So was there ever any actual proof that this game was originally going to be a thing, or was it just a bullshit rumour that certain individuals simply chose to believe?
It's sad that, in the wake of what we've ended up getting on the console, I would fricking kill for a unified Ultra Sun/Moon upscaled for the Switch right about now.

Rumour was from Eurogamer so it was probably legit. Who knows why they cancelled it, maybe they got pushed to get the next generation out instead.

Wasn't this just the codename of USUM before they chose to split it in two games?

Rumor is that Nintendo had several of its 3DS titles being prepared for the Switch in case it started flopping. A version of USUM was one of the games, which is apparently the "Stars" version. There were apparently also some other games prepared that were 3DS ports.

Obviously the Switch was massively successful, so they cancelled those plans and scrapped the port.

This is all allegedly though. We'll probably never know the truth. It's probably real though. The original leaker is pretty accurate.

This is exactly the situation. You can see remnants of this in the Link's Awakening Switch remake

    No.
It was just moronic Poketubers screeching and it was caught by few news websites during dry season. And then people got mad for literally no damn reason because everybody gaslighted themselves that it's real.
Pokemon fans are most moronic fandom ever. I think that even KPop stans are above this.

Any assets for it are fake. The game itself was likely real, if only because porting recent games onto a new system is a common method for developers to quickly get working software on new hardware so they can start getting a feel for things. It was likely just a quick and dirty port with some new features added to test things out with the intention to either quickly build it out into a full release if they felt they needed a game on the switch quickly, or to ditch it as soon as the decision was made to focus on new games.

Given we know Let's Go was functionally an engine test for SS, I imagine there was never really any port of a Gen 7 title. Hell, we have more evidence of them testing it with ORAS for some fricking reason. The only 3DS assets they really used outside of that were some models in the Sword prototype we have, and even then I'm not 100% on that because of how different the file types the Let's Go/SS engine uses. They could have re-tri'd the quad models we know they have, and I dunno which textures they used since the game's lighting engine wasn't really finished at the time.

I doubt it ever was since let's go seems to have been made in response to GO's initial success in 2016, and attempting to move that newfound audience to switch (which Pokémon CEO thought would flop and that smartphones would be the future)

No but there is evidence that they planned on giving XY the BW treatment. Man, the 20th anniversary sure did frick over a lot of shit.

      >Sun, singular
      >Moon, singular
      ... plural
      >>The sun is already a star
      >>The Moon is clouds

Anyone who believed in "Stars" is a massive moron, it was a dogshit name in the first place and immediately obviously fake.
Also gen 7 getting rushed out early ruined gen 6 due to denying us an XY follow-up game (X2/Y2, XZed/YZed, etc).

I do what game will be fricked over in 2025 since Gamefreak wants 2026 to be Gen 10's release date

Not before I kill you for letting the Switch defile the last complete game.

I never understood why "Stars" became so popular, I don't remember seeing any evidence for it
