Xbox is rumoured to want to go early and write off this gen to get ahead of Sony. Sony could be reacting and want to match Xbox because the one time they weren't early (PS3) was their worst early period ever.
Sony is scared of the Switch 2, if they don't do anything and wait until the PS5 is 6 years old they might lose even more market share. The Switch was insanely popular without multiplats, if the Switch 2 manages to run the same games as the other 2 then it's over.
Because PS5 has been out long enough that the hardware is starting to have all the same issues as the PS4 had so they want the buzz to be about what's to come next not how they sound like jet engines and have overheating issues starting to pop up
PS4 was strong between 2018 and 2020. PS5 has 4 more years left and that will be stronger than the first half

I’m happy with my ps5. Returnal and Demon’s Souls were both great. Didn’t care about the other exclusives but let’s not pretend like people didn’t love God of War and Spider Man. There’s probably something else too that I’m forgetting. But overall I don’t care about exclusivity in general, I just want a stable system to play games on, without cheaters.

You know we're living through the worst of both worlds. Consoles have very little exclusives, so you will still need to buy them if you want to play those games.
The problem is that the exclusives are so few that your console will feel like a useless device, I bought the them thing, I wish it had more games, you either have no exclusives so I don't have to buy it, or have a decent chunk so I can enjoy it.
All that cutting edge tech, gorillions of flippa-flops, trillions of gdpr7 memory, liquid metal drip, etc and consoles still can't do 1080p at 60fps. They can't even do stable 30 at 1080p.
Public flogging has to come back for shitty optimization. I understand PC: there are poorgays like me with 2 gens old GPU, there are tech-reviewers with bestest hardware possible, there are toaster-gays, there are rich-gays and so on, infinite hardware variation and manufacturers slip in their bullshit gimmicks that barely work on appropriate hw and shit the bed on competitor's. But there 2-3 consoles. How fricking hard is that?
its nuts. games load slow as shit too, even after they go on about the ssd. you look for videos and its like 3-4 minutes sometimes. a lot of AAA games are going to waste a minimum of five minutes of your life every time you play the game between notifications and load screens.
The next gen consoles will be all about generating extra frames and upscaling to make it seem like they are much more powerful when in reality they are only like a 20% step up in processing power

Graphics reached diminishing returns long ago. Empty hyperbole, there is no improvement to be made beyond a PS5. The performance of a 4090 isn't a big enough jump in the real world and can't be done at a low price.
They just meant hardware price wise.
There's not a single 9th gen game that doesn't seem impossible on 8th gen consoles. It doesn't feel like they use even half of what 9th gen consoles are should be capable of.
RDR2 feels more like 9th gen than any 9th gen exclusive.

That's because graphics have hit diminishing returns to the point where even if you increase the power of the console by 20% you won't be able to notice any difference in the graphics that require that extra power. Even if they shoved a 4090 in the next gen console it would look barely better while running barely better than current gen
This is why frame insertion and upscaling will be all the talk with the next gen consoles because they will be able to push 60fps at 4k while still increasing the quality of the graphics. They will probably call it AI powered or something in marketing
