Space exploration

Since Starfield doesn't have space exploration at all, what are some good games that have it?

What do you even explore in space? Space pretty much refers to the space between things where there's nothing

      In space I'm exploring space.

You can do that in starfield though

as someone who enjoyed starfield, space exploration is the worst thing in the game and it's awful, and the fact that people are pretending otherwise is actually pissing me off

which is twice as bad since space exploration is meant to be the entire point of the game and it has the least amount of effort

i cannot fricking understand how starfield didn't get clowned on 10x harder than cyberpunk ever did.

because normies eat up bethesdaslop like it's the most delicious thing.
same reason they could release skyrim, skyrim SE, Skyrim LE, Skyrim AE, Skyrim VR, etc. over the course of ten years or more

      1. Exploration should directly lead to expansion. There should be mechanics that show discovery leads to exploitation.

      2. Aliens civilizations, past and present. A massive universe of politics and conflict can be unraveled by including aliens. Mass Effect sort of had this, post first-contact, as species interact.

Tomb worlds of dead civilizations harbor mysteries and horrors. What took them down, and are you safe to walk where they once did?

      3. It's about the journey, not the destination. Dynamic companions with actual personalities could make for interesting stories/dilemmas.

It all boils down to difficulty of implementation by the game developers. There have been games that come close, but are fundamentally flawed. They relied on procedurally generated content, but did not add depth to that generated content. Stellaris is probably the best space exploration game, but even it has limitations.

      How is ED currently?
I have seen mixed reviews and concluded not to buy but not entirely sure still.

Base game is good for its price, but DLC fricked up moany thing giving features no one asked.

I recommend buy a base game and avoid dlc.
Also VR is this game is really fricking good and runs pretty well

For what it tries to be, it's pretty nice.
I once tried it on kb+m, which sucked ass, but recently I discovered that it works with my HOTAS, which makes it infinitely more fun.
I like the fact that you can frick off in singleplayer if you have enough of griefing autists.
The DLC seems bugged as frick, but it still mogs starfield at every corner.

One thing that stands out for me is that it doesn't hold your hand. Sure, there is a basic tutorial that explains how to fly a ship and (in dlc) how to walk around and do basic stuff, but that's it. No forced tutorial on stealth, no pop ups "USE W TO WALK FORWARD, YA DINGUS". I find myself often thinking "wait, how the frick does this work"
It took me three days to figure out that "technician" is not a class that shows up when you scan an NPC, like Researcher or Security or what, but refers to NPCs it a specific type of settlements

Singleplayer mode DOES get repetetive after a while tho, and it can be pretty annoying to start a tourist mission, only to find that it targets are over 200LY away.

Seconding Freelancer. It's derided because LMAO solar systems are 10 km2 and planets are like tiny pebbles, but the amount of exploration in that game is insane. There are secret (pirate) bases and secret routes in every single solar system, a dozen secret systems, two secret factions with their own system, and lore up that wazoo for every single one of them (even if the lore is only LMAO eco terrorists vs British norf in space).

Also two super dupper secrets alien system which are more easter eggs than anything.

It's one of the the only game where you can say frick it to civilization, be forbidden from using ALL the hypergates of every single nation, be actively hunted by the military, and still comfortably navigate from one side of the map to the other using smuggler routes, wormholes and pirate bases.

X3/X4 are also very good at exploration, but more hardcore and more autistic.

The only games that have actual space exploration are ED and SC.

There is also X4 foundations but there is only one planet per system and you can't land on them. Plenty of empty stations to land on though.

And interplanet or interstellar travel is functionally not that different. Those who shit on Starfield don't know how Elite works.

Don't waste your time with it. Especially if you want exploration.
If your temptation is too great, don't put in any more than the minimum price of admission.

The honeymoon period is there and it's strong but once it wears off you realize how bad it is the bugs are and see the glacial rate they're developing things at you'll drop it like a hot shit. My only hope for you in that time is you're smart enough to not spend any more money on it.
