It was problematic. Let me break this down simply so you 4chuds can understand.
1. Infringed on a company's IP
2. it was extremely sexist
3. Toxic male power fantasies
3. violence towards women
4. there was no LGBTQ+ representation
5. everyone was a white man
6. rampant homophobia
7. not funny
It's a youtube video. That title card was just designed to look reminiscent of the old black and white heavy metal style of early 40k since that's a major inspiration for it.
Pretty funny, little rick and morty for my taste but at least entertaining. Good timing with the bits.
Appreciated the gag at the end with a hazbin hotel demon saying "there's tons of cartoons for unstable teenaged girls on the internet! what about mentally unstable teenaged boys??? and 30 year old men?"
DESU? I'm just glad we have a lot of new animation projects coming out right now. Internets entertaining again for the first time in what feels like years. Its been too long.
It was an entertaining one minute flash cartoon from the early 00s that could have stood on its own, but then stretched out to a full 14 minutes of Rick and Morty B plot style writing. Its like the creators didn't get their own joke really
It was ok. Maybe better than some of their other material since even though it's a clear pastiche of an existing property, unlike their straight up parody stuff it actually took some creative input of their own.
Just waiting for someone to put uncensored alien queen breasts on the internet and then moving on.
I'm talking in a very basic sense, obviously the marines are still marines but they had to make conscious decisions of, "how do we ape the classic design of a space marine, with some alterations for comedic effect?" instead of, as they did in their series where black templars invade furry planets, just... drawing a literal space marine.
I liked it but it wasn't good enough a product to make the quip it did at TADC or Hazbin.
Both of those shows are comedic but seem to be trying to take themselves semi-seriously with a real plot and have neat art. Space King looks like a generic adult comedy cartoon and doesn't have any ambitions of telling a more meaningful story. It also makes the line about not wanting to compromise their artistic vision by selling out and that they fill a previously unfulfilled, original niche kinda ironic, but maybe that was just a finishing joke I took at face value.
Hazbin Hotel is basically the Family Guy to Space King's American Dad. Despite being much shallower and shorter, Space King drills its point of space military series like 40k being aimed at stunted manchildren far better than Hazbin Hotel's does, since it tries but ultimately fails to decisively answer its own message regarding repentance. And sometimes short and stupid is better than long and stupid.
hazbin is muddied and botched but I don't know, the ending pretty much said redemption could happen and maybe there will be a happy ending
space king was nice but its not notably different from anything else by flashgitz or just most cynical comedy cartoons so the dig about maintaining artistic integrity combo'd with e-begging was the funniest part of the whole thing
>the ending pretty much said redemption could happen
It implies some people can be redeemed, but there is a solid underlining notion that some people (Valentino, Alastor) are beyond saving or not worth it. The songs are pretty decent though.
Between Hazbin and Space King, I'd take Hazbin. At least it felt like it was trying to be it's own thing, had interesting moments and was trying to be internally consistent.
To be fair, in the comment that could be considered most directed to those two series, they did insult themselves twice. Not even just in the same scene, in the very same sentence. It could reasonably be said to be a potshot at their own show moreso than at Hazbin or TADC.
Good Comedies are not just only a stream of jokes. They have something to beyond humour to hold it together, give context to the jokes and be there when the Jokes fail to land.
>Good Comedies are not just only a stream of jokes.
Wrong. Good comedy has an insane amount of joke per minute ratio while also chugging along a plot that doesn't have to be all that inspired.
Other mentions are Hot Shots! or police academy. Or old Simpsons episodes if we want to talk animation. There is barely a scene that doesn't try to get a laugh out of you.
Space king does it too even if not all the jokes land but thats to be expected. It's a very solid attempt.
Do you seriously buy a movie with a pilot for a YouTube series? Do you realize how pretentious you are?

I also think it's super-weird to point to Simon Pegg movies as examples of good comedy. They're on the far edge of comedy-trying-not-to-be-comedy. It's like he really just wants to write a movie for the 70s, kind of like Tarantino, except Tarantino can do it with a straight face and Pegg can't.
>doesn't have any ambitions of telling a more meaningful story.
Thank god for that. I can live without another gay relationship drama, and the circus thing is just a stream of random nonsense that can't commit to a single proper joke.
There will be stretches where I enjoy some element or other, then something will happen that turns me incredibly off, and I have the uncomfortable feeling that someone somewhere is going YASS QUEEN SLAY at those bits I specifically dislike.
It has a slightly propagandistic feel to it; it's easy to invent upsetting fictional unfairness and then rail against it.
I was entertained. Not the funniest thing I've seen, but it was nice to have comedy that was aimed at my teenage self rather than, y'know, today's comedy.
Creative defunct. The authors seem to be trapped in a Groundhog day as they act like amateur teenager animators that did just found about Newgrounds and Flash. The abundance of toilet humor and the absolute lack of awareness of the franchise they are parodying is satire makes it feel like a Snake Oil Vendor throwing a cash grab into the normie masses.
>Creative defunct. The authors seem to be trapped in a Groundhog day as they act like amateur teenager animators that did just found about Newgrounds and Flash.
That’s what I like about them and they never change. They were the same 10 years ago.
best part of growing up is no longer fearing being perceived as a child. most of what we consider "mature adult stuff" is all the group thing conformity of teenage years. I wouldn't expect you or most people to get it, since you spent your adolescence in a system designed to make whle countries populace compliant line soldiers and subserviant manual factory workers.
I liked it. It wasn't stellar and could've been cut down by a few minutes, but the jokes were okay and the animation wasn't terrible. I'll definitely forget about it for a few years, see the alien queen's uncensored fat breasts, and then probably watch it again. They'll hopefully get to the Sisters of Battle or Eldar by then.
What if (in Season 2), we're shown that bit about the Spess Muhreen chucking little girls into what looks like an active volcano... but then pan down into the "lava" to find that it is the first step in some sort of selection/purification/indoctrination/assimilation program to create super-powerful female "troops" for some sort of arguably non-derivative combination Sisters-of-Battle & Psykers, like combination Benegesserate Witches from DUNE crossed with Amazon Nuns, or whatever fun appeal-to-wokeness gets shoehorned in after these guys get traction and the vampires get their filthy claws into it somehow.
I like it.
It's a funny parody cartoon and doesn't take itself seriously, while also giving great oldhammer vibes that post 2016 40k doesn't really give so much.
It's not a work of art, but it's got good, moronic vibes because of it.
To vidya crosspost, 40K is to SPACE KING what Halo is to Helldivers.
I imagine they got a polite C&D from GW, and they wanted to do something like this anyway. I think you can do "inspired by but not a complete ripoff" of something. They want to creatively go a certain direction they know they could not if they tried to keep within the original ip to some degree.
I just watch the pilot and and definitely see the inspiration, but also that its trying to be its own thing and i want to see more.
>I imagine they got a polite C&D from GW
that's exactly what I mean, it just felt like a "legally distinct" 40K made out of spite rather than creative drive.
still pretty funny though.
I enjoyed how it almost, almost poked fun at 40k being about daddy issue man babies afraid of girls. But the show's not ready to admit that to itself just yet.
>But the show's not ready to admit that to itself just yet.
I dont think its trying to hide it. Also it would be lame if they did. The point is to act as though it's not but it obviously is, and that's what's funny.
here's the thing, its been said that this mocks 40k, but i dont think it is.
like their black templar v furry videos. Those dont mock 40k. This doesnt seem to either. This is more of the good silliness of 40k magnified, and you can do that in a humorous way without mocking it.
the problem is a lot of people wrongly think mocking=pardody, when that's not necessarily always the case.
That was my feeling too. This felt more like someone trying to recreate the silliness of older 40k because modern GW has gone in such a serious direction with it.
Also, I appreciate how nothing has been explained yet, which gives me the same kind of mysterious feeling as I had as a kid flipping through the SM codex for the first time. I hope the series is successful and we can get more.

at the risk of sounding like a shill, i did join the patreon at the $2 level just because i want to see more.
They did say in a previous podcast that if space king gets 300k views then they will at least continue it in the form of shorts. its sitting at 1.7m right now so that looks good.

300k? That seems like a low bar for them. They get over 1m regularly.

they generally get over 1m after a few months. this sorta blew up. They judge based on how well it initially does. this got over 1m over the weekend alone

The word you're both looking for is "pastiche".
Space King isn't a parody, it's a pastiche of 40k. The difference is that while a parody caricatures the subject matter to make its flaws more prominent, a pastiche joshing in a good-natured way, banter between friends, which exaggerates and hyperbolises out of fondness and excitement.
>captcha: maaa
Yes mom, 40kids are still here.

it is absolutely not a pastiche
a pastiche is meant to copy the original style. you're mimicking the person who wrote the original thing. if it's done correctly, it would be difficult to tell the pastiche from the original.
no one is confusing this for 40k. it's a parody.

That's a bullshit definition of 'pastiche'. That's the kind of thinking that comes from people insisting that a corporate entity doesn't just own an IP, it owns the entire genre surrounding the IP.
A bunch of chucklefricks from Nottingham weren't the only people in the entire universe to ever see an issue of Metal Hurlant or 2000AD, and the world needs to stop pretending otherwise.
Shit take. Touch grass.

It had some solid jokes and I like the style, but dogshit dialogue and gay boring characters. It's the pilot though so cut it some slack.
space king surrounded by space b***hes
Still not sure if this guy is Space King or Not!Sanguinius, the statue talked to the captain about "finding Space King" so that makes me think Not!Sanguinius.
The painting IS of space king. The point is the painting is not talking to them, but their ego talking to them. Its funny that it told the captain he should be finding space king because that's probably what the captain is always telling others.
Its a reflection of how they see themselves and they use space king to affirm it.
Which is why the painting was telling the apothecary that he's a piece of shit, because thats how he sees himself
>it's that all you want from me space king? >Still not sure if this guy is Space King
life must be hard when you have ADHD
>talks to Space King about finding Space King
Did this third person shit not confuse you? Maybe I'm just autistic. Also Space King's statue at the end didn't have wings.
going into the mystery of the setting, it is an interesting idea. there's speculation that when a holy globule is implanted the applicant becomes the person, not just takes their genes. so the characters that die in this episode we will likely see in the next in a new applicants body. sort of hinted at here
I imagine they got a polite C&D from GW, and they wanted to do something like this anyway. I think you can do "inspired by but not a complete ripoff" of something. They want to creatively go a certain direction they know they could not if they tried to keep within the original ip to some degree.

that shows profile info of the star defender's globules
now begs the question, what are they going to do with the extra spare globule after the alien queen ate one.

>now begs the question, what are they going to do with the extra spare globule after the alien queen ate one.
Easy.
One globule regenerates the other via mitosis with them always having two.
This is why you need two. In case one gets destroyed corrupted or damaged
>a holy globule is implanted the applicant becomes the person,
Probably.
Which means they are functionally immortal so long as their globules get extracted.

I just wonder how they make more marines. Maybe they make star defender globules out of testicles they take from the fresh recruits.
The jokes-per-minute ratio was pretty bad. It was still mostly enjoyable, but it loses steam really quickly after they go to the moon to find the thing and then it just kinda drags ass to the end.
I'm actually quite convinced that this is terrible for GW. People love the idea of a diligently-excessive space opera setting that contains every fantasy and sci-fi trope, and they pour that love onto GW because there's no real competition, but there's no real reason for there to be no competition. Almost anyone can write this shit but most people have too much taste. So this will be one of those situations where it starts out as blatant parody, then grows into something people are actually passionate about, inspiring more knock-offs which will begin from a less satirical place as the genre fills out.
It was alright, about what I expected based on the name and the people who made it. The translator device only translating screams because it was painfully invasive was kinda funny.
lol, seriously. Everyone here has a stick up their ass. I found the animation alright but people seem offended at the Newgrounds level humor. Maybe people on here are just getting too old, so I guess it's to be expected
Honestly kind of cringe. I might have liked it like 15 years ago, but this is like going back and watching something you thought was hilarious in highschool and realizing how fricking tasteless and lame it is now that you are not young and easily impressive by something mildly transgressive.
the difference to me is whether something is trying to be cynical and humorous, or fun and humorous
stuff like rick and morty, hasbin, helluva, etc are all leaning hard into the cynicism and nihilism. i thought they were funny at first, but now im sick of it.
This is just goofy fun, trying to play itself off as an homage to what inspired it. So its actually refreshing to watch space king, whereas i couldnt get 3 episodes into hasbin without wanting to blow my brains out because its all the same cynical bullshit.
but that's the whole point, it's supposed to be the essence of cringe. it still eludes me who would pay to see a pair of cartoon breasts though, must be a zoomer thing
Everyone in this thread is a cringe xenos loving homosexual.
>Punching an alien that can only communicate in warbles while shouting "WHERE IS THE ARTIFACT" got me good. >They could have followed up with a "CURSE YOUR PERFIDIOUS TONGUE" gag, but impaling him through the skull with the translator so it screams in agony works too.
I still have my old 4th edition space marine codex which features that artwork.
I want to go back, bros. Modern 40k doesnt bring me back. Space king did a little.
lmao, look at that fist, this franchise is hilarious.
that explains the inorganic marketing

You know, just when I begin to think that I've outgrown edgy Newgrounds-style humor (having replaced it with edgy seriousness) something like this comes along and reminds me of why I spent my formative years on that website in the first place.
Warhammer 40k is already over the top heavy metal nonsense where Starship Troopers, wienerney Mushroom Men and Robo-Egyptians kick Dino-Bugs and Space Satan in the Balls which can never the less play itself straight. Playing up the over the top violence angle and bleakness does not really do much more with that.
It doesn't have to, over-the-top is good and people want more of it, they don't have to do anything new they just have to do GW's job better than GW.
Also this will drastically complicated the argument about whether or not Warhammer counts as parody, I look forward to it.
I always thought "pastiche" was the right word for 40k because it steals everything from everywhere and plays it straight, but now people are describing Space King as a pastiche, with "pastiche" meaning "good-natured parody". I don't think you can deny that Space King is a parody, but people still will, because they think "parody" implies scorn.
>but now people are describing Space King as a pastiche, with "pastiche" meaning "good-natured parody"
That's how I always understood the difference between the two terms. Both make exaggerated caricatures of another title, but whereas the parody does it as a form of criticism, to make the flaws more prominent and obvious, a pastiche does it as an expression of enthusiasm, hyperbolising the original's key features. I really don't see why a pastiche must closely resembles the original title - we already have words for that, simply 'imitation' or 'copy'.
A parody makes fun of the parts that are funny, and exaggerates them to be more funny, what counts as a "flaw" vs what counts as a "key feature" is totally up to you, the word "parody" has no implications in that regard. Eastman and Laird both describe TMNT as a parody of popular comics, but they both loved popular comics and stress that it was made with love.
I appreciate the difference between something made with enthusiasm with love for the original vs something made with scorn or made from behind a layer of irony, but there isn't a good word for that distinction, they're both parody. And in many cases the second guy is just the first guy but with less self-awareness, afraid to admit that he loves the original, hiding behind the idea of parody so that he can't be accused of liking anything.
thats right. that would be the last one chestnut harvested. also thats the guy where we just saw him taken from earth and having those same holy globules inserted
so we saw this particular star defender's entire life cycle start and end in one 17 minute episode. His whole journey
The opposite. Whilst getting your nuts sucked out would be painful, it was at least a quick process. By contrast that is highly preferable to the sort of shit a kid would go through in your average Chapter recruitment process before even getting to the horrific surgeries to alter their body. Some of which involve being operated on whilst fully cognisant the whole time.

it also depends on the chapter. most chapters they go to a world and get volunteers, boys who want to become the angels of the emperor
some chapters, however, go to worlds and get "volunteers"
Even where it is voluntary the process of selection is usually some degree of fricked. And where it is less fricked, it is usually because the nature of the world the applicants come from is already deadly enough to winnow the number of applicants down to just the proven survivors the Chapter wants.

I think Salamanders skip the mandatory brainwashing
I liked it. Very nostalgic. I'm glad that some people are still making this style of content, cringe as it is, in $current_year. Made me remember being a young teenager and seeing the Space Hulk cartoon they did, right when I was getting into warhammer for the first time. Is it particularly funny, or good? No, but it's a lovable vestige of better times, an atavism, a coelacanth that swam straight from 2014 newgrounds into the modern youtube environ. Good for them.

I don't understand the extreme neurosis that so many people have about "advertising" and "shilling".
Why is it bad to spread things that you like to other people? People use "shill" here as if it's the worst possible sin for a person to commit. Call people every name under the sun and spam nonsense all you want, but don't you dare talk positively o- err, "shill" anything!
Glad to see it! Excited for the next one. Hope it improves though, because the pilot had that same pilot slowness they all do, and they'll need to step it up a bit.
I like it, as I said people take stuff way too seriously half the time, it's almost as if their fandom was their entire identity
Space king is fine, I hope the next episode has more jokes and ramps the ridiculousness of this series, give me some not Orks and not chaos marines to laugh at
40kg drones hates it because they want it to be an actual 40k cartoon that follows the source material more, rather than try to be its own legally distinct thing.
Vivsieslop troons hate it because the ending ad made fun of them
Wasn't there an animation recently about a Space Marine, Sister of Battle, a few refugees trapped in a city under attack by some Necrons? There was an other one where it was some Tau trying to fight space marines or something like that, only to be wiped out by Eldar.
I haven't watched flash gitz in a decade and the small bits of the stuff that has been thrust in front of me has not given me any desire to change course
>Started funnily >turned into le epik alien mommy boob joke but 20 years after "death by snu snu" was funny, not great >no real plot to carry the "jokes" along >patreon uncensored version begging for money from neckbeards who have hentai on their MtG card sleeves
Eh, could have been better. Wouldn't show it to my mates.
>patreon uncensored version begging for money from neckbeards who have hentai on their MtG card sleeves
Jup, that was weak. >we want to create this not hindered by politics
but also >give us money to check out the uncensored version of the mild ironic fanservice on the female alien caricature voiced by a dude doing a shrill voice because this is already too risky for us
>patreon uncensored version begging for money from neckbeards who have hentai on their MtG card sleeves
Jup, that was weak. >we want to create this not hindered by politics
but also >give us money to check out the uncensored version of the mild ironic fanservice on the female alien caricature voiced by a dude doing a shrill voice because this is already too risky for us
This.
I'll watch the next one but I would never recommend it to anyone I know
They are right, that there needs to be more stuff for >unstable teenage boys and 30 year old men
but I don't think >Rick & Marty but Space Marines
is really filling that small (gigantic entertainment industries funding) niche (that was forcibly turned into an untapped market for moronic reasons), more so than it fills the Rick & Morty niche. Maybe they genuinely believe they are creating something without being afraid of stepping on the toes of the usual crowd, but all I see is them pre-emptively hiding all their edge and lewd behind thirty layers of irony in case they do, using a style that has already proven safe mass appeal.
Loved it. Especially the fact that it literally just sounds and plays out like a Black Library shlock novel, but with all the names and branding replaced with exagerated copies of the actual WH40k stuff.
Reminds me Rogue Trader and first eiditions of 40k
It felt like they read the Angry Marines article on 1dGanker then decided to do that, but legally distinct, still thinking it's laugh out loud hilarious over a decade on, and somehow lost what the original joke even was in the process.
Knows it's audience, I guess. Meh/10,
>It felt like they read the Angry Marines article on 1dGanker then decided to do that ... still thinking it's laugh out loud hilarious over a decade on, and somehow lost what the original joke even was in the process.
Which explains why /tg/ eats it up and asks for seconds, majority of current day posters got here through that exact same process.
There's nothing wrong with laughing at the classics, they're classics for a reason, if a newbie gets here that way more power to them. But if you've been doing 40k shit for over a decade and you're still at "lol titty aliens and angry marines, kill the furries" it's not that it's sad because you didn't grow up, it's sad because it means you never found new material. It's stagnancy, it's the fricking death of personal development and new experiences. Which is doubly sad for what are - regardless of all else - at least somewhat talented artists.
What upsets me a little is that Flash Gitz does have potential; I felt the Furry series really had some genuinely fresh presentation of old ideas (the horror planet, the Chaotic interrogation etc). Even this latest one had (I felt) a genuinely funny reversal of the 40K idea of Space Marines being a rare product of decades of training only the most elite humans.
The issue here is with the staying power; the vast bulk of the episode is just bad character comedy with stupid voices and vage 40K references.
tbf, it's probably a side effect of pilot syndrome. The first episodes of everything tend to be pretty weak as the focus is getting a proof of concept to exist, finding the workflow, and introducing the setting. TTS didn't come out the gate swinging like it later would, for instance.
Yea i cant say i have ever heard of a show having a pilot/first episode thats better than the ones after. Shows degrading between seasons, sure but not the pilot.
The first like 10 episodes of TTS are the best, because it was a way of poking fun at the setting and discussing lore elements. After that it became bad fanfiction.
This is why the Voxcast are some of the best content they put out. It's going back to the roots of examining a bit of lore through a funny lens.

Good to see I am not alone with this opinion of TTS. That said I think that scene with Fabricator General arguing was 10/10 best piece of animated fun I saw il long long time.
alright fine, I forced myself to watch it
I was stone-faced through the whole thing. The only exception was near the end when the medic-type was extracting the thingys and the little device musically spurts out "praise be to space king" or whatever it says. I let out a tiny but legitimate chuckle in response to that. But I didn't laugh or even smile at anything else.

I don't know if the rest of you guys do this, but I don't spend more than half a second looking at the shitty opinions on here unless there is something to your post that indicates that it MUST be looked at.
It was alright yeah but to be honest the first third was good and the rest was meh. Everything up to the geno-bomb was fun and everything else felt a bit tired. Especially the dialogue and the weird boob stuff. The more original they got the worse it was
I think the dated skit style humor really captured the essence of being an underage b& playing 40k in middle school. I don't think that it was made for hormonal teenage boys, it was made for 30 year old men who were basically exactly me growing up at pretty much the exact same time. I liked it but I'm hesitant to concede it's good because it's targeted DIRECTLY at me.
We dont know the names of the legions. but as a whole theyre called star defenders.
the alien queen referred to them as star defenders. she only knows their kind as the space king's star defenders because they nearly eradicated her race millennia ago
The giant skull dude refers to the guys deployed on the planet as "the entire Star Defenders legion", so I don't think that's supposed to be the generic term for them.
It was fun untill capitan turned radio on, it shoudl have ended there. After that it got progressively cringe. Overall not bad but short form works better.
True but they can be quite entertaining even if they're not really funny. If they wanted to make a serious cartoon then they probably could tbqh. Subject joke aside this one was actually quite well made.
It was mediocre as shit. I hope the people pushing it so hard here are teenagers or young adults because if you still giggle at this shit past twenty-two you’re a bonafide man child. I’d compare it to Rick and Morty or family guy, but the jokes didn’t even reach either of those in terms of quality and that is really saying something. >le 40K thing but exaggerated even more >le booby monster voiced by a man >they all le die at the end
This is legitimately the kind of newgrounds shit I watched at age thirteen with my friends, but instead of teenagers enjoying this kind of stuff now, it’s thirty something’s who never developed taste beyond what they had as minors. The fact that this is what’s breaking into the mainstream when they’ve actually had funnier videos is kind of sad, tbh. But I guess referencing slop without actually making fun of it gets you farther than actually parodying stuff does.
I’m more of a man than you’ll ever be. An insecure fanboy shilling a YouTube cartoon for free and insulting anybody who criticizes it is basically one step away from being an unironic cuckold.
It was aight. I laughed. I ain't paying to see alien breasts when I can get 'em for free.
I enjoyed the rampant slaughter of not-tau, they deserved what they got. Will at least check out episode 2 when it drops.
because it has to be stabbed into the brain of the subject, rendering them unable to answer any questions or saying anything other than painful screaming
buy an ad
I agree. GW should be buying ads with all these shills on the site.
No. Humor outdated by about 10 years. It was like bad Robot Chicken.
Yes, that's saying something.
There hasn't been any humour in ten years, so it's no wonder.
What is contemporary humour to you?
Rick and Morty
I don't watch current year cartoons. But I know a Metalocalypse ripoff when I see it.
and more Metalocalypse stuff is a bad thing?
It was problematic. Let me break this down simply so you 4chuds can understand.
1. Infringed on a company's IP
2. it was extremely sexist
3. Toxic male power fantasies
3. violence towards women
4. there was no LGBTQ+ representation
5. everyone was a white man
6. rampant homophobia
7. not funny
up voted
>no LGBTQ+ representation
What are you talking about? Hatemonger was gay. Did you even watch the show?
No he's not! He just hates aliens.
And breasts, which is pretty gay.
why do people make posts like this where it's like a parody but they didn't actually try to make it funny
Kinda pathetic this is all those guys are going now
Yes.
.pdf?
It's a youtube video. That title card was just designed to look reminiscent of the old black and white heavy metal style of early 40k since that's a major inspiration for it.
No, I prefer Wan King
Pretty funny, little rick and morty for my taste but at least entertaining. Good timing with the bits.
Appreciated the gag at the end with a hazbin hotel demon saying "there's tons of cartoons for unstable teenaged girls on the internet! what about mentally unstable teenaged boys??? and 30 year old men?"
DESU? I'm just glad we have a lot of new animation projects coming out right now. Internets entertaining again for the first time in what feels like years. Its been too long.
Yeah, the gag at the end was the best part. The whole thing wasn’t bad though, reminds me of newgrounds shorts
Same, it was basically a Newgrounds short stretched to it's utmost
I loved the extractor singing praise be the space king after each globule extraction, it was just dumb enough to make me laugh
I enjoyed that too. It's like they were talking to me.
>flashgitz
Ganker is an 18+ website
If you were nine years old when you watched Racist Mario you'd be old enough to post on Ganker now
It was an entertaining one minute flash cartoon from the early 00s that could have stood on its own, but then stretched out to a full 14 minutes of Rick and Morty B plot style writing.
Just saw it on kemono and the breasts weren't really worth it.
>Just saw it on kemono
How?
I'm talking in a very basic sense, obviously the marines are still marines but they had to make conscious decisions of, "how do we ape the classic design of a space marine, with some alterations for comedic effect?" instead of, as they did in their series where black templars invade furry planets, just... drawing a literal space marine.
I don't even know what that is.
My favorite part is the little hymn that the geneseed vaccum did after absorbing balls.
>Both of those shows are comedic
TADC could have fooled me. I haven't watched Hazbin.
Do you seriously buy a movie with a pilot for a YouTube series? Do you realize how pretentious you are?
u wot
Are you seriously comparing a movie with a pilot to a YouTube series? Do you realize how pretentious you are?
And there are comedic videos on youtube which are more than just joke after joke. That's not pretense, that's just stating a basic fact.
Yes, there are all types of YouTube videos. It doesn't matter, this is a parody.
>Old Simpsons
>Police Academy
I also think it's super-weird to point to Simon Pegg movies as examples of good comedy. They're on the far edge of comedy-trying-not-to-be-comedy. It's like he really just wants to write a movie for the 70s, kind of like Tarantino, except Tarantino can do it with a straight face and Pegg can't.
you need to have your free speech license taken away
>I liked it but it wasn't good enough a product to make the quip it did at TADC or Hazbin.
That was the funniest joke in the whole thing.
>doesn't have any ambitions of telling a more meaningful story.
Thank god for that. I can live without another gay relationship drama, and the circus thing is just a stream of random nonsense that can't commit to a single proper joke.
do you actually like hazbin? lol
Yeah I thought hazbin and tadc were neat though I didn't like one part of hazbin's ending.
I liked it, it's like watching the 1°e space marines.
>I haven't matured a day for ten years
Manchild detected
>He says, clinging to his £200 chess piece
best part of growing up is no longer fearing being perceived as a child. most of what we consider "mature adult stuff" is all the group thing conformity of teenage years. I wouldn't expect you or most people to get it, since you spent your adolescence in a system designed to make whle countries populace compliant line soldiers and subserviant manual factory workers.
in other words, flashgitz won
Which is a shame, because the Templars vs Furries stuff indicated they "get" actual 40K very deeply.
SOMEONE PLEASE POST A LOOPED ANIMATED GIF OF THE SPACE MARINE CHUCKING BAGLOADS OF LITTLE GIRLS INTO A VOLCANO!
>exploitable
best I can do is a not looped webm
flashgitz needs to release a loop of that, because its prime for use on here
Waste of little girls tbh they could've been made into members of the Female Siblings of Combat
why would you want the siblings of coombait
I'd still watch it.
THANK YOU, BROTHER, AND PRAISE SPACE KING!
Here you go, ya gitz
>moronic kids passing by the 40k mural outside the lasertag place will point at it and shout "SPACE KING!!!"
Many Keks
The first minute or so, the Space Marine "recruitment", exceeded my expectations; the rest was not worth my time.
I liked the big skull guy
I did. It's not groundbreaking but I want to see more.
I liked the breasts l wish tyranids had breasts
This is what milliputt and Greenstuff are for anon.
>t.guy with compulsion to make a nid model now.
it was alright, I just wish they would stick to parodies if they are gonna rip off so much shit.
The show is essentially angry marines the show.
the problem with mocking 40k is there's a good chance it's already actually happened somewhere in the lore
here's the thing, its been said that this mocks 40k, but i dont think it is.
like their black templar v furry videos.
>That's a bullshit definition of 'pastiche'. That's the kind of thinking that comes from people insisting that a corporate entity doesn't just own an IP, it owns the entire genre surrounding the IP.
What?
40k is parody you cant do it twice.
>40k is parody
moron.
>40k isn't parody
Double moron.
true he is being a bit too polite when it's really shameless ripoff of various 2000AD comics such as nemesis the warlock and judge dredd
Im gonna give your mom the pastiche of a lifetime, and then im gonna make you eat it out of her
Yes. That a good way to interpret it. Although I do enjoy how it clearly is making some 40k fans seethe.
space king surrounded by space b***hes
I just noticed the soggy elbows at the top. Hood touch
i just realized they call him chestnut because he keeps the holy globulus at his chest
It had some solid jokes and I like the style, but dogshit dialogue and gay boring characters. It's the pilot though so cut it some slack.
Which is why the painting was telling the apothecary that he's a piece of shit, because thats how he sees himself
>talks to Space King about finding Space King
Did this third person shit not confuse you? Maybe I'm just autistic. Also Space King's statue at the end didn't have wings.
Space king referring to himself as space king, especially through the thoughts of a mentally adolescent musclebound brute works.
Also he doesnt need to have wings because hes not a not-sanguinius. Some depictions show him having wings, but not all, likely.
I like that bit because it showed a bit about the implanted memories have all given them similar mental quirks.
going into the mystery of the setting, it is an interesting idea. there's speculation that when a holy globule is implanted the applicant becomes the person, not just takes their genes. so the characters that die in this episode we will likely see in the next in a new applicants body. sort of hinted at here
that shows profile info of the star defender's globules
now begs the question, what are they going to do with the extra spare globule after the alien queen ate one.
>now begs the question, what are they going to do with the extra spare globule after the alien queen ate one.
Maybe they make star defender globules out of testicles they take from the fresh recruits.
>it's that all you want from me space king?
>Still not sure if this guy is Space King
life must be hard when you have ADHD
The jokes-per-minute ratio was pretty bad. It was still mostly enjoyable, but it loses steam really quickly after they go to the moon to find the thing and then it just kinda drags ass to the end.
pic related was my reaction
Shit taste
It was ok but not up to the same standards as their 40k stuff
I'm actually quite convinced that this is terrible for GW. People love the idea of a diligently-excessive space opera setting that contains every fantasy and sci-fi trope, and they pour that love onto GW because there's no real competition, but there's no real reason for there to be no competition. Almost anyone can write this shit but most people have too much taste. So this will be one of those situations where it starts out as blatant parody, then grows into something people are actually passionate about, inspiring more knock-offs which will begin from a less satirical place as the genre fills out.
i dont think gw is actually going to lose any sleep over this at all, but i am still glad its being done
Yes
Cringe, Flashgitz is a homosexual.
It was alright, about what I expected based on the name and the people who made it. The translator device only translating screams because it was painfully invasive was kinda funny.
I CLAPPED WHEN I SAW THE THING I KNEW, AND I RUSHED TO PATREON TO SEE THE UNCENSORED ALIEN BOOBS! IT WAS VERY COOL!
/40kg/ says i cant like this show
sorry guys. we cant hang out.
lol, seriously. Everyone here has a stick up their ass. I found the animation alright but people seem offended at the Newgrounds level humor. Maybe people on here are just getting too old, so I guess it's to be expected
only the battle segment and the final advertising
What's cynical about hazbin
Helluva and R&M sure but Hazbin is literally about redemption and it is achieved for at least one character
but that's the whole point, it's supposed to be the essence of cringe. it still eludes me who would pay to see a pair of cartoon breasts though, must be a zoomer thing
>but that's the whole point, it's supposed to be the essence of cringe.
Mission accomplished, I guess?
Everyone in this thread is a cringe xenos loving homosexual.
>Punching an alien that can only communicate in warbles while shouting "WHERE IS THE ARTIFACT" got me good.
>They could have followed up with a "CURSE YOUR PERFIDIOUS TONGUE" gag, but impaling him through the skull with the translator so it screams in agony works too.
PRAISE BE TO SPACE KING
>Praaaiiiise be to yoooouuuu
>geno-bomb denied
I liked it. It reminded me of the over the top satire that old 40k used to have.
Yes, it was everything they don't want to admit about 40k
I love how the aliens they're murdering are keebler elf sized
classic
I still have my old 4th edition space marine codex which features that artwork.
I want to go back, bros. Modern 40k doesnt bring me back. Space king did a little.
lmao, look at that fist, this franchise is hilarious.
Looks pretty organic to me.
>Looks pretty organic to me.
hordes of astroturfing shills are the new normal
>astrotufring
>shills
>organic
You don't know what any of these things mean.
he doesnt even know what marketing means
try to read the whole sentence instead of snapping at individual words like conditioned ape
You don't have a point.
>two dudes living together in California can afford a marketing team
[sarcasm]marketing is when someone likes something and tells others about it[/sarcasm]
My god, the whole of the internet has been one giant marketing scheme this whole time.
Me too I appreciated the good old battle pile played completely straight
I predict much wailing, concern trolling and gnashing of teeth over Da Chuds and Da Message.
wow, already
Quoth Bryce:
>God damn ._.
What would his statline be?
It was enjoyable, fun little gags, kind of slowed down when the lol funny breasts alien lol showed up
I did enjoy the gag of the character having a bit of an arc, only to immediately go back and drop a grenade whistling, that tickled me
Slow paced metalocalypse meets 40k without the charm of either.
You know, just when I begin to think that I've outgrown edgy Newgrounds-style humor (having replaced it with edgy seriousness) something like this comes along and reminds me of why I spent my formative years on that website in the first place.
Praise be to Space King.
And in many cases the second guy is just the first guy but with less self-awareness, afraid to admit that he loves the original, hiding behind the idea of parody so that he can't be accused of liking anything.
heres the closeup of the profile on the globule i was looking for
This is the guy who delivered the message to the captain at the beginning
thats right. that would be the last one chestnut harvested. also thats the guy where we just saw him taken from earth and having those same holy globules inserted
so we saw this particular star defender's entire life cycle start and end in one 17 minute episode. His whole journey
Yeah, though this version of the "recruitment" process is more of a horror situation than 40k is.
Yeah but it doesn't involve a parasite possessing and using your body.
it also depends on the chapter. most chapters they go to a world and get volunteers, boys who want to become the angels of the emperor
some chapters, however, go to worlds and get "volunteers"
Even where it is voluntary the process of selection is usually some degree of fricked. And where it is less fricked, it is usually because the nature of the world the applicants come from is already deadly enough to winnow the number of applicants down to just the proven survivors the Chapter wants.
I think Salamanders skip the mandatory brainwashing
lorelet
I rather enjoyed it. 'Oh no, it's not modern humour'. frick off.
i bet you watch dorkly
Yeah
Good for them.
>newgrounds.com lasted until 2014
Jesus christ.
>newgrounds.com is still around
Jesus christ!
Better than anything Warhammer+ has ever put out
It was okay.
that explains the inorganic marketing

Did you like it?
Why even live...
>hey guys spread the word, go tell your friends about this thing we worked hard on
OMG PAID SHILLS!
unpaid shills, useful idiots
An unpaid shill isn't a shill. You are a useless idiot.
>fans talking about fanfunded fan work
>inorganic
Your too stupid to breath unassisted.
>Why is it bad to spread things that you like to other people?
That's not what they mean when they talk about advertising and shilling.
Shilling has become yet another term for "stop liking what I don't like".
Shills used to mean people getting paid to post here, its good to keep advertizers out. But any word will lose its meaning as it catches on.
Well, you see it quite simply isn't possible for someone to disagree with me in good faith. It must be because they're being paid.
Anyway, even if someone was being paid to shill this stuff it would be a remarkable waste of money and effort to do it on Ganker.
ids habbeding
we did it, reddit

Liking things is Reddit, you're only supposed to post ragebait and hornybait on TeeGee.
>Hate is my armor. Rage is my shield
Good job, anon. Space King defends
Good for them
Glad to see it! Excited for the next one. Hope it improves though, because the pilot had that same pilot slowness they all do, and they'll need to step it up a bit.
Never underestimate the wallets of those who whale for games workshop
The only fandom that can rival furries and gacha addicted Koreans ability to lose money on luxury goods
>thing not going to games workshop
Also 40kg hates this show. Likely for the same reason the vivsieslop troons are butthurt right now in the co thread
That's kinda funny, people take stuff to seriously
Why tf do 40K guys hate this? It’s literally a show for them.
Vivsieslop troons hate it because the ending ad made fun of them
I just hope it doesn't pull a Fox In Space and take 5 fricking years to come out.
Im still not sure if all the shorts they release are pieces of episode 2 or just random dream fragments gathered from the aether.
praise be to SPACE KING
I would have preferred a straightforward 40k fan series and dropped the rick and morty humor.
Wasn't there an animation recently about a Space Marine, Sister of Battle, a few refugees trapped in a city under attack by some Necrons? There was an other one where it was some Tau trying to fight space marines or something like that, only to be wiped out by Eldar.
Both were 3-4 episodes long.
You're confusing 2 "warhammer+" series Pariah Nexus and Exodite. Both were low-effort garbage.
Like Astartes? Or Helsreach?
I haven't watched flash gitz in a decade and the small bits of the stuff that has been thrust in front of me has not given me any desire to change course
I think the fact that you posted this and made me curious enough to watch it is a crime
The use of angry face is overbearing, otherwise it was okay.

>no real plot to carry the "jokes" along
>patreon uncensored version begging for money from neckbeards who have hentai on their MtG card sleeves
Eh, could have been better. Wouldn't show it to my mates.
>patreon uncensored version begging for money from neckbeards who have hentai on their MtG card sleeves
Jup, that was weak.
>we want to create this not hindered by politics
but also
>give us money to check out the uncensored version of the mild ironic fanservice on the female alien caricature voiced by a dude doing a shrill voice because this is already too risky for us
This.
I'll watch the next one but I would never recommend it to anyone I know
Hi Mr Dreadnought :V
They are right, that there needs to be more stuff for
>unstable teenage boys and 30 year old men
but I don't think
>Rick & Marty but Space Marines
is really filling that small (gigantic entertainment industries funding) niche (that was forcibly turned into an untapped market for moronic reasons), more so than it fills the Rick & Morty niche. Maybe they genuinely believe they are creating something without being afraid of stepping on the toes of the usual crowd, but all I see is them pre-emptively hiding all their edge and lewd behind thirty layers of irony in case they do, using a style that has already proven safe mass appeal.
I like anything that reminds 40kiddies what the rest of the internet thinks of them.
Loved it. Especially the fact that it literally just sounds and plays out like a Black Library shlock novel, but with all the names and branding replaced with exagerated copies of the actual WH40k stuff.
Reminds me Rogue Trader and first eiditions of 40k
The animation is pretty good, much better than any Hammer & Bolter episode.
making a parody of something that is already deliberately absurd is a complete waste of time.
"Bad fanfiction" coupled with the phrase "disappears up its own narrative butthole" defines why I gave up TTS.
Good to see I am not alone with this opinion of TTS. That said I think that scene with Fabricator General arguing was 10/10 best piece of animated fun I saw il long long time.
production quality is sick
voice acting is enjoyable
dialogue isnt annoying
plot was boring
yeah it was good dumb fun. the snake lady doing the booby swing made me cackle harder than it should have
alright fine, I forced myself to watch it
I was stone-faced through the whole thing. The only exception was near the end when the medic-type was extracting the thingys and the little device musically spurts out "praise be to space king" or whatever it says. I let out a tiny but legitimate chuckle in response to that. But I didn't laugh or even smile at anything else.
>Posts I ignore
Not replying to anything, no images, no greentext, just a statement of opinion out of nowhere
>Posts I might read
Ones with images, maybe some greentext, or something spaced out like it was meant to be read and considered in its full
>Posts I glance at every time
Posts with loads of replies are worth reading the first few words of to at least see if its saying something worth replying to. Posts with anime women, posts with infographics above 1MB in size.
>Posts I read every time
Posts that are spaced out, have greentext, have a female in the image relevant to the board (fantasy themed for /tg/) and have a number of replies to it
I don't know if the rest of you guys do this, but I don't spend more than half a second looking at the shitty opinions on here unless there is something to your post that indicates that it MUST be looked at.
Became cringe after the first minute or so
Yes. Actually I just saw it and came here to see if there were any threads about it.
It's sad how a rick and morty style parody is more 40k than nu-41k
How many 40k Marines will it take to beat a Space King Marine?
Star defenders. They're called star defenders
The captain's legion is called the Star Defenders; I don't think it's ever mentioned what the not-Space Marines are actually called as a whole.
Overall not bad but short form works better.
the pacing is fricked because they filled the second half of the episode with censored advertising for their patreon
Not really. It went on too long, it just wasn't funny. The opening recruitment part was the only good thing about it.
Flashgitz have never made a funny cartoon.
but le epic boobies and gore and swears D:
space hulk was good
True but they can be quite entertaining even if they're not really funny.
I’d compare it to Rick and Morty or family guy, but the jokes didn’t even reach either of those in terms of quality and that is really saying something.
>le 40K thing but exaggerated even more
>le booby monster voiced by a man
>they all le die at the end
This is legitimately the kind of newgrounds shit I watched at age thirteen with my friends, but instead of teenagers enjoying this kind of stuff now, it’s thirty something’s who never developed taste beyond what they had as minors. The fact that this is what’s breaking into the mainstream when they’ve actually had funnier videos is kind of sad, tbh. But I guess referencing slop without actually making fun of it gets you farther than actually parodying stuff does.
Seething troon lmao you will never be a woman the real parody is your opinions
I’m more of a man than you’ll ever be. An insecure fanboy shilling a YouTube cartoon for free and insulting anybody who criticizes it is basically one step away from being an unironic cuckold.
Lol nah you're just a mad troony nobody will larp with, sorry ya Black
Another series of posts once again affirming that South America discovering this site was the worst thing to ever happen to it.
>make troon seethe
wtf I love favela bois now
Lmao supermad tarbaby
Flashgitz won’t let you suck their wieners no matter how hard you try, kiddo.
They won't let you write the show if you keep suckin
It was aight. I laughed. I ain't paying to see alien breasts when I can get 'em for free.
I enjoyed the rampant slaughter of not-tau, they deserved what they got. Will at least check out episode 2 when it drops.
First few minutes before the title card are funny mostly cause it draws directly from 40K dumbness, the rest is just generic reddit & morty episode.
shill thread
shill post
Why didn't he use the translator?
because it has to be stabbed into the brain of the subject, rendering them unable to answer any questions or saying anything other than painful screaming
You guys arguing about stupid shit in this thread is moronic.
You should be out there
cracking heads
FINDING SPACE KING!
Thanks Space King, you're right.
