You know what's fricked up? That might actually lead to higher rates of game completion if people can actually turn on autoplay and treat it like a movie or Twitch stream. Put some developer commentary over it and that's peak zoomer gaming.
I honestly don't understand why people that don't want to play games buy or bother even bother with them. If they want to "be a part of the discussion", it's cheaper to watch YouTube/Twitch or parrot someone else's opinion.
Real answer
disabled people is the new grift for companies
its makes companies look good and it lets them make games that are easier as well
also periphals sold to disabled people like those custom xbox controllers
I mean I wont lie theres absolutely games that I feel like should be played with your brain essentially or eye tracking. Like visual novels. Also youtube compression, its nice to play things at your own pace even if its technically "auto"
That’s just capitalism. They’ve already secured (you) as a customer and now they’re trying to add people with no arms to their consumer base while retaining as many of the original rubes as possible.
You're getting a taste of it with the TLOU, The Witcher, and now Fallout TV series. I know for certain nobody cared THAT much about Fallout prior to the show, but I'm willing to bet that the majority of people you ask "what is your favorite game from Bethesda" will say Fallout by the end of the year. That comes after they ask you "What's Bethesda?" and you explain they made Skyrim and Fallout.
This is fantastic. After years of making movie games, they're finally going to start eliminating whatever "game" parts there were. The "best" part is that they will end up selling and reviewing infinitely better than anything else they've done, so one day we get to literally skip the actual game part, put the controller down, and watch it like a movie. Better still, well get to pay $80-$100 for it and by DLC for however much they will charge for more content.
Doing this shit just makes it so that gameplay segments are isolated and don't actually fricking matter.
For example, to make this shit work, it'd have to be so that if you ran out of bullets in level 1 and then chose to auto-play in level 2, it'd have to magically give you a full supply of bullets again.
Or in an RPG, if you played well enough that you defeated the first boss while being level 3, which is 2 levels below the expected average. and then you need to at least be level 8 for the next boss, the game would have to magically give you at most 5 levels instantly.
It's all a farce and makes your decisions pointless.
Women (the primary demographic of Sony's games) will love it.
The more icky gameplay they can avoid, the more they can kick back and enjoy """the story""".
Stupid? Anon this is them zeroing in on their target audience. Snoys are not the PS1/PS2 era playing wipeout or ape escape, they want Long Cinematic Experiences with Walking and Narration. Picking up the controller just gets in the way of that.
Absolute this. The PS1/PS2 may as well not even exist to Sony at this point and honestly I can't blame them. Nobody talks about the PS1 or the games anyway and the PS2 is only remembered for San Andreas and maybe Tony Hawk and other sports games (you might even get someone bringing up FFX). Anyone who was a fan of the Sony of the PS1 and PS2 era have either left a long time ago or have long sense accepted that the Sony of that era is gone and never coming back.
There was a gdc where a developer made a feature for Akari warriors where a demo for the game plays... And you can at any moment click the button as a "start from here" feature
I think that would be perfect honestly, play the game for all the parts I'm indifferent about and then let me press the dive-in button when it's done
The standard mobile game is supposed to have an auto mode to compete in the mobile game industry. I guess this is just Sony's way of trying to put it on their gacha games in their console.
1. I suppose soon enough with enough of these bullshit corporations patenting gameplay mechanics it will become impossible to even develop games if you are a small time dev?
2. Sony's "games" really are about to finally become the meme in their entirety. They were always movie games anyways.
>you still can't skip cutscenes though
Why would you want to skip them? What do you mean? Isn't that the game? Nobody cares about controlling the character or whatever, it's all just filler before you get to the cutscenes. Or are you not a real gamer after all?
They keep stepping in it.
And sadly it's not even Tony's
Mobile gacha games had auto mode since like 2012
The gachafication of gaming continues.
Nintendo had first precedent over a decade ago so gl with that.
Moviegames will soon no longer be a meme.

Kojima started this shit
ONE of the cutscenes in MGS4 is 71 minutes long
well he did invent the "camera" after all

The amount of tourists on Ganker right now playing fallout for the first time because of the TV show is really sad.
Why? I read a book because of a game. Why shouldn’t someone play a game because of a show?
Because then you get on here and have loud Black person zoomer (incorrect) opinions
>be a part of the discussion
Indeed, they want to be part of the group. Be one "of the guys". That's pretty much it.
>autoplay
didn't unicorn overflop already come out?
Theyre getting sued by korean mmos
Sony always wins, sweet baby!
they are never beating the movie game allegations
this will literally turn games into movies
I strongly suspect that this is a "gaming journalist" mass request.
Is this a skip function? Because hentai games have had this shit for years, and I don't mean text skip. Actual skip gameplay segment button.

I can't fricking wait!

What is wrong with the Snoys that are left on this board? How do you live with this company day in and day out?
Just not histrionic is all
The future Ganker asked for.

No way they're going to successfully patent that
Why are they patenting something so fricking stupid.

In the future, tons of seniors are going to be playing video games.
>journalist-mode
Pretty sure snoy Cinematic Experiences have always had this feature built in.

this is that thing Jerma was talking about
I guess I have two thoughts on this.
1. I suppose soon enough with enough of these bullshit corporations patenting gameplay mechanics it will become impossible to even develop games if you are a small time dev?
2. Sony's "games" really are about to finally become the meme in their entirety. They were always movie games anyways.
No more Luigi Mode then?

True journalist mode starts now. They'll finally complete their very first game.
