1) why did you fight the guard instead of running?
2) why did you risk fast-travelling when you have bounties all over your ass?

When you manually save, you use up Savior's Schnaps, which is a hard liquor. The more frequently you save, the more drunk you get. It's a way to punish save-scumming.

Burglarizing kinda ended one playthrough for me, I went around this Abbot's town and hit every house, but one guy woke up and I had to knock him out and flee. Turns out the guy who I knocked out and who now fearfully runs away from me was important to talk to for a quest.
Actual skill issue, there is no way for me to die on an 1 on 1, no perks or combos, only having learned perfect block (used only against unblockable ripostes)

Skill point issue. You tried to do plan A without investing any training in plan B, and when the time came to engage plan B you couldn't do it.
Honestly this is one of the rare games where if the combat is too hard for you I'd recommend just cheating to be able to play through it.
That said, the combat system makes sense. The implementation leaves a bit to be desired in KCD1, but it was a first outing and they wanted to do something different.
1v1 duels are where the system really shines, so I'm guessing your Henry is just low level and weak, or you haven't actually practiced.

I would say that the combat system is usable, meaning that it isn't entirely broken. However, about half of it just isn't useful. The whole combo system is completely useless and you will never pull off any kind of move like that. The game secretly debuffs you based on target enemy level, and any attack of yours can be interrupted by an advanced defense move by your opponent. So, why would you ever try to use an attack move that requires you to do three or four separate moves to accomplish it?
You can use combos if you are high level enough (compared against your opponent) but there is no reason why the game have like 10 fricking combos

Yeah, as much as I personally love the game - these are valid points. It's still the same core issue: the game is full of great ideas and robust mechanics, but so many of them are held back by balance problems.
I really do hope the studio has learned from this a bit. Given how the core thrust of their... "marketing" is that on level of systems, they iterate rather than innovate, it does seem like they are aware of this.
On the other hand, I wonder if this kind of great creative ambition and lack of patience to polish thing is kinda integral to how they operate, and what makes the game so unique and ultimately (at least to me), so memorable. It's the game biggest strength and greatest weakness, and it just may be written too deep into the DNA of the whole thing.
