Hunting was amazing to be sure. I got some sick satisfaction in that. Spent ages in that village fishing, training, and hunting. Forgot the main story, many such cases.
Everything about the hostess club in 0 was so comfy, taking to the girls, managing your lineup, listening to the club's music. It was really addicting.
Yeah same. 7's business management minigame was so fricking shit in comparison, i hope they make 8's better because that shit was the weakest business management in any of their games and i hated how you didn't actually amass all the wealth but only got shitty paychecks after slapping the investors mindlessly by button mashing. So fricking bad.
1st: Karaoke, no contest.
2nd: tie between Hostess Club, Pocket Circuit, Clan Creator, baseball and dices. Yes, I'm indecisive frick who can't pick one.
yakuza minigames never clicked with me, i suppose real estate was fun because lots of money and karaoke is fun enough even for just the songs.
today is a diamond will always be #1
How is Hibiki with jav? I always kinda interested with her but have never actually watch her videos from start to finish yet. How is she compared to Ai etc.
i wish they would remove mahjong, because now that i've learned it i keep catching myself playing it for hours instead of the rest of the game. it's addictive, man.
favorite minigame is hostess club, i guess. honorable mention to the turtle races in kenzan, i love the concept but it's not that fun in the end.
I wish the Haruka rhythm game shit was complete garbage. I wish the button presses and music would actually sync and I wish there were more than 5 songs and dances. God I fricking hate that mini game what the frick were RGG thinking? Couldn't they get some help from the Project Diva guys?
Havent played it in 2 years but that put a smile on my face, thanks anon.
This was one of the reasons ofc, also fever time and hanging out with the girls and experience majimas non psycho moments.
Also the top tier girls are all jav actressess (afaik except yuki)
hostess club and the racing car mini game, the one where you get a 10 year old as a girlfriend because she only dates the best racers, and that turns out to be you. That was comedy gold.
I feel like typing the character's ages to present day was a double edged sword; in Yakuza 7 Majima and Saejima are 54, Kiryu is 50, Ichiban and Daigo are 42, Adachi is 59, and Haruka is 23. But Yakuza 7 was set in 2019 so add 3 more years to bring everyone up to speed and all the sudden we're having the same problem of protagonists getting too old again.
They might intend for Ichiban not to last as long as Kiryu did in terms of games and instead also send him off to the spinoff mines in between mainlines to get the most use out of him. That would at least make sense when it comes how old they made him. Even Yagami is only what, late 30s?
Kiryu is a fricking terrible protagonist for telling any story deeper than “Always b urself, always do right thing.”. He’s an invincible iron wall that can punch his way out of any problem, and any problem he can’t he has a full speech prepared for. He can even punch his way out of problems caused by him punching his way out of problems.
I mean that's kind the point. Yakuza isn't meant to be a particularly deep series. These are basically like summer blockbuster flicks in video game form. Granted, six (seven) games with him might have been a tiny bit excessive, but they sort of achieved what they were going for with these games.
Fundamentally, if you're planning to portray your protagonist as anything BUT invincible and wanted him to have any sort of depth, you wouldn't have him fight off two tigers with just his fists in the second game.
Your info is about a decade old. Ever since Sega bought Atlus and had some Atlus USA staff helping with localization for the Yakuza series, the output exponentially increased. They even used the PS4 re-releases of 3, 4, and 5 as an excuse to completely re-do those games and give them a better translation. There's one or two things lost along the way like 3's troony chase or Akiyama laughing at the idea of someone wanting to rape Hana (though he still clearly says REIPU in the spoken dialogue), but overall you're getting a better experience, especially with 3, which got hacked to pieces in the original western PS3 release.
It wasn't even a real gun that he got shot with. It was an improvised weapon made of tubes, plywood, and a whole lot of duct tape.
NO FRICKING WAY. ABE "make more hentai so that we can live long and have many kids" was shot and died? Goddammit this is a sad day for Japan.Whats wrong with these people.
that's 0, you dumb frick.
7 had the most successful LAUNCH in the west, but 0 has sold more and is way more popular on average.
there's a reason people meme kiryu and majima way more.
0 saved the series or you can argue even 5 did because they both led to the wave of releases that would follow (K1 and 6 were confirmed but nothing after that). 7 had the most successful launch but if it actually sold 1 million copies they wouldn't have stopped telling us about that so we know it most likely didn't hit that mark. Since they shouted at us from the rooftops that 6 sales matched Japan's at the time (Which were something like 400k or 500k) I doubt it's any more than that. We already know Judgment sold over a million once the Remastered release came out because they outright told us that.
We also know 0, K1, 6, K2, and FotNS had to have at least sold within the range of 250k to 500k each because they're "Playstation Hits" titles. Those carry the requirement of a certain amount of sales before they get branded as such.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greatest_Hits_(PlayStation) >On July 28, 2008, the program was introduced on the PlayStation 3. A PlayStation 3 game must be on the market for 10 months and sell at least 500,000 copies to meet the Greatest Hits criteria. PlayStation 3 Greatest Hits titles currently sell at $29.99.
The amount has always fluctuated between 250k-500k sales but they're roughly around that level.
It still sold less in Asian regions despite that though, which puts into perspective how much less digital games sell over there
The older titles were reported to have broken 500k copies over there outside of spinoffs, while 7 didn’t.
It's not just the RNG. The battle system is hyper-basic and one of the more boring turn-based games. The overall world design is painfully linear, the whole game is just a series of interconnected hallways. The story is boring, the characters have no depth, their relationships are bare-bones, X has no charisma.
As a Mega Man game it fails on several levels. In a Mega Man X RPG, I would have expected X to play the Blue Mage role, getting new skills as you defeat bosses. But he doesn't do that. I would have expected him to get various different armors which change his abilities. TECHNICALLY that KINDA happens but he only gets two armors and one of them is a hidden broken super-armor that eliminates any need to use the other one.
IIRC the current composers took over with either Kiwami 2 or Lost Paradise and those games and both Judgments have great OSTs. I don't know why the frick Y7's is so bad beyond it just being par for everything else from the game i.e. shit.
What would the series be like if Nishikiyama never died and stuck around? Would he be freed from prison by 6? I'd like to imagine he is freed and then runs into Kiryu one last time and they make amends by fighting side by side or some shit
i've only played yakuza 0 and the PS2 versions of 1 and 2, can i play like a dragon or do i need to get through the rest of the series first (im kind of dreading having to play yakuza 3 because people say its the worst one)
3 is the comfiest game ever made
I didn't think I was capable of getting hooked on non-/egg/ games anymore, but it got me
although that was more than a year ago and I've only gotten more jaded since
Honestly I had a genuine laugh at getting hit by my first car. In all the other Yakuza games that had traffic, none of them hurt you they just kinda stopped in time or bumped into you with no collision so imagine my surprise when I just ran into the street then got ragdolled by a car. There was a time in early game when I was running around the big park in the north east, got hit by a car and some thugs caught up to me and dropped Ichi. That was some real 'the game fricked me!' moment.
also give me all your dank yakuza memes, my folder is light
Yes but 7's a bit more than usual because it's a JRPG. You can see them on your minimap long before you actually encounter them and in the vast majority of cases you can just take an alternate route.
Most of the time in 7 you can juke and avoid encounters unless you get unlucky and you're stuck in a corridor. However once you get to dungeons encounters are almost impossible o avoid because you don't have enough time to evade their sight.
yes, but the difference is in 7, every fight is a pseudo-loading screen, then shitty menus that take forever. the rest of the games are beat em ups, so random fights are fun because you just obliterate everyone to amazing music.
This may not be what you want to hear... but I consider you my brother, man. That means something to me. Don't make me watch my brother die. Please? I can't do it. Masato? I’m begging you.
God that line and that whole ending scene is so good. I think the English Dub works more for me for Ichi. He sounds so natural doing it and it's the ideal voice in my head for his character.
Yes. They need to bring it back and start really jumping the shark hard too like Kiryu is attacked while exploring the moon by Majima hiding in a crater.
The way he spoke when Nishiki and Ichiban were choked up with tears made me realize that whoever the voice actor was behind them was something special.
I have begun playing several Yakuza games. I guess I'm a bit of a weeb; so much so that I actually watch videos of some guy simply walking through Japan on youtube. I have never actually completed any of these games.
Well yeah, they said they're going to remake it (I.e. Kiwami it) which would be the worst thing you could ask for.
https://jpgames.de/2021/02/interview-daisuke-sato-on-the-past-and-future-of-the-yakuza-series/
Translation patch is still in the works for both Kenzan and Ishin so there's hope for that at least. The PS4 version of Ishin is already technically what you'd see in a "Remaster" even if it's a port since it's 1080p and 60 FPS without issues.
He did the best he could with what he had, and that's fairly admirable. I want to point out that the last Chairman was an evil cultist and the one before him died offscreen. Meanwhile, the Omi Alliance went through four different Chairmen over the course of the games and we never even see two of them. All we know is Kurosawa killed the previous head and the last head was so unimportant that Tendo was doing his job despite just getting out of jail in Y7.
I just started playing kiwami 1. My first Yakuza experience. What should I expect? Was thinking of playing 0 after Kiwami 2. I’m scared I’ll run out of steam though.
I dunno why people keep saying they're afraid of burning out playing the Yakuza series. During covid I marathoned the series from 0 to 7 doing all the side missions (except board games because frick mahjong) and never felt burnt out.
I did the same in 2021 0=5>7>K2=4>6>K1>3
Pacing is way better doing side content, especially when you're mentally taking a break from the "real game" doing completion cleanup in PA. Doing only the main story eight games in a row would be shit by comparison.
Because it's very easy to burn out on them. I got burnt out after doing 1-2-Kenzan, then 3-4-DS, then 5-Ishin-0-K1-6 (I wasn't even prepared for 6 but the demo glitch gave me a second wind), then K2-FotNS. Some people are different, some of them can only stand one game and then need to take a break. In between all those games I played other games for a day or two and that wasn't enough to stave off a burnout.
it's fricking insane that so many delusional morons on this website genuinely think 7 isn't the second most liked Yakuza game after 0. it even ended up 3rd on the Ganker poll for best game of 2020 while lost judgment, a game with great action combat and fun mini games, didn't even finish in the top ten and barely had threads by comparison. the game is by far the most popular Yakuza on steam after 0, player numbers spike massively with every sale, it has 93-94% positive reviews on steam. yeah, 0 saved the series and probably is still above it but it's the best dragon engine game and the most loved dragon engine game. everywhere you go you can see that even on Ganker
>and barely had threads by comparison
7 was on every single system under the sun and had advertisement pushes by Microsoft in particular to sell the SeX while appearing in tons of videos about new games for the new systems. LJ was on PS4, PS5, Xbone, and SeX with next to no advertisement and wasn't on PC. We did have threads here for about two weeks which was roughly as long as Judgment had threads and 7 only had threads for 3 or so weeks before it tapered off.
You should probably play 0 first. Kiwami 1 and 2 are sequels to 0, and have content that only makes sense if you’ve played 0. In my opinion though, you should try playing through the series in release order. There was even a patch that came out recently that gives you a more accurate translation of the original PS2 Yakuza 1.
I did like 100% in Yakuza 0 and then started Judgment and immeaditely it feels repetive. Like I'm not gonna replay the same arcade games, shogi, poker, etc all over again.
Once you do it once in one game, it seems like you should just do main story and side missions in every other game
It's easy to get burnt out if you do these back to back, especially if you've just 100%'ed one. I usually take a few months between RGG games so I don't become disenchanted.
And yeah, I never bother going completionist either, FRICK Mahjong.
should i go back and finish 7?
i lost interest after my immersion was shattered by the double locker baby incident. is there any point?
yes i know yakuza story writing is contrived, le rubber bullets, but that shit was just too absurd.

the consumers can affect the quality of a product though.
walmart and carnival cruises themselves are great. but because theyre affordable it brings in a lot of human trash. same is true for major AAA normalgay core games. breath of the wild is a pretty alright game, like 7.5/10, but the swathes of people sucking its dick just makes you feel gross playing it
What is this fricking cope post lol
Do you people need to repeat this tripe to yourselves the moment you see people with an opinion that isn’t something that matches your own
Delusional and sad >I-it’s the most well liked after 0, l-look at steam. Look!
There’s a world outside of steam, the small vocal fanbase in the west, and there’s clearly a sizable amount of people that don’t like it as much.
Stop caring, you giant b***h.
>while lost judgment, a game with great action combat and fun mini games, didn't even finish in the top ten
Because it's not on PC and everyone here plays on PC. Also I don't know why you care how popular it is. I fricking loved 0 so it's not like I just hate popular things, I was flabberghasted when I kept playing the game and realized it doesn't get any better.
Dead Souls. Of the mainlines it's usually a toss up between 1, 3, and 6 depending on who you ask but usually 1 is considered near the bottom just because it's pretty barebones and the start of it all where they were still winging it. 0 and K1 have sort of elevated the perception of it because of Nishiki's character building but I wouldn't say by that much really. Doesn't mean any of these are terrible games they're just lacking some stuff that other games did well or have their own issues.
which games have the most coombait with panty side quests, dominatrices, hostesses, upskirts, etc
Nah, 7 is extremely tame. At best you have the walls of Otohime Land and the Night Queen stuff but that's more or less it.
Kenzan has waterfall training which has girls posing in bikinis saying suggestive stuff in addition to the kunoichi substory.
Ishin has the geisha minigame where she's constantly undressing or having her clothes fall down.
0 has the entire telephone minigame, catfighting, several substories surrounding sexual stuff, and the cards unlocking gravure videos.
K1's got catfighting but in an insect theme and that's about it.
6 has the strip show live chats with Anri Okita and the other chick.
K2 has the gravure photography with two other chicks.
speaking of judgment not being on pc, are the judgment games available on PS5 or xbox series x?
Yes to both. The Remastered version of the original is inferior due to the 60 FPS causing framepace issues, it having the new lighting from 7, and it using VF2/Outrun instead of Pinball from Steam and Puyo Puyo. You can just play the original PS4 version on PS5 and keep everything but it's 30 FPS instead of 60 and you have to buy the cheat DLC that comes free on Remastered. Xbox only has the Remastered version even on an Xbone.
LJ's fine on all systems.
Not that anon but thanks for the breakdown, Shenmue fan here who only ever played the demo for Y1 back when it was on PS2 iirc, been wanting to slowly ease into this franchise when the mood strikes
You forgot to mention 4 and 5 that have after bath housesauna (no idea what to call it) minigame in form of table tennisair hockey where you get heat bar by starring at your opponent's bouncing breasts. Haruka including.
Speaking of Xbox, when the frick are they gonna add FPS Boost to Kiwami 2? It's the only Yakuza game on Series X that doesn't run at 60.

Probably whenever they need to do another batch of them, but keep in mind 60 breaks K2's physics. Did they avoid that issue with 6 when they added FPS boost to it?

>Did they avoid that issue with 6 when they added FPS boost to it?
I actually don't know. From what I hear, it tricks the game into running at a higher framerate, thinking it's actually doing the standard 30 or whatever. It can cause a slight hit to the game's resolution, but it makes everything smooth as frick. The only real issue I had with FPS Boost is one single level setpiece not working right in Sonic Generations. Aside from that, it makes games look wonderful, and you can even deactivate it if you don't like it.

>Shindo betrays the Tojo clan so he can tap this
Not bad
I enjoyed it despite not liking the combat change to turn based shit. Feels like they should just concentrate on improving a real time action combat, because when they did it right, it was way more interesting and unique compared to hey let's just slap a subpar turn based combat like all those other JRPGs that do it
No-go for the foreseeable future. You can stream the two of them via Stadia and Amazon Luna but that's as close as you're getting right now. They'd probably sooner continue the games on console to be perfectly honest.
>he is a bad guy >omg he is actually a good guy >he is a good guy >omg he is actually a bad guy >he killed me >omg he actually saved me >they are in our trap >omg they are doing it on purpose, we are actually in the trap
The story is so fricking stupid
Personally think the game wouldve been better without the MC going to prison and there being a time skip.
And all the reveals were dumb + too much crying from MC.
>o villain in the series comes close to being as good as Kuze and Sagawa.
okay but for me? it's the fat lunatic in 3 that pulls a giant stone decoration out of the wall.
Yakuza 8 getting delayed and heavily re-written I can see it now. 7 was heavily into the politics and angle and left loads of room for follow up with the ending. Its fricked.
>I think they were trying to make Kume into the next game antagonist
I viewed it more as them giving Ichiban a moral dilemma to think about and try to get past once 8 happens in full. LJ seems to imply they already get past the whole fiasco since no one mentions it, they only talk about the underworld.
>are in an alternate universe
LJ is literally a direct sequel to 7 and they reference it multiple times. The entire main story relies on 7 having happened. We also know it's not an AU because Yagami meets Ono Michio's manager who directly talks about Kiryu and Amon talks about Yagami only retaining the title of "Strongest man" for a year.
Shin is in 7 as is the Yagami Detective Agency, Genda's lawfirm, and Charles.
What year does LJ take place in?
December 2021. 7 is 2019.

>Shin is in 7 as is the Yagami Detective Agency, Genda's lawfirm, and Charles. >lazily reusing assets means its canon!!
How about: no. Its simply a case of RGG studio being lazy as frick, as usual. Like how they didn't bother to make K1/K2 Kamurocho match the originals - thus making various locations be there when they shouldn't have been..

Moose
Except they didn't lazily reuse the map because 7 doesn't have the Secret Lab in it. They purposely added those landmarks into it because LJ has that specific part of the map added back into it. 7 even has Club Amour in it.
>they're gonna make the guy whose facial animation they didn't even complete the next antagonist.
I don't know why people think this. I thought it was pretty obvious he was arrested off screen after all that shit went down.
It takes a very long time. It's roughly chapter 6 if I remember right. It's like in Judgment when the game didn't start until Shintani died, a major event has to happen that kickstarts a bunch of revelations before you finally get moving.
I seriously cannot get myself to finish Y7. I loved all the previous Yakuza games (or at least liked 2 and 4), but frick man. I seriously just do not like this game.
I just hope the turn based combat will be massively improved in 8 now that they've had the opportunity to test the waters, or add a bit more real time combat to the mix, would be fun to see how Ichi handles in that sort of system. Speaking of real time combat, wouldn't it be cool if the studio would release a full Yakuza game with Majima as the protagonist?
Well yeah, personally I was thinking of setting it somewhere between 0 and 1, maybe the time frame when Kiryu is in prison. I've read that for many who started out with 0, Majima's personality difference between 0 and the rest of the series was rather jarring so I'm just saying that setting a Majima story with beat em up mechanics could help with developing his personality as bit more
>finally give up on the pc port and start playing Judgment on my PS4 >all that loading time and 30fps after playing 6 and 7 on PC
Frick, it's hard going back to this.
SeX and PS5 both have issues with frame pacing but I only have a link talking about it on the PS5 side (Check the comments):
https://www.backwards-compatible.com/games/judgment/
SeX can ignore it with VRR if I remember right. The Remastered version is inferior because of the new lighting, replaced minigames, and it apparently looks muddier even when not at 4K. The PS4 version is superior if you can deal with 30 FPS, and if you have a hacked PS4 it's definitive because you get OG Hamura back.
You can also look at this link if you want:
https://www.thegamer.com/judgments-remaster-impressions/ >Where this remaster starts to get a little less impressive is with regards to visuals. Apart from the framerate being excellent, a lot of the visual quality is practically unchanged from the PS4 version. Hair on character models looks better, and the textures are less compressed, but that's really it. In a few instances, explosions actually look worse, and since the game doesn't run at native 4K, it appears very soft on larger TVs. It's strange that you aren't given a choice between performance or resolution, but then I wouldn't want to play the game at 30 FPS again.
Reason? Several factors that may had snowballed into the current situation.
Nagoshi oversaw RGG games and several other Sega and Atlus games either as general director, producer, or some sort of supervisor over production.
He was bought out by NetEase to create his own studio, which left Sega probably to pause production on specific series until they can restructure with his departure.
Lost Judgement and Judgement, a spin-off of Yakuza games (Judge Eyes in Japan), had serious issues regarding the licensing PC and future ports down the line.
This is a bit of an issue since the mainline series of Yakuza games was beginning to shift to a different genre direction and opted for their Judgement games to retain the familiar action games the series is known for.
RGG studio now has no directive lead, one of their top dogs is gone, they lost investment and initiative with their spin-off series, and their Yakuza games are in a limbo on how to move the series forward.
You could say they're busy on working the DLC for Lost Judgement since they had a year's worth of season pass content to hold on to but what's happening to the studio is probably not doing them any favors, especially once they finish wrapping that up.
If you've been following the games so far, you'd know that the studio loves pushing out games almost every year so they're tons busy.
The lack of new news regarding RGG Studios is concerning since this is one of the longest times there's been radio silence and after such big ambitions to reel in the western and international audience.
Personally, it's just giving more time to enjoy all these games.
I've yet to finish Judgement and FotNS: Lost Paradise, but I don't intend to buy Lost Judgement until it hits PC.
With most of the RGG games and Persona series now on PC, I'm becoming less interested in buying Sega's timed exclusives and I only hope the Judgement series follows.
Also Yakuza 0 and 3 are shit.
>The lack of new news regarding RGG Studios is concerning since this is one of the longest times there's been radio silence and after such big ambitions to reel in the western and international audience.
We just got news a couple months back that 8 is close to ending its writing and they're already recording lines.
https://www.dualshockers.com/yakuza-8-scenario-almost-finished-new-development-details-translated/ >He also added that the scenario team at Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio is nearly finished with the game’s story, and are currently writing the game’s climax. Lastly, Masayoshi Yokoyama also mentioned that several cast members of Yakuza 8 have started recording their characters’ lines.
We'll most likely see an announcement at TGS and then it comes out in November or December.
I'm not expecting them to go back to brawling and I seriously hate Ichiban and hope he gets hit by a train but more than anything I hate Yokohama and hope to god they don't reuse it in favor of something that might be more interesting like Kobe or bringing back Fukuoka or something. Maybe Matsuyama since Shikoku's the one major island they haven't done yet.
They're very clearly making Ijincho the new Kamurocho because Ichiban is based out of there now. I doubt it'll mean we don't get new maps though, in LJ's case it was the first game with brawling combat to get it and they fleshed it out quite a bit by comparison so that makes sense why they used it there. They were probably intending for Yagami to carry Kamurocho for a while while Ichiban carries Ijincho so they don't need to do the Ijincho/Kamurocho combo every single game.
Yokohama is just such a badly designed city compared to Kamurocho. It's too fricking big, far less intimate and for all that space there's not really much. It takes too long to traverse and the large streets and boulevards and samey building just make it feel like a typical open world map. Kamurocho being so dense and tightly packed with streets being thin and small alleyways everywhere really helped and it's far less of a chore if you have to run from, say, the south end of Pink Street up to the park/Kamuro Hills vs. going from the Red Light District to Hamakita Park.
That they gave you the skateboard in LJ to make traversing faster is, I think, a further indictment of just how shitty and poorly designed Yokohama is as a locale. It's a Yakuza game, you shouldn't NEED a vehicle to make traversing the city less of a pain in the ass. It's completely atithetical to what makes the locales in other games work.
The last good JRPG Capcom's ever developed was Breath of Fire V. Yeah, I fricking said it. I don't care what you think of it, I liked it. It's legit one of Capcom's Top Three JRPGs (not that this is a particularly high accomplishment since they only fricking made like ten). It's leagues better than Yakuza 7 was.
Did anyone here play the PS3 JP-exclusive 龍が如くKENZAN!、or whatever it was called? I'm just typing from memory, but it looked pretty good. Never played the other games, but I picked up a copy years back because it reminded me of Way of the Samurai. I wasn't comfortable with my language skills at the time so I barely played my copy, but it looked and felt great to play. I recall hearing rumors it might get remastered too. Don't know how I feel about that.
Daisuke Sato said something about how Kenzan was the game that would most likely get the Kiwami if they ever did another remake, but he left with Nagoshi to make their own studio, so who knows.
Yes, it's actually my favorite but most people would probably rate it roughly 3ish level or so with all the issues it has. It's got an enjoyable story and some fun substories with my favorite maps in the series. The combat is riddled with issues such as >People constantly stabbing you in the middle of combos so you slowly fall down. >They block virtually everything you throw at them worse than 3. >Two of the styles are unusable because of how awful they are. >Fat sumo wrestlers bypass your iframes or even super armor as they grab at which point they throw you to the ground and taunt you. >Bosses that can just sway and attack you mid-combo while you're still recovering.
and on and on.
Minigames are a mix of staples, some good new ones (Horse Archery, Kabuki, Fan Throwing, that knocking rock minigame, and Jiraiya training), some "okay" ones (Melon cutting and turtle racing), and some horrible ones (Iroha Karuta and Kakashi training).
It also has the most missables of the series. If you want to do anything but the story you are required to follow a guide because stuff randomly becomes impossible to do, you get locked out of Gion in the last chapter, Gyoutensai has an oversight if you finish his inventions before chapter 13 (Not really something people would normally do but it's possible), like eight Heat Actions can be missed, if you can be locked out of completing Komaki/his rival's training if you go to the final chapter, and so on. Kenzan isn't a game you can play without a guide if you want to do side content even if you're fluent in Japanese.
Thanks for the interesting notes. I think I've seen your trip before, makes me wonder if we discussed it in the past. I don't visit Ganker often. >It also has the most missables of the series.
This is the kind of thing that would bother me a bit. I don't want to use guides when I play games, unless it is a minor thing or only a few points I should pay attention to. I will still consider playing it again after I clear other JP games from my backlog, though not sure if I should look into emulating it or just playing it on my native hardware. I see your screenshot was emulated a little less than a year ago, based on the title, so I imagine it plays well enough. I just want to impale vagrants and foes' livers with my blade anon; is that so much to ask for? Maybe I should just play Zero instead.
>unless it is a minor thing or only a few points I should pay attention to
I'll break it down for you. >Heat Actions
Sliding wall stab is only possible in two chapters (Intro and like 6 I think).
Coal stomp is only possible in a single substory (Blacksmith one) and you only have five enemies to do it on if you didn't bring not-Tauriners.
Tatami flip is only possible in the same chapter the second sliding wall stab is in and you kind of have to luck into it because the samurai you fight has to be standing and attacking on a certain point of the tatami map while you're unarmed or in 1kat, I forgot which.
There's like five or six boss-specific Heat Actions that happen only when you damage them enough in a short period of time and you have to use a specific weapon for it. You can only unlock them the chapter you fight the boss in by visiting the melon cutting monk and doing a round of it. If you miss the unlock you can't get them again.
There's three boss-agnostic Heat Actions but you need to do them in a specific way because two of the bosses you can use Heat Actions on have boss-specific ones so you can't leave the agnostic one for the other boss. >Locker Keys, yuujos, gambling minigames, inventions, kakemawari missions, Komaki.
Everything I listed is permanently missable if you go to the end of the game because Gion arbitrarily gets locked in the final chapter. >Substories
There's several substories that must be done in the chapter they're unlocked or they're permanently missed. If I remember right chili girl and kanji boy are two of those. 1 had this same issue with the chapter 4 trading sequence and chapter 5 sick kid. >Bounties
Some only unlock in certain chapters and are time-locked at that so if you progress too far without doing them you would permanently lock yourself out of them, and some are in Gion if I remember right.
You should emulate the game. You'll get it to look prettier and it won't drop to high 20s sometimes.
Also would like to add that even though the game has a Premium Adventure mode (Adventures in Kyoto) it wipes all your completion list except for crafted swords and doesn't have all substories/kakemawari missions/bounties available for you to do anyway. NG+ will also do the same thing with the wiping. You only get to keep all the various items you collected, your level ups, and any completion list items you have unlocked (Since those become tied to your system save once you unlock them for future saves if I remember right).
So if you want an actual 100% complete save file you have to do everything during your story playthrough and have to make multiple saves so you don't miss anything. If you just want the secret boss you still need to care about not missing substories.
Rough stuff, especially as far as 'luck' goes for a run. Though, perhaps you could just save-state cheese within the emulator to save time anyway. I'm not preoccupied with 100%ing, but I like getting full stories, so it might be mandatory. It would be like playing NMH and not fighting the true end boss to tie off the game and character development. Thanks for the explanations; cool to hear it from a passionate and experienced fan.

>Though, perhaps you could just save-state cheese within the emulator to save time anyway.
RPCS3 can't save state. You'd have to do normal save files. > but I like getting full stories, so it might be mandatory.
You don't need to 100% for the secret boss, just do all substories, kakemawari missions, and bounties. I didn't even do a full 100% in the end because it was too much for me with the minigames. I backed off of doing minigames because I wasn't feeling turtle racing personally, the yuujo minigames make you want to blow your brains out because they constantly cheat at them and it's so slow to get another try while also having absurd requirements like in Jiraiya training's time trial, the Japanese gambling games always felt rigged, and you were forced to do mahjong when I had no idea how to do mahjong at the time.

Didn't even know this was a thing, I thought they still had trouble trying to implement it. This feels more like a sleep mode sort of deal since it forcibly closes the game out and you can (seemingly?) only have one.
K1's story was the fricking worst. Nishiki became such a comically shallow homosexual
Nishiki started comically shallow, K1 actually fleshed him out by comparison.
I always make her my top hostess in K2. Pushing 40, retired from acting hostess duty for years, can't even put on different dresses or accessories meaning her stats are all static, but still leaves the younger girls in the dust.
I gotta go with the strongest character in the game, the Obatarian
Friday Night
Gotta go with the OG, Kamurocho. After 8 games I still don't know the layout of the district and the street names.
I can't believe no one's said this, but Kiryu's taxi driving.
Not only is she the strongest character but the best hostess, the Obatarian
anyone else laugh their ass off when this intro plays? https://youtu.be/Wj5cfsRVxWE
the characters' mouths sync up so well with the music it fricking kills me
Well yeah, exactly. Kiryu isn’t a seven-game protagonist. He was fighting his way through entire families by the first game, and by 4 it’s unironically routine for him. Even his reactions to sidestories are expected and dull by that point. So the stories around him spiraled into moronic-scale quintouble-intrigue stories where every door had a tiger drop shaped lock. He should have been retired after 3 at most to give spotlight to other characters.
Maybe, but I think it's also kind of a video game thing. 'Cause these games are sort of wish fulfillment fantasy at their core. You're SUPPOSED to be this sort of invincible monster who can crush entire families on your own because that's more or less what the gameplay boils down to. The general idea with Kiryu is that there aren't more than maybe two or three other guys in all of Japan who can do what he does.
Subsequently, you might have noticed how the quality of antagonists has gone down dramatically throughout the series. No one in Y7 could even hope to take someone like Ryuji, Mine or Aikawa in a fight. By Y7, the days of one man taking down a hundred guys on his own are gone. All such monsters are either dead or retired.
You can really tell that in Yakuza 6, the average powerlevel of all the new characters is extremely low compared to past entries. And that trend seems to have continued into Y7. I don't even know if Tendo could beat Someya.
The funny part is Tendo is effectively a random guy you fight in the coliseum propped up into boss-tier. Kamiyama would most likely be an equal fight for him. Raiden would massacre him by comparison.
Is it true only women play Yakuza games in Japan and it's only in western cuckold territories where this series got even remotely popular among """men"""?
>0 is bad because it’s not up to the highest standards of literature
Alright what’s the rest of the series then, where the writing is below the lowest standards of tv series?
What are you talking about moron? No one said it was bad, you're so stupid you got defensive for no reason. I already pointed that out to you. Now try again, 0gay.
Up to Dead Souls I loved every Yakuza game but when 5 launched outside of Japan I didn't like it all, mainly because of the game's idiotic premise and ending.
When I cleared 0 the first time in 2018 I felt completely underwhelmed by the game because I expected a much, much better experience after seeing all the hype surrounding the title.
Now I'm giving another chance to 0 and I'm having a blast; side content and all that's not related to the main story is really fantastic.
I think I'll try to get into the series again with 6 and if I like that I'll also get the newer titles and spin-offs.
The problem with Someya and characters like Someya who only fight and lose to Kiryu is that Kiryu is an exceptionally poor bar to judge anything by. It is close to impossible to judge how strong Someya actually is. The only thing we can sort of almost be certain of is that he's probably weaker than Mine because Mine's one of the few guys who ever got Kiryu to sweat. However, this also relies heavily on the assumption that Kiryu has remained static since Yakuza 3 and hasn't gotten any stronger or weaker over time.
Lol are you implying Sodachi is anywhere near Kiryu's fighting level?
Just because someone hits the gym doesn't mean they'll be trained in martial arts or boxing, in fact most roidheads could probaly get beat by almost any person with surface level knoweledge on any martial art.
You said Kiryu was untrained since 3, proved he wasn't, it does mean a lot because it means he's in shape, therefore more combat capabilities. It's why he's such a beast in 6 and takes like 2 gunshots and a few lead pipe hits to the noggin and shrugs that shit off. Kiryu only got better with age.

No, what I said was that it's hard to tell if Kiryu's gotten stronger or weaker over time or if he's stayed static. For all we know, it's not that he's gotten stronger but everyone else has gotten weaker. I mean the latter is definitely true, but the former is hard to gauge. It's hard to really tell if Kiryu's gotten stronger at all because the entire cast of Y6 consists of pussyshit weaklings and an old man way past his prime. For all we know, all the Rizap training actually does is help make up for the fact that Kiryu's pushing 50. Alternatively, maybe his age genuinely doesn't matter is he's much stronger than he was in the last game. But without a worthy opponent to judge his strength against, it's impossible to say. Kiryu doesn't fight ANY former opponents in Y6, not even Majima.

You can make the argument that Mine and Iwata's power level might be the same because Iwata seemed to do the same working out and training Mine seemed to do. We're not really shown anything further than that for how Mine is so strong and Iwata outright tells us he was training his body if I remember right. But you can easily counter that by saying the finish cutscenes have completely different outcomes in terms of actual fight results.
Confession: I met Sodachi in the streets and he challenged me and I opted to fight him without using items and somehow the fight came down to both of us having slivers of health left and he somehow ended up off camera then he kicked me and knocked me out. I'm sorry.
There is no reason for Kiryu to get stronger over time when nobody is able to challenge him after 3. It is a narrative point that Y1 was the end of the golden age of the yakuza. Then entered into a decline with Y2 (for both Omi and Tojo as Ryuji was top dog). Y3 could have saved the Tojo, but after Mine's death, the entire legacy began to collapse. By Y4, and Y5, big villains are guys like Daigo, Police chiefs, rookies, Aizawa who admittedly had no idea what he was doing there. In Y6, the last boss may be the weakest boss of all due to being nothing more than a coddled rich boy.
I know. I'm saying Aizawa's presence as the final boss is lacking because it's arguably not due to his own machinations and aspiration at all. Plus he was already defeated prior to this. He's not built up to be something special like the first 3.
>Plus he was already defeated prior to this
To be fair people love ryuji yet he jobs like a b***h to kiryu twice. I can't reasonably ever perceive him as a threat. Not saying aizawa is good though.
No, you're right. I feel the same way about Ryuji. He's a jobber, but people overlook because his strength is man made, and that gave him presence. He also at least made a fool out of Daigo. Aizawa did nothing but loose and show up out of nowhere.

Kiryu says as much that he gets stronger over time in 6. He doesn't just stop working out aside from being in prison in Kiwami even though in 1 he said he kept in shape.
Sure, but so does Sodachi and he's not exactly a tough fight.
Sodachi is very much a tough fight in 6. He started scrawny but he clearly made enormous gains.
On one hand, I don't know if Y8 should star Kiryu again. On the other, whether he retires or dies, I do kinda wish he could go out with a real bang. The most disappointing thing about Y6 to me was the final boss. Kiryu doesn't deserve to have his last opponent as protagonist be that loser.
why? Yakuza 7 was made for Ichi and it's clear that it's a game about passing the torch to the next generation. You also wouldn't get his cool boss fight in 7.
>passing the torch to the next generation
Kasuga's 42 years old and only eight years younger than Kiryu. If 50's too old to keep this shit up then Kasuga himself is going to retire in less than a decade. If you're thinking of "passing the torch to the next generation", it's usually better to find someone younger.
well one of the other points of Y7 is being an older person staring in a JRPG and trying to find work at such an old age and in general trying to start your life again from rock bottom. I doubt Ichi will be the MC for 6 games like Kiriyu so I don't see that as an issue.
That boss fight sucked wiener like every boss in 7
Shitty damage sponges with nothing interesting
Kiryu’s appearance in 7 was forced as frick, and awful
to add to this, half of 7 was genuine soul, but the other have was some of the most soulless shit, and shows how shit of the impact 0's had on the series.
rehashed humour and bullshit ike >dude remember be my baby? >dude remember nugget, well here's omelette! >here's PCR again! >here's the ono michio substory again >actually we get to retcon kashiwagi's death >here's han joon gi but it's a different guy, and this one is a totally boring c**t >kiryu coming back because the devs can't let him go, so he can just say "ichiban you'll be super duper like me" and other cringe bullshit
fricking awful
they couldn't even be bothered to make the combat any good, and try to rely on the silly shit to carry it (which it doesn't, since the novelty wears off after an hour of seeing it, on top of many problems being hard to ignore)
>>dude remember be my baby? >>here's the ono michio substory again
we get to retcon kashiwagi's death
None of these have anything to do with 0 and they were all good substories. Also Kashiwagi's retcon is good because his death in 3 was shit anyway.
my point was that they rehashed them because they were popular. they've even said they look to nugget's popularity in 0 for humour in substories, and i guess by extension, any other substories that could've been popular.
they're funny once, but reusing this exact joke again isn't, and it's just lazy as frick. >also retconning is good
no
they shouldn't just retcon shit for mindless fan wank. and if they keep doing it, it'll get harder to take certain shit seriously.

going to add that the only times i can remember them reusing a joke very blatantly was with kiryu bumping into a guy and "breaking" his shoulder in 1 and 3.
i'm not counting shit like a recurring character like komaki, or GBH since they're not really jokes.

>Fake Kiryu returning in 4 >The bump and scam guy returning in 3 >The entire Akimoto and Mizuki saga
Also the bump and scam ones were definitely jokes because they repeatedly don't learn their lesson to the point it is comical. Even with 7 and the diaper dudes and Ono Michio it's not done in the exact same way as it was originally and they're overall fun call backs.
A really shitty cheap callback would be Saori's hostess nonsense in Lost Judgment which turned out to be completely pointless in the end.

Ishin also reused Kenzan's prostitute substory verbatim as a callback to Kenzan but they still did it. 0 or K2 also reused Kenzan's "Lie to a guy's wife at dinner in a comedic way to protect his cover" substory when Majima had to lie about where I think Yuki was to her dad?

nah the diaper dumpers was the same punchline of the outlandishness of their fetish. the only real difference was the buildup since you're under the impression that there's actual babies in trouble or whatever.
you can tell it's there just because they had the assets in K2, and it was always one of the more popular ones. it's substantial enough to be done once, but doesn't need to be done multiple times, since it's not like the bump and scam ones.
at least with akimoto and mizuki there's a progression with their relationship too, but here it's just the same shit really.
omelette being here is probably the worst offender, since it's only here because nugget was absurdly popular. (they didn't even have buildup to it last time, they just took the "haha funny chicken/rooster/turkey" and slapped him into a special move which also ended up being one of the most popular summons people saw)
there's genuinely good ones in the game, like ichiban trying to stop a fruit falling from a tree, or even that one when you're sitting by the road with a traffic clicker, and it's all nice fun.
i'll give you fake kiryu, since i somehow erased the fact that he was in 4, and it did bother me when i saw them pull a fake yagami in LJ.

Nugget only showed up once and then was recruited, Omelette is doing a little more with it. It's not like it harms anything. But with Susumu the diaper guy he doesn't seem to be forcing the others to do his fetish shit and seems to have overall changed as a guy since 2.

I didn't know this, thanks. Is BP1 fully translated with all the side content yet? Don't want to touch it until then because I like to take things slow and do everything.

BP1 is not. The main story is translated but only just what is necessary as some secondary discussions (Like after a cutscene where you can optionally speak to the person) even with story NPCs will be filled with ******. Everything that's not translated is just ******. It also crashes a hell of a lot and you need the Japanese version on hand to bypass some crashes or even upgrade Tatsuya. It's only playable if you want to do the main story.
The BP2 team was going to use the basis of what the BP1 team did because it's just KHHSubs' translation which is fine as it is it just didn't have a QA pass so there's misspelling everywhere and a lot of text going off screen a bit. But they said they're not going back to finish up what BP1 didn't finish until after they finish BP2's missing content.

I wouldn't have minded them coming back in Y6. That was Kiryu's send off game after all so seeing them once more would've been nice. Honestly, Y6 would've been better if they just stuck to Kamurocho and made the game based more around being a farewell to the Kiryu era with more old characters popping up in substories, plot resolution for the Morning Glory kids, Haruka not getting knocked up by a chink thug, etc. Y6 really doesn't feel like The Last Kiryu Game at all.

That's pretty obvious considering Seong Hui specifically talked about "The Fixer" aka Daidoji and his men still pulling the strings in Japanese politics. Not to mention 7 happened because they got butthurt Ryo Aoki wasn't towing the party line and actively going against their plan for Japan which is why Kiryu was allowed to help out Daigo as long as he took down Ryo Aoki. You can already see a future game where Ichiban and Kiryu team up to take down the corrupt politicians of Japan that followed Daidoji while letting Kiryu go back to the kids as the reward without Kiryu dropping the Yamato bomb to take down all the government.
honestly I still have no clue why Kiryu and Daigo fought in 4
Daigo sold out Majima so that the Tojo Clan could get funds from Katsuragi and the Ueno Seiwa Clan to stay afloat. They were hemorrhaging money and he literally had no other option but Majima refused to sell Kamuro Hills to Katsuragi because if I remember right Majima didn't trust the Ueno Seiwa after he was sent to go kill them with Saejima. Kiryu didn't like that Daigo sold Majima down the river but didn't offer any other options either. It's why he showed up to the "let's put our money on the roof and see who shows up" plan. Dude's entire operation was solely hinging on Mine managing the finances and we saw what happened there. They were dirt poor ever since Y1 because of Nishiki being a moron. Ryuji even gloats about that in 2.

Pretty much, yeah. It's why he ends 4 going back to the Tojo Clan to help Daigo get things back together. But we know how 5 started with that never happening.

In all fairness Daigo was between a rock and a hard place, either way it was not going to be good but some of it is also Kiryu's fault considering he made Daigo take up the chairman's mantle then peaced out without helping him or anything.
I feel like they started by writing the beginning and the last 1/3rd of the game, and then filled in the gaps for the main story. Then they had a whole different team handle the substories, even in the localization.
>kiryu coming back because the devs can't let him go, so he can just say "ichiban you'll be super duper like me" and other cringe bullshit
I let this one pass though. I really liked Kiryu as a boss in Y4, and I liked it again in 7. He was present just long enough.
The only Yakuza games I have played are 0 and 7.
I will NEVER play the PS2 games.
I will NEVER play 3, 4, 5, or 6.
I will NEVER play Judgement.
I will NEVER play the PSP games.
I will NEVER play any other spin-off.
And I REFUSE to buy Yakuza 8 if it is not an RPG.
i was gonna buy it but then i saw the gdq speedrun and im 100% not touching it fricking ver.
DQ11 was *the* last 4 homies in a row turnbased shitter im ever touching. just like metroidvanias, ive played every goddamned interpretation and iteration of said genres.
Since Judgment is dead, give me an adventure game starring Amasawa and Itokura opening their own detective agency. Game focused more on investigation, infiltration, information gathering, logic puzzles, etc. with any combat being used sparingly to punctuate things.
I just don't want either of them to be one-off characters or if, by some miracle, there's a J3 they only get a cameo via a substory.
I feel like Yakuza 7 or 8 should have been the okinawa kids growing up into the yakuza (specifically taichi, mitsuo and koji) where their dreams failed and they fell into that direction as a quicker way to make money for the orphanage
please fricking god let us use the actual character "jobs" as a way to earn money instead of spamming the brainless business sim thing for hours as the only decent way of getting dosh holy frick
that and get some actual jrpg people to design the combat and classes because most abilities are worthless and you have zero control over positioning so AoE is mostly a wash
They didn't bother to make the maps so full of life like the original did with the friend system for Kamurocho and it's extremely lacking when it comes to the substories by comparison with only about 40ish in the base game not counting DLC (and the DLC ones are just dating anyway). There are about 10 all dedicated to the Illegal Detective Agency and all related to each other and aren't that interesting on their own.
The story is no where near as fun or interesting as Judgment which utilized its cast much better. The amount of times I heard "Sawa-sensei" had it feeling like a broken record.
The school stories are only fun here and there, it just reminds me of how under utilized the school was in the actual story.
Also I wanted more tailing missions and genuinely missed them and their incredible atmosphere.
I liked the Kaito Files more than the base game.
>and the DLC ones are just dating anyway
Don't forget that the dating substories were worse than every single one in Judgment and they even imply Yagami was cheating on Tsukino without him telling her. Not to mention Emily (The one you don't pay money for) was absolutely unbearable as a character and as a substory. >There are about 10 all dedicated to the Illegal Detective Agency and all related to each other and aren't that interesting on their own.
The IDA substories were also so barebones, most of them started the same exact way, and they were extremely boring. They were the equivalent of the majority of Dead Souls substories where it's one substory they cut into multiple pieces and I can't believe they did that again. They felt like four substories stretched to 10.
>Not to mention Emily (The one you don't pay money for) was absolutely unbearable as a character and as a substory.
Yeah that's the thing. If they wanted to use one of the girls from Bite as a girlfriend, there was a way better choice there since she had probably the best personality and substory chain of any of them. But all the girlfriends in LJ are shit and they brought back the worst one from J1 as well.
Not him but Lost Judgment's main story is worse and kind of nonsense. I think getting rid of the larger plot involving Soma and thow whole conspiracy and keeping it just related to Kuwana, Yagami and Seiryo, the effects of bullying, Kuwana's guilt and their different approaches improves the plot significantly. Make the bullies and Koda more prominent characters, don't have MUH SAWA-SENSEI get murdered and make the bullies more fleshed out and rounded characters with actual arcs. Having Kuwana, essentially, be an unrepentant serial killer destroys the moral ambiguity they were going for no matter how cartoonishly evil they make his victims and then tying it into a larger conspiracy involving the Ministry of Health (again), Bando and Soma just feels like nonsense tacked onto story at the last minute because it wouldn't be an RGG game without a high level bureaucratic conspiracy.
The start of Yakuza Kiwami was extremely boring but it seems to be kind of picking up now that some guys just tried to kidnap Haruka from Kiryu. I understand the intro was trying to set things up but I was wondering why I should care that Reika (or whatever her name was) wanted gifts too on someone else's birthday. It felt like some weirdo jealous b***h shit.
Knowing this series, it's probably gonna have some plot relevance later on.
Because it brought in a lot of newbies, especially once it came to the PC, and the newbies tend to prefer the goofy humor over the serious stuff. In effect, RGG Studio is kind of listening to them too because Y7 is way wackier than any of the games and unlike the other games the wackiness wound up seeping into the main story both with Ichiban's goofiness and the fact that the RPG battles are just his schizo imagination and it's acknowledged in story that he's just a lovable lil' schizo and everyone just kind of feeds his delusions.
Although a lot of the people complaining about Y0 are themselves newbies LARPing as oldgays and being contrarian. I've been playing the series since Y1 was a new game and I'd still rank Y0 as the best overall game.
>THERE'S A TRAITOR IN THE TOJO CLAN! >THERE'S A TRAITOR IN THE TOJO CLAN! >THERE'S A TRAITOR IN THE TOJO CLAN!
What game doesn't have a traitor in the Tojo Clan??
You could argue that Daigo betrayed the Tojo Clan by allowing Arakawa to sell out to the Omi. Truthfully Daigo could've started his whatever company he founded at the end of Y7 without dissolving the Tojo.
Kiryu should have been a postgame party member in LAD. Just for the fun of it. I mean every other returning big name ended up being a summon call except him, and Eri didn't exist at all in the story but was still a party member.
I love picking up furniture and wrecking peoples shit in these games so last week I squatted down to pick up a big ass sofa chair in the college student center and me pants ripped in front of everyone and had to take my Kiryu shirt off and tie it around my waist to escape
not if they advertise it as another entry point, which is what they may end up doing.
it's obvious that most people don't stick around for a lot of the sequels, since they more of the same.
if 8 is basically the same shit, there will be a chunk of people dropping off out of disinterest, which is a reason trying to make multiple JRPG in a setting as restrictive as this, on top of how much the series typically rehashes in terms of assets and shit, which can kill interest in more turn-based games faster.
I enjoyed Ichiban although it does feel weird that he's really not Yakuza the entire game and it's clear going forward that they won't """""glorify""""" Yakuza culture.
Next game should touch on Taiwanese triads or even a broader Sam Gor/The Company but maybe China might try to kill the game if they expose the government-backed world-wide fentanyl trade
pic related was funeral for the recently deceased Bamboo Union boss. It's almost like Taiwan is now where Japan was in the 90s/00s
i regret not starting at Y1. it still holds up really well, even if the combat is a bit clunkier compared to later entries. lots of cool little details. i saw a couple of santas with a crowd around them. in the later games it'd be a substory but here it's just a decoration that adds to the atmosphere
>I knew Makoto was a girl from the very beginning, so my plan was that Majima would fall in love and frick her at some point, Majima is charming enough to attract whatever girl he wants, my plan is flawless!!! >No, I will not tell my brother Sagawa about the plan even if that sabotages the whole thing and he could actually benefit from it. >WHAT? My plan failed?! Better kill the OMI patriarch and let Sagawa get killed in my place >Yeah, I'm going to brainwash Nishikiyama so he will become Jingu's lapdog, providing me 0 benefits whatsoever >Yeah, I'm going to fight 1vs1 with the guy that survived Lao Gui's direct attack and was able to defeat the entire Dojima's family + Shibusawa all by himself against all the odds when he was younger and had 0 prison experience >I hate fricking Kazama but in the korean operation I will follow his orders no matter what
What the actual frick was wrong with him?
No
No
Maybe?
Anyway, what’s everyone’s favorite mini game? From any Yakuza game.
I got completely absorbed in 0 hostess club management for hours.
Hostess club and the toy car game
Hostess club. Got at least 20 hours in that alone.
hostess. i developed love for yuki...
lmfao me too (~_~)
Bowling is comfy
hunting or pocket circuit can't decide
Hunting was amazing to be sure. I got some sick satisfaction in that. Spent ages in that village fishing, training, and hunting. Forgot the main story, many such cases.
hunting is so underrated. i think i spent like 10 hours hunting before leaving the village
Everything about the hostess club in 0 was so comfy, taking to the girls, managing your lineup, listening to the club's music. It was really addicting.
I really wish this song had an official release. Loved listening to the hostesses talk about their lives and shit with this on.
My fricking homie, I remember years ago looking everywhere for this because it didn't have a name. This shit is so good.
Yeah same. 7's business management minigame was so fricking shit in comparison, i hope they make 8's better because that shit was the weakest business management in any of their games and i hated how you didn't actually amass all the wealth but only got shitty paychecks after slapping the investors mindlessly by button mashing. So fricking bad.
Real Estate, Cabaret Club (0), Taxi Driving, and Hunting.
I'm surprised I'm the first to say karaoke.
1st: Karaoke, no contest.
2nd: tie between Hostess Club, Pocket Circuit, Clan Creator, baseball and dices. Yes, I'm indecisive frick who can't pick one.
I liked the golf and baseball. Though the golf could use some more work.
yakuza minigames never clicked with me, i suppose real estate was fun because lots of money and karaoke is fun enough even for just the songs.
today is a diamond will always be #1
Cabaret club in 0 because I could play with Chika, Ai and Hibiki
Chika is MY waifu. Hands off
We can share, wouldn't be her first time.
Your wife has fricked thousands of men, anon.
Quintuplets?
How is Hibiki with jav? I always kinda interested with her but have never actually watch her videos from start to finish yet. How is she compared to Ai etc.
shogi
Too many beef bowls
i wish they would remove mahjong, because now that i've learned it i keep catching myself playing it for hours instead of the rest of the game. it's addictive, man.
favorite minigame is hostess club, i guess. honorable mention to the turtle races in kenzan, i love the concept but it's not that fun in the end.
Yakuza 5
Haruka dance battles
I wish the Haruka rhythm game shit was harder.
I wish the Haruka rhythm game shit was complete garbage. I wish the button presses and music would actually sync and I wish there were more than 5 songs and dances. God I fricking hate that mini game what the frick were RGG thinking? Couldn't they get some help from the Project Diva guys?
>I wish the Haruka rhythm game shit was complete garbage
Strange to want that but sure, you do you king.
yeah, but it was the best part of y5 by far
Mahjong
>Yakuza 0
shit sux
had a strange compulsion to finish the boxing club minigame in 4. Also the racing one in 5, wish it wasn't that repetitive and easy.
it's a 3 way tie between taxi racing, hunting, and drone racing
Ichiban Holdings in LAD, pretty fun. Also the cutscenes are funny.
The bug battles. It wasn't even about the tiddies, that was just a nice bonus. The real enjoyment was crushing kids and taking their cards.
This, same with pocket circuit, being a grown ass man dumping millions of yen just to beat schoolchildren with toy cars was the best shit ever.
Pocket Circuit, 6's baseball and fishing and Mahjong
Pocket circuit, hostess cabaret, real estate, ichiban holdings, taxi races, and the boxing in lost judgement
my favourite game was the toy catcher and mahjong fun
>Zero hostess club
I spent so many hours there, it was strangely addicting and i dont even know why
You know why.
Havent played it in 2 years but that put a smile on my face, thanks anon.
This was one of the reasons ofc, also fever time and hanging out with the girls and experience majimas non psycho moments.
Also the top tier girls are all jav actressess (afaik except yuki)
bump
hostess club and the racing car mini game, the one where you get a 10 year old as a girlfriend because she only dates the best racers, and that turns out to be you. That was comedy gold.
The business gane in LAD was great
shogi
this is the game that introduced me to shogi and im thankful for it
Shinada's version of baseball
Bring back the Catfights/Bug-Battles for 9.
*8
>bug battles
Explain pls, im majorly interested in the jap mushi hobby thing
Cat fight but the girls are dressed up like bugs
Yeah
Jrpgs were a mistake
Is it dead because the producer left or is it dead because op's is implying yakuza like a dragon was a bad game?
Not if they bring back Kiryu or make Kaito the main character
Yakuza 7 sucks wiener and if Kaito Files is an example of what we get without Nagoshi then we are going to be just fine
Why is doc from back to the future there?
He's a character in Yakuza 3, 4 and 5.
Shit taste, kyodai.
>bring back the sixty year old homie
No
He can still fight.
I need to see 25+ year old Haruka at least once.
For... reasons.
Yakuza 7 is almost as good as 0.
Anyways you are a Black person
*Yakuza 7 is almost as boring as 0.
How does Lost Judgement hold up on base PS4? I'm really itching to play it but I'm not dropping the money on a new console just for it alone.
It's the same performance as 7 so mostly 30 with some drops into the high 20s every once in a while.
Neither. If there's no Kazama Kiryu then it's not a Yakuza game, it's another series.
Let him rest for Christ’s sake. 6 already wrapped up his story.
It doesn't have to be more Kiryu, but they don't have to call the games "Yakuza n+1".
that's moronic
It's like having a Christian church without Christ it doesn't really work. Just call it something else.
Should have ended at 6. 7 shouldn't have been a yakuza game and should have been like judgement aka a spinoff
Agreed. With any luck they'll drop "Yakuza" from the title in the West and Yakuza 8 will simply be called "Like A Dragon 2".
No.
why
Haven't the English translations been on life support for like a decade now?
Your info is about a decade old. Ever since Sega bought Atlus and had some Atlus USA staff helping with localization for the Yakuza series, the output exponentially increased. They even used the PS4 re-releases of 3, 4, and 5 as an excuse to completely re-do those games and give them a better translation. There's one or two things lost along the way like 3's troony chase or Akiyama laughing at the idea of someone wanting to rape Hana (though he still clearly says REIPU in the spoken dialogue), but overall you're getting a better experience, especially with 3, which got hacked to pieces in the original western PS3 release.
>but overall you're getting a better experience, especially with 3, which got hacked to pieces in the original western PS3 release.
You don't say?
RUBBER
BULLETS
What does Abe getting capped have to do with anything?
WHAT HAPPENED YOU DUMB moronS, did some yakuza or whoever killed someone irl or something
Former prime minister of japan got shot and morons keep thinking that the series is getting axed because it has guns
Killed with a "'homemade"' shotgun.
Well clearly somebody wasn't too keen on having kids
it is crazy that yakuza 7 came after judgement. 7 killed the series, what a piece of fricking shit.
>one of the most successful and well loved entries in franchise
>it's hecking hecking killed the series, me and my Ganker frens said so!
>one of the most successful and well loved entries in franchise
People that started with 7 everyone.
It's litetally the best selling Yakuza game in the West you moron. It fricking ressurected the series.
that's 0, you dumb frick.
Those carry the requirement of a certain amount of sales before they get branded as such.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greatest_Hits_(PlayStation)
>On July 28, 2008, the program was introduced on the PlayStation 3.
>It fricking ressurected the series.
then where is Yakuza 8?
Being worked on.
You are forgetting that covid delayed the dev of games
Damn Chinese
Are you fricking stupid? It flopped hard in Japan, and no one liked the new crybaby b***h protag. Sold less than Yakuza 6, 0, even 5 and 4 and 3
>Yakuza 7 achieved the highest digital sales of the series, even BEFORE it came out in english
>flopped
It still sold less in Asian regions despite that though, which puts into perspective how much less digital games sell over there
The older titles were reported to have broken 500k copies over there outside of spinoffs, while 7 didn’t.
yakuza ended at 6 it has been dead for awhile now
Is it the only case where series went from action to turn-based? Opposite always happens.
Command mission. It would actually be decent if the rng wasnt so cancerous
>Party member betrays you
>Actually leaves permanently
Is there any other JRPG that does this, and does not give you a replacement party member?
You do get Zero to finally join the party for good after that point do arguably you do still get a replacement.
Axl is the one with Spider's invincible hypermode but no one has a direct equivalent to anything else in Spider's kit.
Final Fantasy 4 had immense party churn.
>Redips is the bbeg
>Some card guy named Spider joins you
>Turns out he was Redips all along
>Spider backwards
Fricking blew my mind when I was a kid.
TECHNICALLY that KINDA happens but he only gets two armors and one of them is a hidden broken super-armor that eliminates any need to use the other one.
>getting new skills as you defeat bosses
You can kinda handwave that as getting the new subweapon drops but that's really reaching.
If there was one thing that stuck with me was the laughing boss
>haHaHA
>Changes color
>HYA-HAHAHA!
The Bleach DS games when from Fighting to turn-based.
Not a fan of the Dragon Engine era OST, but I will admit these songs are fricking god tier
I fricking hate 0gays so goddamn much it's unreal
Bruh wtf happened to the dame da ne guy???
he truly is like Don Quixote. It even gives you his armor at the end of the game.
Bless Ichiban and his video game induced psychosis
Kashiwagi and Long surviving is fricking bullshit.
Prove me wrong.
I'm still waiting for my Akiyama game.
in all honesty, judgement should have been his spinoff. Would have loved to see him and Date busting cases
i've only played yakuza 0 and the PS2 versions of 1 and 2, can i play like a dragon or do i need to get through the rest of the series first (im kind of dreading having to play yakuza 3 because people say its the worst one)
>Yakuza 3
>worst
>listening to Ganker's opinion
fricking idiot
assuming i get all my opinions from Ganker is a really weird posit but okay
>im kind of dreading having to play yakuza 3
Don't, even if it is the worst one it's not a bad game by any means. Play it.
I hope you like blocks.
It's a complete improvement from Yakuza 1 and 2 on PS2
If you enjoyed those you'll like 3
Yakuza 3 has better combat than the snore fests that are Kiwami 2 and 6 and the story is moronic but at least entertaining unlike 4
Y3's gameplay is shit but it's still Yakuza, so you should give it a go.
3 is the second best yakuza below 0, after playing 3 you can drop the franchise
sure, but I guarantee you won't pass the underworld knowledge exam
*unzips phone*
pssh, nothin personnel cool leg, i just wanted some gamer point's
ill stop you right here right now
3 is the comfiest game ever made
I didn't think I was capable of getting hooked on non-/egg/ games anymore, but it got me
although that was more than a year ago and I've only gotten more jaded since
I fricking hate the cars
Honestly I had a genuine laugh at getting hit by my first car. In all the other Yakuza games that had traffic, none of them hurt you they just kinda stopped in time or bumped into you with no collision so imagine my surprise when I just ran into the street then got ragdolled by a car. There was a time in early game when I was running around the big park in the north east, got hit by a car and some thugs caught up to me and dropped Ichi. That was some real 'the game fricked me!' moment.
also give me all your dank yakuza memes, my folder is light
Do all of these games have so much random encounter bloat?
Yes but 7's a bit more than usual because it's a JRPG. You can see them on your minimap long before you actually encounter them and in the vast majority of cases you can just take an alternate route.
7 is so much worse
Most of the time in 7 you can juke and avoid encounters unless you get unlucky and you're stuck in a corridor. However once you get to dungeons encounters are almost impossible o avoid because you don't have enough time to evade their sight.
yes, but the difference is in 7, every fight is a pseudo-loading screen, then shitty menus that take forever. the rest of the games are beat em ups, so random fights are fun because you just obliterate everyone to amazing music.
To me they get old fast in either format.
>t.adhd moron
It's a beat em up game. The fun in the game is beating people up, so they put people you can beat up on the way to go beat more people up.
you can completely turn off random encounters by having one of your followers equip a certain item
forget what it's called though
The assassin was ex-JSDF, not yakuza
Reminder that Kenshiro killed Jo Amon.
Which do you prefer Sub or Dub for the final scene in Yakuze 7?
>Yakuze
This may not be what you want to hear... but I consider you my brother, man. That means something to me. Don't make me watch my brother die. Please? I can't do it. Masato? I’m begging you.
God that line and that whole ending scene is so good. I think the English Dub works more for me for Ichi. He sounds so natural doing it and it's the ideal voice in my head for his character.
Nakaya is great, but I also loved Tang's performance, too. Both scenes are fantastic, honestly.
I think recall Kazuhiro Nakaya putting out a tweet saying he was going to play the game in English, which is pretty neat.
I almost forgot about the International rerelease.
Both are fantastic. Both are tear jerkers.
Both are amazing.
sub >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> dub
I don't get why a game like Yakuza even has a dub.
Why not? They even got Kiryu’s original dub voice actor back.
Because it's moronic and doesn't fit the series at all. Might as well watch dubbed Kabuki Theatre.
0gays are moronic
Because America can't read subs
Dirty dubgay dollars
I honestly think the dub is fantastic, the voices fit the characters so well. My only issue with the dub is the karaoke.
Oh no, it's "dead" after like 15 fricking games.
Do you still want to be playing the same game until you're in your sixties?
Yes. They need to bring it back and start really jumping the shark hard too like Kiryu is attacked while exploring the moon by Majima hiding in a crater.
Yakuza 0 is the only good Yakuza game.
Nobody says this if they actually play the other games.
Turns out they do.
Nope.
Yup.
You do care. You did ask by stating your stupid opinion. You're also a troony, etc.
I wonder why the yakuza is forcing SEGA to keep Sonic alive.
I'm so glad they made him the main character VA, he absolutely steals the fricking show
He’s good at crying
The way he spoke when Nishiki and Ichiban were choked up with tears made me realize that whoever the voice actor was behind them was something special.
Considering the success of the Shenmue anime adaptation, Shenmue has more chances to get a new game than Yakuza.
DEAD SOULS REMAKE WHEN
No
I have begun playing several Yakuza games. I guess I'm a bit of a weeb; so much so that I actually watch videos of some guy simply walking through Japan on youtube. I have never actually completed any of these games.
>remaster translation of that samurai Yakuza with guns never ever
Well yeah, they said they're going to remake it (I.e. Kiwami it) which would be the worst thing you could ask for.
https://jpgames.de/2021/02/interview-daisuke-sato-on-the-past-and-future-of-the-yakuza-series/
Translation patch is still in the works for both Kenzan and Ishin so there's hope for that at least. The PS4 version of Ishin is already technically what you'd see in a "Remaster" even if it's a port since it's 1080p and 60 FPS without issues.
Let's just hope he actually made a mistake and actually meant Kenzan. Ishin getting remade makes no sense. It came out on the PS4 for god's sake.
frick Diago he sucks.
Still better than Haruka.
just because she sucks doesn't mean he sucks less. They both suck and should go suck a lemon. Suck.
This is the best opening in the series.
NO
I just started playing kiwami 1.
I did the same in 2021
0=5>7>K2=4>6>K1>3
In between all those games I played other games for a day or two and that wasn't enough to stave off a burnout.
>and barely had threads by comparison
And yeah, I never bother going completionist either, FRICK Mahjong.
should i go back and finish 7?
i lost interest after my immersion was shattered by the double locker baby incident. is there any point?
yes i know yakuza story writing is contrived, le rubber bullets, but that shit was just too absurd.
if anything I think that particular revelation comes near the end of the game and you could probably finish it up in a day.
it was kino actually, reminded me or Greek plays like Oedipus
Those kinds of incidents were surprisingly common.
it's fricking insane that so many delusional morons on this website genuinely think 7 isn't the second most liked Yakuza game after 0. it even ended up 3rd on the Ganker poll for best game of 2020 while lost judgment, a game with great action combat and fun mini games, didn't even finish in the top ten and barely had threads by comparison. the game is by far the most popular Yakuza on steam after 0, player numbers spike massively with every sale, it has 93-94% positive reviews on steam. yeah, 0 saved the series and probably is still above it but it's the best dragon engine game and the most loved dragon engine game. everywhere you go you can see that even on Ganker
you know why
the consumers can affect the quality of a product though.
walmart and carnival cruises themselves are great. but because theyre affordable it brings in a lot of human trash. same is true for major AAA normalgay core games. breath of the wild is a pretty alright game, like 7.5/10, but the swathes of people sucking its dick just makes you feel gross playing it
>but the swathes of people sucking its dick just makes you feel gross playing it
Maybe take your meds next time before you start playing video games
What is this fricking cope post lol
Do you people need to repeat this tripe to yourselves the moment you see people with an opinion that isn’t something that matches your own
Delusional and sad
>I-it’s the most well liked after 0, l-look at steam.
Any anons willing to recommend some Chika kinos?
i personally like her femdom pegging videos. god i want her to ram me
Genre(s): pantyhose
Is 3 generally considered the weakest of the series?
Kenzan, Ishin, 0, 6, and K2.
Among moronic normalgays, yeah. It's actually secret kino requiring an incredibly high IQ and the best game in the series.
which games have the most coombait with panty side quests, dominatrices, hostesses, upskirts, etc
maybe 7
I know, I just wanted to post that screenshot
That's okay, I get it.
>sexually assaults Ichi in his sleep without his knowledge
>physically assaults him after other women throw themselves at him
How does she get away with it?
Not that anon but thanks for the breakdown, Shenmue fan here who only ever played the demo for Y1 back when it was on PS2 iirc, been wanting to slowly ease into this franchise when the mood strikes
You forgot to mention 4 and 5 that have after bath housesauna (no idea what to call it) minigame in form of table tennisair hockey where you get heat bar by starring at your opponent's bouncing breasts. Haruka including.
Whoops, yeah, you're right. 1 to 3 or 4 also have Love in Heart to watch a girl dance in her bikini as you get a "massage".
The Judgment remaster's only on Series X. Xbox One only gets Lost Judgment.
Oh, my mistake. I thought I saw it was also on the Xbone but I just checked its page and you're right.
>Shindo betrays the Tojo clan so he can tap this
Not bad
He still failed, and got shot by Daigo.
I enjoyed it despite not liking the combat change to turn based shit. Feels like they should just concentrate on improving a real time action combat, because when they did it right, it was way more interesting and unique compared to hey let's just slap a subpar turn based combat like all those other JRPGs that do it
Give it to me straight lads, will we ever see Judgment on PC or is that a no go
No-go for the foreseeable future. You can stream the two of them via Stadia and Amazon Luna but that's as close as you're getting right now. They'd probably sooner continue the games on console to be perfectly honest.
at the rate things are going, you're gonna see yagami flawlessly modded in yakuza 0 with his entire moveset long before judgment ever makes it to PC
speaking of judgment not being on pc, are the judgment games available on PS5 or xbox series x?
The latter for sure
Yeah, there's a Remastered version of the 1st for PS5 and XsX, and LJ is on 4,5 Xbone and X/S.
yakuza 7 really isn't very fun
>he is a bad guy
>omg he is actually a good guy
>he is a good guy
>omg he is actually a bad guy
>he killed me
>omg he actually saved me
>they are in our trap
>omg they are doing it on purpose, we are actually in the trap
The story is so fricking stupid
Mental capacity of a child.
Personally think the game wouldve been better without the MC going to prison and there being a time skip.
And all the reveals were dumb + too much crying from MC.
Just finished 0, fun ride. Gonna start Kiwami now. I heard Nishikiyama becomes Eren in that one is that true?
At the end of the series Kiryu is a bigger cuck than Eren ever was.
leave while you ahead
0 is really the best one and everything else is a downgrade
judgment is much better
By the end of 0, Majima is a bigger cuck than Cuckren
>At least 10 years
Yeah, nah
Would you prefer Makoto get killed for being involved with Majima
I PUT MY BABY IN A LOCKER MORTY, SO ORIGINAL
is Yakuza 7's ending going to be censored in future releases now?
it did bad in japan, and they hated the new protag.
Just started with yakuza 0 and finished chapter 1, never played the series before. What am I in for?
If you didn't have a dad, Kazama Kiryu is going to teach you how to be a man.
Sounds kinda gay
Kuze everywhere system.
The best of the series when it comes to the story and characters. No villain in the series comes close to being as good as Kuze and Sagawa.
>0gays really believe this
Name one good villain after 0, moron.
After 0?
>Someya
>Sawashiro
>Kuwana
Honestly Someya died too soon. I would have liked to see him as a semi-good guy in future entries.
At least Kuwana's still around. I hope they bring him back and challenge his mindset about how nothing panned out like he thought it would.
I would like that a lot.
>o villain in the series comes close to being as good as Kuze and Sagawa.
okay but for me? it's the fat lunatic in 3 that pulls a giant stone decoration out of the wall.
>here's this fat ugly bastard
>he's evil because he likes to rape women
>actually he only wants to massage them
3's writing was all over the place.
That's called a joke anon
Yakuza 8 getting delayed and heavily re-written I can see it now. 7 was heavily into the politics and angle and left loads of room for follow up with the ending. Its fricked.
I think they were trying to make Kume into the next game antagonist but I just don't see it happening, especially when we already btfo Bleach Japan.
>I think they were trying to make Kume into the next game antagonist
I viewed it more as them giving Ichiban a moral dilemma to think about and try to get past once 8 happens in full. LJ seems to imply they already get past the whole fiasco since no one mentions it, they only talk about the underworld.
>LJ
Judgment games are in an alternate universe and have no bearing on mainline Yakuza.
>are in an alternate universe
LJ is literally a direct sequel to 7 and they reference it multiple times. The entire main story relies on 7 having happened. We also know it's not an AU because Yagami meets Ono Michio's manager who directly talks about Kiryu and Amon talks about Yagami only retaining the title of "Strongest man" for a year.
Yakuza is canon to Judgment
Judgment is not canon to Yakuza
Shin is in 7 as is the Yagami Detective Agency, Genda's lawfirm, and Charles.
Except they didn't lazily reuse the map because 7 doesn't have the Secret Lab in it. They purposely added those landmarks into it because LJ has that specific part of the map added back into it. 7 even has Club Amour in it.
What year does LJ take place in?
>they're gonna make the guy whose facial animation they didn't even complete the next antagonist.
I don't know why people think this. I thought it was pretty obvious he was arrested off screen after all that shit went down.
Slightly unrelated but when does Lost Judgment pick up in pace? It's so fricking boring ffs, I just finished chapter 2
Been emulating Yakuza 1 on PCSX2 and I swear to Goda there's a substantial amount of input lag.
Please no, 0 ruined him enough as it is.
Majima is 54 anon unless you want to play a prequel
Well yeah, personally I was thinking of setting it somewhere between 0 and 1, maybe the time frame when Kiryu is in prison. I've read that for many who started out with 0, Majima's personality difference between 0 and the rest of the series was rather jarring so I'm just saying that setting a Majima story with beat em up mechanics could help with developing his personality as bit more
Sounds dreadful, kys 0gay.
>build and interesting character
>turn him into le wacky comedian
thanks japan
Wasn't he always kind of a wacky comedian? In the original Y1, he was just portrayed as an unhinged lunatic.
Yes.
I'll kill you, surpass Kazama and become the Yakuza 0
Long overdue
>finally give up on the pc port and start playing Judgment on my PS4
>all that loading time and 30fps after playing 6 and 7 on PC
Frick, it's hard going back to this.
go play judgement on series x lmfao. not PS5 though cause its bugged shit.
Judgment Remastered is bugged on PS5? How?
t. played on SeX version
You can also look at this link if you want:
https://www.thegamer.com/judgments-remaster-impressions/
>Where this remaster starts to get a little less impressive is with regards to visuals.
It's taking a well-deserved break, so maybe.
We just got news a couple months back that 8 is close to ending its writing and they're already recording lines.
https://www.dualshockers.com/yakuza-8-scenario-almost-finished-new-development-details-translated/
>He also added that the scenario team at Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio is nearly finished with the game’s story, and are currently writing the game’s climax. Lastly, Masayoshi Yokoyama also mentioned that several cast members of Yakuza 8 have started recording their characters’ lines.
We'll most likely see an announcement at TGS and then it comes out in November or December.
Thank frick we'll be getting global launches from now on.
The last Yakuza related news I remember was Kaoru and Kiryu being added to Rainbow Six Siege
He left with no survivors, nobody at RGGS right now has the expertise to tackle remaking those games, they were like Sato's pet projects.
Yes, it's actually my favorite but most people would probably rate it roughly 3ish level or so with all the issues it has. It's got an enjoyable story and some fun substories with my favorite maps in the series. The combat is riddled with issues such as
>People constantly stabbing you in the middle of combos so you slowly fall down.
If you just want the secret boss you still need to care about not missing substories.
shut up
Rough stuff, especially as far as 'luck' goes for a run.
>RPCS3 can't save state.
CTRL+S
Didn't even know this was a thing, I thought they still had trouble trying to implement it. This feels more like a sleep mode sort of deal since it forcibly closes the game out and you can (seemingly?) only have one.
Nishiki started comically shallow, K1 actually fleshed him out by comparison.

>Kiryu's taxi driving.
I loved that minigame a lot, made being a taxi driver seem comfy.
anyone else laugh their ass off when this intro plays? https://youtu.be/Wj5cfsRVxWE
the characters' mouths sync up so well with the music it fricking kills me
>DIS SERIES DED NAO.
>Only started playing the games in 2017 because Zero.
Silly contrarian moron. The series has evolved.
Judgement combat is awful
Ichiban deserved better.
Lost Judgment sucked balls
I don't even know if Tendo could beat Someya.
>beat by Ichiban
By definition a low tier crook, would probably be some street thug that pulls Kiryu up in Kamurocho and ends up with 50 broken bones.
Beat by Ichiban and his friends ganging up on him.
0 and kiwami are really popular with cuckolds but not the others.
K1 is the best in the series.
K1's story was the fricking worst. Nishiki became such a comically shallow homosexual
Did you mix up K1 for Y1?
>0 is the first good story they’ve told in decades
>contrarian gays hate it because somehow they think 4 is an acceptable baseline for storytelling
You've never read a book, 0gay. No need to act high brow and defensive.
>0 is bad because it’s not up to the highest standards of literature
Alright what’s the rest of the series then, where the writing is below the lowest standards of tv series?
What are you talking about moron? No one said it was bad, you're so stupid you got defensive for no reason. I already pointed that out to you. Now try again, 0gay.
>turn-based
Only LAD is turn based. More importantly, they are called turn BASED for a reason. Frick off.
Baba-chan...
What's even there to write a game about the Yakuza set in modern times when they've all but gone to shit already? I'd be fine with more retro spinoffs
Maybe RGGS just needs a new IP. Binary Domain was the radest shit ever.
DON’T.
He canonically hits the RiZaP gym in 6.
Sure, but so does Sodachi and he's not exactly a tough fight.
Lol are you implying Sodachi is anywhere near Kiryu's fighting level?
Just because someone hits the gym doesn't mean they'll be trained in martial arts or boxing, in fact most roidheads could probaly get beat by almost any person with surface level knoweledge on any martial art.
My point is Rizap means nothing.
I was kinda sad to watch the Tojo meeting room attendence slowly dwindle as the series progressed.
honestly I still have no clue why Kiryu and Daigo fought in 4
>Aizawa who admittedly had no idea what he was doing there
He meant that he didn’t know if he was there because of his father, or himself.
>Aizawa gets get up by Kiryu
>Aizawa gets beat up by Saejima
>All the sudden Aizawa is the final boss
I hate Yakuza's inconsistency
They'll never understand english, just leave them be.
Yeah, but it’s funnier the other way.
Sodachi is very much a tough fight in 6. He started scrawny but he clearly made enormous gains.
Frick I wish RGG made Kiryu MC in Yakuza 8, just ONE last game as him. Ichiban is shit. His VA is great though
>8 years younger
anon...
Kiryu's 50 in Y7.
well one of the other points of Y7 is being an older person staring in a JRPG and trying to find work at such an old age and in general trying to start your life again from rock bottom. I doubt Ichi will be the MC for 6 games like Kiriyu so I don't see that as an issue.
That boss fight sucked wiener like every boss in 7
Shitty damage sponges with nothing interesting
Kiryu’s appearance in 7 was forced as frick, and awful
to add to this, half of 7 was genuine soul, but the other have was some of the most soulless shit, and shows how shit of the impact 0's had on the series.
rehashed humour and bullshit ike
>dude remember be my baby?
>dude remember nugget, well here's omelette!
>here's PCR again!
>here's the ono michio substory again
>actually we get to retcon kashiwagi's death
>here's han joon gi but it's a different guy, and this one is a totally boring c**t
>kiryu coming back because the devs can't let him go, so he can just say "ichiban you'll be super duper like me" and other cringe bullshit
fricking awful
they couldn't even be bothered to make the combat any good, and try to rely on the silly shit to carry it (which it doesn't, since the novelty wears off after an hour of seeing it, on top of many problems being hard to ignore)
>>dude remember be my baby?
>>here's the ono michio substory again
we get to retcon kashiwagi's death
None of these have anything to do with 0 and they were all good substories. Also Kashiwagi's retcon is good because his death in 3 was shit anyway.
my point was that they rehashed them because they were popular. they've even said they look to nugget's popularity in 0 for humour in substories, and i guess by extension, any other substories that could've been popular.
they're funny once, but reusing this exact joke again isn't, and it's just lazy as frick.
>also retconning is good
no
they shouldn't just retcon shit for mindless fan wank. and if they keep doing it, it'll get harder to take certain shit seriously.
>they shouldn't just retcon shit for mindless fan wank
Like I said Kashiwagi's retcon was good because his death in 3 was bad.
>my point was that they rehashed them because they were popular.
Something they did many many times before 0 was even in conception.
>Something they did many many times before 0 was even in conception.
name substories where they rehashed the exact same joke and punchline many many times.
going to add that the only times i can remember them reusing a joke very blatantly was with kiryu bumping into a guy and "breaking" his shoulder in 1 and 3.
i'm not counting shit like a recurring character like komaki, or GBH since they're not really jokes.
>Fake Kiryu returning in 4
>The bump and scam guy returning in 3
>The entire Akimoto and Mizuki saga
>0 or K2 also reused Kenzan's "Lie to a guy's wife at dinner in a comedic way to protect his cover" substory when Majima had to lie about where I think Yuki was to her dad?
I completely forgot about that. Judgment did that too with a guys wife who was drunk.
nah the diaper dumpers was the same punchline of the outlandishness of their fetish. the only real difference was the buildup since you're under the impression that there's actual babies in trouble or whatever.
you can tell it's there just because they had the assets in K2, and it was always one of the more popular ones. it's substantial enough to be done once, but doesn't need to be done multiple times, since it's not like the bump and scam ones.
at least with akimoto and mizuki there's a progression with their relationship too, but here it's just the same shit really.
omelette being here is probably the worst offender, since it's only here because nugget was absurdly popular. (they didn't even have buildup to it last time, they just took the "haha funny chicken/rooster/turkey" and slapped him into a special move which also ended up being one of the most popular summons people saw)
there's genuinely good ones in the game, like ichiban trying to stop a fruit falling from a tree, or even that one when you're sitting by the road with a traffic clicker, and it's all nice fun.
i'll give you fake kiryu, since i somehow erased the fact that he was in 4, and it did bother me when i saw them pull a fake yagami in LJ.
>i'll give you fake kiryu, since i somehow erased the fact that he was in 4
He is also in Kurohyou 2 but you wouldn't know since it's untranslated.
it did get a fan translation, but i haven't bothered yet, since i'd like 1 to get a proper one before i touch it.
>since it's untranslated.
BP2's been translated for a couple months. The only things not translated are the Shine Simon Says minigame and hostesses. The Obatarians are also a joke from BP2 reused in 0.
is kiryu unrecognizable when he's not subtitled or something?
But they said they're not going back to finish up what BP1 didn't finish until after they finish BP2's missing content.
>at least with akimoto and mizuki there's a progression with their relationship too, but here it's just the same shit really.
Yeah, Akimoto and Mizuki had a story that wound up playing out over three games and concluded. I don't think they've been seen since Y3.
The modern day ones haven't been seen since but Ishin has them in its main story progression for Ryoma to find out information on the Shinsengumi collaborators.
Y6 really doesn't feel like The Last Kiryu Game at all.
i think it's obvious they're not done with kiryu.
Ryuji even gloats about that in 2.
oh so it's a "I'm dissapointed in you, I'm gonna beat your ass as a lesson" fight
He was present just long enough.
>made Kiryu MC in Yakuza 8
I'm surprised most people aren't tired of Kiryu after Yakuza 4.
The only Yakuza games I have played are 0 and 7.
I will NEVER play the PS2 games.
I will NEVER play 3, 4, 5, or 6.
I will NEVER play Judgement.
I will NEVER play the PSP games.
I will NEVER play any other spin-off.
And I REFUSE to buy Yakuza 8 if it is not an RPG.
>skipping the games that yakuzagays keep pretending are not shit
BASED
>playing 7
cringe
>wanting another game like 7
holy CRINGE
They're cuter than Haruka
bratty idols.. need correction..
i was gonna buy it but then i saw the gdq speedrun and im 100% not touching it fricking ver.
DQ11 was *the* last 4 homies in a row turnbased shitter im ever touching. just like metroidvanias, ive played every goddamned interpretation and iteration of said genres.
Good, please stay away.
Kiryu should have died in 6 and never show up again
Go play Dead Souls.
It's good.
Since Judgment is dead, give me an adventure game starring Amasawa and Itokura opening their own detective agency. Game focused more on investigation, infiltration, information gathering, logic puzzles, etc. with any combat being used sparingly to punctuate things.
I just don't want either of them to be one-off characters or if, by some miracle, there's a J3 they only get a cameo via a substory.
ok guys, listen, I have solved Yakuza 8
Haruto game inspired by pic related
I feel like Yakuza 7 or 8 should have been the okinawa kids growing up into the yakuza (specifically taichi, mitsuo and koji) where their dreams failed and they fell into that direction as a quicker way to make money for the orphanage
I mean this more now than ever, kys 0gay. Genuinely the dumbest shit I've heard from one of you.
You could add in their hero worship of Kiryu and their messed up states of mind due to Kiryu abandoning them multiple times.
please fricking god let us use the actual character "jobs" as a way to earn money instead of spamming the brainless business sim thing for hours as the only decent way of getting dosh holy frick
that and get some actual jrpg people to design the combat and classes because most abilities are worthless and you have zero control over positioning so AoE is mostly a wash
Thanks Uncle Phil!
Justice for Hoshino in Judgment 3 please. Lost Judgment was soulless compared to Judgment even if I will admit the combat was better.
>Lost Judgment was soulless compared to Judgment
How so?
But all the girlfriends in LJ are shit and they brought back the worst one from J1 as well.
>that the dating substories were worse than every single one in Judgment
Counterpoint. Minato > Nanami.
Yeah, true, Nanami was probably the worst girl of the original. Should have let us date her friend instead.
I GO THE EXTRA MILE
The start of Yakuza Kiwami was extremely boring but it seems to be kind of picking up now that some guys just tried to kidnap Haruka from Kiryu. I understand the intro was trying to set things up but I was wondering why I should care that Reika (or whatever her name was) wanted gifts too on someone else's birthday. It felt like some weirdo jealous b***h shit.
Knowing this series, it's probably gonna have some plot relevance later on.
The entire ring bit is new to K1. It's just to set up a few things about several characters because they didn't establish a lot early on.
Ichiban is fricking terrible. Judgement without gay ass tracking would be a great Yakuza game.
How?
Why does 0 make people seethe?
Because it’s popular
I love beatemup action games. The fact that they took it all away makes me hate the new game. Yakuza is dead to me.
Judgement is my new jam.
Did you even try 7?
>THERE'S A TRAITOR IN THE TOJO CLAN!
>THERE'S A TRAITOR IN THE TOJO CLAN!
>THERE'S A TRAITOR IN THE TOJO CLAN!
What game doesn't have a traitor in the Tojo Clan??
Y7
You could argue that Daigo betrayed the Tojo Clan by allowing Arakawa to sell out to the Omi. Truthfully Daigo could've started his whatever company he founded at the end of Y7 without dissolving the Tojo.
I'm still mad Kaoru frickin left Kiryu for burgerland and he hasn't been in a relationship ever since.
Nagoshi’s obsession with Kiryu’s virginity has been disastrous.
Where do you think Kiryu stores all his power? If Kiryu is deflowered he loses all his strength.
Without Nagoshi yea its DOA. Expect it to get massively chigyuu friendly. They'll probably have that option in yoshinoya.
I only ever want to play a single Yakuza game, and will not invest in the story, or the series over-arching plot.
Which game is the best for this?
7
bump
Dead Souls
3
5
3 or 0
Yakuza 0
Poz trash. Nuke japan
8 will sell like shit. the 7normalgays won't come back.
not if they advertise it as another entry point, which is what they may end up doing.
it's obvious that most people don't stick around for a lot of the sequels, since they more of the same.
if 8 is basically the same shit, there will be a chunk of people dropping off out of disinterest, which is a reason trying to make multiple JRPG in a setting as restrictive as this, on top of how much the series typically rehashes in terms of assets and shit, which can kill interest in more turn-based games faster.
Just like this thread in less than 40 posts. Thank God.
I am fricking gay aren't I
how many times have you called out story twists before they happen?
most recently, i assumed Yuta was Haruto's dad the moment he saw Haruka's picture
At this point you can safely assume that the highest level politician/police guy/government bureaucrat you meet in the story is the villain.
Imagine if this was a stage/set piece in the next Yakuza game
what a display of power, if only there were a dragon that could rival that power
I fricking hate K1's car chase segment so goddamn much.
I RECEIVE YOU
SONO MAMA ANATA DAKE
I RECEIVE YOU
MARUGOTO UKETOMETE
just use your mouse bro
>No mod to add fart bomb hoodies back into K1.
i regret not starting at Y1. it still holds up really well, even if the combat is a bit clunkier compared to later entries. lots of cool little details. i saw a couple of santas with a crowd around them. in the later games it'd be a substory but here it's just a decoration that adds to the atmosphere
HANASE
Saeko's legs.
That is all.
Better kill the OMI patriarch and let Sagawa get killed in my place
>Yeah, I'm going to brainwash Nishikiyama so he will become Jingu's lapdog, providing me 0 benefits whatsoever
>Yeah, I'm going to fight 1vs1 with the guy that survived Lao Gui's direct attack and was able to defeat the entire Dojima's family + Shibusawa all by himself against all the odds when he was younger and had 0 prison experience
>I hate fricking Kazama but in the korean operation I will follow his orders no matter what
What the actual frick was wrong with him?
he's bald
Decent thread
