It is incredibly difficult to maintain the willing suspension of nihilism in the face of Path of Exile's cynical Pavlovian style gameplay cycle.
ARPGs in general are incredibly degenerate in terms of design, where the goal is to avoid having to play the game, and the meta-goal is to take this as far as logically possible to the point where you don't interact with the actual game part of the video game at all, and instead develop your skill at sifting through garbage in order to find good items and builds.
