This shit bugged me when I played the remakes too.
Kanto and Jotho have very distinct ambiances in GSC, to the point it really feels like going to another country with the SS Aqua or the magnet train.
I started with R/B and I think HGSS is better than GSC overall. Not to say the original doesn't do some things better (there's something really nice about the atmosphere for example, and Crystal had animated sprites while nothing else did until BW etc.) but I'm not going to pretend the more Asian vibe makes it better than all the stuff HGSS added.
Kanto is supposed to have fewer trees because it's on the Kanto PLAIN of Japan. The remake using trees is just a better alternative to fences and weird pylons everywhere that make no sense, though obviously it injures the fact that you are in what amounts to a big grassland, and they should've found an alternative.

The Battle Tower was the first battle facility, but JohtoBlack folk are known to be awful at battling. Just look at how terrible the Johto dex is, nobody wants to use a fricking Corsola or Yanma. That means they have to cheat with held and hax items to give themselves an edge over the superior Kantonians.
And I love how people claimed that all of the Johtomons that got ruined in Gen IV when Gen II ruined them by not giving them said evolutions in the first place. We're only now getting to the point where some of them are finally getting the boost they need but there's still a lot of work to be done.
Artworks are irrelevant, they arent present at all in the game, even the initial professor cutscene sprites tends to be different.
The second one is drawn to be obviously in the ash anime, it doesnt matter at all. All you see about him in the game is his throwing pokemon sprite, the ID sprite and his overworld sprite, which are amazing.
His generations rendition was also very cool looking. And I'd dare to say, effectively he looks better than the original design, even though I like that the original looks like a 9 years old while the new one looks 15.
And if i have to guess gamefreak's purpose with it, was precisely to make him as older as many years passed from GS to HGSS. You can even say original gold looks 6 while the new one looks 16
I just want the world map to look like gsc and the battle animations to look like hgss

The Battle Tower was the first battle facility, but JohtoBlack folk are known to be awful at battling. Just look at how terrible the Johto dex is, nobody wants to use a fricking Corsola or Yanma. That means they have to cheat with held and hax items to give themselves an edge over the superior Kantonians.

Artworks are irrelevant, they arent present at all in the game, even the initial professor cutscene sprites tends to be different.
The second one is drawn to be obviously in the ash anime, it doesnt matter at all. All you see about him in the game is his throwing pokemon sprite, the ID sprite and his overworld sprite, which are amazing.
His generations rendition was also very cool looking. And I'd dare to say, effectively he looks better than the original design, even though I like that the original looks like a 9 years old while the new one looks 15.
And if i have to guess gamefreak's purpose with it, was precisely to make him as older as many years passed from GS to HGSS. You can even say original gold looks 6 while the new one looks 16
I just want the world map to look like gsc and the battle animations to look like hgss
going back to a plain white battle background kind of messes with me, if you could have some sprite artwork in there it might be doable too
