LMAO I had doomposted about the catalog being recycled and to see it actually happen is both funny and sad. But I'm upset there's stil a ton of gear from the previous 2 games that aren't in this one. I clocked over 2,000 hours in Splatoon 2, have about 600 hours in 3 and it's becoming increasingly difficult to give a shit about and keep playing the game with how shitty the maps and matchmaking have been. The core of the game is actually really fun but it's coveres in shit. I feel particularly burned because I bought this game twice, for me and a friend that doesn't really play much anymore outside of the big events. I'm almost at that same point. I have completed every catalog so far, and I don't think I'll be completing this one past the last of the emotes in it.

I feel like nearly everyone who played the game for more than ten matches came to this conclusion to various degrees.

I barely even play during events any more, I'm at 545 hours now and doubt I will break 600 by the time 4 comes out. For me it was the combination of map design, seasonal grinding, weapon balance, and low IQ playerbase that you can't escape from unless you full team queue.

Really kind of makes me wonder what they were thinking with the games development. Maybe because the release of the Switch 2 was so up in the air due to many factors they wnated to rush out 3, but then they realized they wanted Splatoon 4 near its launch so they were planning all this support for 3, but are now saving it for 4.
Best thing they could do now is put out a Splatoon 3 Deluxe, put in two more years of free updates, and a new OE-level campaign starring Deep Cut and a third playable race
No that would sell objectively worse than a “new” game. Splatoon isnt mario kart. All you need to do is put in some new idols, a new hub, a few new tetris block maps, and then copy and paste salmon run, the gear, most of the specials, old stages, and single player can be mostly the same with octarians with a new texture.
Splat games are also released with very little content that they drip out over time, meaning its acceptable to push a game out for release that is practically barren, speeding up development times. Splat 3 is not getting a deluxe version when they can churn out a new game in two years time.
They wanted some game for the switches sunset. Then it sold super well and realized they need one for the switches successor sooner rather than later.

The locker design is actually far more freeform than something I'd expect from the animal crossing team. It gives me hopes that in future titles they will stray from the rigid grid that those games have and allows a full physics based nightmare along with decorating walls or even other pieces of furniture in a similar way to the locker fronts.
Octo Expansion is overrated as shit and is mainly put up on a high pedestal for not being 2's shit singleplayer. It even suffers from a bunch of issues people try to pretend only ROTM has, like total a lack of new enemies which is doubly lame in OE's case considering all the deep sea creatures on the trains and the AI villain somehow not having a single robot working for him.
Lockers are the worst thing added to S3. They are a completely wasted feature that serves zero purpose. Them being tucked away into some corner that you have to go out of your way to see is stupid and 90% of it is just model flips of existing things. Everyone would have preferred more clothes, badges and cards then locker content.
Side Order should have been a multiplayer dlc pack, and not some single player content that's going to last at most 5 hours.
Imagine a third race, more music, exclusive clothes, more maps with single player gimmicks like elevators and stuff.

Easy fix. Give the dlc maps a third slot in que, and if one player has the dlc, he unlocks it and the whole lobby can play the map.

EPD No. 5 had a full generation to make a new Animal Crossing and they gave us the most barebones title in franchise history, and DESPITE selling insanely well, they dumped support after a year. I haven't really used sprinkler weapons much in 3, but I'm pretty sure I paint as much as the sprinkler's total area just by doing two tap shots. MAYBE three. Which costs much less than 60% ink. IDK, I'm having trouble seeing myself using it any more often than I use the disruptor (which is basically only when I'm popping wail).
If I had a sticky bomb I could just paint that whole area all at once... while also killing people...

The problem is lack of players bro. I rose through the ranks much later than most of the guys here since I didn’t start ranked until a few months later. In every rank it was the exact same until S+. I thought it was suspicious that they hid the ranks from players but I think it’s because they add A & S rankers into what should be C & B rank games which results in the stomp or be stomped outcome. There aren’t enough A ranks to fill games normally and there aren’t enough S ranks either. So it’s easy to just fill out the rosters with 1 dude on either side who shouldn’t be there
S+ and X are the only two ranks where you are actually against your skill level, if you managed to get there by skill and not just a bit of luck

Most games are made so you will keep ranking up as long as you keep playing. The extent differs from game to game, but most ranked modes allow for even poor players to obtain a fairly high rank from just playing over and over again. Splatoon 3, however, seems to really double down on this idea. You can lose more than you win and still eventually find yourself in A+ or S- if you play an ungodly amount. S+ is the only significant skill check.

I actually don't really mind that they're reusing gear because I was getting tired of the catalog grind and want to play the game a lot less. With the other games I usually stop playing outside of Splatfests and updates.
Still is amusing that the two years of support thing was never really a thing to begin with. With the lack of enthusiasm compared to the other games, bizarre design choices, and the inability to handle the game, it's pretty evident that the game was just a rush job meant to pad out the Switch end of life. I still had fun with it, but I'd be lying if I wasn't a bit annoyed about it and wish they never made the game when Splatoon 4 will be out before too long and be everything 3 was supposed to have been or ideally Splatoon 3 could've been a major Splatoon 2 update.

You seriously need to lower your expectations. We’re not getting more content after the DLC. We’ve been getting less and less content each season and it’s likely we wont even get third weapon kits at the rate we’re going. We only have three seasons left of “new” content anon. Support will dry up even further. DLCs arent made with the full of development team. If anything this is a sign they’ve started development for Splat 4/animal crossing. Side order does not have the full team on it, that’s just not how DLCs are made.

OE was released before the one year anniversary of 2 anon. It was also released at the beginning of the console’s life, there was more reason to support it. We dont even know when side order will be out, and we’re already past the halfway point. Splat 3 was released at the end of switch’s lifespan and the devs are going to want to release a new Splat game for launch window 2025. It’s clearly Splat 3 has not gotten anywhere near the same amount of effort or love 2 got. We have less everything in this game. Less gear, less weapon kits, less splatfests with a lazier gimmick. Splat 2 had a new splatfest every month with a new shifty station made for each one. Our splatfests have the extremely lazy tricolor stages where the only time they did something interesting was for the zelda fest.
Switch is coming to an end. Most of Nintendo’s devs are working on new games for the new system, as we know even third party devs gave dev kits now. Splat 3 just didnt have the same amount of effort put in. In short this was just a cashgrab to pad out the last two years of Switch’s release, as they couldnt stretch Splat 2 any longer. Splat 3 printed a frick ton of money and they’re moving on to the next game. To put in perspective, Splat 1 released in 2015 on the end of Wii U’s lifespan. Splat 2 only came out two years later for launch window on the switch. They’re going to churn out Splat 4 by 2025 because these games sell like hotcakes, especially on a new system it will push system sales in Japan too.
There was a bunch of big updates after OE was released. They did Splatoween and the New Years even after it, then order vs. Chaos the following year.

Actually looking at the list of updates for Splatoon 2, why were they making a big deal about supporting 3 for 2 years when it was about the same? The last real major content update for 2 was in April 2019 almost 2 years after it was released and Oder vs. Chaos was two years after. This only makes 3 a lot more disappointing.

It's clear that Splat 2 had a lot more effort and love put into it than Splat 3. They had a reason to make Splat 2 last longer, because at the time it was still a growing franchise, released at the beginning of Switch's lifespan only two years after the first game. They didn't know if it would be a success. But it ended up being one. Splat 2 got support. They stretched it out as long as they could.
Splat 3 comes out a few years later and it's a rushed mess, hardly feels like a sequel, is buggier than ever before. Months are spent trying to clean up and "fix" tricolor mode. We get less and less content than previous games. And now they're already recycling content. We have less splatfests with less effort put into them, we have less music, less gear, less weapon kits than at this point in time for the same game, and there's no real reason it should be that way. We should be getting more by this point. But we're not.
The "negative" posters aren't pulling this out of thin air either. Compared to 2, Splat 3 is just getting a lot less and we have no reason to believe they're going to support it in a big way now that we're at the halfway point and things are already falling short.
They're going to want to get started on the new game for the next console, whether it be animal crossing or Splatoon, that's a fact. They made their money here. The game is bleeding players. There's no real reason to up the support or do anything more than the bare minimum, which according to many fans of the series they're not even reaching the bare minimum!
Every fricking season there's been people holding out saying "dont worry things will get better for this game" or "the seasons will start adding more content over time because blah blah blah" but the opposite has fricking happened. Those people were wrong every fricking time and I don't know how they can't see that this game isn't given the same level of attention and care Splatoon 2 got.
I'll wait until Side Order is out to see if the updates get better, if not, oh well, if so, then yay.

Really, it was kind of silly for people to expect SEVEN King Salmonids in the game or even 6 or 5. At this rate we'll probably end up with 4 by the end which isn't "bad", but in the future it'll be important to keep one's expectations tempered.

Has the game gotten better in the past 6 months? I fricking loved Spatoon 1. I was happy with 2 despite not playing it as much, but after playing this fricking thing for 3 months after launch I gave up giving a shit. I seriously don't like anything this game does. I don't care for the catalog, I never gave a shit about meta crap, I never really cared for my abilities and the only reason I wore the gear I wore was because I thought it looked cool. I just picked the guns I liked and did my best no matter what stage because it was really fricking fun to play. I was actually really disappointed by the single player and I can't remember a single song from this game.
I don’t know what you liked or didn’t like about the games. You’re just whining about incidental shit like the collectibles and the meta. And if you liked 1-2 singleplayer more than 3’s, you’re a tastelet who I couldn’t advise
I guess my biggest gripe is with the stages. From what I played, I was able to go straight into the middle or go to it from the side and that's it. They were at their weirdest in the first game and that was one of the biggest reasons I liked them. Specials aren't as fun as they used to be. I know that's a balance thing, but none of the specials are as cool or as useful as they appeared to be in trailers. I never had an issue with any of them in any game and I didn't care that some were "panic buttons" because there was almost always a way of avoiding them. I don't like gacha shit, but I guess that's just me being a boomer since everything has that now. Music wise, I do remember one track now that I think about it. The shop track with the moron girl. Single player, I was excited for the story and then that sucked too. Callie pops up around the islands, but Marie, and the rest don't do shit and Agent -_- gets one one joke cutscene. Then Grizz was just pic rel
We have pools now which makes it fun to play with anons. Asides from that, not really

The single player in 3 while better than 2 is just a weaker, watered down, and pants on moronic plot wise version of Octo Expansion. It’s uninventive, lazy, and on top of that ruined Mr Grizz’s character.
But great job just buckling down on the single player when that’s literally not what ANYONE is talking about when comparing the absolute dearth of content we’re getting right now in the modes people actually play more than once, not the glorified tutorial.

Many of the weapons are unusable and dont get buffs, we’re not getting third weapon kits for the game, splatfests are worse, tricolor is shit, all of the levels in the game have the same tetris block shape with one entry point into the enemy side, uninkable walls everywhere, and zero fricking flanks. Only thing that is actually good in Splatoon is the addition of pools, the squid roll, a new lobby, and Salmon Run has seen some improvements. The stage design neuters the gameplay, and not to mention we’re getting less stages than previous games, less gear, and so on. Its not just about how they package the content. WE ARE GETTING LESS OVERALL IN THIS GAME COMPARED TO PREVIOUS SPLATOONS, THAT’S THE FRICKING PROBLEM YOU moron. THIS DID NOT WARRANT CREATING A NEW GAME FOR IT JUST TO ADD SQUIDROLL AND A HANDFUL OF MEAT GRINDERS
