Discovered this gem about 6 months ago. I have become an established player. I wanted to bring more strategy enthusiasts onboard.
Solaris:
space military strategy, with heavy emphasis on logistics
real-time: games last ~2 weeks, with ticks every 30 minutes
diplomacy: alliances, tech trading, backstabbing
open source, fully free, community developed
small and passionate community

mobile slop with ai assets
shill elsewhere
it's a community developed game
the only AI assets are the portraits
the actual game is very good strategy, diplomacy, and tactics. at least give it a proper look
Why are you like this? What’s the point of being such a hateable homosexual. Is negative attention better then no attention?
okay i have signed up for your game, anon
but i will not be buying solaris+
he wanted to say the slop word.
haha i said goyslop
so funny
because slop
I'm not the creator kek
Don't buy anything
Glad you're giving it a shot
I don't know the story to be honest. From what I know Solaris is a lot more community driven in development rather than unilaterally run by the dev
A lot of our community contribute to the code, etc., and we have an open consortium for proposing mechanics, etc
Is this basically OGAME?
it's quite similar to Subterfuge and Neptune's Pride
lol, it's literally just a clone of neptune's pride
might as well play the original instead of this
took a look, no, it's much more minimalist. it's pure strategy and tactics, no bullshit larp
it's functionally a lot like a board game
How many players are there? These always-running games are only fun if there are like 100 players in an arena.
the active community is a few hundred players
there are 32p games, with 48p coming soon.
however, 8p are also quite popular and there are always some going on.
>real-time: games last ~2 weeks, with ticks every 30 minutes
so all i have to do is to stay awake for 300 hours straight? sounds fun
no, I usually queue stuff a few times a day in short sessions. If you're in a war with someone you may need to be more vigilant. You can queue all sorts of things way in advance
>If you're in a war with someone you may need to be more vigilant
after the start of the game, you are always at war with someone
and you will need to stay up all night in order to win the war
3-4 hour turns worked for ferion and cosmic supremacy
they'd work here, too
not really true, in practice you can usually queue up a bunch of movements
even with war, things happen REALLY slowly. it could take 4-8 hours to take a single star for instance. And you can queue as many actions as you want. The checking in is useful if you need to adjust plans
yes, it's in many ways a fork of NP with its own community and philosophy. we had a big influx of NP players recently
if you like NP, you may like this, or just go play NP I suppose
so why'd they fork NP?
did the NP devs piss off someone so much that he had to make a new version of the game?
Remember playing this a while back. I don't think you can script specialist hires like with subterfuge which sucks, more micro.
I prefer the diplomacy board game, (the large pop) solaris/subterfuge matches often have players vassalise defeated foes/allies as 1 province thralls for spec points which ruins balance and isn't fun to fight against imo.
Maybe that has less to do with the game mechanics and more with people being content with second place.
thank you, I appreciate the actual discussion and criticism
yeah, I think everything you said is true
regarding the vassalization meta, there's a lot of ongoing discussion on how to balance it
I personally only play 8p matches, which don't have such issues in my experience
It's a hard problem to solve. Mechanically one might implement a cap on active specialists (units or buildings) based on tech that's high enough so that you rarely reach it on your own if you aren't gifted points.
The vassals themselves could still micro the specs of course, though they at least need to be active.
But then again, solely having a large bank of points for burning through specialists is a great power on its own.
And it's also hard to make rules forbidding it because there isn't a clear line between functional allies and totally dependent vassals.
Though I must be fair and say that I really like specialists, they are a ton of fun to play around with.
I've always been a sucker for subterfuge's pirate + navigator combo (target moving units instead of bases + change course at any time) and smuggler (3x speed in interior lines), though they were way too powerful.
I'd love to see novel specialists if there's room for them. Though balancing them is just as important, I think some of them are really good and others are noob traps.
Thank you, very good explanation.
We have a lot of discussion into trying to counterbalance these cheeses, as well as a constant stream of new specialist ideas that people give feedback on. Hopefully we can continue incorporating some of them
i spawned between two empires that have a banana emoji for their clan tag.
am i just going to get dp'd
why does this game have clans?
