Yet another bad sonic game. How fricking hard is it to make a decent game? I’ve heard this game is sonic 06 tier garbage

SEGA is the Waffle House of videogames
Wtf does that mean
Americans can only phrase analogies by referencing food, I dunno what else to tell ya bro
I'm sorry we all can't starve in some Venezuela shithole like you.
said the fatty who only thinks about food
You don't have to be starving to not be a lardass.
You don't go expecting good service, you go expecting a good time.
sonic is a waffle
A blue waffle, if you will?
They make waffles.
DO YOU LIKE WAFFLES ?
YEAH WE LIKE WAFFLES
do you like pancakes
It means it's a dingy dirty atmosphere with terrible customer service, leaving you with a bad feeling in your gut, and more likely than not, you'll end up seeing Black folk fight each other.
But Waffle House is actually good
Black people have brawls there?
replace black people with autistic morons and it's dead on accurate
Instead of savage black people fist fighting is unwashed white nerds proving to each other how unwashed their ass is and taking great pride in the smell
>Shadow
>Mephistopheles
Yes.
No drug test required to work for them?
Waffle House is dope all the employees are nice yet don’t care at the same time meaning it’s the perfect place to eat while stoned. They got good drinks too.
Actually I’m starting to get the comparison.
>all the employees are nice yet don’t care at the same time meaning it’s the perfect place to eat while stoned
This makes zero sense. Most everyone that works in any sort of restaurant is likely high as a kite as well. Also, why would you care if they know you're high? They merely exist to serve you food, not go tattle on you to the manager for.....having blood shot eyes and giggling too much?
Waffle House is trash food for broke college students and blacks. Then again, even in college, I only ate there a handful of times. There are much better options for late night food unless you live in the middle of nowhere.
It’s nowhere near that broken
The main thing I didn't like was the ending and the final boss was fricking stupid.
It's not 06 tier, nowhere near that. Pop in is bad, but other than that it's fine, I'd go so far as to call it good outside of the cyberspace levels (which are either boring or just suck), it's very fun to run around.
>it's very fun to run around
not with that 0 momentum shit it isn't
i cant believe these morons STILL cant make a sonic game
3d sonic isnt abut momentum. is about reaction times. The game youre looking for is mania.
You mean the boost games aren't about momentum. The Adventure games very much were.
>game is shitty because it's about being shitty
really, they could've given him some weight, at least made it so that sonic takes a second or so to get up to top speed and stop completely. having him turn and stop instantly like he does makes it feel like an unreal engine tutorial game.
You can literally change how Sonic moves in the options menu. I spent time tweaking him and he plays almost exactly like Adventure Sonic. Feels very good.
What settings are you using?
Sonic Big Rigs himself around.
One detail is I miss basic traps, like spike balls and moving platforms. You can rail uphill anywhere instead.
>I’ve heard this game
So you haven't even played it? Frick off.
I just started and it feels mediocre
>I’ve heard this game is sonic 06 tier garbage
I wouldn't say it's THAT bad, but definitely after 4 hours I feel like I've done everything the game has to offer from a gameplay perspective. The minigames/cyberspace levels are all hot garbage.
Sonicgays are the battered housewives of vidya.
theyre in good company these days with all these gachas, online matchmaking games and moba addicts
At least those games have a chance, however slim it is, to be good.
considering they generally feature microtransaction hell, chat censorship(when chat is even a thing), addiction mechanics and mild to severe levels of gambling i would have to disagree.
>I’ve heard this game is sonic 06 tier garbage
no way. It's above forces and 06 for sure. I'd place it somewhere between the quality of heroes and unleashed
>I'd place it somewhere between the quality of heroes and unleashed
Both of those games are awful
>absolute technical trainwreck, again (arguably even worse this time)
>modders have to fix the game, again
lmao
Sonic Generations from 2011. Wait for the next Steam sale.
It really is just SA1 remake.
You literally never liked Sonic then. It would just be nicer of you to make your own IP.
I never claimed to like sonic, i said from the beginning i don't like it but the time trial segments in frontier looked fun, for once focused entirely on speed and shaving off seconds through using interesting movement mechanics (not just glitchy speed run autism), for a second i thought maybe i missed something and the 3d sonic games were secretly pretty cool but i realise that its still the shitty platformer i though it was.
i don't know how i accepted this bullshit as a kid, but seeing this again still gives me a yearning feeling
A lot of these are because you're moving your analog stick away from his direction and it's causing him to steer off course.
>falling off pre-whale loops
gif discarded. "hold down" moron detected.
I already own it for some reason, probably some ancient humble bundle. Ill give it a try when my Steam Deck rma gets back, hopefully there's not too much slow ass exploratory platforming.
You'll definitely want to get the DX11 mod; it massively improves performance on the Deck.
https://gamebanana.com/mods/407367
Also consider the Unleashed Project which ports the daytime (regular Sonic) stages from Sonic Unleashed.
You could try Sonic Unleashed itself (emulating or otherwise the 360 version on a Series S/X) but it has a lot of baggage including GoW-brawler inspired night stages with slower more intricate platforming, and hubworlds with a heavy reliance on gated entries that required going through stages for collectables - Unleashed Project basically trims the fat.
It only affects your top running speed. Just go high speed style and change the options later if it's too fast for you. It doesn't effect cyberspace stages
looking at generations gameplay there's a shit tonne of 2d sonic which I hate. I think what I want out of the franchise only exists in tiny bursts, i essentially just want sonic to be a weird 3d time trial racing game with crazy movement mechanics but I think all of the games are just shitty platformers with a sprinkling of rollercoaster segments that sometimes get to what I'm after. Watching someone play through one of the time trial segments in frontier almost got me to buy the game but then i realised that was a 60 second segment and every other part of the game looked shit including other time trial segments which weren't as well crafted or more boomer 2d shit.
I hate that hitbox never made a 3d dustforce, 2d dustforce is just sonic but not shit.
Ah. I'd say try the Unleashed Project mod anyway since you have Gens already but it does occasionally shift to unavoidable 2D sections so.
Maybe Spark the Electric Jester 3?
Haven't played it but some anon keeps spamming webms of it in these threads.
OK, maybe I should actually give Spark 2 a go.
Ill check them out, they look closer to what im after.
>uses old video titles before the game was released
i'd join in on the shitting party but get some new material
I hope all tendie pedos die already
They want all non-Nintendo games to fail.
>reuse level design straight from older games in Cyberspace
>journalists are too moronic to notice and none of them bring it up and account it into the score
Whole image should be invalidated on this alone.
It's truly is one of the sonic games of all time. The best 3D sonic game since forces and it deserves a score out of 10
>worse than the tweet with all the mania scores
I haven't played a 3d sonic game in 15 years and I never liked 2d sonic but the time trial 3d levels where its like weird race or speed run platformer look fun, are there any 3d sonic games that are just that without the awful open world or shitty exploration stuff?
Sonic Generations is the best overall game for that. The daytime stages in Sonic Unleashed are arguably the pinnacle of that style of gameplay, but then you have to play the rest of Unleashed, so I'd recommend either downloading a 100% save so you can just play those levels, or there's mods to port most of them into Sonic Generations
Sonic Colors is also decent for speedrunning but getting S ranks requires farming for points with the shitty powerups which ruins it
It is not bad.
Frick off.
They can't keep getting away with it!!!
Where the frick are the enemies and obstacles in both?
In Generations, it's literally the second level, and just right at the very beginning of it, so of course it's light on both.
Sonic 2 on the Sega Genesis had more IN LEVEL ONE!
That webm isn't the whole level but OK champ
aiie aiiie aiiiiiie
Why would anyone program it so your perspective spins every time Sonic jumps? That's horrible. God forbid he does it for spindash too.
Hey editor. Add a bunch of wooshing sound effects.
I love sonic and frontiers is absolute trash. Overworld shit is mind numbingly boring, and the cyberspace stages are even worse somehow. Oh and there's a bunch of cyberspace levels, but ALL of them use one of 4 themes. I hope you like green hill
>I love sonic and frontiers is absolute trash
you cant say that. the sonic fandom is like a cult now.
What went wrong?
5 years & this is the best final boss they could come up with.
>he's in
>ikaruga for toddlers
here's the last level of ikaruga for comparison
>Game all about that gameplay has a harder boss than the Sonic game with it
Oh shit, really?
>Wants a genre swap moment to actually have difficulty
Never design a game
This is a big improvement on Sonic Team bosses post SA.
>games adds a e-girl
>final boss is you literaly impregnating her eggs
>this is your thought process
you are beyond the point of being a permavirgin dude, touch grass
Sage doesn't have grass.
>that pic
Post the part where she reveals her leaking diaper
dude
its a ball with a bunch of white things flying around
thats literaly the impregnation xray tag
what the frick i didn't get that part of the fight. the game directly sent me to the qte
I considered switching to normal mode during it just to get through it and then it gave me a warning saying it would skip the entire segment if I changed difficulty. So I assume it's only available in hard.
i played on normal, so i hope it's that and not a glitch
>final battle is only available in hard mode
B-based?
What disappointed me was that I thought we were trying to break into the moon, so I could get inside and fight the real boss. Just for the fricking moon to be the boss itself.
I wanted to fight the fricker in his true form. Come on.
>long monologue about how unlike all other villains, THE END is eternal even if you kill that stupid purple moon
>cliffhanger at the end with eggman and sage
See you in Sonic Frontiers 2 bros!
>Frontiers 2
God I fricking hope so.
so they copied Nier Automata?
The game started development right after Automata came out. What do you think?
>final boss is an ikaruga clone
what
'CAUSE WETHER I'M SHOUTING LOUD
I think I'm just going to pretend that sonic the hedgehog is actually just a band that releases an album every 5 years or so from now on
>the only character i actually liked commits suicide at the end
No she doesn't.
A better question is, why do fans INSIST this game is good? Why is it good by explaining the exact reasons it's better than anything else on the market?
Hard mode: no woke, pro east anti west, story based answers.
Because it HAS to be good so people stop HATING on Sonic!!!!
for all the hypegays, ive yet to see a single one of them actually praise the moment to moment gameplay. its all muh story, muh music, muh unintended glitchy movement.
>inb4 a sonicgay replies to this post
its too late, you gays have already revealed you dont care
>posting old pictures when the game was first shown
the absolute STATE of this MINDBROKEN doomcuck pfhahahahha
Boost have done more damage than 06 has in all of Sonic. These Black folk can't even appract the original Sonic just because they grew up on temple run, featuring Sonic skin.
I agree with you. These are the same people who claim that any amount of classic-inspired mechanics (or anything for that matter) in the modern games is done for non-fans or whatever, but also praise elements that are almost inherently anti-sonic like the binary gameplay of the boost games and the weird shit from the mid 2000's that is apparently the result of passion and ambition and not a cold corporate decision to pander to then-contemporary trends.
Shit sucks,
Action style is slow but easier to control. High speed is faster but more difficult to control, but not by much. If you've played literally any Sonic game then do High Speed. If not, then try out Action for a few minutes then switch to the other once you have a handle on the physics.
Should I play action or high speed style? Confused at what this effects
>looks bad
the game is good if you actually play it tho
sage sex
this is the most pathetic sonic game yet, it's trying way too hard to be botw to cling onto relevancy
Why is the Metacritic user score at 8.8? Is it Sonic fans coping?
>I've heard
So you didn't play it? Are you one of those types who hates journos except when they confirm your bias?
It's not bad but it's not good either. It's Black person haha got ya :3
Only the most moronic sonic fans actually think this is a great game
>Only the most moronic sonic fans
So all of them?
>final boss is a big black ball
they're not even trying anymore
I don't think I've played a sonic game since the Sega Genisis. I don't get the appeal.
You lost
>72
Was that supposed to be a gotcha?
You tell me
jesus what's with the wildly different scores for SA1? the ports couldn't have been that different. i had the 360 one and don't remember anything glaring about it
Yeah, mods are pretty much entirely necessary to make SA1 acceptable on PC (unless you just emulate it)
https://gamebanana.com/tools/6417
yeah whatever the steam version is using to emulate, it's just fine
the sonic adventure you can play now on pc is basically
>a port of the 360 version
>which was a port of the PC version
>which was a port of the gamecube version
>ignores the user score
Let me guess, you think snoy walking simulators are peak game design? I mean you’d have to if you agree with moronic “gaming journalists”.
I'M FLOWING WITH TIME
I'M FLOWING
I'M FLOWING INTO THE LIGHT
I ask the question once more, who is worse 343 or Sonic Team?
343 because Halo is fricking boring
>sonic team
>flip flops on games but nothing is outright a travesty to industry
>343
>owned by microsoft, one of the largest companies in the entire world
>fail to release your new game with features that other games in the series had at launch, essentially selling the game as early access and sucking people in with "F2P" multiplayer
Gamefreak
What kinda question
Sonic Team fricks up a ton but at least they CARE about Sonic and genuinely want to make a good game with him
343 turned Halo from a shining franchise into gutter fps trash in what? Little under a decade. Sonic can still make splashes here and there. Halo is just fricking dead
Kishimoto keeps wanting to ape Mario or Zelda.
No, they do not a shit about Sonic. Frontiers may as well have a different IP attached.
God I'm tired of you people in these threads
YOU DON'T PLAY SONIC
YOU'RE NOT GONNA PLAY FRONTIERS
YOU HATE THAT ITS DECENT
So why are you here?
You're getting spittle all over your keyboard, Billy.
You didn't answer the question
This is literally a "Sonic Frontiers criticism" thread. Why wouldn't he be here? Sonic Team either does not care about Sonic or they do care and they're the most incompetent developers ever.
>didn't post the template image
Wyd bro?
Gracias
I should start actually finishing them
why do these lists never include the advance and rush games
Why is there no "Played" checkmark? I've played CD, I didn't like it. Same goes for Chaotix.
>A-ranking Heroes
my sincere condolences
>Sonic Team fricks up a ton but at least they CARE about Sonic and genuinely want to make a good game with him
Oh really. Fricking prove it. Where's the great gameplay from 25 years ago?
What kinda autistic question
Mario Odyssey has different gameplay from any Mario game in the 90s is that to say they don't care? Back to your sonic forum
>Mario Odyssey has different
Wrong.
OK. Name the other Mario game where you possess enemies as the main mechanic.
>Mario Odyssey has different gameplay from any Mario game in the 90s
LIL
343 cares as much about Halo as Sonic Team for Sonic.
>We are committed to (Brand). We are big fans of (Brand) and want to bring it to the forefront of the industry.
>Proceed to release low effort garbage no matter how much dev time they were given
Sonic Team. It took fans to make the last good official Sonic game.
343 was led by a woman and ESLs for a decade and turned a multi million dollar franchise into dirt so them
343 has not managed to make one good Halo game for as long as they've had it. Sonic Team had least had a couple good to decent Sonic games better plummeting to the ground. 343 started at the ground and has yet go up a centimeter.
343, because Halo was actually good at one point.
Not a single anything-game 343 made was good. But at least one Sonic Team made game was good and that's Chu-Chu ROCKET!
Every person that gave low score to this game is either a classic gay or just someone that excepted the game would have a story that would be on the same level as adventure 1 and 2.
PCbros...
> Locked at 60fps
> No ultrawide support; requires hex editing
> Stutters in fullscreen mode; needs borderless window to work properly
> Vsync on on monitors that are gsync/freesync causes additional stutter (though why you'd have it on in the first place in that case is weird)
> Graphics Options: "High" and "Low"
> Random Crashes
> Steam Deck version tries to commit framerate seppuku at all times
Yikes..
Its a good game and your a troony homosexual.
Something that doesn't sit right with me is that they all mention past games, but Eggman's voice actor is different. It doesn't feel like he is the past Eggmans.
Frontiers will probably go down like heroes for me, does a few things right but overall boring and buggy but not a bad game. About a 6 or a 7 if I'm generous
pretty sure those comments in the picture are after seeing the first ign preview. if you check it out again it looks so fricking shit in comparison to the finished game. i think the preview has done more harm than good.
3D Sonic fans never had taste, of course they will pretend the new game isn't the same half-assed rushed garbage like every non-Mania Sonic since Adventure.
Watching their autistic hissy fits when you call them out is more entertaining than anything Sonic Team has done in 20 years.
It's not 06 tier.
It's in the okay-ish side of meh. Lost World tier if anything.
How long do you guys expect till the game gets cracked?
Just watch it [the cutscenes] in 4k on YouTube, I just did.
I guess Adventuregays really did never care about gameplay.
i am an adventuregay probably the biggest one you'll find and i fricking hated this game, i don't know who the people are who are enjoying it
Maybe it isn't true Adventuregays, moreso the Black Knightgays aping off of Adventuregays to justify their crazed autism for Black Knight era Sonic.
Sonic Frontiers Map design in one image. Why aren't the rails and platforms themed to their biome?
Frick off Skill Up, you're a homosexual.
>proceeds to boogeyman with no justification for Sega's shit design
Keep eating up shit
I loved the game, but the only criticism I had was the 2.5D stages and the true final boss
Wasn't this made with unity assets or some shit?
I just know that it's pretty janky, but the concept is solid.
>Some folks itt unironically *defending* Sonic Frontiers, a doghsit Sonic game made by those homosexuals and morons who pander to morons, homosexuals and pedogays within the pedohomosexual moronic Sonic "fandom"
you forgot to say "troony" at least 3 times
Redo your post
Too lazy, but since you brought it up:
The Sonicgays are all morons, troons and slack-jawed homosexuals
I've played Sonic games for a good chunk of my life and all I see is a tech demo with half-assed animated "cutscenes", a poorly thought out capeshit-tier story and an open world that consists of grassland, desert and volcanic island, with the last two "Islands" just being parts of the first Island.
The puzzles are just randomly dotted around and you do the same activity cycle for 20+ hours to progress the "game".
This is just a glorified tech demo, a skeleton of a game. Maybe someday Sega could do something with it, but this is literally just barebones in every respect. I feel like I'm in a nuthouse when I see these fake-ass threads that praise it.
>you do the same activity cycle for 20+ hours
The game is like 10 hours long lmao.
Some people took 20 hours to finish the game and yes, I know, it's a very short game considering this is supposed to be an Openworld game.
>and all I see
So you haven't played it? Not reading your essay then
>I've played Sonic games for a good chunk of my life and all I see is a tech demo with half-assed animated "cutscenes", a poorly thought out capeshit-tier story and an open world that consists of grassland, desert and volcanic island, with the last two "Islands" just being parts of the first Island.
>
>The puzzles are just randomly dotted around and you do the same activity cycle for 20+ hours to progress the "game".
you just described modern open world game there.
I feel that pain, man. I saw a lot of it myself and believe me, I've been absolutely just shitting on the game nonstop ever since the IGN debacle of months ago. It absolutely is just a dumpsterfire tech demo and no amount of seething and coping from the other people that aren't you and I will convince me it's anything else and lie through their teeth about it.
I've basically long-abandoned any hope of Sega or SonicTeam and the fandom ever recovering, especially after I got aggressively attacked and harassed online by some Manson-esque frickwit back in about 2016/2017 just for daring to step out of line and liking other series. After that, I was just like "Frick being nice to these nutcase morons, I'm goin' scorched earth on these homosexuals!".
wew lads
>He believes these morons and homosexuals who shill for Sega/SonicTeam
Holy Christ on a bicycle, how moronic are you?
Based. Most based post on this site.
People that treat faceless companies because of their IPs like religion all need to be killed in cold blood. These creatures are just plaguing society into damnation.
fake ass threads is a good way to put it. the "hype" is so forced and artificial you can see right through it.
Hey it's me again, pretending to be someone else. And I just want to verbally upvote this absolute good post not made by me.
I'm enjoying it, but I do have some gripes (Playing on Series X)
>Animations range from really nice to the characters just standing there
>The second island is worse than the first
>The Cyber Space levels are either segments from Generations or inspired by other Sonic levels, somewhat wish for NEW content but after Forces this might be the best of both worlds ST can do
But it's fun!! I'm honestly glad there's a good Sonic game out after Forces was such a crushing disappointment
test
"Open zone" is moronic. While it isn't a linear hallway I feel like a majority of gimmicks just do the work for you. Rail grinding and homing attacks which make up a huge percent of the gameplay are boring and highly automated. The puzzles are a snoozefest but the other minigames can be nice. I can see people having fun fricking around the islands with sonic's abilities.
Cyberspace is just slight rehashes off generations' and unleashes' levels, but for bonus stages theyre good
Even if it may suck compared to games like Yakuza and MG, I think the best part (aside from the music) is the combat and boss fights. Cool QTEs and moves that suit sonic's speed and chaos abilities, and its better than the usual "hit the guy in the head 3 times"
If I wasn't a sonictard I'd rate it 6/10 but since I am 7.5/10
torrent?
>bottom right corner
literally what i been saying this whole time. nothing in the game matches the sonic aesthetic or has any soul put into it whatsoever.
Wow you share an opinion with a games journalist. That's incredible.
This new generation of people deserve what is coming to them for being so willfully ignorant.
unoriginal, soulless, and for man children
Heh. Too easy.
All those reviews were paid.
how so?
Copium
It's at 94% now.
This game is amazing, just for the sheer amount of seethe it generates off of Ganker. It is currently competing with TLOU2, you could just post Sonic's face and be done with it.
Everyone will forget It in a month or two
It's just BotW lesser brother
Sonic reviews are never paid you fricking mong. If you wanna see paid reviews in action, go look at Dad of Boy Ragnarok.
>All those paid review
>Believing in that level of moronic cringe
Holy shit, I knew you Sonicgays were moronic, cringe, mentally stunted and spineless homosexuals, but hoooooooly frickin' shit, you frickin' outshined every other moronic homosexual of your type.
>92% positive on steam
NOOOOO, EVERYONE WHO DISAGREE WITH MY OPINION IS A SHILL.
have a nice day
You first for being a moronic bootlicking Sonicgay NPC, c**t.
>the splatoon trannie is still seething about sonic
We won.
Worse fanbase possible.
Didn't Zeldagays harass professional game reviewers over Twilight Princess and BoTW?
Did you forget Sonicgays did the same thing over Unleashed?
That was justified, Unleashed was given scores that should only be given to broken and unfinished games. If Unleashed was reviewed differently, the Meta Era would have never happened. Actually, now that I think about it, Frick those review Black folk they gave us the Meta Era and trashed a legitimately good game.
Unleashed is not that good bro. And no, Sonic Team gave us the meta era. Don't take responsibility off of them.
>If Unleashed was reviewed differently, the Meta Era would have never happened.
Shut the frick up about le meta shit
Sonic isn't for adults. He was just fitting in with the demographic of the time. Fortnite? Minecraft? Zanny silly games on mobile? That was what people were like in the 2010s, you were suppose to move on not still be crying to this day.
Sonic is supposed to be shonen, not baby shit.
>Sonic is supposed to be
Shut the frick up stupid Black person. Sonic is a brand, and always panders to what people actually want. If people want memes? Go memes. If people like anime? Go anime. If people like capeshit? You get the gist.
Sonic was never one thing. The only thing he suppose to be is a good game with good gameplay. Nothing else matters.
>not baby shit
>Frontiers is braindead and automated to all hell
What did he mean by this?
He's a fricking blue hedgehog. Designed to attract kids away from Mario. Fricking hell.
>He's a
Didn't read the rest, homosexual.
I collect concessions like Sonic collects rings, autist.
You just proved anon's point. Sonic autists are genuinely mentally ill.
rockstar fanbase
from software fanbase
nuaghty dog fanbase
>rockstar fanbase
Why, racism?
>from software fanbase
Why, seething over thinking it's overrated?
>nuaghty dog fanbase
Why? Their games are actually good though.
Pokemon
It's not nearly that bad. One of the better recent sonic games, not that it has much competition.
I think people are just too used to acting like Sonic games are the worst things ever so when a decent one comes out people shit their pants and act as if it didn't do anything different from absolute trash like boom or forces.
NEW SONIC DARK AGE!
NEW SONIC DARK AGE!
nah, we were fricking idiots for thinking the dark age ever ended just because we got colors and generations
You better put some respect on Unleashed's name
For what? Like 20% of the game being actually fun to play? There's no saving the absolute shitshow that was the werehog stages. They deserve all the flak they get. I went back to Unleashed recently to see if maybe I was wrong since it had been a while, but no, those levels are genuinely awful and where you'll ultimately spend the most time.
this game is the most mediocre sonic game ever released, but it gets praise because it came after lost world, boom, and forces
the cyberspace levels are just as bad as sonic forces, when they arent just rehashes of sa2 or generations. Even when they are rehashes, its just inferior controls and physics
SO WHAT IS THE FRICKING POINT OF REUSING LEVEL DESIGN IF ITS NOT AS FUN
I didn't play Lost World, Boom, or Forces. The last 3D Sonic I played was Generations, and I played it recently too. Sonic Frontiers is fun as frick, even if it's a bit repetitive. Best in shorter bursts I find.
> these could've been Chaos
I don't like their looks or the noises they make. They tried too hard to make something cute. Might have a change in heart when the game starts dropping their lore, but yeah nah they do nothing for me.
I want to RAVAGE the middle one so bad look at that mouth
They are.
Good game so far, but its way too easy. For one, parrying isn't even parrying, its a deflect button. You hold the buttons and it just works. Why on gods earth is there a 30 second "challenge" to deflect a projectile when it shoots at you in 2 seconds? I get this is an all ages game, but why are they treating us like moronic babies?
I'm having a fricking blast. Yeah it's low budget and janky, but so are most sonic games. But it's fricking fun
Honestly if the movement, controls and camera wasn't so glitchy and the pop-in was fixed it looks like it could have been a comfy game
This game proves that you can slap open world to literally anything and you can get guaranteed 8/10 from normies.
moron
Prove me wrong
The open world isn't the reason why people are enjoying Frontiers lol. It's the movement, boss fights, music and overall tone/presentation. It's feels like a fun, budget janky sonic game from 7th gen. It's got that sor of SA1/SA2 appeal to a lot of people that has been missing in 3D Sonic for over a decade
>The open world isn't the reason why people are enjoying Frontiers lol. It's the movement
LOL
I think you might be the moron here.
Name one instance where you intentionally stop in front of a slope and try to slowly walk up it during normal gameplay
If you can't see what's wrong here, then you're clinically moronic.
I like Sonic but this is just embarassing and you are moronic for not understanding whats wrong with it
Don't know but that shit didn't fly on Sega Genesis in 1996
When I want to play the game?
oh no you posted a physics bug in a 3d sonic game you sure got me buddy
>a physics bug
lmao is this how you cope with the game being a jank piece of shit with worse physics than a 1991 platformer?
are you moronic? it's like people who post that gif of sonic falling through the loop in Adventure to call the game shit. Totally not getting it at all
See
You make it out as if having bad physics quirks is new to 3D sonic, or that the people who like the game aren't aware of it lol. People like the game in spite of shit like that, because when it's working (which is most of the time) it feels really good to play. That was the case for SA1, SA2, and now frontiers. You people who call something complete garbage just because it's flawed, like there's no fricking middle ground, are all morons who miss the forest for the trees
If you can't see why early 3D sonic fans are seemingly enjoying Frontiers, then I'm assuming you've just never played the series. Frick you
I can spindash and jump off a ramp while keeping momentum in SA.
Can you do the same in Frontiers?
Yes, but it's boost instead of spindash. I've gotten insane air dashing into shit and jumping. There's also momentum with moving platforms that lets you do really dumb shit too
>Sonic game
>Can't even spindash
>Can't even keep momentum outside of rails
You're the worst shill I've ever encountered, have a last pity (You)
lol moron
meant for
We're not talking about "quirks", we're talking about Sonic slowly walking up a 90 degree wall in a series that at its core is about momentum based platforming.
yeah that's never ever happened in a 3d sonic game before lol
>It happened in older games which makes it okay
Why are you bending over backwards trying to defend this shit instead of wanting Sonic Team to do better?
>using 06 to defend Frontiers
YOU CANT MAKE THIS SHIT UP
That's Adventure 1
That's DX
Adventure DX Director's Cut
>le quirks
No, they're just badly made. Always have been.
But it fits sonic like a glove. This is the direction 3d Sonic should have taken decades ago, but they chose only to have the hubs.
>movement
Jank and weightless. Sonic is quite literally glued to the floor to the extent that he'll awkward walk over rough terrain with no change to his animation to accentuate this. Once you get on rails you are pretty much automated the whole way thru. That's not ignoring the absurd launches from tiny slopes and the stiff animation. Let's not even get to how that fricked Cybers.
>boss fights
Most braindead content in the game. The fact that there isn't a benefit to fighting overall shows how the combat was nothing more than a forced aspect that they had for the Open World meme. Bosses have no weight to their attack and the fact that you can just parry with no thought at all really puts little stakes into the Super Sonic fights.
>music
Not Marble Zone/10
>overall tone/presentation
Unity Assets littered over a basic map with no attempt at making platforms/obstacles and rails fit their individual biome is good presentation? The conflicting color palettes of Cybers vs the drab open world? Jesus you must accept anything in front of you.
moron
>Unity Assets
It's not Unity assets.
...It's NGS assets.
ever since I saw that one homosexual who made two videos shitting on NGS bring up the fact that Frontiers looks like a reskin of one of the classes using a sonic model I can't unsee that it's so fricking bad
I think both games are good and fun 🙂
Why did cyber space have a recreation of Sky Rails if Sonic never went to sky rails.
It's a Sonic level.
I bet the real reason they picked Sky Rail was because it was the shortest speed stage in SA2.
What do you mean? Sky Rail is for Sonic.
Sky Rail is a Sonic level that got converted into a Shadow one. It might be a tease about that too
how do you do the drop dash? I accidentally do it some times, but I couldn't figure out the input. It felt random when sonic would do it when holding the jump button.
Press and hold jump after double jumping
I've tried that, it doesn't consistently come out.
Why couldn't they make it so you press jump twice to double jump and press jump once then hold it to drop dash
oh wait
you have to hit the jump button a 3rd time?
that explains why it's fricking weird.
that's bait
that's a self reply
It's fun but they need to realize that a story taking itself seriously doesn't automatically make it good. SA2 is beloved because of the crazy action movie shit and corny insults/exchanges along with the sorrow and darkness towards the end.
I'M HANGING ON TO THE OTHER SIDE
14 hours in and starting on the Third Island.
Honestly, I'm liking it a lot. I think the biggest issue (aside from questionable jank like the single level ups for speed which take forever) is that they went TOO hard on the "you don't have to collect everything" angle.
Like, that's great for the Koco, seeds, and purple coins. But honestly I wish they made the Memory Cores rare and individual. I really enjoy gathering the ones marked on the map one by one after I fill the map out but I'd enjoy it more if there was meaning to them rather than being a handful on top of the hundreds I've already gotten from enemies or those blue markers.
Feels like they really wanted to make the game SUPER forgiving which kinda cheapens some aspects.
Still super fun to break their structure flow. Getting a core that's really high up then landing to get another core that is below it without even knowing where that one was supposed to start from is always enjoyable.
Also, the cyberspace levels are a perfect length for being a good breather from the open world stuff. I think the game's got a great flow balance outside of the way the rewards get kinda cheapened the more you explore.
Also, holy frick I'm a sucker for those Super Sonic fights. Wyvern was just the right amount of cheese.
how long did it take you to realize you had to parry the wyvern, I kept trying to dodge the attacks until I went from 400 rings to 200 rings
I didn't even bother trying to dodge attacks after that shit straight up didn't work at all against Giganto. Parry was simply my default mentality after that fight.
I didn't even know parry was a thing at that point.
First I tried to just move out of the way.
Then I learned you had a dodge button.
Then I mashed dodge and accidentally parried it and realized what I had to do.
I might be moronic
>I think with Wyvern they even outright said to get close then parry in the starting text.
Okay yeah I'm moronic I didn't see that.
The ending of the wyvern fight was very good. I just got to the 3rd island too. I'm doing an island a day.
I'm also just doing all the cyberspace/exploration/chaos emerald hunting before even starting the story segment so I just get like an hour of straight of just running into cutscene after cutscene every island.
It's understandable. There isn't really anything on the first island that needs you to parry. In fact, a regular enemy that mandated parrying didn't even exist until the third island.
Oh I knew from the start, I was already parrying with Giganto. They made it pretty clear that was the only way to stop big attacks like that. I think with Wyvern they even outright said to get close then parry in the starting text.
Yeah, Giganto was alright but Wyvern just got me super excited for the rest of them.
When it fricking warped up in the air and came down like a meteor only for a QTE to stop it and the rotation of it by hand was a perfect bit of childlike excitement.
I'm usually not a stickler when it comes to soundtrack spoilers but I deliberately avoided any music leaks over the past week or two. Every fricking titan fight has been a treat. Every fricking titan fight makes me feel like a kid again.
I like the cyberspace stages but it feels like each world would have benefitted from one bigger level with some actual context to it, like the ones in SA1 that are meant to be connected to the adventure fields.
I have a complaint. If the cyber space levels are based on Sonic's memories, then how the frick does he know anything about Sky Rail?
uhhh 2 player mode is canon
It might be a deeper cut since Sky Rail was originally a Sonic level during the development of SA2.
Who's to say he didn't visit it later on
>Ouranos Island is Kronos 2
>Supreme has no actual build up and lacks an introductory sequence like Giganto stomping Sonic/Sonic running from Wyvern and Knight
>The End feels shoehorned despite being there since the beginning
Supreme having no build up lines up well with Sonic thinking there's only 3 titans though.
I meant the short sequences that happened once Sonic met the Titans. I think what should've happened after the voice revealed itself to be evil is a sequence where Sonic runs away from Supreme's rifle blasts.
The game is good at making a first impression. First island is pretty big and fun around to roam in. Many little dopamine rewards. Getting to do a Super Sonic segment was pretty awesome (presentation-wise) even if it is kinda janky to play. Same case for the 2nd island.
Then it starts to fall apart on the 3rd island. 90% of it forces the camera into 2D mode, which is obviously a crutch they've been using since unleashed to save development time and money. And then the 4th island isn't even a fricking island like the others. It's literally just a few tower mini challenges you finish in 30min, no super sonic part either. And the 5th island you immediately see they couldn't even be arsed to give Sage her own little tokens. The super sonic part is practically the same as the first titan and not even as cool. It's the worst titan out of the 4.
And then the final boss being some shitty shootemup? And not even a good one. It's like they were trying to copy nier automata but at least in that game you spend like half the time in that mode. Here it was clearly used to save on budget.
Conclusion: They put most of their budget at the start of the game to trick reviewers and fans into thinking sonic finally got a good game after so long.
>And then the final boss being some shitty shootemup?
What I don't get is that Sonic Rush actually did that format in a way for its true final boss and it worked out really well. Only you were actually playing as super sonic and not a spaceship thing
>obviously a crutch
It's not a crutch, it's a deliberate gameplay style. It causes Adventure babbies to seethe endlessly anytime it's ever used. Them focusing on that gameplay style for one whole island is very clearly deliberate. People act like it's a dev time issue when it takes more effort to design decent 2D segments than it does mindless 3D environments to just blast through.
>90% of it forces the camera into 2D mode
Why did they do this? It's extremely infuriating to clearly see things in the background that you suddenly can't just go towards, what's the point of adding forced 2D into open world obstacle courses?
I love the game but god damn, the third island was awful. I hope there's some DLC.
$60 is not that much to lose but man does it feel shitty getting duped.
>start of the game to trick reviewers and fans into thinking sonic finally got a good game after so long
You must have low fricking standards if the start seems like a good game
>The game is good at making a first impression.
But the first hour sucks the most.
what was the last game with good 3D level design? There was nothing after Mario Oddysey
Does Kirby and the Forgotten Land count? The levels were still pretty linear in the long run, but I really loved the theming and tons of little details. If not that, then I'd say Bowser's Fury.
>Kirby and the Forgotten Land
kirby always has meh level design, havent looked at this yet
Holy shit, the movement controls and animations are stiffer than Sonic Forces. I'm comparing how the emulator plays and seeing other people's gameplay videos, and even with the lazy control adjustments Sonic Team put in the game menus it is still janky to play. How do you frick up THIS badly?
Its amazing how the consensus keeps changing based on what gaming personalities say, if critikal posts an 80% moistmeter people will suddenly act as if they were fans of the game from the start, its pathetic.
Do you guys think CWC would've liked Frontiers?
I've been enjoying the game so far, with the exception of the Cyberspace levels. Sonic controls so fricking bad, it makes me wonder how we got from Unleashed to here.
For starters, Sonic turns like a tank. It feels like every time I come up to any sort of slightly tight turn I end up running into the wall.
Another thing is Sonic loosing all speed as soon as he jumps. Just.. why? It feels so bad. It wouldn't be so awful if you could continuously boost in the air like in Forces. But they removed that and drifting as well. Frick man.
You can change his turning speed in the settings.
You can change a bunch of stuff around his movement there.
The only cyberspace stages I loathe are the 2D ones. Modern Sonic team has shown over and over that they can't do 2D any justice what so ever.
The Sky Rails one was cool as frick.
Those settings don't matter in Cyberspace.
If they designed the game properly you wouldn’t be able to modify sonics turning speed anywhere
Is the Japanese script different from the English one? I could tell the JP dialogue doesn't match the subtitles
that's always the case with localizations
English:
>"All we did was chase it out of its shell. It's retreating into space to regain its true form. Even Super Sonic won't be able to stop it. I know what I must do. I must... leave you."
Japanese:
"Upon the moon's underside, another moon will appear. All we can do is have it sealed within the Titan, as was done in the previous battle. I can do it... No, I must do it."
This goes beyond localization. It conveys completely different information
Yep. English is the original in this case though (Sonic Team came up with the outline, Ian Flynn wrote the scenes and dialogue). Japanese script was localised and largely rewritten by the game's director to make it more palatable for a Japanese audience.
Doesn't stop the English VO from sucking, what the actual frick happened to the voice direction this time???
English has more jokes, Japanese has more plot details in place of the jokes
what plot details?
The script was written in English based on SEGA's story beats and translated for Japanese. Curiously, a lot of Jap players prefer the Eng version.
Interesting. Never would have guessed Japanese players would prefer the English version. The translation is that bad?
If you want to check how bad it gets, one anon pointed out some key differences over at /vg/:
tl;dr the japanese script is a mess
Good to know even the japs have to suffer from shitty localizations as well.
>>"be careful, dear daughter"
>became
>>Sage is my greatest creation. I don't need to worry.
>
>>"that's my girl"
>became
>>Good girl.
What the frick
Frontiers feels like Dynasty Warriors 9 to me, both are games that should totally work in an open-world format but the execution is so bad it turns people off from the whole concept.
My only criticism is the lack of Sage porn. She looks like 2B's little sister to me and that is an itch I'm dying to scratch.
>get shat on for trusting reviewer scores more than user scores in Rotten Tomatoes
>anons here agree with Frontiers journalist Metacritic score more than Steam/Metacritic user scores
I'm glad I found people here to fit in with
This game is like fallout 76, just an awful mess of bad mechanics and technical issues, reviewers had paid trips to "ease" them into the game, but even fallout fans, literal drooling morons, had the gulls to admit when they're franchise failed them, Sonic fans have the be the genuine biggest mouth breathing desperate morons ive seen in the gaming industry to defend their wallet being stolen from with such a shoddy terribly thrown in tech demo of an awful fricking experience, go frick yourselves, hope you keep getting scammed.
The cyberstages just aren't fun and feel like Sonic Team couldn't figure out anything better than recycling the same concepts from Generations/Forces. They're also as short as the levels from Forces which is a legitimate problem.
So is this game the final nail in Sonamy's coffin?
Amy clearly isn't into Sonic anymore, it's painfully blatant in this game.
No idea if this is Ian's fault or not but I hate how they recontextualized Adventure's plot as "lol Aliens"
They've done it since Shadow actually
Although, the ancients were done way better than the black arms in terms of story integration
PS5 or PC?
>sega has no money to make a decent sonic game but they have enough money to put denuvo in it
LMAO
I've been having fun with it. Cyberspace is ass and the pop in are issues, but the open world gameplay is solid.
My only criticizm is how the hell do i get up here?
like this, obviously
Finally, halfway though the game, and a decent fricking level. My time on it's 1:21. I assume this is supposed to be the Sky Rail rip-off despite looking like Green Hill zone for the hundredth time.
I think it is Sky Rail
2-6? That's my favorite level in the game. So many different shortcuts.
I had the same exact impression, every single level was underwhelming with the exception of that one
>Has no name
>Has no unique aesthetics
>Has no special gimmicks
>Just is a good level, refuses to elaborate
The level design is pretty good, you can do nice skips by air boosting and there are nice homing attack chains on the last rails section that serve as shortcuts if you react fast enough.
It still has the shoddy controls, gimped boost, easy red rings and baby s ranks that every single cyberspace level suffers from, but it's not that bad, I feel like it fits this game's gameplay a lot better than most of the stages they reused.
Bros... I'm losing interest in the 3rd island. There's way too much 2D.
>Today Sonic ripped off BOTW and Evangelion
What a odd combo
>frontiers makes constant calls backs to past games
>even the genesis era games
Have they finally done away with that modern world/classic world bullshit?
They actually did recently retcon Forces by saying it's the same world and Classic is the same Sonic as Modern just in the past.
The "from another dimension!" was stupid as shit in the first place
Source? Either way oh thank God. I don’t know why they felt the need to do that shit in the first place. Only made things needlessly complicated. Hope this mean Might, Ray, Fang, Bean, and Bark are no longer trapped in classic hell.
3:30
Thank god. Fragmenting the timeline and available characters was a profoundly stupid idea. Why would you limit shit like that? Make it so some characters can only appear during classic or modern era games?
Branding. They license Classic Sonic out as a different brand than Sonic.
It's the same goddamn brand. If they want to make a keychain or some fricking thing with Classic Sonic. Just do it.
The idea is you get double money by forcing companies to license Sonic twice.
It appears that way. If Frontiers sets a precedent for open-world Sonic games, it makes sense they approach everything as a seamless adventure. Imagine being able to revisit Station Square or Angel Island in the future.
That Knuckles flashback was fricking weird.
I’ve actually been having a lot of fun with the game. At the third island and have yet to get bored of the open zones; something about it just clicks for me.
I can understand not liking the game very much, or being disappointed, but I don’t really understand the claims that the game is irredeemable garbage.
Just like with Forces in a year people will be saying Frontiers is the worst Sonic game ever.
>Just like with Forces in a year
Dude people saw forces was a mess even before the official release with that script leak. When it came out it somehow was even worse than expected.
Most everyone knew Forces would be a lazy asset flip the minute Classic Sonic appeared. Sure Frontiers has cyberspace but it still manages to be its own thing.
And then the fact the shadow DLC was largely pointless aside from the great remixes of Westopolis/Radical Highway, White Jungle, and Biolizard.
>Forces would be a lazy asset flip
No one thought this. In fact, Forces is more original than Frontiers. Frick, I'd rather play Forces right now instead of Frontiers simply because its nicer to look at.
>Forces is more original than Frontiers
Try harder
YEAH BRO FORCES DOESN'T DO LAZY ASSET FLIPS
I mean just ignore Sand Hill
And Chemical Plant
And Death Egg
T-THEN WE FULLY ORIGINAL HEH
even though those stages take up majority of the game
>it took him a year to realize a 3 hour game was shit
>Sage managed to succeed as a likeable main human* character while Elise crashed and burned. Figuratively and literally
Helps that Sonic at no point kisses her on the mouth. I bet Sonic Team wouldn't see anything wrong with that.
To be fair Elise is the one who instigated the kiss on his lifeless corpse.
I would like the game if most of the platforming wasn't completely automatic, homing attack chains and grinding can only take you so far , the little puzzles you can find aren't very fun either

a Message to the Blue Rodent from Eggman:
This unlocked a memory in my head. I don’t know where it’s from but I recognize it…
>Sega thought Mania would legit tarnish Sonic's rep so they tried to say Classic Sonic was from another dimension in case Mania failed
>not only did Mania MOG the fricking SHIT out of any Sonic game in the past 20 years, Forces ended up being the most garbage 3D Sonic game since 06
The absolute irony
