I know the game lacks content. It's frustrating. A third version close to the quality of Emerald/Platinum could have really been special. As it is, I think XY are flawed but great. Mega Evolution, fantastic music, some beautiful towns, the success of Greninja (hate it or love it), a great anime adaptation. I really think they tried on this region and I feel a soul to it.
Hopefully the remakes essentially serve as everything a proper Pokemon Z should have been.
>great anime adaption

Regardless of quality of the story, X and Y are the prettiest games along with Crystal and Legends. That along with the qol improvements and the best online experience Pokémon has ever had, make these games a solid 8/10 for me.
Amazing replay value is also a big plus.
Forgot to add I don't give a shit about the anime since I'm not a manchild.
>I'm not a manchild.
>is posting on /vp/
Only problem with XY was the difficulty. Story was a step down from bw2 but it was still better then 4/5 generations before it
>I know the game lacks content
except it doesn't
>A third version close to the quality of Emerald/Platinum
base XY is already easily better than Platinum what the frick are you talking about?
>the game doesn't lack content

>base XY is already easily better than Platinum
very much not a high bar, but I get it
there are some copes in your post anyway, but why people hated it is mainly:
>game actively makes it impossible to lose
>too much Kantooooo
>few mons, mainly no 580 legendary trio and like no ground types too
I'd never say it's the worst either, there's like DiaPer, LGPE, SwSh, and the even-worse-somehow BDSP
>impossible to lose
I picked up the game on emu a few weeks ago and I lost to the gym where you climb
Feels bad man
it's the literal hardest part of the game, yeah
except the rest of the game should be like it lol
it's like when people go "Whitney and Clair too hard" when it's just Pryce that's not hard enough
>>game actively makes it impossible to lose
As the guy who made that post, this has been a trend from gen 6 onwards and I hate it. I wish there was a way to turn off that happiness shit where pokemon dodge attacks in tune with your shout or whatever.
>few mons, mainly no 580 legendary trio and like no ground types too
I'm not sure if I'm interpreting what you're saying correct, but every pokemon is in X/Y. every single one of em
>As the guy who made that post, this has been a trend from gen 6 onwards and I hate it
The top 3 hardest games in the series are all games after gen 6. Frick off with this moronic meme.
Futuresis?
Which game is harder than No Exp. Share XY? Surely you don't mean SM, Ultra changes (which is fricking easier than vanilla SM) or SS, right?
how... how?
how is anything hard when every single pokemon you use now has sturdy by default, dodges every single move, and has forced exp share?
That isn't how comparisons work. When I played through Brilliant Diamond recently, I couldn't make my pokemon faint no matter how hard I tried. It just kept holding out because it loved me or whatever. I think it once happened like 3 times in a row.
>When I played through Brilliant Diamond recently
who said anything about brilliant diamond?
People like you are why nobody likes XY lol
>letting other people's opinions influence your preferences
You have to be 18 to post here.
>conveniently ignoring you are given multiple nukes to completely no-sell any threat up to and including U-Necrozma
That pic provides nothing but a disingenuous, bad faith argument. Try harder.
Also, XY is harder than both BW/BW2 and SM/USUM if you turn off the OPTIONAL Exp. Share, something that the newest games don't even give the player the choice to do.
>use """"""nuke"""""""
>togedemaru used spiky shield!
>togedemaru used bounce!
wow
>20 Atk Incineroar Inferno Overdrive (190 BP) vs. 248 HP / 0 Def protected Togedemaru: 170-201 (51 - 60.3%) -- 89.1% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
>252 Atk Togedemaru Bounce vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Incineroar: 84-99 (25.3 - 29.9%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
So Togedemaru dies after doing what ammounts to chip damage and suddenly you're free to steamroll because the threat is gone.
LOL
LMAO even.
>didn't include the +2 def boost togedemaru gets
lmao moron
Not that anon but it still dies to any stab 80+ power Fire move after the spiky shield without even needing to pop the Z-move and can't KO Incelroar in less than 3 turns
I never understood why it's so popular to hate on X/Y. I'm guessing because of the collective, contrarian "everything new sucks" mindset.
PSS was probably the best online interface we ever got in a pokemon game. Wonder trade was fun. And until pokebank arrived, it was incredibley difficult to hack the game, so everything was fresh. Lumiose was the first fully 3D city. You could pass other people who own the game and get street pass points to buy in-game items off of pokemon-gl website. It has potentially the most extensive character customization of any pokemon game. It was the first game to introduce omnidirectional movement and the first time riding a bike actually felt good. It was the first game that let you natively check pokemon IVs.
I could keep going on and on about this game but I don't get how anyone could say it's the worst
>because of the collective, contrarian "everything new sucks" mindset
Wrong. XY-hating starts becoming apparent long after the games was released. For me, many people hate it because XY didn't reach their full potential.
>I never understood why it's so popular to hate on X/Y
morons with inconsistent standards parroting the reddit groupthink.
>xy is bad because it's too easy and has a shit story and references kanto a lot but I simultaneously think platinum which is also too easy and has a shit story and references kanto a lot except in a way that makes the game cancerous to play while also having worse online, worse breeding, worse animations, worse pokemon distribution, fewer puzzles, and no trainer customization is the peak of the series because....it just is
>people hate XY because they weren't tricked into buying the same game twice
ftfy
>>xy is bad
Correct. Why do you think they hit the eject button on gaylos and went on to Alola as quickly as they could? Even Gamefreak hates XY. ONE GAME!
>all those regions SHARTlos lost to
>still does awfully on every poll
gaylosbros...
>crystal is the worst selling pokemon game

>I never understood why it's so popular to hate on X/Y. I'm guessing because of the collective, contrarian "everything new sucks" mindset.
That half your positives are pretty much just for multiplayer says it all, really. All Pokemon games suffer without multiplayer, but some definitely more than others. This is coming from a guy who has a big soft spot for XY for that very reason.
>potentially the most extensive character customization of any pokemon game
Just looking at the female clothing options:
XY - over 200
USUM - 533
SwSh - 620
LA - over 700
XYgays are delusional, anon. This is a very well known fact
I've not played newer games, sorry
As a massive dressing-up homosexual, XY had quality over quantity.
That you are genuinely arguing that USUM and Legends have "better customization" than XY when 90% of everything was fricking recolors and half of it "unisex" outfits is fricking laughable.
I won't comment on swooshie because I didn't ever bother trying it but from what I've seen it still nowhere as good as XY.
No single Pokemon game has yet to equal XY in terms of variety of styles and looks for customization.
>XY
>new
lol it's from a decade ago
point is, people still have a hardon of RBY/GSC/Platinum, HGSS and BW. And then there's sort of a fallout point where ORAS sucks, XY suck, Sun and Moon suck, Brilliant Diamond and Pearl sucks, LGPE sucks, etc..
>RBY
>GSC/HGSS
>Platinum
Kanto, West Kanto, and mountain Kanto.
I mean yeah, they are part of the same country (Japan) unlike Kalos
So if Kalos were set in Japan it would be justified to fill it with 85% Geodude and Ponyta? Thank heavens it's not a Japan based region.
I'd call Sun/Moon divisive rather than "sucks." For as many people speak ill of it, you'll find plenty praising it's handling of characters, plot and the new dex.
XY is one of my favorites. I love Megas as a concept, although it took until SM for them to be implemented right. I think Kalos is the most beautiful game. Beauty radiates from the whole region. Soundtrack is gorgeous. I think its great, and the anime was too.
I have a theory that XY were meant to have a 3rd version or a sequel. RS, DP, BW and XY were all directed by Masuda and they all needed a third version to make them feel "complete".
I feel like there are trace amounts of soul in nearly every gen, except for 8. 5 tried a new story and was clearly Masuda’s baby, 6 tried to push the introduction to 3D (again, love it or hate it) in a lot of novel directions, and 7 tried to shake up the gym challenge. 8 is a win for QoL but feels halfhearted compared to the other divisive entries.
Upon release, aside from some kino multiplayer moments in college, I was pretty lukewarm about it.
Played through it again last year with no Exp Share on, and I had a pretty good time. You're right OP, the game has a lot of flaws, more than most games, but there is still some "SOULLLL" left in there.
This. Galar's base game was the first to be truly devoid of that special spark for me. Even Gen 7 had a bit left, I feel.
I really enjoyed the post game but I think very few have played it
It hit in the feels
Yea, it's terrible that few have played that arc
>XY good
I can't believe we've already reached this point of the nostalgia circle
I used to hate XY for introducing megas, the Exp share, and starting the trend of introducing basically no new Pokémon and diluting them in a sea of old Pokémon, as well as other annoying aspects like the kanto + lucario pandering. But recently I’ve really come around to it, I hate all those things still but everything else is actually pretty great, primarily the route/area design, the graphics, and the non battle music are fricking superb, and the roller skates + ride mons + the sheer variety of biomes change up the pace frequently enough that the game is surprisingly fun to play on a moment to moment basis, it really feels like an adventure and doesn’t hold your hand TOO tightly. Even stuff like story being shitty doesn’t bother me too much because frankly speaking, that’s the norm, gen 5 and 7 were outliers.
6/10 game it’s awesome if you’re in the mood for it and can look past the admittedly major flaws.
Also, I’ve realized the lack of content complaint is a total nothing burger, it has plentiful content, people are just moronic and keep fricking expecting the next Gens first versions to match the previous Gens 3rd versions in content, which has literally never happened and obviously won’t ever happen due the seemingly hard to grasp concept of a finite development time
there's a lot of things i liked about it (some megas, ost, pss was really fun when it was new, some routes had nice visuals) but for every nice thing there's flaws i find too big to ignore (pacing shitting itself around the third gym, dog shit story and motives even for a kodomo rpg, some areas felt like there was more to be planned via event or dlc but never made, trainers and leaders felt too easy though that might be just because of fairy balancing)
everyones taste and priority in games will be different
the biomes changing rapidly made it feel a bit like some cartoony theme park but i guess they've got to shove certain types somewhere...
>diluting them in a sea of old Pokémon
Like Sinnoh? Only 80 Pokemon that are actually new (i.e. the remaining 27 are cross Gen evolutionss/pre-evolutions) and most of those are made rarer than Kanto mons like Geodude, Machop or Zubat and hidden behind some sort of gimmick (e.g. Great Marsh rotations, Honey Trees, and collecting a bunch of Unown, etc.). Unlike Kalos there's not a lot of variety of old mons, but a small group of Kanto Pokemon makes up most of the encounter slots in Sinnoh.
>NO CROSS GENS DON'T COUNT
Discarded
"Sinnoh" Pokemon in Sinnoh
"Sinnoh" Pokemon in Kalos
>why are newly discovered pokemon rare?
Boy am I glad dumbass zoomers like you aren't designing Pokemon games.
If I want Kanto Pokemon I can always play a RBY. I don't need to play Rock Tunnel: The Region.
Yea in old Pokémon games the really good mons were at least rare.
>really good mons were at least rare.
Trade evos are inherently hard to get
If you don't have any friends, sure. But as long as you're a paypig with a DS Lite and a few GBA games, you can obtain Gengar in DPPt without even needing to trade.
Sinnoh Pokémon are way more common in Sinnoh than Kalos Pokémon are in Kalos.
Starly, Bidoof, Kriketune, Buizel, and Shellos lines: Yes.
Pretty much everything else: No.
>What are common encounters in an RPGS
Why are early route mons like Bidoof and Starly and Kanto shitmons still showing up halfway through the game?
See
because there's fricking nothing in the Sinnoh dex, maybe
Fricking lmao, most Sinnoh Pokemon are locked behind shit mechanics like Honey, are trapped in the Great Marsh, are extremely lategame, or are evolutions of past Pokemon. The reason the "generic Sinnoh team" exists is because your selection until Eterna City is limited to like 4 non-Kanto Pokemon
>The reason the "generic Sinnoh team" exists is because your selection until Eterna City is limited to like 4 non-Kanto Pokemon
Yea it’s super based how the game is designed to punish players who don’t bother looking for new team members for more than 3 seconds by only giving them a small handful of options, and saving everything else for players who actually give enough of a frick to try other methods
How are you punished?
The berry farming was kino af. I wish the next game will have a berry dex side quest and will bring back mutations
I do miss being able to sit down. It's such a little thing but man, did it feel weird not being able to do it the next game.
these games have no soul. All of the areas feel empty and barren.
PLAbros...
XY remind me of the set for a stage play, all of the cities/routes/areas look extremely fake and rendered incorrectly. It has the misfortune of not having the soul of the sprite based games or the polish of the later 3D games. PLA has an incredible amount of depth and immersion due to gamefreak better understanding how to design a 3D game area.
I don't see where you're coming from at all. The assets are really high quality, and I had no problems with the use of the camera. Can you explain what you mean by "rendered incorrectly" or fake-looking? It felt like any other chibi style game to me.
>not having the soul of the sprite based games
Kalos Route 17, aka Mamoswine Road
>Can ride Mamoswine
>Can encounter Pokemon in the snow
>Has multiple meandering paths
Sinnoh Route 217
>Can't ride Mamoswine. Can't even obtain Swinub in DP until the postgame.
>Can't encounter Pokemon in the snow.
>Get stuck in the snow, which wastes more time in an already slow game.
>Ice rock exists, but can't be used until the postgame since Eevee (and therefore Glaceon) isn't gifted by Bebe until the postgame of DP and BDSP.
>Can't see anything due to the blizzard.
>Straight line with two patches of grass.
the riding mechanics were so god awful you seriously cannot be touting that as a feature. It was slow and tedious and ultimately pointless since the route didn't even lead anywhere pertinent in the game. Sinnoh route 217 is way more atmospheric and really builds on the immersion of the game as a whole since in the story you're travelling north through the mountain and you emerge in a new higher elevation covered in snow with a huge snow storm. The snow area in Kalos is literally just thrown together and makes no sense in relation to the rest of the map. Do better.
nta but the intention was for you to start in spring and progress through all the seasons through out the course of the game.
that is literally the most moronic headcannon I have ever seen pertaining to XY. Also they literally did that in black and white where each route has a different version for the season. XY has nothing like that, you're just coping.
Laverre City and the surronding area being autumn is a pretty dead giveaway.
>black and white
They did. But it wasn't perfect and you needed to edit the clock on your DS if you wanted certain items (or wait a literal year), so I get why they tried something new.
Slow? Less atmospheric? Than Route 217? What a joke. Route 217 has Machoke, Medicham and Zubat with only two Ice-type Pokemon and is way slower because you get stuck in the snow every few steps.
>>Can't see anything due to the blizzard.
You mean like in real life moron? Based Kinnoh.
>postgamepostgamepostgame
Yes the game doesn't end at the credits and there's plenty of pokemon to get afterwards, we know, where's the flaw?
>All of the areas [subjective] [buzzword] and [buzzword].
get a better argument
you're a homosexual
>a great anime adaptation
The a very subjective opinion. I remember liking it a lot because the XYgays were hyping the frick out of it and "IKU-ZE!". But when SM came out and all the XYgays threw a manbaby shitfit over it I went back to rewatch XY more objectively and... it sucks.
The XY anime is just Pokemon for shonen fans.
It was immensely decorated and colorful. The statues, gardens, paintings and interiors have a-lot of detail for a "chibi" game.
>He's asking for a 3rd game that's just two games combined, instead of asking them to release one game with everything
I hate you morons
Nintendo and TPC are huge israelites so of course they won't release a single game ever again except for oddities like Legends where it's more a proof of concept than anything they expect to sell well.
>Hopefully the remakes essentially serve as everything a proper Pokemon Z should have been.
Anon I...
They should've added the post game battle facilities on OrAs, but they were lazy as frick.
I'm surprised the Battle Factory isn't just a series staple at this point. Of all the different facilities, it stands out as being one of the only ones people like, while also being incredibly easy to implement.
>There are people that lose when playing Pokemon
Lol
Lmao
Every “3D” game is a little different in what makes it special. Some examples:
X&Y: Hands down the best daily playing experience. The region is designed to be played daily in small sessions (like how the clothing shops are different every day). It has great music and an amazing legendary fight (such a smooth transition). Also, I believe the five friends story is full of great moments. It’s a game filled with love.
Sword and Shield base game: Most efficient play through. Can be done in a weekend if you limit your route battles. Level curve is lined up perfectly if you just play the story. Championship fight is kinda moving.
Sun and Moon: Hands down the best complete story in the franchise. If you don’t grind and just play the story, the level curve is solid. Extended cut scenes make it hard to replay. It truly feels like an adventure.
ORAS: Delta episode. I was fortunate enough to play ORAS long after release, so I never saw trailers or other spoilers. Playing it blind was mind blowing.
Black and White 1 and 2. Best played together. Interesting ideas. White got me back into Pokémon in 2020. I never finished it when it came out. Played a fresh save in 2020 and was somehow enthralled in the content. Lots of things to explore. This was also the first time I fought Cynthia (I wiped hard). I think many people (myself included) didn’t appreciate these games upon release. Playing them now, they are likely the best pixel art games.
I haven’t completed my play through of Heart Gold, so I’ll reserve judgment.
PLA: The best single player Pokémon game. The only game where you can catch the entire dex under one ID. You can fly and do Zelda style combat. You can see Pokémon of different sizes. 6 vs 8 battle and other lopsided battles. Crafting. Best shiny hunting game. Massive character customization. PLA is everything I dreamed of as a kid playing Pokémon Red and Ocarina of Time. Only downside is no multiplayer.
