We gonna pretend Labyrinth, Hilltop, Carnival Night and Sandopolis don't exist? Yeah, Wacky Workbench is AIDS, but it's an entire order of magnitude worse than the rest of the game. Tidal Tempest and Quartz Quadrant in particular are fantastic.
What the frick is even bad about Hill Top there are moments where you go fast in that level? It’s not that bad, the others aren’t bad imo unless you’re bad at video games, but Labyrinth is how you DON’T design a water level, I’ll give you that.
Hill Top is a goddamn mess that the team salvaged with Marble Garden in 3. Absolute bore of a level. Would bring the game down if Mystic Cave wasn't kino.

Out of all those zones, only Carnival Night ever annoyed me slightly. Sandopolis in particular I never understood why is hated so much. Those ghosts were never a big problem to me.

I don't think the game will be bad, but all the prerelease footage and screens have heavy "we have Sonic Mania at home" vibes. It just isn't instilling that feeling of excitement and wonder like Mania did.
I disagree but only because they have Ohshima on board and it's all new levels, both those things help it feel more special, especially since we haven't gotten a Sonic game with exclusively new themes since Colors (Lost World I guess counts too even though Windy Hill speaks for itself and every other world in the game is just a theme from NSMB without much else to help it feel unique/Sonic like)
I mean, how many throwbacks/celebrations of Sonic do we really need? Mania was only 6 years ago and Generations 6 years before that. Superstars looks like a bootleg Mania but made by people that haven't had any true passion for the series since like Adventure.

1 year or so ago i remember something about them incorporating hidden palace in an original way/final fever for sonic cd but have not seen/heard any progress
There's different teams for different games. Team Forever does 1 Forever and 2 Absolute. They're working on stuff for 2, but it's slow going because most of them are literal high school students and the oldgays don't want them to ruin their lives and burn out.
CD Restored is handled by the painfully autistic "PimpLuigi", who is so difficult to work with that no other mods are compatible with his anymore. This means you have to pick between his shit and the "& Knuckles" mod. It's a shitshow.
A.I.R.is handled by Eukaryot3K and other people. Just check their website and the various modding hubs.
The CD modding scene is a mess so I just have an old version of Restored that has both Amy and Knuckles and I'm not updating it anymore. It's good enough as it is right now anyway.

My only beef with the fan ports is that I can't edit assets in S1F without fricking them up since they're in GIF format. I try to save adjustments and the image gets compressed.
I had that same problem with Mania mods, the only program I found that you can edit them in and not have them get fricked up is in GIMP.

They fixed some things but ultimately no. Stick to the decomps. Origins is only for people too lazy or ignorant to setup the decomps.
It's a bigger file size with very few additions (better S3 Sonic and Super Sonic sprites).
Origins is already decent now because they fixed most of the issues it had except we're probably never getting a customization menu and they're never changing the muffled S3&K OST.
I suggest you sticking with the decomps for the definitive experience, but if you really want it on console, wait til it's on sale because it's not worth spending the $40

Apparently they're also still not synced properly with the audio, even in Origins Plus.
I can deal with desynced audio far better than Sonic's legs changing color because the AI upscaler they used shat itself.
Either track down the cels and actually remaster it, get someone to re-ink ALL of the linework, or don't bother.

believe it or not i don't think she needs a double jump, the hammer spin does a lot on its own letting her bypass spiked enemies and hit bosses more easily (though it could deflect projectiles) and the hammer rush is basically a drop-peelout that puts her immediately into a running state if released soon enough, and can go into a full-on drop dash if released while holding down

Compared to her Advance moveset it's extremely underwhelming and generic. I didn't like it at all in Origins, she was just a slower Sonic clone.
The one thing every Amy moveset should keep no matter what they change is the spring giving you extra height when hit with the hammer.
