No, scarlet and violet was shit because 60% of the characters looked fricking hideous (thanks ESG). Nemona's skin wasn't even that dark, and a lot of real life Spaniards are swarthier than she is. She was the least of the game's problems.
>This man tells you trannies are dangerous for wanting to frick kids (won't provide any proof about it, though), while actually being obsessed about raping children.
Get help.
Yeah I caught that too. They are also using a very similar color palette to Sonic mania. This definitely feels like a throwback game and I'm very okay with that
I mentioned ristar hours ago
the yoyo mechanic really does remind me of ristar
ristar was one of my favorite games as a kid so I'm really looking forward to this game
Yeah same. I think it's incredibly overlooked, especially in a world that (Maybe up until Mania at least) is mostly void of physics-oriented platformers, and ESPECIALLY since it has so much replay value. Not as much as a Sonic game, but still.
Seriously if anyone ITT enjoys 2D sonic, go play yourself some Ristar. It's good for you.
Honestly the only thing I thought when I saw this was. >Sonic Mania devs think that Sonic can work in 3d, but with the 2d formula, however Sonic Team wouldn't let them try it and this is why they got kicked to the curb
Yeah, it feels like they’re about to prove they can do 3D Sonic better than Sonic Team too. And im pretty sure there was something about a scrapped 3D Sonic back in the day that looked like classic Sonic levels just extruded into the z-axis… The worlds in this look like that was part inspiration.
>Whitehead's team remakes Sonic 1, CD and 2, all of which are successful >Whitehead's team makes Mania, which is so successful that Sonic Team officially branches Classic Sonic out in to its own universe with its own cast of characters (Although Stealth drags Sega through the mud because of Denuvo) >Instead of following up with the logical sequel, Whitehead's team just...leaves >And then Origins comes out and Stealth drags Sega through the mud again because of how badly Sega fricked them over
The only real options here are:
1. Sega fricked up real bad (Which is backed up by the Origins fiasco)
2. Whitehead wanted to do his own thing (Possible, but less likely given he's a diehard Sonic fan)
3. Intentional self sabotage
>2. Whitehead wanted to do his own thing (Possible, but less likely given he's a diehard Sonic fan)
Even as a fan I doubt he'd want his entire career to be the guy who momentarily unfricked Sonic. He seems honest enough, even when it might not be the smartest move, that if there was any bad blood he'd just talk about it.
Anon you have to understand that artist crave doing their own thing, no matter how much they might admire something else.
Sometimes you just want to do what you want to do
I don't like the design of the MC tbh but holy shit Sega must be shitting themselves since they now got BTFO both in 2d and now 3d by the same fricking devs.
Seriously this looks miles better than anything Sonic Team has put out in the last decade it's insane.
Yeah, ever since that awful looking new sonic game was announced a few weeks ago I've been wondering what the Mania guys were working on. Glad to see it's something awesome
I doubt it. Sonics primary audience is children and children still love Sonic. At this point as long as they time things right they're fine no matter how much is mediocre
We are on the blessed timeline where we get a new IP instead. Why can't more companies do that? Give us a new IP. The golden age of gaming wasn't defined by sequels and remakes.
I like Tails. He's cute. I'm sad there are no good games being made for him to be in.
>Sonic gets a soulful new game. >Mario gets a soulful new game. >Mania Team makes a soulful new IP. >Genobros and Daisybros are happy.
God mother fricking damn platformergays are gonna be feasting.
gets a soulful new game.
mandate is still in effect so don't hold your breath
gets a soulful new game.
Looks a bit too much like the soulless NSMB Wii for comfort.
No, let them do their own stuff anon, I'd rather see SEGA having balls, sticking to the Frointers formula and improving it for the next game, whenever that happens.
The art style was what caught my attention, but then I noticed that the character looked familiar until I realized that this was the game Evening Star was working on (before their names had even come up)
Looks neat. Definitely going to keep an eye out for it. Not entirely sold on the MC's design but the penguins are cute and the yo-yo seems like it'll be a fun mechanic.
THIS
is a fricking video game. why the FRICK can't we go back to this? thank fricking god for indies and to an extent, Nintendo - the only people who are making games and not half a billion dollar movie slop which is devoid of actual gameplay. I don't understand the need for these bigass quadrillion dollar budget games. normies ruined gaming
i tried drawing her a little but not a fan of her design, it has some nice things going on but it's too busy to draw
making your protag hard to scribble is not very fun
Your drawing skills are decent but I feel like you should embrace her exaggerated design more. smaller pupils and skinny limbs. Poofy handcuffs and wide mouth. Thanks for the art anyways drawgay.
They likely didn't want the Sonic autism to distract from the great gameplay. It's likely in the sequel they're going to slim her down to make her more "fapable".
I can already see this is how you'll be spending the next few weeks. Rattling in your cage whenever people joke about a new 2D Mario at the same time a new 2D Sonic was announced and now with the Mania team doing their own thing.
>sell
Moderngay cope. ALL NIntendo games sold more than Frontiers did in just the first 3 days, Modern shitnik never sold anything so it's not an argument. Meanwhile ALL classic styled games, Sonic or otherwise, has better ratings than 99% of Modern Shitnik games combined.
>This garbage wishes it could sell half as much as Frontiers.
Mario and Sonic sold more than Frontiers. Team Sonic Racing sold more than Frontiers. A fricking 2D game sold more than Frontiers. Nobody gives a shit about Sonic Team's games anymore, their most recently announced game looks OK and that's being developed by some other studio. It's over.
>implying NSMB Rehash #12 looks even remotely fun, let alone better than a Retro Engine Sonic game
The game being on Retro Engine doesn't mean shit if the level design is still bad, and modern Sonic Team and Arzest aren't exactly known for quality here.
>Frontiers sell many copies and has positive reception >New Classic-style game that looks good and has new zones >BTFO
When will it start to catch on that the actual autists are weirdos like you?
Frontiers positive reception is actually one of the biggest downfalls of the game. It proves the fanbase actually doesn't have any bit of standards anymore, even pokemon scarlet and violet were not acceptable by a majority of fans despite the game having some good to it.
I think it looks good but I agree. It's one of those designs that it'll take a while to get used to. Character design seems like a constant thorn when it comes to games made by blatant fans. Either they try to be too much like the game that they're ripping off or they just jumble a bunch of influences together to make something weird looking.
You remember how for years people complained about gruff bald white man as the default character for most games. Well, developers read that and tried to go in the opposite direction. What's funny is that this kneejerk reaction to bald white man has inspired people to just make vaguely brown women in games to much dismay they dont look good, either.

I don't mind the original but yours is sleeker, more sensible and more legible.
This always comes up, despite me never having played Parappa. It's cool tho, familiarity in small capacity makes it easier for people to latch on to your shit
Large part of why I feel modern 3D indie platformers don't stick (ie turn into franchises, get sequels) is because the character designs/ world building are awful. I look at their game and I think it plays so cool, but I would never invest in that protagonist they just don't have "it". I wish it were different
Its more that they just don't make sequels. A Hat in Time could've easily gotten a new game with all the success the first game got and how much support the devs gave it post launch.
And I think that's weird, why wouldn't they make a sequel? I don't even like Ahit but I would love to see a new franchise thrive, I think its just weird they don't have that commitment.
I do think that's part of it but more so the fact that it's just not as easy to kickstart a franchise like it was in the 90's. Can't just knock out a sequel in under a year alongside two spinoffs and an anime and an OVA and a comic. No one is knocking on Yacht Club's door asking to make a Shovel Knight saturday morning cartoon show and that's one of the biggest success stories of recent memory. I saw those fanart animations of Pizza Tower as if it was a 90's cartoon and in the 90's it might've actually worked. But now?
True, I can't explain the reasoning for it. But both parties have to agree to something, like instead of waiting for someone to come to you, actually pitch the idea instead, as far as Pizza Tower goes, and Shovel Knight, I don't even know if those IP's are versatile enough to to expand there universes and create new merchandise.
Actually I can explain it, majority of indie devs have next to zero business sense it's mostly incestuous Twitter friends plugging Twitter friends for example, they can "sell" a game because its been made. But not construct a IP that can expand, and generate revenue in the long term. They have to work backwards.
They likely don't want another Minecraft with Notch where they get burnt out or lose control of their IP because of fan expectations.
It's better to just "make games" not lead a series. And after all the IPs I grew up with became famous but the scummy exces come in and ruin them with dogshit like TTGo, Powerpuff Girls, Mega Man, and many others... Yeah, I get not wanting to become big because it will just end in your IP becoming a zombie. Better to just make a game that's timeline and move on to the next, rather than milk one IP dry and watch it become a zombie slave.
>I don't even know if those IP's are versatile enough to to expand there universes and create new merchandise.
It's rare for franchises to actually "feel" like they could be expanded on. If you had played Donkey Kong back in the 80's would you have every guessed jumpman would be the face of this industry with all the different characters and established icons in it? Most have a very humble start that people just keep adding on top.
I do think that's part of it but more so the fact that it's just not as easy to kickstart a franchise like it was in the 90's. Can't just knock out a sequel in under a year alongside two spinoffs and an anime and an OVA and a comic. A lot of these devs are just basing their games off the same 3 or 4 things like
>indie game about clowns >indie game about frogs >indie game about hell
said. If you look at the characters that are actually recognizable among children (Friday Night Funkin, FNAF, the among us things) they all have distinct appearances and settings while most of these games are just Spunky Cheerful Girl in X Scenario
The design is okay and the model is all sorts of fricked because you're too focused on saving polygons in places like the shoes and hat, which is just a featureless lump.
What does only the diffuse/ albedo look like?
These textures hardly have any baked lighting at all (which might not be *totally* necessary in Unreal, but still....), be it lights or fake AO. It also seems like you just applied random noise to things like the ears.
I'd try to remake this model in a year, you'll likely look back on it in horror as your skill has probably progressed by then.
If you haven't pirated Substance Painter and Zbrush yet, I'd change that.
Thanks for the feedback, I bought the steam version of substance. The way the materials look in blender look different from in-game. I'm still figuring this out, but it hasn't been a priority for awhile.
I want to be positive here but calling it inspiration is a very generous way of describing your game, lack of polish aside.
Please elaborate further it's not inconvenient.
the face itself works (even though id probably argue the beanies mass could be toyed with) but
[...]
the pants and shoes contrast badly. im assuming youre going for a silhouette kinda thing but even then it should be exxagerated more.
Are you saying that the extruded parts of the pants should be larger? Or the shoes should be bigger?
>Please elaborate further it's not inconvenient.
A more accurate description would be derivative. But I'll be nice. Outside of the idea you nicked from Odyssey, the only original idea is the bounce pad which I think won't promote player options as much as restrict it with a lot of gameplay solutions boiling down to throwing a bounce pad and jumping on it.
My advice would be to focus on this idea of the bounce pad and get rid of the Cappy. Instead make it so that you can make bounce pads on every single surface, vertical and horizontal. Worst case scenario it'll just be an extra step in creating a wall jump, best case scenario you could make it like how with Portal you can keep and increase momentum with each new portal.
I can agree with derivative, but I disagree on your concept the game is not solely based on the bounce pad its just the only thing I have in the game right now lol. I wish I had more things prepared. But bounce pads are not the only item in the game, you'll collect variety of items to mix and match and create new movement options based on how they are ordered in your inventory.
Also I thought the make tight rope to hat concept was pretty stellar in my eyes, in combination with item ability.
>Also I thought the make tight rope to hat concept was pretty stellar in my eyes, in combination with item ability.
At least from the webm it seems like it's something you do in pre-determined locations so basically it's just not an extra step compared to already having a rope there. But there's ways of going about this of course. Like having to find the rope and then circle back around the level to place it in the right spot to progress.
But hey, it's clearly very early in development. Just try and focus on something that can wow people rather than just saying it's the ten dollar version of Odyssey.

Stupid. Devanon don't you want those big furrybux?
Make your protag a dog shota and it'll sell like hotcakes. That Lucky's Tale game is super simple mechanically but still sold well due to the fox boy. You hardly have to change up his design either for it to work.

Honestly you should just fold and say he's a dog. Looking at his drawn design now even the nose is furry-like, it's more kemono than traditional furry though (which is a good thing).
I'd say give him a tail and maybe something on his shirt so it's not so plain. The in-game the model looks like it needs work and the lack of anything on his shirt makes it look too basic. You might want to consider adding some sort of jiggle physics to the pant legs and poofy parts of the shirt to make them look more natural in a cartoony sort of way. He definitely looks like he was inspired by Parappa and Klonoa... if you really want him to be a human though he's gotta have some proper ears.
Anonymous
To be truthful he's not really human either. What he is is explained at a later point in the lore.
from 2015
The reason his nose looks like that is actually a carry over from a pixel limitation from the Wii U gamepad of all things. I thought it was unique so I ran with it, so it's kind of an stylistic choice the more abstract facial features are the more identifiable he can be.
It does my heart good to see that the cute, mascot action-platformer has been making a steady resurgence. There used to be shitloads of them and I feel like they nearly vanished for a while.
they had a successful kickstarter recently, still no release date though.
the schmovement in the game looks pretty great, the big catch and penny's big breakaway are probably my top 2 games I'm most looking forward to right now
if u wanna play a game by the same devs check out yo noid 2
Who's making this? Is this coming to Steam? It's fricked up Sonic used to be like this in the past, in a bad way, but like the way people wanted see get better. It's like an entirely different IP talking about modern Sonic these days.
no. it's designed to look decent in a short trailer on kickstarter to fleece gullible whales into paying up but the devs have no intention on finishing or even working on the game. the kickstarter indie vaporware scam format is it's own industry or at least it was in like 2017.
I screamed when I heard this was by the Mania Team. I thought the colors and artstyle looked very familar, looking like Studiopolis's color pallete, but I didn't think much of it until the name drop
It unironically looks exactly what I would have liked a 3D classic Sonic game to look like, and, although I'm ok with SuperStar, just thinking of that game but with this artstyle would have been the best timeline. Maybe they'll make SuperStar2 with Oshima and Yasahara next time and thus the best Sonic game of ALL TIME would come into reality
I hope this game comes to steam since I don't have a Switch, but I'll likely just buy a copy anyways just to support them like I did with AHiT. Hope the game ends up good. Also "hurr durr Mania Tream doesn't know how to make a 3D game" gays forever BTFO
can't wait for them to do what sega can't. although I'm impressed at the prospect of a 4-player side-scrolling sonic game, following in the footsteps of Mario and Kirby.
Oh I assumed this was some random nobodies, guess I should have realized there must be some reason it got in the direct. But then they still showed that free to play farming adventure one, where's that coming from it got to be in a real direct?
Hey man, just received a notice from management. We're still short of our buzzword quota. Just make a couple more posts that say literally nothing of value and we should be good.
It's made by people that are actually competent and have proven themselves, and not a bunch of shovelware peddlers headed by one of the biggest hack crooks in the industry.
Mighty No. 9 was some kickstarter patreon nonsense garbage. If you can't get a real budget without begging on the cyber streets then you'd better start kicking those rocks and yes I'm aware there are exceptions
Unironically might be because "it's the mania devs!" is their only big selling point and hate to break it to you guys but most Sonic fans will pretend they care and not buy it
What a neat idea for a game, actually. Using a yoyo motif. Also the penguins chasing you in a huge cluster looks pretty appealing. Hope we can see some more of it soon.
Ori had all the promises to become a long running Microsoft franchise.
In my opinion the simple but very effective character design makes it very recognizable and it could have even become the Microsoft version of Kirby.
It's just that the dev didn't believe in it enough.
I think Ori had a lot of potential. As character it has arms, can use weapons, can get powerups of any sorts. It's a very versatile character that could even work for different types of games and even in 3D.
I disagree. Ori was a perfectly fine game with a couple of highlights and I'm sure the sequel was better since I heard they improved the combat but compared to all time icons he's not even in the top 100. Certainly not enough to be some long standing franchise.
They didn't had to improve anything, the original Ori was already fine, many liked it and beloved in It.
Ori just came out in the worse possible place at the worse possibile time.
"Fine" is the best description for Ori. And the original's combat was dreadful and often pointed out as one of the worst parts. You mentioned you could see Ori being a long franchise but what exactly do you see they could've done? More of the same? A new metroidvania every once in a while that comes and goes without any staying power?
First of, i didn't really care about the combat, i just liked the smooth platforming. The game was charming and original. It had Microsoft founding and a great developer behind. Even the title suggest it could have had more iterations.
They added a lot of new mechanic to Ori and the will of the wisps like rpg elements, this sequel should've actually made clear how much potential the franchise had. Even the combat was a nice change of pace. >More of the same?
Yes just like with super Mario or other platformers, new ideas and features could've been easily added.
Anyway now is too late and the developers doesn't even work with Microsoft anymore so it's just clear they knew it had no chance or interest in the long term because most are just homosexuals like you.
Don't go full CWC on me now. Ori just didn't do enough to really grab people. Didn't help that Ori was released around the same time as Hollow Knight which did grab people.
Anonymous
Hollow knight has literally nothing to do with Ori other than being a cheap knock off that basically had kind of the same promises while also being released on every platform and also being free on playstation 4 when was the monopolized home console when not even the switch was around.
Meanwhile Ori was released as Xbox one exclusive which was one of the worse console debut in history with an audience that didn't even play anything other than Halo and Cod and FIFA.
If you mean everyone preferred a game like hollow knight to Ori, then it's better that things ended this way and they just decided to at least end the Ori series.
why? It's good, personally my second favorite crash game behind crash 2.
the only gripe I have with it is that some of the boxes are bullshit to find. But that's only an issue if you're a completionist
the art style is horrible, it makes the game look like some shitty shovelware
i'll still give it a try though, i have faith that the level design will be good
All I'm suggesting is that if creators had as much faith in there abilities as I do, and strategically craft something to be marketable WHILE maintaining it's SOVL. We could have a renaissance of new IP's that don't drop off into oblivion after a year or two. I get tired of the old guard.
So what's the big idea here? Every platformer has one idea around which the game is built - hats in A Hat in Time, weapons in Ratchet & Clank, speed in Sonic, absorbing powers in Mega Man, running through linear obstacle courses in Crash. I don't see that one idea here.
I guess that can work, but you'll need pretty open-ended levels, kinda like 3D Mario, if you want to focus on player expression. It would be pretty tough to develop, because every level would require a lot of testing for all the gadgets, making sure nothing breaks the game and so on. You can look up Insomniac dev letsplays for R&C if you wanna hear them talk about that kind of stuff.
Also, about the design
I do love money.. but I think we'll settle for "furry passing". If they assume it by default they're already in, I don't got to say a thing.
, the character looks cute, but the clothing needs a bit more detail, some kind of motif to break up the flat colors.
Anonymous
Thanks, this is all stuff I have considered heavily, and I'm prepared to do whatever it takes to make it happen.
Levels are planned to be sandboxes and such.
Could you maybe give an example of what you mean as far as a motif. I'm a man of simplicity, but I know that's not popular for, I've been developing this character for nearly a decade, and he actually was more complicated before.
To be truthful he's not really human either. What he is is explained at a later point in the lore.
from 2015

Yeah putting those two next to each other, the missing markings on left's face, making the eyebros be eyelashes (which explains why people thought this was a girl), the unreal meme textures for the sake of it, instead of going for a cel shaded look, is exactly the problem. Including the fact the original 2D design had a more simple, round head with bigger eyes. You should basically redo the model to look EXACTLY like the 2D drawing as close as feasibly possible. Whoever did the 2D design has a better grasp on appeal.
I think that's the problem with mascot designs, even the iconic old ones, the more you remove the appeals of 2D, the worse the design gets. Sonic and even examples like Rayman ala Rayman 3 work because they were clearly designed for 3D in mind from the start, while American Sonic was 2D-ified a lot for his cartoons.

I made both. For the record, I was extremely attached to the artwork on the left, but I made the necessary sacrifices in order to bring it into 3D because I had to and I deemed it successful. But it's subjective I suppose. I kind of feel like that's dodging an actual solution to the original problem suggested. But thanks anyway

>but I made the necessary sacrifices in order to bring it into 3D because I had to and I deemed it successful.
Then reconsider. We are in an age where it's never been easier to make 3D models look 2D.
Anonymous
That is true, and I might get around to that if I deem it necessary and have the time. The thing that I value a lot about making him in 3D is that it better informed how to draw him in 2D, through that process I was able to fill in a lot of gaps in his overall design. That compromise allows the character to be both 3D and 2D, non exclusively, therefore more versatile imo. Thank you again

the face, proportions, and model all look really good. Although my first impression is that this is a side character in the Parappa series.
You gotta figure out the clothes, though. Baggy clothes are extremely hard to model, and a thousand times harder to animate. Maybe stick with some better fitting clothes? He can look trashy/casual without baggy clothes. Tears, stains, patches, etc. You can figure something out.
If you gotta stick to the baggy clothes though... it's gonna take a lot of work.
The eyelashes make him look like a girl also, in case you didn't notice.

Thank you for the feed-back I've heard plenty of comparisons. But what many non designers don't realize is that this is not an inherent negative.
Also there are certain aspects of his design that are long standing, and I'm not willing to compromise on.
The baggy pants are an important element to his contemporary look that can exist in the modern day as well as any fantasy setting. It as well makes for a distinct lower silhouette much like his hat on his head does, if you notice, they triangular and point down towards his shoes, they lead the eyes well in action poses I find. Sorry for design sperging lol
It might, I definitely get it's the Shitch but I feel like Evening Star would unironically make a game that runs this smooth even on the Shitch, its in their repertoire to do so. We'll see I guess, could easily be wrong.
well i hope 3d devs who have been trying to make sonic work will learn from this but they wont. hate garbage like spark the jester thats just a full game of those "L/R to dash to the side" unleashed segments
So are they really not doing Mania 2 just because they embarrassed the shit out of Sonic Team by being a bunch of fans who made the best Sonic game in over twenty years while Sonic Team kept shitting the bed and Iizuka needed to get rid of them just to cling on to whatever was left of his self-esteem?
artstyle sucks but if its made by the mania team I have high hopes for it. I feel the opposite for the new sonic stars game, it looks fun and I love the style, but I just know sonic team will frick it up somehow like with every game

>Manchild troony likes colourful Black person girl therefore the game will sell to teen boys
What are you not understanding, character is trash and the game isn't gonna sell, there's no way they actually did any market research on these designs, real life isn't fricking Tumblr anon just because it might get some epic upvotes from fat goblin womyn doesn't mean the game isn't going to a financial failure
>there's no way they actually did any market research on these designs
Do you still remember what it's like to have a soul or has that been replaced with a signed contract from the Accounting department? Or are you just one of those diehard sonic fans who's really upset this team won't be shackled to sonic for ever and ever.
>I don't like it therefore my opinion is objective
you are a massive tool and arrogant to boot, you will be miserable your whole life and wonder what the frick happened on your death bed, I want you to know that it was all your own fault
>because the primarily MALE CHILD audience
Oh, so groomer wh*te" "men"
Kys
Also, Sonic's design saving him from dying off proper with 06 is why he's a shit series. Good games or frick off forever. Stop bloating up the industry.
I was so disappointed looking at this. I hoped for a competition to Spark the Electric Jester, but it seems it's more like A Hat in Time. Looks fine for what it is, but I just don't like what it is.
I really don't think this radiates mascot energy. maybe an obscure capcom character with a cult following/ coomerbase Not that it's bad but it just doesn't fit in imo
honest from the gameplay it feels empty as frick and boring, + why do people want collectatons to come back? it's the most dated genre ever, if anyone actually played banjo they would know this garbage doens't work.
also given the terminally online vibe of it, just wait so some furry oc character turns out to be non binary/troony and then you have 10 million threads on Ganker discussing about it.
Literally anti brown skin instantly discredits your post. Woke ugly faced women scans does not make all dark skins bad, see Sheva from Res5 or Cerebella, Eliza and Ms. Fortune from Skullgirls. FFS even the latest Lois Lane tomboy version proves this even further, so stop being a pollack and frick off outta my thread.
>Sonic gets a soulful new game. >Mario gets a soulful new game. >Mania Team makes a soulful new IP. >Genobros and Daisybros are happy.
God mother fricking damn platformergays are gonna be feasting.
I do like this from a technical aspect, Its clear they were going for that classic Sonic aesthetic, but the character is so condensed that their silhouette is bulgy and not very sleek imo
The game looks great but it's very funny to me that a company founded on such a great understanding of Sonic kind of fumbled the ball hard on the main character design. The one lesson they failed to take from Sonic is arguably the only reason he still exists and they just decided frick that.
>. The one lesson they failed to take from Sonic is arguably the only reason he still exists and they just decided frick that.
Do you even know what that "appeal" is?
There's nothing worse than "it's Sonic but OC !" Because that DeviantArt shit actively has detractors since the dawn of time. Look at Bubsy.
Pretty much this.
I guess they never had to design any characters and mostly worked on things like gameplay, level design and music when working on fangames or official Sonic stuff so it makes sense that character designs are their Achilles heel.
Looks extremely good
Im about as hyped as I am for the Mario Wonder, which is really impressive on thsi game’s part lol
Sonic Superstars is also up there but unlike the other two it isn’t almost guaranteed to be good
i wasn't remotely interested in this until learning that the sonic mania team is involved, holy shit. that's something that probably should have been communicated a little better visually (talking about the screenshot for OP not the in-game designs where it shows more)
This is my most anticipated game from the direct. The movement in this looks so fluid and smooth. This will probably be the best 3D platformer in years. It already looks like it puts Hat in Time to shame (not hard to do) and seems to be on par with Mario Odyssey.
I feel like I have an obligation to buy any really promising original titles so that hopefully more of them get made and not buy remakes no matter how much I might want to. I think we might be killing gaming by creating too much of an incentive for companies to just spit polish their old shit and charge full price for it.
Game looks good but holy shit is that main character design bad, no wonder people just kinda glossed over the announcement, all you need is to take one look at that mc and you just ignore it as shovelware.
ironic, they showed us what 2d Snoic is supposed to look like in the modern age, and they're about to do it again with 3d Sonic games, since they are CONSTANTLY shitting the bed
I usually don't like sounding like a snob wannabe artist gay but the color theory of the character and world are absolute garbage, gameplay looks good, but really not more impressive than something like Lucky's Tale or A Hat in Time tried to do, the shilling seems off the charts, yet I'll keep an eye.
>but really not more impressive than something like Lucky's Tale or A Hat in Time tried to do, the shilling seems off the charts, yet I'll keep an eye.
In terms of gameplay, I found it more interesting than Hat in Time. But it will depend on how the yo-yo skills work. Also, this game looks more similar to Mario 3D World which despite being 3D, is made in a way that you have a more restricted area of action, whereas Hat in Time is full 3D like Mario 64. The level design also seems much better.
Yeah, the way you pick up coins made me think of 3D World instantly. It kind of feels like 3D World with Sonic's momentum physics, which sounds really dope as long as they don't frick things up.
She cute!!
>she's a shitskin
Game ruined
She's a fricking toy clown person, why are you pushing your bad /misc/meme?
pee pee poo poo boo hoo
>doesn't like brown e-girls
what are you, gay?
>brown e-girls
She doesn't look like a e-girl and she isn't even remotely attractive. If you're attracted to her you have a mental illness.
So Scarlet and Violet was a shit game because Nemona had dark skin? Or was it just because the game was shit?
No, scarlet and violet was shit because 60% of the characters looked fricking hideous (thanks ESG). Nemona's skin wasn't even that dark, and a lot of real life Spaniards are swarthier than she is. She was the least of the game's problems.
looks pretty good. I'm glad 3D platformers are becoming more popular these days
I'm not getting it on the shitch though. luckily it's coming to PC too
>I'm glad 3D platformers are becoming more popular these days
What the hell are you talking about?
She is cute, does this count as a dicky game?
It's whatever fetish clowns, raggedy ann's, and jack-in-the-boxes count as. Stripe fetish?
shes a circus performer like cerebella, so barely a clown
clown-adjacent still, her design is definitely more clown than Cerabella
The "i love mascot platformers but my self esteem lowers when someone mentions furries" mascot platformer
Clussy
Clunny
>This man tells you trannies are dangerous for wanting to frick kids (won't provide any proof about it, though), while actually being obsessed about raping children.
Get help.
Don't be a falseflagging /misc/tard. We are talking about Penny's Big Game!
rent free
have a nice day
kys (have a nice day soon)
She looks too old to be a dicky game
still a cute mature woman though!
there was a kid in my 1st grade class who had white hair
she had curly hair too, when I saw this character design I immediately thought of her
Same. Maybe we were in the same class.
GILF
Anyone else think this absolutely looks like something that would have been made for the Saturn or Dreamcast by Sega?
getting nights mixed with sonic vibes
The toy-like aesthetic and music reminds me more of Dynamite Headdy and Clockwork Knight.
Looks grand.
Yeah I caught that too. They are also using a very similar color palette to Sonic mania. This definitely feels like a throwback game and I'm very okay with that
Looks more like Mischief Makers
They're Mania devs, so obviously they'll make a throwback. It reminds me of classic Sega arcade games.
Surprised nobody's mentioned Ristar, which was literally made by Sonic Team right after S3&K.
?t=1598
I mentioned ristar hours ago
the yoyo mechanic really does remind me of ristar
ristar was one of my favorite games as a kid so I'm really looking forward to this game
Yeah same. I think it's incredibly overlooked, especially in a world that (Maybe up until Mania at least) is mostly void of physics-oriented platformers, and ESPECIALLY since it has so much replay value. Not as much as a Sonic game, but still.
Seriously if anyone ITT enjoys 2D sonic, go play yourself some Ristar. It's good for you.
It's wrist-star, not ree-star or rai-star.
>Sonic X-Treme redeemed by Mrania Tream
>NakaBlack person in jail seething forever
Best end.
>Yeah, it feels like they’re about to prove they can do 3D Sonic better than Sonic Team too
>implying this shit will surpass sonic adventure
lol
lmao
It's very easy to surpass a tech demo from 20 years ago, anon.
Why do morons keep trying to push this narrative that shit ended on bad terms?
>Whitehead's team remakes Sonic 1, CD and 2, all of which are successful
>Whitehead's team makes Mania, which is so successful that Sonic Team officially branches Classic Sonic out in to its own universe with its own cast of characters (Although Stealth drags Sega through the mud because of Denuvo)
>Instead of following up with the logical sequel, Whitehead's team just...leaves
>And then Origins comes out and Stealth drags Sega through the mud again because of how badly Sega fricked them over
The only real options here are:
1. Sega fricked up real bad (Which is backed up by the Origins fiasco)
2. Whitehead wanted to do his own thing (Possible, but less likely given he's a diehard Sonic fan)
3. Intentional self sabotage
I wouldn't be surprised if them criticizing sega over the denuvo shit is what got them shitcanned
you're not supposed to publically shame your business partners like that
Most devs want to work on their own IPs its why gamefreak keeps trying to shit out something that isn't pokemon.
Sometimes you just want to do what you want to do
Wow, a nintendo game that actually looked like fun
I don't like the design of the MC tbh but holy shit Sega must be shitting themselves since they now got BTFO both in 2d and now 3d by the same fricking devs.
Seriously this looks miles better than anything Sonic Team has put out in the last decade it's insane.
Yeah, ever since that awful looking new sonic game was announced a few weeks ago I've been wondering what the Mania guys were working on. Glad to see it's something awesome
I doubt it. Sonics primary audience is children and children still love Sonic. At this point as long as they time things right they're fine no matter how much is mediocre
incredible WHY IS NO ONE TALKING ABOUT THIS?
Every game sounds terrible when the children's show announcer is making stupid puns over it
It was the most packed direct since E3 2017
looks nice
The use of Sonic-like momentum makes it look pretty good.
This could have been Sonic and it would be seen as amazing
this is so true it hurts. morons will shit themselves in joy over anything that has the blue rat on it.
it did remind me of srb2 because of the scale of the levels
We are on the blessed timeline where we get a new IP instead. Why can't more companies do that? Give us a new IP. The golden age of gaming wasn't defined by sequels and remakes.
I like Tails. He's cute. I'm sad there are no good games being made for him to be in.
gets a soulful new game.
mandate is still in effect so don't hold your breath
gets a soulful new game.
Looks a bit too much like the soulless NSMB Wii for comfort.
>mandate is still in effect
bruh did you even watch the trailer
>b-but muh smrpg
the recolored mario characters were designed by square. cope.
I'm talking about Mario Wonder dude.
If you think that's anywhere near Mario Mandate NSMB-tier slop then I think you need your eyes examined.
Something being a new IP doesnt make it inherently good.
No, let them do their own stuff anon, I'd rather see SEGA having balls, sticking to the Frointers formula and improving it for the next game, whenever that happens.
Unironically the highlight of the direct (not that it had much competition beyond mario lsd edition, but still).
Looks neat but I don't like her eyes
I love them personally. Big ol' onion eyes are cute.
clownbros we won
Did they announce the release date?
trailer just says early 2024
I think just sometime next year
no one missed it, no one gives a shit
>no one gives a shit
cool, thanks for posting
This was my favorite announcement of the Direct, it looks fun as hell
Looks like a typical indie 3D Platformer.
What was all the time spent on?
you don't play many indie platformers do you
this looks miles ahead most of the indie schlock you see these days
Even before they said Sonic Mania I had the thought that it looks better than most indie 3D games
It looks on par with something like Toree 3D or Spark 3 or Frogun.
>Toree 3D
Nah man, Toree 3D was basic as frick
Basic, but it fricking nailed the vibe
the toree games were fun though
The art style was what caught my attention, but then I noticed that the character looked familiar until I realized that this was the game Evening Star was working on (before their names had even come up)
the colours and environments design is good.
the character designs are ass.
looks fine to me. you just don't like soul
every indie platformer has terrible character design
but I will say that this one is the least worst
ori
toree
hatkid
lunistice
lucky's tale
hob
shantae
momodora 3
graple dog
flinthook
Iconoclasts
Ori is not an ibdie game, it's a Microsoft game.
Do you really think Ori character design is that bad?
Don’t like the Black person
yet you keep letting it plough your mother
Penny's got a Marina Liteyears vibe to her
my Black folk
the yoyo grapple thing kinda reminds me of ristar
I think this is the closest we'll ever get to a 3d ristar game
>I think this is the closest we'll ever get to a 3d ristar game
The werehog in Sonic Unleashed tbh. This is more like 3D Dynamite Headdy imo.
I love her, bros
I'm waiting for a drawgay to bless us with cute penny art.
I can't parse her face well.
Her blush marks (eyelashes?) look like the side of a mouth that isn't there.
im glad the sonic mania team is doing their own thing instead of getting jerked around by sega
And this is why Whitehead couldn't work on Superstars. I actually called it. He and the team were working on their own original work.
That was known for a while
Stop bullying him anon is smart and special in his own way ok?
We already knew about this since like 2018, dude.
...Everyone knew this? he literally confirmed it himself.
There are lewds of this girl already aren't there?
As far as I know, no. Too niche of an announcement.
Frick yes 3d platforming bros we can't stop winning. I spit on Sega's grave.
>grave
Anon, I like this Penny game too, but let's be real here.
Superstars by default will sell like hotcakes in comparison.
>The guy who did all the sonic decomps is working on this
fricking NICE
It uses a 3d version of the Retro Engine called the Star Engine. MANIA PHYSICS IN 3D BABY
No, this is from the guy that originally made the remakes that the guy that did the decomps decompiled.
Looks neat. Definitely going to keep an eye out for it. Not entirely sold on the MC's design but the penguins are cute and the yo-yo seems like it'll be a fun mechanic.
looks cute
i knew this game stood out from all the shovelware garbage and when they said the SM team made it, it all made sense why
Man this was a major highlight to me, the game just looks fun to move around in.
THIS
is a fricking video game. why the FRICK can't we go back to this? thank fricking god for indies and to an extent, Nintendo - the only people who are making games and not half a billion dollar movie slop which is devoid of actual gameplay. I don't understand the need for these bigass quadrillion dollar budget games. normies ruined gaming
No frick Nintendo too. Don't give them credit for this.
Looks shit. They should have stuck to helping out with Sonic
Why didn't they put "From the developers behind Sonic Mania" in the trailer? Did SEGA not allow them?
the announcer literally said that
They literally said that in the Direct, you homosexual
>Did SEGA not allow them?
Why and how would you think that's even a possibility?
i tried drawing her a little but not a fan of her design, it has some nice things going on but it's too busy to draw
making your protag hard to scribble is not very fun
Your drawing skills are decent but I feel like you should embrace her exaggerated design more. smaller pupils and skinny limbs. Poofy handcuffs and wide mouth. Thanks for the art anyways drawgay.
tried to make a little take on the design. mainly just excuse to draw big hair
cute!
They likely didn't want the Sonic autism to distract from the great gameplay. It's likely in the sequel they're going to slim her down to make her more "fapable".
How could they make her more fappable than she already is?
>brown skin
Hard pass.
>Sonic Team's 2D game getting BTFO by Nintendo
>Sonic Team's 3D games getting BTFO by Mrania Tream
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
>Sonic Team's 3D games getting B-ACCCKKKKKKKK
This garbage wishes it could sell half as much as Frontiers.
>sonicgay thinks anyone cares about sales
many such cases
>only 3.5 million copies for a switch multiplat release
how embarrassing
I can already see this is how you'll be spending the next few weeks. Rattling in your cage whenever people joke about a new 2D Mario at the same time a new 2D Sonic was announced and now with the Mania team doing their own thing.
>sell
Moderngay cope. ALL NIntendo games sold more than Frontiers did in just the first 3 days, Modern shitnik never sold anything so it's not an argument. Meanwhile ALL classic styled games, Sonic or otherwise, has better ratings than 99% of Modern Shitnik games combined.
so you gays care what journalists and youtubers have to say specifically when it's to push a narrative?
>you gays care what journalists and youtubers have to say specifically when it's to push a narrative?
Yes. Got a problem incel?
>He says after first using sales as an argument against quality
>06 still sold better
the eternal sonicgay seethe
>This garbage wishes it could sell half as much as Frontiers.
Mario and Sonic sold more than Frontiers. Team Sonic Racing sold more than Frontiers. A fricking 2D game sold more than Frontiers. Nobody gives a shit about Sonic Team's games anymore, their most recently announced game looks OK and that's being developed by some other studio. It's over.
Those are combined sales moron. Give it a full year, and frontier would outsell 4.4M easily.
>Sonic Team's 2D game getting BTFO by Nintendo
>implying NSMB Rehash #12 looks even remotely fun, let alone better than a Retro Engine Sonic game
Unironically fire one Nintendo executive every day until they just make Odyssey 2
Well put anon. Nice to see someone who gets it.
>implying NSMB Rehash #12 looks even remotely fun, let alone better than a Retro Engine Sonic game
The game being on Retro Engine doesn't mean shit if the level design is still bad, and modern Sonic Team and Arzest aren't exactly known for quality here.
I’d prefer a rehash with actual platforming over a rehash with gimmicky sandboxes, personally.
Someone's a Sonic fanboy. Wonder looks fricking fantastic and the best thing Sega could do is delay to avoid being absolutely obliterated.
>Frontiers sell many copies and has positive reception
>New Classic-style game that looks good and has new zones
>BTFO
When will it start to catch on that the actual autists are weirdos like you?
Frontiers positive reception is actually one of the biggest downfalls of the game. It proves the fanbase actually doesn't have any bit of standards anymore, even pokemon scarlet and violet were not acceptable by a majority of fans despite the game having some good to it.
Unironically looks fun____
The art direction is pretty good, I really like this.
BENNIS BIG
The girl on the left looked like she had a massive chest. No way that wasn't on purpose.
character looks awful
this is why you never give sonic autists creative rights
I think it looks good but I agree. It's one of those designs that it'll take a while to get used to. Character design seems like a constant thorn when it comes to games made by blatant fans. Either they try to be too much like the game that they're ripping off or they just jumble a bunch of influences together to make something weird looking.
why are indie platformers with yoyo grapple mechanics always so soulful
Yo-yos make for soulful weapons.
Why is it always a girl? Is it some kind of weird OC arousal or just a coincidence?
i want to have sex with a woman
have sex.
Looking at her design, I'm pretty sure they were going for a Marina Liteyears vibe.
She gives me far more NiGHTs and Ristar vibes than Marina. Hell I'd say Shyna from Silhoutte Mirage before Marina.
You remember how for years people complained about gruff bald white man as the default character for most games. Well, developers read that and tried to go in the opposite direction. What's funny is that this kneejerk reaction to bald white man has inspired people to just make vaguely brown women in games to much dismay they dont look good, either.
trannies out of fricking nowhere
well it's either a girl or a boy anon, no inbetween
Will be better than frontiers thats for sure
character design is mid, mines better. Indie devs show restraint
Looks like shit and even worse than Penny by comparison, m8
NINTENDO
what game is this from?
My sick as frick 3D plat-former dated for whenever
Take her clothes off
Will release in 2050
>Take her clothes off
Actually a boy for once
My bad.
Take his clothes off
gave ya a follow on Twitter
Thank you anon, but also where the frick did I leave that info
searched your game name on twitter
Not that anon but I looked up "bashdup" on Twitter lol
Looking forward to play your game anon, looks fun
I'll also draw porn as tribute
Uh, I'd recommend not doing that. But I can't stop you, it's happened before..
Thanks! the original is to the left of it.
I don't mind the original but yours is sleeker, more sensible and more legible.
i like the cute puppy shota anon
I definitely wasn't expecting to see someone from the SRB2 Discord here, though I suppose it makes sense given the context
Yeah, that's how it goes. Everyone visits Ganker, but not everyone would admit that
parappa lookin ass...
>post by an anon with an obvious fetish for getting insulted and yelled at
lol ok
>We want the Parappa the Rapper audience.

No one is knocking on Yacht Club's door asking to make a Shovel Knight saturday morning cartoon show and that's one of the biggest success stories of recent memory. I saw those fanart animations of Pizza Tower as if it was a 90's cartoon and in the 90's it might've actually worked. But now?
A lot of these devs are just basing their games off the same 3 or 4 things like
said. If you look at the characters that are actually recognizable among children (Friday Night Funkin, FNAF, the among us things) they all have distinct appearances and settings while most of these games are just Spunky Cheerful Girl in X Scenario
And then, mother fricking American mac gee's Alice
Indie platformers especially lean into one or to camps, goofy bland scrimblo on a goofy quest, or Kingdom Hearts "deep" stuff.
That sucks
Please elaborate further it's not inconvenient.
Are you saying that the extruded parts of the pants should be larger? Or the shoes should be bigger?
>Thanks for the feedback
Good luck, didn't meant to come off as blunt as I did.
I'm preparing a clip
>Also I thought the make tight rope to hat concept was pretty stellar in my eyes, in combination with item ability.
At least from the webm it seems like it's something you do in pre-determined locations so basically it's just not an extra step compared to already having a rope there. But there's ways of going about this of course. Like having to find the rope and then circle back around the level to place it in the right spot to progress.
But hey, it's clearly very early in development. Just try and focus on something that can wow people rather than just saying it's the ten dollar version of Odyssey.
Stuff like this is what I'm referring to my mindset for this design was to simplify getting from point a to b for casuals while leaving an option for more advanced players to jump off wherever get more height, and start combining item abilities for exploits. regardless thanks for your feedback
Hey anon your game looks neat, can I ask how new to gamedev are you? How long did it take to get to where you are now? Do you know coding?
Thank you, I've been working on this project for a year now, it's my first project. Right now It's blueprints
Very nice for a first project.
>regardless thanks for your feedback
Happy to help. Best of luck with your game.
Thanks.
That's alright, as long as you mean what you say, I can use it.
Cool character design, I like the burlap sack textures and the floppy dog dong on his head.
Thanks lol
Problem is, he's not a dog he just doesn't have ears.
>he's not a dog
Stupid. Devanon don't you want those big furrybux?
Make your protag a dog shota and it'll sell like hotcakes. That Lucky's Tale game is super simple mechanically but still sold well due to the fox boy. You hardly have to change up his design either for it to work.
I do love money.. but I think we'll settle for "furry passing". If they assume it by default they're already in, I don't got to say a thing.
VULNERABLE
My schizo take on Penny, could be too Sonic esc, but at least it looks cool imo
Holy CUTE
holy i love it, i wish she looked more like this
OG hat looks better. But slimmer body and further spaced eyes do help a lot.
I'm certain she's going to get this treatment in the sequel.
I have no idea what the original character is supposed to look like, but that's an excellent illustration anon.
It's fine to have a humiliation fetish, but don't try to drag us into it.
I'm okay with him dragging us into it, because I love to humiliate others
I don't really understand this sentiment, I'm just stupidly confident in my work.
looks like sunbaked dogshit, anon.
We still love you anon.
That makes sense
thanks senpai. i may not play your game, but i love you too.
he looks like a puppy
bashdup pup
Bashdup Pup is actually a way cooler title than Bashdup Wonderworld
That what they teaching you at Full Sail?
Actually, Youtube community college anon
lmao what the frick is this
>i'm just confident bro
Did you know Ken Penders was confident in his work too?
I hope they got the same ost guy
https://twitter.com/TeeLopes/status/1671533679888269316
they did
Well no shit. Thought he'd be too busy working on Superstars.
What a god
The guy must have an impressive work discipline. Just this year he's supposedly working on like 8 projects.
Gotta play this now, I played the new TMNT beat em up just for this guys work and ended up liking it so I'm sure this will be the same
It's CONFIRMED perfect game, we living brothers
TOTINOS TOTINOS, HOW DID YOU KNOW?
SLAM FRICKING DUNK
we are, indeed, feasting
not a fan of the designs even if i kinda get what they are going for
gameplay looks fun tho
>this and The Big Catch
3D platformers are saved
don't know if he's actually going to finish this game, but this one as well
>game was finished
> just wanted to polish it up for a steam release
>still not out
How?
it's a good year
looks fun. Design of the character is meh though.
also wishlisted but i am concerned over it being a kickstarter game.
It does my heart good to see that the cute, mascot action-platformer has been making a steady resurgence. There used to be shitloads of them and I feel like they nearly vanished for a while.
100% this has lesbians and multiple theythems being obnoxiously in your face about it.
dude what the frick this looks fricking awesome? it coming out anytime soon?
they had a successful kickstarter recently, still no release date though.
the schmovement in the game looks pretty great, the big catch and penny's big breakaway are probably my top 2 games I'm most looking forward to right now
if u wanna play a game by the same devs check out yo noid 2
Who's making this? Is this coming to Steam? It's fricked up Sonic used to be like this in the past, in a bad way, but like the way people wanted see get better. It's like an entirely different IP talking about modern Sonic these days.
I’m pretty sure it’s the Yo Noid 2 team.
>Noid
WTF!?
it was made as part of a gamejam
it's short but it's a surprisingly good 3d platformer
coincidentally it also has a yo-yo grapple mechanic
same guys who made yo noid 2
their new studio is called filet group
it's gonna be on steam and switch when it eventually comes out
no. it's designed to look decent in a short trailer on kickstarter to fleece gullible whales into paying up but the devs have no intention on finishing or even working on the game. the kickstarter indie vaporware scam format is it's own industry or at least it was in like 2017.
>I hope this game comes to steam
it is coming to steam theres a steam page for it if you look it up
I'm FRICKING ready
can't wait for them to do what sega can't. although I'm impressed at the prospect of a 4-player side-scrolling sonic game, following in the footsteps of Mario and Kirby.

MRANIA TEEEEAAAAM
I'm glad some concepts from Stealth's umihara kawase clone that never got funded are present in this game.
I hate the main character design. She looks like a weird furry with granny hair. This is seriously gonna detract my enjoyment of the game
>She looks like a weird furry with granny hair.
Other than Penny's design being a little bit too weird looking this game looks great on all other fronts. Playing this day one for sure.
how do they do it? Mania devs literally just created a mascot straight out of a 90's Sega game.
Like the only good thing out of this direct.
I can't believe all the Mandate Mario slop-eaters, even on fricking Ganker!
I thought Mario Wonder looked pretty cool
I'm looking forward to this penny game more though
>the only good thing out of this direct
absolutely
I quite liked the animals and all the different shapes they take. Made me think of the servbots. And I fricking love these little guys.
Honestly looks kinda fun I’ll definitely buy it for the wife
This looks like a game that will get you multiple death threats if you make fanart wrong.
Oh I assumed this was some random nobodies, guess I should have realized there must be some reason it got in the direct. But then they still showed that free to play farming adventure one, where's that coming from it got to be in a real direct?
if there's some soulless indie game thrown into a direct there's a 99% chance it's square enix
looks like a gen 6 game and that’s a GOOD THING
This shit is gonna Balan Wonderworld I know it
t.Seething rotting corpse Naka
Keep rotting in jail, you will never make Sonic games ever again
go to bed balan "dev"
Oh yes, he's in bed with his butt buddy in jail. Sweet dreams, Naka-san
The player character is a bit weird but those yoyo skills look GREAT.
The game is like reverse Balan where the characters look kind of ugly but the gameplay seems awesome.
>ugly brown girl

Tee Lopes is so talented

Looks like a generic 3D indie platformer.
I hate the name penny despite it referencing the coin but otherwise looks neat.

Do not shitpost with my wife Rukia
Just zoomer shitposters that got groomed into thinking everything is trannies and calarts if it doesn't look like a Snoy "game".
Hey man, just received a notice from management. We're still short of our buzzword quota. Just make a couple more posts that say literally nothing of value and we should be good.
style grafix
I hate you more that hitler hated israelites
there's nothing calarts about this shit YOU FRICKING MEGA DOUBLE c**t
This is just bait, but if anyone is genuinely curious as to where the art direction has been derived from, it's from 90's style airbrushed artworks.
No it's not bait
Mark my words this game is going to be Balan Wonderland 2.0
It's made by people that are actually competent and have proven themselves, and not a bunch of shovelware peddlers headed by one of the biggest hack crooks in the industry.
yeah man
there's no way Mighty No. 9 is gonna be a flop
It's made by the original creator of Megaman!!!
Mighty No. 9 was made by a bunch of shovelware peddlers headed by one of the biggest hack crooks in the industry.
Are you trying to prove his point? Passionate fans are more trustworthy than "industry veterans"
Mighty No. 9 was some kickstarter patreon nonsense garbage. If you can't get a real budget without begging on the cyber streets then you'd better start kicking those rocks and yes I'm aware there are exceptions
>calarts
>while posting generic moe anime girl #36204612549473629
>ugly shitskin femoid m-ACK
lol
Anon, the gameplay has already been shown and it looks pretty good.
It literally cannot be like those two, the worst it can be is a commercial flop.
Unironically might be because "it's the mania devs!" is their only big selling point and hate to break it to you guys but most Sonic fans will pretend they care and not buy it
bait posts like this should just be a straight instant permaban, so fricking dumb
I feel like I'm the only one that really likes the artstyle as is and don't think it's ugly. What about it bothers you anons out of curiosity?
Her eyes look weird.
starting to get the hang of drawing her
cute!
NOW DRAW HER giving me a hug

Not getting a switch though
It's multiplatform. It's on other platforms as well.

ok so the question I have
is she ouh or not ouh?
artstyle makes it hard to tell
What a neat idea for a game, actually. Using a yoyo motif. Also the penguins chasing you in a huge cluster looks pretty appealing. Hope we can see some more of it soon.
This the clown fanart thread?
she cute
She looks a lot better without those weird sideways tear shaped eyes.
It's because she's latina.
>Molly McGee
She's a SEA hafu tho

This was a big standout for me, it was that Dreamcast/Gamecube old-school Sega Soul
Real Billy Hatcher energy, in particular
They really went too far
Stole the show for me. I'm very excited for this.
Ori had all the promises to become a long running Microsoft franchise.
In my opinion the simple but very effective character design makes it very recognizable and it could have even become the Microsoft version of Kirby.
It's just that the dev didn't believe in it enough.
I don’t think Ori had legs enough for more games. Loved the first one enough to 100% it but the sequel wasn’t interesting enough for me to even beat
If you mean everyone preferred a game like hollow knight to Ori, then it's better that things ended this way and they just decided to at least end the Ori series.
what are some good 3d platformers i can buy and play right now
Demon Turf
Toree 3D
Crash 4
Spark 3
Psychonauts 2
Lunistice
Grow Home
>Crash 4
you can remove this one anon
why? It's good, personally my second favorite crash game behind crash 2.
the only gripe I have with it is that some of the boxes are bullshit to find. But that's only an issue if you're a completionist
I'll donkey punch your b***h ass.
>Demon Turf
you can remove this one anon
Demon Turf is actually good, ignore the cringey dicky gays
So that's why it looks pretty good for an indieshit. Now where is the porn?
Penny is not for sex
It's been 3 hours, where is the Rule 34? Not saying I want to see it. But it should exist.
looks moronic
in a cute way
Who's doing the music. It doesnt sound like steaming shit.
Tee Lopes, the Sonic Mania guy.
That's all I needed to know. I'm buying this game without question.

the art style is horrible, it makes the game look like some shitty shovelware
i'll still give it a try though, i have faith that the level design will be good
i'll do 1 (one) request, nothing too hot though i'll let the pro drawgays handle that
draw her hanging out with the noid
Draw her selling meth.
Penny walking the dog
thanks I love it
just when I thought the clown porn meme finally ended we start the cycle all over again
All I'm suggesting is that if creators had as much faith in there abilities as I do, and strategically craft something to be marketable WHILE maintaining it's SOVL. We could have a renaissance of new IP's that don't drop off into oblivion after a year or two. I get tired of the old guard.
post gameplay of your dog game anon
He's not a dog but
It's been a year I've been working on this alone focusing solely on getting the mechanics and feel just right.
Collect items and use them for puzzle solving/ advanced platforming. That's the concept. promote player expression
Your hat is also a rope, get creative. promote player expression.
Inspiration is obvious
I want to be positive here but calling it inspiration is a very generous way of describing your game, lack of polish aside.
So what's the big idea here? Every platformer has one idea around which the game is built - hats in A Hat in Time, weapons in Ratchet & Clank, speed in Sonic, absorbing powers in Mega Man, running through linear obstacle courses in Crash. I don't see that one idea here.
You collect items that give you platform abilities, you can chain them together to create unique movement sequences. they come out of your hat.
You can also use your hat as a tight rope, by throwing them onto one pole and to another.
Also, about the design
, the character looks cute, but the clothing needs a bit more detail, some kind of motif to break up the flat colors.
Thanks, this is all stuff I have considered heavily, and I'm prepared to do whatever it takes to make it happen.
Levels are planned to be sandboxes and such.
Could you maybe give an example of what you mean as far as a motif. I'm a man of simplicity, but I know that's not popular for, I've been developing this character for nearly a decade, and he actually was more complicated before.
old design
more illustrative game play example
either way, I appreciate the feedback
Also, people thought he was a girl long before his design even got to that point. lol
Confidence is what it takes, anon. Fortunately, I'm not Ken Penders. Thank you
make him a zombie
rip the clothes and turn the hat into brains
your tagline is now "use your brain!"
the face, proportions, and model all look really good.
Sorry for design sperging lol
the face itself works (even though id probably argue the beanies mass could be toyed with) but
the pants and shoes contrast badly. im assuming youre going for a silhouette kinda thing but even then it should be exxagerated more.
Probably going to be a great game but the trailer makes it look like slop
it looks kinda bad
why?
this really goes to show the importance of good character design and a consistent style, because this looks shit
This really goes to show the importance of having good taste before posting because this post is shit.
CLUSSY
I like what they're doing. Will probably pick it up if not day-one buy.
There is no way in hell this will run at 60 FPS like in that trailer.
t.toaster user
I assure you it will and be yet another example of Mrania Tream making Sonic Team look bad.
I'm taking about the Nintendo version genius, y'know from that trailer in the Nintendo presentation.
It might, I definitely get it's the Shitch but I feel like Evening Star would unironically make a game that runs this smooth even on the Shitch, its in their repertoire to do so. We'll see I guess, could easily be wrong.
who cares, most of us have both a switch and PC
well i hope 3d devs who have been trying to make sonic work will learn from this but they wont. hate garbage like spark the jester thats just a full game of those "L/R to dash to the side" unleashed segments
Actually looks good, thanks op
This game looks super interesting, and the devs are good. So I'm hyped for it.
Evening Star is so committed to their Sonic roots they also made a character that looks way better in drawn 2D art than as a 3D model.
It looks pretty cute, down to buy it on sale or if it isn't full price
So are they really not doing Mania 2 just because they embarrassed the shit out of Sonic Team by being a bunch of fans who made the best Sonic game in over twenty years while Sonic Team kept shitting the bed and Iizuka needed to get rid of them just to cling on to whatever was left of his self-esteem?
I demand porn of the clussy.
artstyle sucks but if its made by the mania team I have high hopes for it. I feel the opposite for the new sonic stars game, it looks fun and I love the style, but I just know sonic team will frick it up somehow like with every game
the title is kind of shit
and Penny's design is just okay
some indie platformers try too hard to be quirky hoping they land on charming and noticeable
I do like it overall though
I agree on the title. I've been thinking what else it could've been called but I'm coming up empty.

Why the frick do I wanna play as some little grandma-looking Black person girl? Sales automatically taking a hit because the primarily MALE CHILD audience of Nintendo isn't going to want to play as their SHIT character.
your non video game player mario hate thread is that way>>>>>
Mario is MALE and has the benefit of being heavily established, this character might have worked back when each sprite was around 16pixels wide and 2 colors but it's just not interesting enough to make sales in today's market, sorry.
Penny a cute!
CUTE!!!
>I don't like it therefore my opinion is objective
you are a massive tool and arrogant to boot, you will be miserable your whole life and wonder what the frick happened on your death bed, I want you to know that it was all your own fault
>the primarily MALE CHILD audience

Also, this game's not going to be a Switch exclusive.
>because the primarily MALE CHILD audience

Kys
Also, Sonic's design saving him from dying off proper with 06 is why he's a shit series. Good games or frick off forever. Stop bloating up the industry.
Looks pretty good.
don't be transphobic anon.
Dilate
you first sister
these are some of the ugliest most unappealing designs i have ever seen
westoids are incapable of making cute and appealing cereal box mascot characters
Do we know if they'll do a physical release?
I'm hoping for a GoG release.
Looks like a nice platformer but the character design is garbo.
This looks cool, however I hate the name. I'll still buy it though
I was so disappointed looking at this. I hoped for a competition to Spark the Electric Jester, but it seems it's more like A Hat in Time. Looks fine for what it is, but I just don't like what it is.
I love what it is
3d sonic likes suck
Do they? There's only two and one only has a demo out.
Are any of Spark games good? I love 3D Sonic, but I never played those.
Kind of upsetting the YoYo concept doesn't manifest in their design in anyway
This actually looks really good. Kinda sad this isn't the direction Sonic would take in 3D, but whatever. I'm definitely getting this day 1.
Why do autists choose to be so ass blasted by the most innocuous shit?
Why does this cute little platformer make them want to shove a remote up their own ass?
Cuteness Aggression
shake shake?
When was the last time we got a clown platforming mascot? Starshot?
There was Pandemonium on the PS1. I guess Psychonauts could count as Raz is meant to be a circus performer.
Disgusting ugly protagonist
That didn't stop Mario
You might not like it, but this is what peak male performance looks like.
Ok israelite
>another cute brown platforming mascot
I'm liking this trend.
double shake looks cool, but I'm sorry she does not have mascot energy. she just looks like some generic human character
If we're talking about the offical art, then I'd agree. But her in-game look fits right in with other platformer mascots.
Game?
Jesus I like big hips but I wasn't even aware how well PS1 pixelation goes with big hips.
I really don't think this radiates mascot energy. maybe an obscure capcom character with a cult following/ coomerbase Not that it's bad but it just doesn't fit in imo
so like Tomba
honest from the gameplay it feels empty as frick and boring, + why do people want collectatons to come back? it's the most dated genre ever, if anyone actually played banjo they would know this garbage doens't work.
also given the terminally online vibe of it, just wait so some furry oc character turns out to be non binary/troony and then you have 10 million threads on Ganker discussing about it.
trying to hard.
>banjo collectaton
at least watch the trailer you're shitting on first, zoomer
Where are the bosses?
Looks like shit.
Literally anti brown skin instantly discredits your post. Woke ugly faced women scans does not make all dark skins bad, see Sheva from Res5 or Cerebella, Eliza and Ms. Fortune from Skullgirls. FFS even the latest Lois Lane tomboy version proves this even further, so stop being a pollack and frick off outta my thread.
who are you talking to
So where's the porn?
>Sonic gets a soulful new game.
>Mario gets a soulful new game.
>Mania Team makes a soulful new IP.
>Genobros and Daisybros are happy.
God mother fricking damn platformergays are gonna be feasting.
Ooh boy, will it turn out as good as Mania?
I love 3D platformers. But I am not really feeling the art style.
It looks fricking ace
>Scrimblo Yoyo
Made her Sonic-like
I do like this from a technical aspect, Its clear they were going for that classic Sonic aesthetic, but the character is so condensed that their silhouette is bulgy and not very sleek imo
>make cool gameplay
>mc is ugly
but why
much better
Sonic Superstars is also up there but unlike the other two it isn’t almost guaranteed to be good
literally me as I heard
>made by the developers of Sonic Mania
Holy shit the design of the protagonist looks disgusting. At least there's an elf with giant breasts in OP's pic in the background to the left
>"Let's do yooka laylee, but sonic"
Brilliant
i wasn't remotely interested in this until learning that the sonic mania team is involved, holy shit. that's something that probably should have been communicated a little better visually (talking about the screenshot for OP not the in-game designs where it shows more)
This is my most anticipated game from the direct.
>This is the game that does Sonic better than Sonic Team
This is a literal meme world. What the frick is wrong with SEGA?
looks great but cartoon character is vaguely not white so i guess i need to hate it
The visuals clearly seem inspired by Saturn-era Sonic artwork and I love it.
Game looks good but holy shit is that main character design bad, no wonder people just kinda glossed over the announcement, all you need is to take one look at that mc and you just ignore it as shovelware.
It's obvious it's going to be good
I'm excited for it. Looks fun.
I can't be the only one who thinks they were trying to make a Marina Liteyears styled protagonist, right?
I like her design. She's cute.
i just noticed the pseudo big breasts evil elf in the background. SEXO
nvm i thought i wasn't gonna be able to buy it but it is coming to pc
i have a switch I just dont fricking plan on getting any more games for it
ironic, they showed us what 2d Snoic is supposed to look like in the modern age, and they're about to do it again with 3d Sonic games, since they are CONSTANTLY shitting the bed
It kind of feels like 3D World with Sonic's momentum physics, which sounds really dope as long as they don't frick things up.
she reminds me of Marina from Mischief Makers
I wanna know who this is. She looks cute.
secondary antagonist rival character?
All kneel to the one true not-quite-sonic
>cringe sonic autists are making a cringe homosexual platformer when not making sonic
Yep I am not surprised they would make something like this.
>cringe homosexual platformer autists are making a cringe homosexual platformer when not making a cringe homosexual platformer
what
If only the character did look stupid and overly designed.
ugly chara with no soul, no sexo
The Big Catch will be my Game of The Decade and the only reason I'm not killing myself is because oneday that game will release this decade
