Aside from Ashley and Luis, the rest of the cast is a lot more stale in the remake. I like the gameplay of remake but the OG is so smooth while the Remake as the same sluggish feeling that plagues modern games

Not only does he look like a completely different character, he looks 10 years older and significantly sleazier, but without the charming part to go with it.
There's more to his character and you see him more in the remake. The haggard look also helps to sell the expanded backstory they gave him, because by the time of the game he's fresh off of at least a handful of years on the run from governments, Umbrella remnants and then the Los Illuminados cult one after the other.
