Scientists don't agree on all that much. We argue all the time on how to interpret results. It's best guess a lot of the time. I should have gone into industrial chemistry. It's more pure.

I'm not even old enough to have been alive for the release of the N64 (still had one), but it's downright baffling how ahead of its time the Dreamcast was, how amazing the games were and still are, and how it went about storing user data, given the time of release. My first Dreamcast experience was in 2021, but I wish it was something I got to fully experience back when it was relevant. I am a sucker for those OS/hardware level modes for connectivity.

One word, Playstation. 5th and 6th generation of consoles were a bloodbath. Nintendo barely survived by focusing all their energy into pushing the best possible games they could on N64, people say the N64 was a mistake but being so weird and different is literally what saved Nintendo. Dreamcast actually had good momentum when it was still supported. Ironically, the problem with DC was everything EXCEPT the DC itself. >the flops of the Saturn and 32X beforehand meant SEGA would've needed the DC to sell at an ungodly rate to stay alive in home hardware >Sony went into kill mode when they saw SEGA was an easy target after the Saturn, and a good portion of their pre-launch PS2 marketing went into specifically highlighting aspects that would utterly rugpull the DC (especially DVD playback).
If they wanted to do that right, they'd have entered the portable market very soon after entering the console market. They took too long to take their shot at the Portable King, leaving Nintendo with a VERY comfortable buffer to weather their worst frickups in the console space.

Gone bad probably. They've had 30 years of wear and tear. Your options are to try and hunt down a relatively unused controller, or get replacement pads. I have a few old snes controllers and the quality of d-pad varies quite a bit.

The DC is the ONLY good console Sega ever made and it's because it's basically a home Naomi board so arcade ports were either perfect or superior.
I'm not even old enough to have been alive for the release of the N64 (still had one), but it's downright baffling how ahead of its time the Dreamcast was, how amazing the games were and still are, and how it went about storing user data, given the time of release. My first Dreamcast experience was in 2021, but I wish it was something I got to fully experience back when it was relevant. I am a sucker for those OS/hardware level modes for connectivity.
Well, at least I got to experience StreetPass on the 3DS and Miiverse on the WiiU, right?

One word, Playstation. 5th and 6th generation of consoles were a bloodbath. Nintendo barely survived by focusing all their energy into pushing the best possible games they could on N64, people say the N64 was a mistake but being so weird and different is literally what saved Nintendo. Even not including a disc drive was a genius move because it allowed them to compete on hardware price.
Dreamcast actually had good momentum when it was still supported. Ironically, the problem with DC was everything EXCEPT the DC itself.

If they wanted to do that right, they'd have entered the portable market very soon after entering the console market. They took too long to take their shot at the Portable King, leaving Nintendo with a VERY comfortable buffer to weather their worst frickups in the console space.

Gone bad probably. They've had 30 years of wear and tear. Your options are to try and hunt down a relatively unused controller, or get replacement pads. I have a few old snes controllers and the quality of d-pad varies quite a bit.
