because anime isn't just appealing to the big bad badass mons. It tosses some cute mons in there as well. Why didn't Bulbasuar or Squirtle reach their final forms? Do we really need Ash having a team of 6 Charizards? They already did that with Journeys
Why does evolution even happen in the ashime if you can reliably complete the gym challenge with a team of NFEs anyway? It even seems like it's an overall inconvenience when it creates situations like shartizard ruining Ash's first League run.
Because some people like cute Pokemon and some people like cool edgy Pokemon, so marketing-wise it makes sense to have both Pikachu and Charizard everywhere.

Because BW was a soft reboot for most of the franchise, the anime included. As such Ash's previous DP competence disappeared and he returned to his OS idiocy. He also kept a bunch of NFE mons in OS, so likewise his team are mostly NFEs here too.
then they over compensated by turning it into a generic shounen with a bland personalityless self insert. BW was still enjoyable since Ash was allowed to emote
I'd much rather watch a generic shonen than an anime where Ash brings one Pokemon to a gym battle and then has to take a leave to go get more from the Pokemon Center when his sole one inevitably gets tired out. Frick BW.
I'd rather watch an enjoyable series with a few really bad episodes than a mediocre and forgettable series. The only things anyone remembers is wanting to frick Serena or losing to Charizard

Considering Serena is by far the most popular anime Pokegirl outside of western genwun circles that can't name any Pokegirl other than Misty, it's fairly obvious your opinion is the outlier here.

XYZ had vastly better fight scenes than every season that came before it. So much of the old fights were just: >”Pikachu, use Thunderbolt!” >*stock footage of Pikachu using Thunderbolt with speed lines behind a flat-colored background*
But in XYZ, most of the moves weren’t stock footage; they were fully animated, and featured the actual setting of the fight in the background. The move effects were super-vibrant, and there was a lot of dynamic camera shots that conveyed a sense of speed and movement that didn’t exist in the anime before then. It’s genuinely the peak of the entire Ashnime; hence why it torpedo’d so hard in ratings after Ash lost and they changed the artstyle so drastically in Alola.
So the only thing that excites you is the battles despite having a terrible character, but he abuses oc form and as the idiot said below, he confirms that he only likes it because they are definitely self-inserted, all the xyz fans were simply your boys, they consumed low quality shonenes

Scraggy was treated like Axew’s sibling and they stayed the same stage, Axew as well until the writers made Iris a Champion.
Because best wishes is a badly written season.
