I always found it ironic people said Ethan has no personality but then will simp for "It's my duty as a Cop!" And no, he has even LESS of a personality in RE4, original especially because all he is is "jokes" that's not a personality. In the real world we'd call that overcompensating. But he's not actually THAT different from his original counterpart, he's still "It's my duty blah blah blah"
I think it's because people can't appreciate characters that try to be down to earth. But there was something simple, but strong to connect to with Ethan and his natural care for the people close to him and his family, and to see somebody react to all the psychotic shit that happened to him as...you know, fricking psychotic?
He isn't actually THAT different from other RE protagonist, he's just actually human. So it's easier to understand him because...he has something "real" to even understand in the first place. He's the closest Capcom has ever gotten to writing a good character, but Capcom still can't help but write moronic stories so it kind of falls awkwardly flat at times.

Hopefully. Re5 remake being a total rewrite of Re5 where wesker lives and spawns an entire new universe of a new 6,7,8 etc. Is the dream. I don't hate the winters but grandpa Chris and no wesker is not a good look for continuing the franchise. It's time for a reboot and reimagining what could be if 5 and 6 didn't shit the bed so hard.
The new universe won't happen until RE10. Resident Evil X, followed by X2, X3 etc. It will be a total reimagining of the mansion incident and go in a completely different story direction.

That DLC was painfully bad, I played it for free and I felt like I wasted time.
