I really don't get the hate for the gen 5 starters. I thought they were all cool-looking and fun to play as. Emboar, who seems to get the most hate, was easily my favorite. Fire/Fighting is a cool type no matter how much you might complain about it, and it had a great movepool that gave it some decent utility in a pinch at the cost of taking a lot of recoil damage. Just a really fun Pokemon to have on the team, I found.
I prefer the visual designs of the Unova starters, and prefer the typings of the Paldea starters. Either Emboar should’ve been pure Fire, or Samurott and Serperior should’ve had dual types (perhaps even with Samurott taking Fighting and Emboar getting Dark instead)

Meowscarada is pretty good, but I wish it carried over more aspects from Floragato and the lack of ears and weird sleeves are really distracting. I like Skeledirge. Quaquaval is my laast favorite out of all six. Because I'm a little iffy on aspects of Meowscarada's design and I don't like Quaquaval, Unova wins by default.
Still, I'd say I like the Paldean final forms more than Rillaboom and Cinderace, and all bar Quaquaval I like more than Inteleon, so I'd still rank the Paldeans over Galar and Kalos, just behind Alola.
