Main story is bad and forces you to use Lin and Elma constantly
      In Wii U prison
      Good game otherwise

I played it on my deck though.

      Also that Tatsu exists.

Being forced to use Lin and Elma for 99% of the main story was pretty lame.

        It's an RPG
Though XCX's side quests are good enough that I don't mind the main story too much

              based JRPG
Still a game not a movie

JRPGs are in general built around story based progression, but nevermind that
XCX is gameplay wise pretty much a singleplayer MMO, which isn't too much to brag about mechanically. However, the map and exploration are great, especially as it kind of evolves over time when you get your mech and later upgrade it to be able to fly. Still, even if that's true, you'll want something to compel you to go all around the map looking into nooks and crannies, a reason to do so, which the game does through quests.
Having those quests be shit wouldn't be doing the game any favors.
Luckily, as I'd said, the side quests are pretty good. They were much more memorable than the main ones. It couldn't hurt to also make the main quests better, though.
Do you understand why someone might place importance on the story here?

    >Shoves the entire plot into the last chapter in 1 fricking room.
    >Cliffhanger ending with no intention to continue the game.
    >Horribly grindy and unbalanced endgame.
    >Locked into Elma and Lin for the whole story.
    >Finding your party members is a pain in the ass.
It was a messy as frick game.

now that they are done with xenoblade it's entirely possible we'll see a chronicles x 2

it'll be continued in 20 years after Xenoblade 4 - 9 are made.

It's good, just trapped on the Wii U.
A Switch 2 version with a rework on the absolute mess that was the "loosely connected online" from the original would be nice.

      Anonymous

yeah that online stuff is probably why it never got ported. too much effort to either make that stuff work on switch or take it out entirely

Or maybe Takahashi don't want straight port but definitive edition like what he did with the first xenoblade

MonolithSoft wasn't used to developing HD games yet, so they pretty much had to throw out and heavily rework the original plan and story that they had for X, and turn it into a less story focused open-world style game.

It's easily the best in its series, not least because being gameplay-focused with multiple complex systems whose nuances are often withheld from the player makes it the ultimate pleasure filter, and in such a way that is narratively and thematically appropriate. It's a shame its ambition was wasted on the Wii fricking U.

i'm currently playing xenoblade 3 and while i'm enjoying it, i keep thinking "man i wish i was just playing xenoblade x2"
specially now that i'm at the boat area where you get a version of X, but worse.

    >People didn't like the story
Really it had some of the best cutscenes, felt like a true successor to Xenosaga, and had a lot of cool twists.
