This isn't a good game. It wasn't a good game in 1997, people just couldn't afford computers and definitely weren't buying them for their kids to play video games.
What is with spaniards being so based in late 90s? We got our Dragon Ball manga translated straight from their script and it was almost point-by-point from the original japanese. No other main languages in Europe were so accurate back then - they would always venture in fan wank territority

Steam release. It's basically the same as the original PS1 translation, but with all the spelling mistakes fixed along with a few other small touch-ups. I do believe they changed it so Tifa doesn't call Cloud a moron, though. In any case, if you don't want to play that version, there's a patch that ports it to the PS1 version over in RHDN.

Is there a patch to the Playstation version that adds just these things but without the controversial retranslation, the moronic marching minigame difficulty increase and the game breaking bugs in late game?
It's a serious myth that the original translation is "bad" or incorrect in any way besides typo mistakes. The only problem with it that can cause confusion is the use of the phrase "Sephiroth clone" which in Japanese was "Sephiroth copy" which is just as much an incorrect meaning in the story as well so it's a bad use of words based on a translation of a bad use of borrowed words in Japanese.
You could argue that it is an old fashioned translation that uses a lot of American movie tropes in place of the Japanese anime tropes instead of a more modern localisation that would try to adapt the Japanese trope language to fit English words.
I played it recently after playing the Steam version a few times and no, it's bad. Meaning gets skewed heavily to impact the experience and the typos are distracting. Only good part is Tifa calling someone a moron, that's it

t. Had no clue until she watched Tim Rogers
The average player won't know so it's fine as is. >Muh typos
Autism.
If that's the takeaway anyone gets from the Tim Rodgers videos they need to watch them again, he praises the translation a lot while pointing out where it slips up due to time constraints and simple misunderstandings. It largely debunks the myth it was bad, just sloppy.
They're all bad.

What computer rpg in 1997 could compete with FF7?
Nothing.
Fallout or daggerfall
Nobody asked or gives a frick about your opinion, dumbass. OP is clearly asking for a good translation of the game's scrips, not if it's good or not.
well that wasn't the fricking question was it you fool, you jester, you cretin
Get the Working Designs release
Just play the PC version.
Steam version was retranslated ?
The original 1998 PC version was retranslated, but the Steam version uses this translation instead of the 1997 Playstation one.
Not fully retranslated but it does fix a lot of things.

The original script
this game literally has spelling mistakes what do you mean best translation?
The one where Tifa calls Cloud a moron.
This
This translation is almost as bad as the Final Fantasy IV J2E fan translation.
Since this is the FF7 thread I'm wondering if anyone have a cheat code/ gameshark code for turning off EXP on the PSX version.
Why would you want to turn off EXP lol
Because Tifa is level 16 and I am going with level=age
What are the other characters' age?
She's 20.
Tifa is not 16
Yuffie is the youngest character in the game by far and she's 17. No other character is younger than 20.
spanish from spain 1997
