4Kids and their bullshit have had permanent damage on the series I don't know, I guess they didn't want foreigners to learn about Japanese money early on in life for whatever reason
It was always weird to me that lemonade cost 300 dollars and a bike was a million dollars

Now that I think about it, why is a bike 10,000 dollars?

As a kid I thought it was a fictional currency based on yen. I didn't know until this thread that it was always supposed to actually be yen.

I didn't know what yen was. I just thought everything was super expensive in Pokemon. Same goes for Animal Crossing

moronic mutts that only know of the American dollar
there are plenty of worthless dollars around the world
look at Taiwan:
100 TWD = 3.25USD
so 300 bucks lemonade would be 10usd

So was i.
The game made me ask questions, and i ended up learning about currency fluctuations and inflation.
The lottery in those games were so bullshit because the number only changed once a week
you need 5 matching digits to get a master ball which is a 1/65536 chance
assuming you have no friends to trade for other ids, that's 65536 weeks to be at odds (1260 years)
nobody is winning that shit legit. They changed it in later games to once a day but then its still 179 years
that's bullshit, in the GB games it only changes once a week and you need a perfect match for master ball. The only way to increasing odds is to trade for pokemon with different trainer ids
Lets say you managed to trade 10 different people, its still a 1/6553.6 that only changes once a week, roughly 125 years to be at odds. Even in later gens where it changes every day thats 18 years
Nostalgia =/= sovl
Not that youd know midwit
The pokemon franchise has always been a shameless cash grab the whole premise of gotta catch em all then splitting them all into 3 fricking identical games, a predecessor to modern gatch schlock the games are undeniably fun and enjoyable but they have no soul, like a succubus fun and good looking but at the end of the day it has no real soul and exists purely to drain you
Pokémon gold, trading pokémon during lunch break, digging up my GBC during driving school and played through the first 8 gyms while not paying attention.
>Cartridge stabs into your gut
Where's the 'ick
>the 'r is its own separate letter and takes up one tile
this triggers my autism like no other
you're not autistic, you're just a Black person homosexual. KYS subhuman
it's half width
Got some bad news for you.
heh they removed the katakana ヘ and リ cause the hiragana already looks the same, so they could add a couple more random symbols
why did they make up pokedollar instead of just using yen in the localisation?

>Ate jelly donuts for years to become like Brock
>Substituted in onigiri and lost 50 lbs in college
I blame 4kids for this.
wait so there's no kanji at all in this game (other than 円)? do they at least have proper spacing between words?
Every Pokemon game until Black and White had 0 kanji, where it then became a toggleable option. There are spaces between words.
what do you want the apostrophe by itself to take up a full tile and waste precious screen space?
Night time GSC as a kid was somethin' else
Playing the game and experiencing time cycles on the overworld is a unique memory in and of itself.
I miss the feeling of awe when morning came.

Wrong. There is an npc that helps with with the lotto numbers so it's much easier than you think.

Your figure of 1/6553.6 is wrong, it's 1 - (65535/65536)^10, but you somehow got the correct answer. I don't know how
Those Pokemon games were only "good" because it's all we fricking got...
The further pokemon is abstracted from reality the better
Mega Man Battle Network on Gameboy Advance SP. Take me back.
I can't I lost my copy 🙁 so many cool games just disappeared into the ether wtf
The pink SP is my only original 101 as well.
gameboy sp is and will always be the best handheld ever
Even more SOUL.
Nice girl fingers homosexual, you will never be a real woman queer

I agree with gen 1, 3 and beyond, but gen 2 legitimately had soul you could feel the devs passion in gen 2, gen 3 was the most souless

Good times, man.
