How many attempts did Side Order take you? I did it in 5 (not including the first story one with no upgrades).
On my 3rd and 4th I wiped consistently on 15F/16F until Marina finally let me buy dmg boosts. With the first tier 1.2x damage I cruised to the finish with the Brush. Honestly thought I'd take way more tries
Three times. I fell off the edge using the Splattershot, abandoned a Splatana run because I got crap chips for the stage I was at and wasn't feeling it, and completed a Charger run.
Three. No AOE on first meaning I wiped against some late high-difficulty portal level. No recharge or damage on second, meaning I wiped on squids boss. Third found a nice balance.
Seems like 3 it's common, beat it with Marie's charger, but that victory run with all the chips would have been way more satisfying if I struggled a bit more
Two. First run was lost to the tutorial about danger zones and it was splat zones in the dark.
Ran the splattershot the second run and beat it. Failed hard with the Luna blaster and then beat with the umbrella.
Twice. Failed first time with Splattershot because I got Danger Enemy Ink/Darkness'd (which is really the only evil thing in this DLC unfortunately), succeeded with brush unintentionally. Game is easy, but I guess the grind is the actual challenge

I'm probably wrong but I've got this terrible fear that because they said "eventually a danger stage will be unavoidable" that if you leave it alone, it might trigger for a boss stage

I got to floor 30 after about 7 or 8 attempts at the tower then died on the third phase of the boss fight
Wanted to finish it tonight but too tired now, will try again tomorrow

Second run was with Dualies, had absolute shit chips and ended up dying around floor 12.
Third run was with Brella, got a lot of pierce and range early on and just cruised through it until the end.
I'm having a hard time playing 2 rigorous splat zone floors with the roller
There's 1 area with split zones and uninkable areas in the middle, and the other area with the sniper towers
It took me 5-6 minutes to beat because I didn't invest in drone chips

It won't instantly invalidate your entire bonus for failing it, it just decreases the reward. I had a bonus where it was "don't move in Octoling form", and it counted the initial drop on the Pearlbot as moving in Octoling form.
sure, but the map in particular requires copious amounts of rail use to beat, not just a small amount. you have two separated splat zones on opposite ends of the map on elevated platforms you can't even swim up the sides of, you HAVE to use rails to get to them. there's a very high up floating platform you could defend both from with a very long range weapon, but only like Tri-Stringer and Chargers have the range to pull that off.
Hmm, give it a few days then, it's probably going to work if another fw update comes out soon, or update your emulator to the latest version. I use Ryujinx and even when I update the fw I still have to update the emulator as well for it to run new stuff. Also I'm sorry the other anon was a meanie.

I dunno, I can play Salmon Run forever and never get tired of it with your teammates and the boss spawns making it so every single time is different. With the Rogue-lite system system of Side Order you have a preset number of levels and the 4 objectives and pretty soon you're going to experience everything it has to offer. I mean it's still fun and all, but I question its longevity.

The devs lied when they said 3 wasn't in development since two. They clearly had a roadmap already in place. The only things we might have gotten was Deep Cut and them being bandits

Looking back on gaming as a whole, I don't think that the pandemic had much of an impact on quality. It just gave studios an excuse to release undercooked titles.

How does bias work? I thought bias was if you get one color chip, it'll try and give you more of that same color. I figured strong bias only improves that effect.
Every loadout has a color type that's very common, and a type that's a little more common than average which is its bias
You can either intensify it to make it so those types are even more common, or to remove the bias all together
I have a lot of fun with the intensified bias. It really lets you go crazy with getting to max out certain effects
Only did three runs so far, but it's fun. Boss fights are great, especially the music. The large rotating tower thing with the searchlights was cool. I usually wipe around floor 14 or 15, I need to git gud so I can get keys and read more of Marina's diary.

I guess the question becomes "Why hasn't all life become short-lived if there is just upsides for the population?". Growing big obviously takes time, and being big is advantageous in things like predation, but it's not like all big animals are long lived, or all long-lived animals are big.
The more you reproduce the more chances for positive mutations and traits being generated and spread through the gene pool.
That's why viruses and bacteria are crazy resilient, because they reproduce a thousand times every day. If just a small amount becomes resistant to something, suddenly the whole colony has that resistance.
That said, there are multiple successful evolutionary strategies and high generation rate is just one of them. If you aren't a pest and your environment isn't constantly trying to eradicate you, then you can see a lot of success with an opposite strategy involving fewer offspring and longer lifespans, like with shit like elephants, turtles, whales, etc.

Opinions on runs so far:
Brella was tough but that's largely because i chose it first
Splattershot was cake
Splatana was average
Charger was either the easiest thing ever or painful
Luna was probably the toughest so far.
I had a blast with roller, got all the damage and attack speed up possible so by the end i was swinging 4k roller swings faster than the speed of light. Killed the last boss in like 1 minute

Worst Octoling fight? Never played 1.
My first win was Splattershot with hacks including extra lives, attack damage, damage reduced, armor regen cooldown and weakened enemies. Out of these, I think attack damage and weakened enemies are the most important ones, letting you clear out enemies faster when stacked with red cards.
Nintendo is definitely doing something different here where it's really not that easy to get into and you're expected to play and fail a bunch to unlock the hacks to make things easier.
I wish the game told you how many specials you used.
Because I basically didn't get any mods for the slosher, and had to tristrike/lucky bomb my way through every round.
Do the final boss portals get nerfed after you've beaten him once? The second time around felt way easier than the first. Although my roller had fricktons of rush attack on it, so I might've just been overpowered.

Why is there only one good boss?
Anybody else find it kinda sus that Acht said she hurt her hand fighting the Jellies, but at the same time this is VR? Also, Marina says that Acht doesn't have a pallette (possibly due to her absorbing it already or something, but that could just be a convenient cover for Acht).
What's more, Acht doesn't seem to leave the building, or even the elevator. "She has to stay in the elevator or you'll get stuck on that floor, 'cause the elevator resets when you leave it". Then how did she get an injury fighting jellies and made it back into the elevator? Also, if it resets to the first floor, she should still be able to leave the building.
Acht just seems sus overall to me in this VR world.
It's a virtual wound. It dissolves when you get to Order's obligatory radio hijack phase.
She's also seen outside with Pearl and Marina in the cutscene that plays the first time you revisit the Order Sector after beating the DLC.

part of it is probably because I'm starting to get the hang of the game but sticky/poison ink and pearl drone builds sort of trivialize the game I think, crowd control becomes significantly easier by just putting a sprinkler or suction in choke points and watch the morons get stuck while you destroy them
also triple inkstrike is unironically the best special for the mode, caps zones, melts portals, cleans house, it does it all
you also don't need to ink it all the time
as long as the ink in the turbine is above the red line, it'll move on it's own
you really only need to continuously shoot it when it's at a checkpoint
I know xenoblade has some of the most disingenuous fanbases on Ganker but xenoblade 3 much like splatoon 3 felt weaker than 2 and yet Monolith still made a better value DLC for their game.
Meanwhile Luigi's Mansion 3 got jack shit aside from multiplayer content which has a weaker scarescraper than 2 did and Pikmin 4 so far has fricking nothing not even updates to change how it plays. Pikmin 4 is the game that needs a roguelite mode not fricking splatoon.
I prefer the main game, story and world of xenoblade 2 over 3 but i dont prefer Torna over Future Redeemed.
Now imagine if 2 also had quality of life updates like letting you read tutorials again or letting you use field skills without swapping around your party. It would stomp 3 even further.
Despite being essentially a filler game Xenoblade 3 still had a lot of love and polish put into it. The only reason for Splatoon 3's existence is that they needed something to fill in the gap before the Switch 2's release.
2 has its merits for things like superior splatfests, Octo Expansion and honestly even salmon run content at this point. Not just the fact 2 still has way better music than 3 too.
It is a post about how Monolith carries nintendo on their shoulders on a daily basis while the splatoon team cant make decisions or content to save their life especially in regards to animal crossing despite how much momentum it had during covid.

brella + no shield launch + ink recovery when killing enemies + sticky/poison ink + go full moron with pearl drone chips (give money to marina to unlock inkstrike for her)
that was by far my easiest run, you become essentially unkillable and can control space better than with any other weapon
The only synergy you really get for a dopamine rush is either very oddly specific builds like meme sprinkler or pearl bot build that lets her unleash killer wails and grenades every 5 seconds.
I kind of wish Side Order was a proper standalone spinoff.
I like it and the concept of a Splatoon roguelike/lite/whatever the frick, but SO just doesn't feel fully realized, if that makes sense.
That's honestly a problem with Splatoon 3.as a whole. Interesting ideas that work, but there's just not enough content to fully realized it's potential.
I don't know if it's because the Team's already working on other games, they didn't have the resources, or they cut it out in the hopes of adding it in later.
Just beat the final boss. Good thing I purchased one extra life cause I was using Splatana melee and one of the portals KNOCKED ME OFF THE MAP

They were trying some half-baked "accept change" thing but it felt pretty hamfisted
The elevator scene at the end tried to kinda call back to this part of Octo Expansion (which getting your Octo to see the sun is one of the best moments in the series) but it didn't really feel impactful. Octo Expansion felt like this big journey to escape, Side Order was just "oh hey I guess I didn't fail the challenge this time"
One thing I like about it over OE is the final fight has you shooting the hell out of something in a very satisfying way instead of navigating a tedious grind rail to shoot specific points

I know japanese has to be interpreted because of japanese frickery, but their is just an interpretation of someone who has a surface level understanding of the characters, and that's not something I should be able to say of the professionals working on adapting the thing. Because their mistakes translate into the average viewer only getting the mangled vission of the translator.
If anything, is surprising Nintendo, of all people, is just waving the "Oh yeah they're totally together" thing out on the open.

Not a huge disappointment, but compared to 1 and 2 it has been pretty lackluster. I feel like the worldbuilding, aesthetics, and music are still top notch, but the gameplay has been really underdeveloped and unfocused. I still blame the pandemic for messing up the game's development and whenever the Switch 2 was going to be released.

It won't instantly invalidate your entire bonus for failing it, it just decreases the reward. I had a bonus where it was "don't move in Octoling form", and it counted the initial drop on the Pearlbot as moving in Octoling form.
You have to hold ZL as soon as you drop, still loose a point or two AFAIK. Imo all the movement bonuses are lame and poorly thought out.
sure, but the map in particular requires copious amounts of rail use to beat, not just a small amount. you have two separated splat zones on opposite ends of the map on elevated platforms you can't even swim up the sides of, you HAVE to use rails to get to them. there's a very high up floating platform you could defend both from with a very long range weapon, but only like Tri-Stringer and Chargers have the range to pull that off.

With the Rogue-lite system system of Side Order you have a preset number of levels and the 4 objectives and pretty soon you're going to experience everything it has to offer. I mean it's still fun and all, but I question its longevity.
Player interaction makes online modes more fun.

I don't feel like Alterna was "Order", but it was something they would've done regardless of who won Order vs. Chaos thus taking away opportunities to fully utilize the Chaos theme. I wish we could've seen Deep Cut and Off the Hook bump heads. Have a throwback to Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome and stuff.
I'm willing to bet they were planning something a lot more grand for the game, but the pandemic made them scale things way back and take an easier route utilizing assets that were already created and even then development was still troubled.
Looking back on gaming as a whole, I don't think that the pandemic had much of an impact on quality. It just gave studios an excuse to release undercooked titles.
The most painful thing about this is that it looked like we were getting Chaos. Then we were bait and switched and had the rug swept out from under our feet.
I honestly would've rather had them rig the Splatfest from the outset or just say "uhh that doesn't count we're still doing Order" then for them to blue ball us like this.

How does bias work? I thought bias was if you get one color chip, it'll try and give you more of that same color. I figured strong bias only improves that effect.
Every loadout has a color type that's very common, and a type that's a little more common than average which is its bias
You can either intensify it to make it so those types are even more common, or to remove the bias all together
I have a lot of fun with the intensified bias. It really lets you go crazy with getting to max out certain effects

That said, there are multiple successful evolutionary strategies and high generation rate is just one of them. If you aren't a pest and your environment isn't constantly trying to eradicate you, then you can see a lot of success with an opposite strategy involving fewer offspring and longer lifespans, like with shit like elephants, turtles, whales, etc.
Groups don't really win or lose at evolution, individuals win when they become immortal.

My first win was Splattershot with hacks including extra lives, attack damage, damage reduced, armor regen cooldown and weakened enemies. Out of these, I think attack damage and weakened enemies are the most important ones, letting you clear out enemies faster when stacked with red cards.

Awesome, I cleared it with Slosher. Building up your Combo Meter and investing in Pearl-bot breaks this game's difficulty.

What's more, Acht doesn't seem to leave the building, or even the elevator. "She has to stay in the elevator or you'll get stuck on that floor, 'cause the elevator resets when you leave it". Then how did she get an injury fighting jellies and made it back into the elevator? Also, if it resets to the first floor, she should still be able to leave the building.
Acht just seems sus overall to me in this VR world.

part of it is probably because I'm starting to get the hang of the game but sticky/poison ink and pearl drone builds sort of trivialize the game I think, crowd control becomes significantly easier by just putting a sprinkler or suction in choke points and watch the morons get stuck while you destroy them
also triple inkstrike is unironically the best special for the mode, caps zones, melts portals, cleans house, it does it all

I know xenoblade has some of the most disingenuous fanbases on Ganker but xenoblade 3 much like splatoon 3 felt weaker than 2 and yet Monolith still made a better value DLC for their game.
Meanwhile Luigi's Mansion 3 got jack shit aside from multiplayer content which has a weaker scarescraper than 2 did and Pikmin 4 so far has fricking nothing not even updates to change how it plays. Pikmin 4 is the game that needs a roguelite mode not fricking splatoon.

I prefer the main game, story and world of xenoblade 2 over 3 but i dont prefer Torna over Future Redeemed.
Now imagine if 2 also had quality of life updates like letting you read tutorials again or letting you use field skills without swapping around your party. It would stomp 3 even further.
Despite being essentially a filler game Xenoblade 3 still had a lot of love and polish put into it. The only reason for Splatoon 3's existence is that they needed something to fill in the gap before the Switch 2's release.
Imagine if we were still stuck in missile armor Splatoon 2 meta. As rough as some parts of Splatoon 3 have been I'm still grateful it exists.
2 has its merits for things like superior splatfests, Octo Expansion and honestly even salmon run content at this point. Not just the fact 2 still has way better music than 3 too.

I kind of wish Side Order was a proper standalone spinoff.
I like it and the concept of a Splatoon roguelike/lite/whatever the frick, but SO just doesn't feel fully realized, if that makes sense.
That's honestly a problem with Splatoon 3.as a whole. Interesting ideas that work, but there's just not enough content to fully realized it's potential.
I don't know if it's because the Team's already working on other games, they didn't have the resources, or they cut it out in the hopes of adding it in later.

The elevator scene at the end tried to kinda call back to this part of Octo Expansion (which getting your Octo to see the sun is one of the best moments in the series) but it didn't really feel impactful. Octo Expansion felt like this big journey to escape, Side Order was just "oh hey I guess I didn't fail the challenge this time"
One thing I like about it over OE is the final fight has you shooting the hell out of something in a very satisfying way instead of navigating a tedious grind rail to shoot specific points

It's like the Najimi thing, with translators kinda ignoring the entire point of the character being that they're "genderfluid" and flipflop constantly, and instead giving her definitive pronouns.
I know japanese has to be interpreted because of japanese frickery, but their is just an interpretation of someone who has a surface level understanding of the characters, and that's not something I should be able to say of the professionals working on adapting the thing. Because their mistakes translate into the average viewer only getting the mangled vission of the translator.

Not a huge disappointment, but compared to 1 and 2 it has been pretty lackluster. I feel like the worldbuilding, aesthetics, and music are still top notch, but the gameplay has been really underdeveloped and unfocused. I still blame the pandemic for messing up the game's development and whenever the Switch 2 was going to be released.
When you consider every game's flaws, 3's still the best.
