Actors like him need to learn that audiences would love to see them in big-budget movies as long as they get to be themselves. I'm sure an MCU or DC movie would avoid being a total flop if they knew Ace Ventura is in it doing his shtick.

Instead of Sonic, Tails, and Tom getting nabbed by GUN, Tails should have stayed buried in the snow. Then, when Sonic and Tom get taken away, Tails pops out and asks Maddie and Rachel to help him, gives them some guns, and it's a "Tails saves his fried while Maddie saves her husband and Rachel gets revenge" segment.

said. 1 is mostly just a decent family movie that stars Sonic. I'd say its still worth watching since Jim Carrey is a massive highlight, and I like the origin story for him here. It also establishes lore that 2 and potentially 3 and the Knuckles show are going to tap into much more.
2 is probably the best vidya movie you can watch rn. It does suffer a bit from what feels like Paramount executives being out of touch and wanting non-vidya elements like the wedding scene, but ignoring the lame filler, its easily an upgrade in every single department. The third act is awesome, especially if you've been a longtime Sonic fan. I still remember the excitement from the kids in my theater. Also Knuckles is better written in Sonic 2 than any piece of Sonic media since 2001

Anon my mother grew up with classic Sonic just like I did. It's her that is how I grew up on Mario, Pacman, Sonic and even fricking Rayman. She was a early era gamer when gaming was less for nerds but not as soulless and normie approved like todays mobile market. Without her, I wouldn't be here, which after all these years probably would have been for the better but it's too late now. Of course I was going to have her watch a Sonic movie with me, it's something we have in common with each other. I even have to explain what she might get herself into seeing movie 3 because, of course, she didn't play any 3D Sonic game ever because she's an adult that doesn't have time juts to keep playing video games forever. She was still invested because she liked the movies, so I watch to keep that bond while I still can. This very well might be the last movie I get to have with her at this point.
I just want it to be a decent experience if we are going to watch this together, and besides, even I don't wanna deal with you autists pissing yourselves senseless over the rush of feeling validated watching this SA2 movie. The only real dangling thread here is the "multiple story route" mechanic, which the thread the other anon linked could never come to a concrete conclusion on. Official Dreamcast Magazine does mention the whole "Sonic can either pilot a submarine or escape it and try to flee above water" thing, and other vague mentions of having some sort of "choice" when playing as Sonic, but beyond that, no one at Sonic Team ever explicitly says that the story had branching paths. Or at least not in these magazine interviews, anyway. Someone might've asked during one of the many fan conventions over the years, or on Twitter, but I can't speak to either of those.

That's because SA1 and SA2 were the last Sonic games made for a Sega console.
Reminder that working on Heroes nearly killed Iizuka and he was inspired by Jak II to make Shadow. That's two games he worked on which were critical flops and were victims of the Sonic cycle.
Heroes was so rushed Iizuka slept at the office and nearly died making it and the team at STI was burned out and barely cared making Shadow. Development moved back to Japan for 06 and SR and Iizuka became less involved.
In a way, Xbox is a continuation of the Dreamcast. Sega had to switch from a SA1/SA2 proprietary engine to Renderware to get Heroes running on a PS2 because Sony effectively forced them at gunpoint. Shadow, on the other hand, was made by an indifferent team with no passion left. Iizuka was phoning in here

Shadow the hedgehog exists because he played Jak III while recovering and learning how to eat again. Naka didn't care anymore either, having been reduced to an executive producing or chief producing many games per year, his days as programmer long behind him
Sonic 06 onwards is a new group entirely, due to the reestructuring caused by Sammy merger and biggest example of crunch because of its infamous holiday 2006 release date being forced on an unfinished game

Its also a bit of a callback/reference to the scene where she convinces a literal robot to ignore its programming and have a heart in SA1. Amy's very good at making people feel empathetic and face-turn.
Still, you could argue that their roles are already filled by other characters in the movieverse, and Amy's talk with Shadow doesn't hit as hard without any prior buildup or establishing her in the lore first.
That scene is overrated as frick. Awful to just do some random remind at the last minute shit to trigger something.

Nah Mario movie is mid but at least 99% of its music was from the games, with the exception of them using take on me and some other pop songs instead of the music they had already made
The real answer is that they are actually fricking ashamed, the guy doing the music usually doesn't give a frick about the franchise and they rarely even use the music from the actual games (Or a remix).
Mario movie was the exception but ~~*Holywood execs*~~ shoehorned a bunch of IRL songs there, however the guy who did the music fought tooth and nail to use the Starman theme in the final battle instead of Van Halen's jump....

A reminder that the TV media for Mario and Sonic were like this, too. All of the Mario cartoons were 99% game music and either covers of real songs or original songs. The only Sonic cartoon that used game music was AoStH and it only used brief bits of the title theme for Sonic 1/2 for the intro and Sonic Sez intro.
I can forgive this since the soundtracks for the Genesis games were probably too much of a licensing nightmare for small time animation studios to be worth the bother with all the different owners those tracks have.

I always preferred David Humphrey to Griffith. Griffith has some good bits but his strained whispering sounds unnatural and overly broody, while Humphrey was able to give Shadow a much wider expressive range that always sounded natural.

The weird thing is, in Shadow the Hedgehog's intro cinematic, Griffith comes DAMN close to Humphrey's performance. It makes me wonder if the rest of his voice work is due to voice direction or what, but he seemingly can do it. At least for that specific scene.

A lot of Shadow's lyrics had to do with how conflicted he feels. Even in his theme, "Throw It All Away", it comments on how, even if he is immortal, it doesn't matter and he would rather throw it all away because the life itself is meaningless.
In Rhythm and Balance, the White Jungle stage where you have to save Rouge before the island explodes, the song asks over and over if Shadow is scared, once again that if he fails, he will lose yet another person close to him.
In the Supernatural, Final Chase's stage, the song starts asking if Shadow is even the Ultimate Lifeform to begin with as he gets closer to Maria's "dream."
The Biolizard of course, is unironically what I'd call Shadow's swan song. "Supporting Me" sounds just like the title, Shadow has finally given up revenge and learned that he wants to protect the world but he doesn't really know how to do this. He will do everything in his power, knowing that Maria is supporting him in order to fulfill her last wish, even if it means his untimely end, which the song references at the end of the song as well.
And of course, Live and Learn. Pretty explanatory, but it's learning to live with your mistakes and to keep moving in life even if all seems lost.
Shadow's story was unironically a great lead up from a broken individual lead on by hatred to one of redemption, giving his life to the ones he tried to destroy in the first place. We really won't have kino like this again, but at least its here.

I feel like they did that because they wanted to leave sequel hooks in but didn't actually have any real ideas for a sequel (they probably didn't even expect to be greenlit for a sequel). They might have thought movie 2 was going to be a mishmash of S2 and CD instead of S2 and S3.
Makes sense, they introduce the idea of time travel this movie and then just tease that this causes the Iblis incident. The timeline is fractured and this creature finds the fissure, but when it tries to enter, it can't fully and instead takes on the appearance of the one that caused the timeline to fracture, i.e Shadow. It all makes fricking sense. Then just put the rest of Iblis into Donut Lord's daughter.
I don't even know if they can keep bringing Jimbo back for each movie.
I suppose theoretically, Black Doom since he can be the villain of a Shadow spin-off.

Reminder to play the original SA1/SA2 Dreamcast versions for story mode. The Dreamcast transparency engine is unique
The cool stencil shadows from the Dreamcast version are gone and have been replaced by more standard framebuffer shadows. Honestly, it's for the best. The DC shadows were impressive for self-shadowing, but due to processing power limitations, devs were limited on the amount of polys they could use for them. So they didn't give the stencil shadows any joints, and frankly it looks weird when characters are in motion with floating Rayman-limb shadows.
SA2B's framebuffer shadows have a couple of issues. EFB shadows are only cast by playable characters and by destroyed cars while they're physics-ing around. Because of this, a lot of models no longer cast shadows, such as all enemies and all non-destroyed cars (cars only cast EFB shadows once you start knocking them around. I have no idea why.)
EFB shadows don't cast on some objects (e.g. boxes) and some surfaces (too many scattered examples to remember).
Pulleys are now an ugly fullbright color and they no longer flash. (Who cares lol). This is caused by that same tinting issue I mentioned earlier; plenty of miscellaneous objects are affected too.
SA2 DC abused the Dreamcast's volumetric fog features for some interesting effects, like security alarms (Iron Gate, Flying Dog, Egg Quarters) and approximated "rain waves" (White Jungle). These effects are gone in SA2B, replaced with full-screen overlays (Flying Dog, Egg Quarters) or with a rotating vertex light (Iron Gate). It could be time constraints, or it could be that the GameCube doesn't have equivalent rendering features that would allow it to do striped fog.
Another transparency issue: Character's power-up items aren't affected by any transparencies in cutscenes lmao. Knuckles finding Sonic right after Sonic does Chaos Control is a great example.

There will be no sonic 4, odds are if they do another movie it will be those stupid fricking monster things that sega kept shilling and everyone hated. There is other big bads that are not eggman, granted not as iconic or anywhere near as based.
A few options:
1. Nothing; there is no fourth movie, and the movie series ends with Sonic 3. TV shows sprinkled here and there, but no movies for a long time.
2. Loose SA1 adaptation. Chaos is reworked to tie-in to Longclaw and the various "other worlds" hinted at in Sonic 2 and its comic while reincorporating his original lore with the Echidnas. This will be the most lore-heavy of the movies and introduce most if not the rest of the main cast (Amy, Rouge, etc.).
3. Shadow the Hedgehog; Black Arms are now an alien race that Longclaw once fought against and was originally hiding the Emeralds from. They come to Earth, the gang fight back, movie ends with Sonic deciding to return to his homeworld so that no more threats come to Earth
4. Something completely original. Evil Agent Stone, G.U.N. conspiracy, etc.

Apprehension is defiantly going to be the word for it. However, the bad parts of 06's story are all to do with Elise. Everything else is interesting. Melphise, Iblis and Solaris are all great. Just remove Iblis being sealed in Elise and having to get her to cry and the story becomes not a highly veiled attempt at giving Sonic his human girl friend, like was originally intended.

Story wise it's mostly fine. Rush or Battle could probably be adapted pretty well into movies without much baggage or connection to titles they didn't adapt (especially since Eggman is replaceable in either with minimal rewriting)

Instead of Sonic, Tails, and Tom getting nabbed by GUN, Tails should have stayed buried in the snow. Then, when Sonic and Tom get taken away, Tails pops out and asks Maddie and Rachel to help him, gives them some guns, and it's a "Tails saves his fried while Maddie saves her husband and Rachel gets revenge" segment.

said. 1 is mostly just a decent family movie that stars Sonic. I'd say its still worth watching since Jim Carrey is a massive highlight, and I like the origin story for him here. It also establishes lore that 2 and potentially 3 and the Knuckles show are going to tap into much more.
2 is probably the best vidya movie you can watch rn. It does suffer a bit from what feels like Paramount executives being out of touch and wanting non-vidya elements like the wedding scene, but ignoring the lame filler, its easily an upgrade in every single department. The third act is awesome, especially if you've been a longtime Sonic fan. I still remember the excitement from the kids in my theater. Also Knuckles is better written in Sonic 2 than any piece of Sonic media since 2001

Anon my mother grew up with classic Sonic just like I did. It's her that is how I grew up on Mario, Pacman, Sonic and even fricking Rayman. She was a early era gamer when gaming was less for nerds but not as soulless and normie approved like todays mobile market. She and my older brother were the reasons I got into video games in the first place, and how I ultimately became a Sonicgay in the first place. Without her, I wouldn't be here, which after all these years probably would have been for the better but it's too late now. Of course I was going to have her watch a Sonic movie with me, it's something we have in common with each other. I even have to explain what she might get herself into seeing movie 3 because, of course, she didn't play any 3D Sonic game ever because she's an adult that doesn't have time juts to keep playing video games forever. She was still invested because she liked the movies, so I watch to keep that bond while I still can. This very well might be the last movie I get to have with her at this point.

The only real dangling thread here is the "multiple story route" mechanic, which the thread the other anon linked could never come to a concrete conclusion on. Official Dreamcast Magazine does mention the whole "Sonic can either pilot a submarine or escape it and try to flee above water" thing, and other vague mentions of having some sort of "choice" when playing as Sonic, but beyond that, no one at Sonic Team ever explicitly says that the story had branching paths. Or at least not in these magazine interviews, anyway. Someone might've asked during one of the many fan conventions over the years, or on Twitter, but I can't speak to either of those.

Reminder that working on Heroes nearly killed Iizuka and he was inspired by Jak II to make Shadow. That's two games he worked on which were critical flops and were victims of the Sonic cycle.
Heroes was so rushed Iizuka slept at the office and nearly died making it and the team at STI was burned out and barely cared making Shadow. Development moved back to Japan for 06 and SR and Iizuka became less involved.
In a way, Xbox is a continuation of the Dreamcast. Sega had to switch from a SA1/SA2 proprietary engine to Renderware to get Heroes running on a PS2 because Sony effectively forced them at gunpoint. Shadow, on the other hand, was made by an indifferent team with no passion left. Iizuka was phoning in here

Shadow the hedgehog exists because he played Jak III while recovering and learning how to eat again. Naka didn't care anymore either, having been reduced to an executive producing or chief producing many games per year, his days as programmer long behind him
Sonic 06 onwards is a new group entirely, due to the reestructuring caused by Sammy merger and biggest example of crunch because of its infamous holiday 2006 release date being forced on an unfinished game
Unleashed and Generations were built for Xbox 360/PC.

She also gives the audience more perspective on G.U.N. and how influential they are, considering she's revealed to be working directly with them.

Its also a bit of a callback/reference to the scene where she convinces a literal robot to ignore its programming and have a heart in SA1. Amy's very good at making people feel empathetic and face-turn.
Still, you could argue that their roles are already filled by other characters in the movieverse, and Amy's talk with Shadow doesn't hit as hard without any prior buildup or establishing her in the lore first.
Amy is the one who convinces Shadow to join up with everyone else in LAST story and defeat the biohazard.
That scene is overrated as frick. Awful to just do some random remind at the last minute shit to trigger something.
Calling it now, the film will get rid of shadow trying to nuke the earth due to memory manipulation and instead hes just going to attempt traveling through time through means that will result in damage

Nah Mario movie is mid but at least 99% of its music was from the games, with the exception of them using take on me and some other pop songs instead of the music they had already made
The real answer is that they are actually fricking ashamed, the guy doing the music usually doesn't give a frick about the franchise and they rarely even use the music from the actual games (Or a remix).
Mario movie was the exception but ~~*Holywood execs*~~ shoehorned a bunch of IRL songs there, however the guy who did the music fought tooth and nail to use the Starman theme in the final battle instead of Van Halen's jump....
The worst part is, that I think that song would have also worked great for that scene, however I am incredibly happy they used music from the games for the most part.

A reminder that the TV media for Mario and Sonic were like this, too. All of the Mario cartoons were 99% game music and either covers of real songs or original songs. The only Sonic cartoon that used game music was AoStH and it only used brief bits of the title theme for Sonic 1/2 for the intro and Sonic Sez intro.
I can forgive this since the soundtracks for the Genesis games were probably too much of a licensing nightmare for small time animation studios to be worth the bother with all the different owners those tracks have.

Shadow trying to Time Travel to save Maria sounds great and obviously doing so would cause a time ripple effect that could destroy everything in the present. A lot of Shadow's lyrics had to do with how conflicted he feels. Even in his theme, "Throw It All Away", it comments on how, even if he is immortal, it doesn't matter and he would rather throw it all away because the life itself is meaningless.
In Rhythm and Balance, the White Jungle stage where you have to save Rouge before the island explodes, the song asks over and over if Shadow is scared, once again that if he fails, he will lose yet another person close to him.
In the Supernatural, Final Chase's stage, the song starts asking if Shadow is even the Ultimate Lifeform to begin with as he gets closer to Maria's "dream."
The Biolizard of course, is unironically what I'd call Shadow's swan song. "Supporting Me" sounds just like the title, Shadow has finally given up revenge and learned that he wants to protect the world but he doesn't really know how to do this. He will do everything in his power, knowing that Maria is supporting him in order to fulfill her last wish, even if it means his untimely end, which the song references at the end of the song as well.
And of course, Live and Learn. Pretty explanatory, but it's learning to live with your mistakes and to keep moving in life even if all seems lost.
Shadow's story was unironically a great lead up from a broken individual lead on by hatred to one of redemption, giving his life to the ones he tried to destroy in the first place. We really won't have kino like this again, but at least its here.

Reminder to play the original SA1/SA2 Dreamcast versions for story mode. The Dreamcast transparency engine is unique
The cool stencil shadows from the Dreamcast version are gone and have been replaced by more standard framebuffer shadows. Honestly, it's for the best. The DC shadows were impressive for self-shadowing, but due to processing power limitations, devs were limited on the amount of polys they could use for them. So they didn't give the stencil shadows any joints, and frankly it looks weird when characters are in motion with floating Rayman-limb shadows.
SA2B's framebuffer shadows have a couple of issues. EFB shadows are only cast by playable characters and by destroyed cars while they're physics-ing around. Because of this, a lot of models no longer cast shadows, such as all enemies and all non-destroyed cars (cars only cast EFB shadows once you start knocking them around. I have no idea why.)
EFB shadows don't cast on some objects (e.g. boxes) and some surfaces (too many scattered examples to remember).
Pulleys are now an ugly fullbright color and they no longer flash. (Who cares lol). This is caused by that same tinting issue I mentioned earlier; plenty of miscellaneous objects are affected too.
SA2 DC abused the Dreamcast's volumetric fog features for some interesting effects, like security alarms (Iron Gate, Flying Dog, Egg Quarters) and approximated "rain waves" (White Jungle). These effects are gone in SA2B, replaced with full-screen overlays (Flying Dog, Egg Quarters) or with a rotating vertex light (Iron Gate). It could be time constraints, or it could be that the GameCube doesn't have equivalent rendering features that would allow it to do striped fog.
Another transparency issue: Character's power-up items aren't affected by any transparencies in cutscenes lmao. Knuckles finding Sonic right after Sonic does Chaos Control is a great example.

There will be no sonic 4, odds are if they do another movie it will be those stupid fricking monster things that sega kept shilling and everyone hated. There is other big bads that are not eggman, granted not as iconic or anywhere near as based.
A few options:
1. Nothing; there is no fourth movie, and the movie series ends with Sonic 3. TV shows sprinkled here and there, but no movies for a long time.
2. Loose SA1 adaptation. Chaos is reworked to tie-in to Longclaw and the various "other worlds" hinted at in Sonic 2 and its comic while reincorporating his original lore with the Echidnas. This will be the most lore-heavy of the movies and introduce most if not the rest of the main cast (Amy, Rouge, etc.).
3. Shadow the Hedgehog; Black Arms are now an alien race that Longclaw once fought against and was originally hiding the Emeralds from. They come to Earth, the gang fight back, movie ends with Sonic deciding to return to his homeworld so that no more threats come to Earth
4. Something completely original. Evil Agent Stone, G.U.N. conspiracy, etc.
Since we are getting time travel this movie, they could also do a stinger with Silver and him saying that he found the source of the disturbance.

Apprehension is defiantly going to be the word for it. However, the bad parts of 06's story are all to do with Elise. Everything else is interesting. Melphise, Iblis and Solaris are all great. Just remove Iblis being sealed in Elise and having to get her to cry and the story becomes not a highly veiled attempt at giving Sonic his human girl friend, like was originally intended.
I'd be down for that. 06 gets way too much hate.
