What Rpgs are set in space? It sounds obvious but surprisingly few come to mind to me besides Mass Effect. Pic related, really cool DS tactical RPG I came across where you fight fleet battles and explore the galaxy upgrading your ship.
Only other one I can really think of is Rogue Galaxy which I've never played. What am I missing?

Sigma Star Saga is kinda in space. It's mostly set on actual planets and part of ir is on Earth, but it's very spaceman/alien themed. The gameplay is a top-down adventure like Zelda but it has random battles that are shmup sequences. You can level up and customize your ship for the battles. Pretty unique game, and I thought the story was great. Pic related.
I didn't realize this had multiple endings, I also lucked out and never experienced game breaking bugs on my run through the undead part.
Magical Starsign comes to mind. Doesn't really takes place in space per se but you do travel from planet to planet.
etrian odyssey 5. saga 2 on ds isn't a "space setting" but has you travelling to many different worlds like starsign
Star Sector? They don't really exist though without REALLY including shit that's only tangentially RPG.
Rogue Galaxy (just like Star Ocean) is not based on space.
You can explore planets, but the planets are 90% just your typical fantasy setting.
Dropped it at the Dog and his Girlfriend chapter does it get better?
You were pretty much 80% done with the game at that point.
No, you can win the game just by mashing attack while the AI spams heal potions at you
Anachronox is pretty great
I guess the Mass Effect games count??
I just want a modern Infinite Space. You can't see shit on the DS. Just make a new one with better pacing.
This. I think the pacing for the game was mostly fine except for the last few quests or things to do. The ending was just dumb though, it made some scenes early on make sense but it was just too bumb.
Yeah for the most part it was great. It just suddenly turbo charges you into fighting god right at the end before you've really dealt with the other story beats in the game.
But yeah I just mainly want to be able to see and appreciate the ships. Game so tiny on DS.
They need to just say frick it and make an anime adaptation.
Nah adaptations are always cheap and shitty. There's plenty of good space opera anime out there. Watched the remake of Yamato/Star Blazers recently and really enjoyed that. Similar sort of atmosphere. Infinite Space is like Yamato combined with Gurren Lagann.
Yeah I wanted a game like that too. I really like starsector but the story is just much much simpler with a lot less interesting characters.
I dunno you never really get to know Niall that well, a final battle with Cico would have been better. I think the Katida boss stuck with me much more but that was probably how bizare it was. And because of how hot she looked while fighting you because she wanted you to get into her pants. Why must Yuri be a weirdo and go after the girl he has seen as his sister for all his life.
Niall boss fight was kino with the music though
>The ending was just dumb though
The ending was fricking awesome
Star Ocean, I really like the first one on PSP and they rereleased it on Switch.
Played some instalments of the series and its mostly medieval fantasy, space stuff is just there for flavour.
Really? Not one mention of Star Control?
you just mentioned it. Space Rangers HD and Darkstar One are RPG-ish since there are missions that are like quests.
>rpg set in space
>never played or heard of phantasy star
>forgets about star ocean
get the rope mate.
SF and space RPGs are not not the same thing.
Phantasy Star is a good choice but Star Ocean basically plants you on generic medieval planet 721-b for the bulk of the game.
>""""Space""""" RPGS where everyone just uses (metal) swords and magic and dress up like knights and wizards and are virtually indistinguishable from generic J-fantasy settings.
Xenosaga
A shit
Do KoTOR/TOR, Elite: Dangerous, Mass Effect, Xenosaga, or Star Trek Online count?
KOTOR, obviously.
Outer Worlds
Space Siege
Space Rangers
Plus, Albion, Metalheart, Planet Alcatraz, old M&Ms and IIRC some others are technically set in space travel sci-fi worlds
yuri totally fricked his sister droid.
Not his sister :^)
How has no one mentioned starfield yet?
What's that?
Because it's not out yet, and it's going to suck.
I played this before but didn't finish it. I remember stuff like >seeing the supership civilization from a big system nearby but I don't think I had a real fight with them, Yuri's sister is an android, the next quest is possibly fighting them for the first/second time. How far was I into the game?
Someone needs to rip the ship models out and upgrade them for use in pc game mods, they're too good to be left behind on the DS
XCX but it's more alien planet than it is space setting, per se.
I just started Infinite Space through the nds bootstrap on my 3DS. The intro cutscene starts to have audio issues and if I save in the second slot it becomes corrupted while if I save in the third slot the save disappears.
Anybody have these issues before?
I worry about putting time into it (loving it so far) and having some dumb shit ruin it.
Space Rangers HD is a top-shelf space RPG.
