Saying you can't change the designs because the justification won't fit with the change is like saying you can't change what you're eating because it won't fit in the plate you have out. It's an insanely dumb train of thought.
Obviously if you're changing the theoretical design you're also changing the one throw-away line that explains it, just like if you tell someone to get you soup instead of steak you don't expect them to bring it on a plate just because you didn't specify that ALSO had to be changed.

Chandelure got into games like Pokken and Pokemon Unite relatively early. Gen 9 got a new spooky candle ghost which feels like something of a spiritual successor.

This is the one I'm using for my ROM hack. Not a Legends game but still Legends-inspired regional forms for the final evolutions based on a country's culture.
i think a fire/flying infernape could happen, it fits with the sun wukong theming assuming we'll ever get a dual type that isn't dark, ghost, or fighting again with a rare chance of fairy or psychic, which i'm starting to doubt.
