They literally have to change the Jenova blood trail to purple to fit it to a T rating. Rating boards have becoming more and more prudish since the 90's. Or another argument is that, with better graphics there's less leeway to depict certain elements like blood or physical abuse. 100% positive confused Cloud punching Aerith will be cut out from Rebirth and Cid will be really muted. They even changed the way Tseng manhandled Aerith in Remake.

not really, like in XII Vaan should had impaled Vayne when he stab him with his sword instead just kinda pushing him away and there is no blood in scenes where it should be, now the MC can get properly hurt or even kill, war can be properly describe and show instead of the safe shit we had before, also you can "show" sex and curses, will that make it a truly mature story? alone no, depends on how good the writers are and what they want to show.
