start-up indie company lol. That's why they were stuck on 3DS.
