It's also why they're porting to PC's. Modern consoles are just bigger number versions of their previous generations. If you're gonna buy something like that, why not get a Computer that has a giant existing library of games and let's you do so much more with the hardware, on top of the modularity of a PC letting you gradually upgrade hardware instead of buying a whole new prebuilt brick at a time?
Sony (and Microsoft) have no real ideas on how to push consoles forwards, which is why they're so focused on buying out smaller companies like they're EA, and why they've been silently accepting that they should just be porting their games to PC.

The PS3 launch was in 2006. Uncharted 1 came out in 2007 and is hardly a movie game, it honestly features the most gameplay of the entire franchise. Heavy Rain didn't come out until 2010 and The Last of Us wasn't until 2013. Sonycinemaslop began with TLOU and then reached max moviegame mode with nuGOW, Spiderman and the Order 1886. Most PS3 games were just good games.

Long story short, you can fix a YLOD PS3 by replacing parts with newer parts from newer models. If you can follow instructions and use a soldering iron, you can do it. Unless you're this guy.

I had luck just getting them from thrift stores and places like CEX. Opened up all of them and confirmed they're all real. Very glad I have about 4 now.
eBay is completely fricked for them because the chink ones are honestly really convincing in pictures but are complete garbage to use. Even the supposedly sealed ones aren't trustworthy because the chinks are replicating the real dualshock packaging.
One thing to note is that you'll see a lot of people saying that if the red player lights shine through the controller, that means its a fake. But in my experience this isn't always true. I have a 100% confirmed red dualshock 3 that does this too.

Does it even do its job considering SATA port itself in PS3 is very slow.
They speed up texture rendering quite noticeably in some games, menu feels smoother and generally smaller loading times. Biggest improvement will be for people who pirate games and have them all installed on the drive. They are pretty cheap anyway and more reliable if bought not from unknown meme brands.
I would say even for minimal QoL improvements it's totally worth the price.
