What’s more likely is that Splatoon 3 is backwards compatible and gets a “next gen” update. A deluxe re-release really doesnt make sense for a game that relies on a drip feed/live service/seasonal model

You can two-shot with the main weapon, why bother with the marker in most cases?
When people talk about combos, like hoping explosher got burst or marker, being happy sblast got burst etc, its because the sub weapon shaves off either a number of shots to kill, or time to kill.
The nubrella splats in 2 hits just about as fast as a marker would, the marker is wasted on it honestly. Worst still, is since the marker is weaker than the shot, its LESS likely to kill than the brella would anyway
Explosher really wanted it to cap of its 90 damage shot, quickly, at range, for example.

I won eight matches in a row with the new .52 so I'd say it's pretty good. The other weapons are fun too, I like all new kits this season, even if I probably won't be good with all of them (I'm not that great with chargers).
Haven't actually tried the brand-new mains yet but just from seeing other people use them, bambrella looks pretty strong and the dousers seem good but hard to use.

Me too, it was fun on the Cherry H-3. I ran Object Shredder + Max Special Power Up with it, it was a beast. You could pop far-away bubbles quickly behind the safety of your wall, it was excellent.

I would strongly disagree on micro transactions since it is the same thing but worse, but seasons with timed content and excessive grind is bad. There is no reason to block off a chunk of content behind a huge time sink, especially when it is on a timer. A good game should not need to dangle a carrot in front of you to get you to play it.

Games locking accomplishments behind huge time sinks is nothing new. Games have been doing that since the NES days. If you want to 100% something or collect everything for a game it will require a lot of time dedication generally speaking. Now Splatoon has content semi locked behind timed events, but I don't believe in the whole 'all content should be unlocked within a reasonable time' when games have never gone behind that philosophy. There's always some impossible bullshit that's going to take some autist to grind hours and hours to get. I don't think finishing the catalogue is in THAT demanding, certainly not in the realm of other games and "end-game" unlocks.

I just can't get over how players are treated in this. I know its just a stupid badge that at the end of the day isn't that amazing, but the level 999 stuff annoys me. An amazing player that wins every single game will still take an obscene amount of hours to get. If the best player in the world that never loses still is going be obliged to play that many hours for it, then why should I even bother to be good either? Its just demoralizing to me. There shouldn’t be anything meaningful behind an excessive grind. Zelda with its golden poo is they way to do it. You get something for your effort, but they didn’t put anything good since they know that almost no one will do it. With salmon run, I only got the first out of three tiers of suits by the time I was starting to be ready to put the game down. In my case, it could have been bad/good luck since my gold scale rate was higher than it should have been while I was lacking in silver. The obvious problem with the catalogs is the limited time. I haven’t played the game since the end of season 1, so they may as well just not exist. Splatoon 1 and 2 had no issues with me taking a break and coming back after more was added to the game. There shouldn’t be a penalty for not playing all the time or buying the game late.

I honestly don't know anybody that likes the current catalogue system, most people don't like the idea of locking gear behind that.
Problem is there has been very little in the way of new gear added, and it's all been locked behind the catalogue, but they are re-running catalogues now. I wonder if they're going to stick with this model for the next game because I'm sure a lot of people have complained about it by now.

Yeah that's also been a bit of a downer, but at least with 2 you got new kits spread out over time rather than being locked up behind 3 month dry spells. Still, some weapons had to wait until the end of that game to get just a second kit like Hydra. I have no idea why they wait so long other than to just pad out time.

If you look at the new kits they're giving these weapons, there's a theme here. Don't give out strong specials like crab or inkjet, but if you do, don't combine a lethal bomb as a sub with the strong special. Many kits have gotten unfitting sub/special combos and it feels like the devs are intentionally trying to play it very safe by not creating any more "broken kits". Them taking so long to release second kits may be more than just padding and could have to do with this awkward way of trying to maintain the game balance. Not really a fan with the kits lately, this entire season is full of duds.

The ability system is honestly less complicated than 1 or 2. Damage up/defense up and main power up really made gear a lot more complicated. It was also way harder to modify your gear to get the abilities you want >lockers >stickers

That's the entire point.
Splattershot is an easy weapon. If you want to use max hacks you won't really need chips.
If you want your full chip palette than you can get away with 1-2 hacks as you generally aren't going to use all 30-36 chip slots in a single run unless you've got vending machine hacks on.
Bare minimum hacks?
If I were to choose two hacks it would be having one extra life, and reducing enemy damage. That should give you just a little more leeway to survive bad encounters. If just one hack, then i'd go with the extra life.

yeah increasing your own damage is also another way to go. But just reducing enemy damage just a tick can prevent them from breaking your armor immediately. It's up to preference.

The damage hacks are busted as hell. A fat 20% from just one hack point is obscene. For my 8 run I had the 3000 continues and a damage increase and that's all I needed.

My bare minimum would be 1 extra life and 1 point in broken armor jump, just so I can at least hover to safety if I get swarmed by enemies or get knocked off the map, though for my first Octoshot attempt I had 3 lives instead and realized I didn't even need the extras at all

Zip takes a while to get a handle on. You gotta learn the maps, develop the tech skill for it, know when and against what weapons you should zip vs use your weapon, and be able to adapt on the fly based on the enemies, etc

Compared to the jet squelcher, my main, it's also a four shot kill with roughly the same kill time and about the same movement speed. The range is slightly shorter, around heavy splatling. It paints slightly less, but paints a bit more under your feet, similar to the splattershot nova. >Roll
While in the roll position, it has roughly squiffer range and just about the same kill time as the dapple roll. It only has one roll, which seems a bit slower than the splat dualie roll, but it sends you farther than any other dualie.
So I guess it's kind of like the inbetween of a jet and nova mashed with dapples. I wish it had a better sub than ink mines but those are fun to play with at least.

You can two-shot with the main weapon, why bother with the marker in most cases?
When people talk about combos, like hoping explosher got burst or marker, being happy sblast got burst etc, its because the sub weapon shaves off either a number of shots to kill, or time to kill.
The nubrella splats in 2 hits just about as fast as a marker would, the marker is wasted on it honestly. Worst still, is since the marker is weaker than the shot, its LESS likely to kill than the brella would anyway

I would strongly disagree on micro transactions since it is the same thing but worse, but seasons with timed content and excessive grind is bad. There is no reason to block off a chunk of content behind a huge time sink, especially when it is on a timer. A good game should not need to dangle a carrot in front of you to get you to play it.

Games locking accomplishments behind huge time sinks is nothing new. Games have been doing that since the NES days. If you want to 100% something or collect everything for a game it will require a lot of time dedication generally speaking. Now Splatoon has content semi locked behind timed events, but I don't believe in the whole 'all content should be unlocked within a reasonable time' when games have never gone behind that philosophy. There's always some impossible bullshit that's going to take some autist to grind hours and hours to get. I don't think finishing the catalogue is in THAT demanding, certainly not in the realm of other games and "end-game" unlocks.
I just can't get over how players are treated in this. I know its just a stupid badge that at the end of the day isn't that amazing, but the level 999 stuff annoys me. An amazing player that wins every single game will still take an obscene amount of hours to get. If the best player in the world that never loses still is going be obliged to play that many hours for it, then why should I even bother to be good either? Its just demoralizing to me. People tell me to git good and I just think why? We're bother going to suffer in the end anyway.

There shouldn’t be anything meaningful behind an excessive grind. Zelda with its golden poo is they way to do it. You get something for your effort, but they didn’t put anything good since they know that almost no one will do it. With salmon run, I only got the first out of three tiers of suits by the time I was starting to be ready to put the game down. In my case, it could have been bad/good luck since my gold scale rate was higher than it should have been while I was lacking in silver. The obvious problem with the catalogs is the limited time. I haven’t played the game since the end of season 1, so they may as well just not exist. Splatoon 1 and 2 had no issues with me taking a break and coming back after more was added to the game. There shouldn’t be a penalty for not playing all the time or buying the game late.
I honestly don't know anybody that likes the current catalogue system, most people don't like the idea of locking gear behind that.
Problem is there has been very little in the way of new gear added, and it's all been locked behind the catalogue, but they are re-running catalogues now. I wonder if they're going to stick with this model for the next game because I'm sure a lot of people have complained about it by now.
The catalogues are honestly pretty eh to me, the much bigger problem is the slow ass kit rollouts. Imagine being an Exploshergay and having to wait all this time just to get shit on again by an even worse second kit. There's really no excuse for the kits taking this fricking long to get added to the game.
Yeah that's also been a bit of a downer, but at least with 2 you got new kits spread out over time rather than being locked up behind 3 month dry spells. Still, some weapons had to wait until the end of that game to get just a second kit like Hydra. I have no idea why they wait so long other than to just pad out time.
It's pretty clearly just padding. I can understand spacing out the actually new weapons somewhat, but there's really no excuse for how long the kit rollouts take when it's literally just change two parameters and recolor the model and boom done. That shit should take a day tops.
If you look at the new kits they're giving these weapons, there's a theme here. Don't give out strong specials like crab or inkjet, but if you do, don't combine a lethal bomb as a sub with the strong special. Many kits have gotten unfitting sub/special combos and it feels like the devs are intentionally trying to play it very safe by not creating any more "broken kits". Them taking so long to release second kits may be more than just padding and could have to do with this awkward way of trying to maintain the game balance. Not really a fan with the kits lately, this entire season is full of duds.
Doesn't help that they're basing their balancing decisions on Jap Turf War matches of all fricking things.

The ability system is honestly less complicated than 1 or 2. Damage up/defense up and main power up really made gear a lot more complicated. It was also way harder to modify your gear to get the abilities you want

Splattershot is an easy weapon. If you want to use max hacks you won't really need chips.
If you want your full chip palette than you can get away with 1-2 hacks as you generally aren't going to use all 30-36 chip slots in a single run unless you've got vending machine hacks on.

If I were to choose two hacks it would be having one extra life, and reducing enemy damage. That should give you just a little more leeway to survive bad encounters. If just one hack, then i'd go with the extra life.

yeah increasing your own damage is also another way to go. But just reducing enemy damage just a tick can prevent them from breaking your armor immediately. It's up to preference.
The damage hacks are busted as hell. A fat 20% from just one hack point is obscene. For my 8 run I had the 3000 continues and a damage increase and that's all I needed.
My bare minimum would be 1 extra life and 1 point in broken armor jump, just so I can at least hover to safety if I get swarmed by enemies or get knocked off the map, though for my first Octoshot attempt I had 3 lives instead and realized I didn't even need the extras at all
I had +1 Live, Armor Break Jump, and Drone Items.
If you turn off hacks you have full access to your entire chip palette on the octoshot

Compared to the jet squelcher, my main, it's also a four shot kill with roughly the same kill time and about the same movement speed. The range is slightly shorter, around heavy splatling. It paints slightly less, but paints a bit more under your feet, similar to the splattershot nova.

While in the roll position, it has roughly squiffer range and just about the same kill time as the dapple roll. It only has one roll, which seems a bit slower than the splat dualie roll, but it sends you farther than any other dualie.
So I guess it's kind of like the inbetween of a jet and nova mashed with dapples. I wish it had a better sub than ink mines but those are fun to play with at least.
Well the good news is that the Dousers won't have very long to wait for a second kit
