I don't get it, players of other games with battle passes would love to have a way to get old items they missed, you guys get a way and you b***h?
The problem is that they frick over long-time players. There should be a way to get old catalog gear without having to punish existing players. Having the level 100 catalog reward be old gear from the first catalog is inexcusable. Don't accept getting fricked just because other companies frick their players over worse.

People have been defending this by saying that Octo Expansion caused a content drought when that never happened. The monthly stages and weekly weapons continued normally between announcement and release. Even 3.0.0 which added a large amount of new gear and Callie happened in between
We don't have a lot of insight, Nintendo shuffles staff between teams, and even within this team they might be working on another game.
But the development of a game's one big expansion could very well have a crunch period that requires more staff. Personally I'll accept some meh seasons if SO can be as good as OE.

2's updates got better after Octo Expansion, so why not?
Because the devs actually gave a shit with 2 and that was at the start of the console’s life. They had to make 2 last. With 3 it doesnt matter as much. On to the next thing. 2 had more new content in it at this point in time than 3 ever got, that’s the problem.
I don't really care how much new content we get each season honestly. Not every (or any) season needs to be super impressive to be exciting and fun. I'm happy enough with getting new maps and we got 2 of them this time. We got some new weapons too. That's the content that really matters because it's where the majority of gameplay is. I could always want more but there's always a point where it's good enough and they've never fallen below that mark.

The new weapons are definitely cool and I forgive nova for being less unique because we already have so much variety within the shooter class. I do wish they played around with splatanas and stringers more though. Kit problems aside, it would be fun to have more gimmicky variations on those weapon classes like with the other classes.
Yeah thats the issue here. Did we need another shooter or even a roller that hardly changes much? We already have multiple chargers. They introduce two new weapon classes with two types each but instead we get more weapon classes from precvious games, and now a new bucket and splatling which arguably didnt need new weapons. Where are the new stringers, splatana, or even brushes? Hell look how many types of dualies they added in 2, and 3 different brellas which have all but been abandoned now. Can we even expect a new stringer or splatana? We dont have an alternate kit for the Stamper or the reeflux a year plus out and we’ll have to wait until next season even for a hope of that! It’s fricking bullshit, all of the philosophy around this game’s new content is just whack.

It was in the Japanese interviews they were specifically asked about the map design and the devs acted like they weren't really doing anything different and they added the junk to block sniper positions, so I'm pretty sure Japanese fans feel the same way everyone does and the devs at least listen to them a little though probably nothing is really going to change until the next game at least. They're too far gone in whatever philosophy or plans they have for the game right now.

Splatoon 2 has funner maps therefore it's a more fun game overall. I don't really care about cancerous special because I use them too. I care about whether or not the maps are fun to play on and 3's maps are not fun to play on.

I like this tacticooler meta and more aggressive playstyles. I do think the weapon balance is better here. It’s just a shame about stage diversity and the philosophy around stage design in this game. Let’s just hope the balance doesnt go to shit. At least theyve neutered some of the more cancerous shit and buffed some other options like inkvac and zooka. A lot of weapons, specials, and subs still need buffs though, and if the devs frick it up again we could have a situation just as bad as 2. Let’s pray that doesnt happen.

It did come out too early because it was unfinished but I'm glad it came out when it did because a lot of what it's doing will be a great foundation for Splatoon 4. We have stuff like emotes, fist bumps, pools, the new lobby system, splashtags and everything that came with it, adjustable gear, that kind of ultimately unimportant stuff that make the game feel more fleshed out. Having a sequel that can use all of this stuff as a base and build on the actual content side of the game will be great. I do think Splatoon 3 will ultimately feel like kind of a dud for its entire life though.

What’s the point of releasing a new game if it has less content than the previous games? Splat 3 is just lowering the bar here, it feels mostly unnecessary and like others have pointed out, would have better left saved for a new console and given more time in the oven. Splat 3 was a buggy mess on release and many of the first few months were doing clean up.
People wanted a non-rushed, non half baked Splatoon game for once and that’s not what we got. There was no excuse for 3 to be mishandled the way it is. The execution is just all over the place and while there are some charming things about it, was it really worth creating a new game for? From a business stand point yeah, but it’s just not been handled great. Many aspects of 3 feel like a downgrade from the previous game and that’s never how a sequel should feel. I realize 2’s game balance was atrocious by the end of its life. But 2 actually raised the standard of what a new splatoon game should feel like, and what was able to do so soon after the last game was pretty impressive, on a new console to boot. With the experience they had with 2 you think 3 would wind up being a very polished and refined experience pushing the boundaries of what a new Splat game could be but it just didnt. The average person looks at Splat 3 compared to Splat 2 and say what’s the difference? If it aint broke dont fix it, I get it, but did 3 really warrant being a new game if they’re going to give us less content than we got with the previous game on the same system?

There is possible hope for this problem. Supposedly, in a future update, they might be adding a way to post without needing to link to a social media account. Meaning, you can just have the game, and be able to post among all the twitter posters. So bully them, mock them, destroy them entirely until they leave. And the best way to do that, without breaking any rules, is to mock them for being bad at the game. They aren't there to play the game or be good at it, they are only there to spread their "message". I had an enjoyable time with the game for the first few months, before becoming burnt out and moving on to other things.
I can't say I envy people who stick with the same game for literal years, but I do find it fascinating.
I started last month and I'm enjoying getting better at the controls. It's pretty rewarding just for that.
I just wish the maps didn't snowball or deadlock so easily. Flanking options seem really limited all across the board.

my theory is they had things more open but then playtesters complained of opponents popping up behind them and it wasnt fun so they decided to make all walls uninkable and force the action in one predictable spot. But that’s just a theory based on pure speculation
I think they were trying to make it more competitive but failed to understand what that meant. In theory pitting players against each other at chokepoints is a great way to test coordination and mechanical skills but in practice it's just restrictive and unfun.

The practice won't even translate to Splatoon 3 though because you can camp out on the other island for the entire game and throw eggs to the basket. It's going to play completely different to how it did in 2.

Devs think Splash-o-Matic was too strong, so they're trying to correct their mistake by not making strong kits anymore.
The problem is less the kits and more the sub balance, which they have simply given up on. Bombs are simply superior to everything
Even though the kits last season generally weren't great I liked most of them since they had a clear idea behind them that complimented the weapon even if some of them didn't quite work out.

It has pretty good range and a unique spread, it's three to kill, so technically it's still a two shot if you get most of your sloshes in since you fire two at once. Now it having reefslider is pretty shit so it's pointless until that gets a buff
Man reefslider is just a kit-killer, no weapon can be considered good with it. Not even buffs to the special can fix it, it’s just fundamentally pure shit
buffs could help alleviate the problem a bit. Nobody thought the ink vac buffs would equate to much but it's shaping up to be a force to be recognized. Tacticooler wasn't taken seriously until it kept getting buffs. Inkjet went from useless to one of the best specials in the game in one patch where it received buffs (since been nerfed a bit). There are things they can do to help the reefslider out, but yes by nature it will always be a risky special. It has a niche in things like splat zones being able to instantly recap the zone, but it needs for one way less lag time after use, or perhaps some invincibility frames so it can have a moment to get out safely. I've seen some suggestions to remove it's trajectory line, give people the ability to angle it/steer it. There's all sorts of buffs they could give it. Make the explosion faster/larger.
I wish the invincibility kicked in slightly faster when starting it. Can't really use it as a surprise special with those frick off lines it gives off.
If they had waited one more update they could have given Dapples Nouveau Kraken instead of Reefslider and it would have been significantly better

I don't think big man is popular enough to secure a comparable popularity vote. And Shiver players have proven themselves to do well and win plenty of battle categories consistently, especially the very valuable tricolor category. Big man may tend to win pro, but Shiver has sweeped before as well. Her teams do decently well in pro too, but it depends.

It still functions like a jacked up undercover brella, just with no shield. Brellas have always been shotgun like in their attacks and the grizz brella is no different, it's a cranked up auto-shotty.
Having dualies that can't roll would make zero fricking sense. At that point just make it the grizzco shooter because it would make no difference. The dualies will be able to roll, every dualies can. That is their distinguishing feature, and the gimmick will have something to do with that seeing as how rolling changes the firing mode of the weapon.

Of all the brellas available tenta is the only one that's feasbile in a competitive environment. It has a niche and is being used in high level play. Undercover and especially vanilla brella, not so much.

People did. It came completely out of left field is the thing. No one even predicted it was coming. But it gave us a cool, challenging DLC with a neat reward: an entirely new playable race.
Splat 3's singleplayer is already a discount Octo Expansion, so if they do the same structure yet again it is going to feel stale. Problem is there's not going to be a cool reward on the level of playable octos, which playable octos had been demanded by fans since the first game.
Nogami said Side Order would have a completely new twist on the gameplay, but who knows how true that really is.

What games do you play?
I'm coming to realize I take no joy in playing short-range guns. It never works in my favor. Plinking dudes to death with a splatling or squelcher is great, but close range I'm just gonna get aped on by a brush. Long range is for the kangz.
I usually play short range because my preferred playstyle is to run up and shoot them in the face. I tend to get killed by Trisloshers and Octobrushes a lot.
I think I'm too stupid to do close range right, years of CoD and ADS have just made me slowly walk towards people and shoot them. The thought to squid around and do devious shit never occurs to me, whereas backing up and shooting dudes who can't touch me makes so much sense.
when you play backliner everyone is paying attention to you 24/7 and that means you're getting sub weapons and specials thrown at you
front liners can get away with a lot of dumb shit because most of the time nobody's even looking for them (or checking the map to see them doing massive flanks for some reason)
That is the only time frontlining works well for me. Hugging a wall and just walking over their ink is always funny, and seems to work oddly well. But if their backliner is paying attention, now I'm just fricked from all directions.
If they ever give the squelcher a wavebreaker though, I'm never gonna bother playing short range again. It'll be too nice.
I think they tried adding 2 brand new maps instead of 1 new and 1 port to soften the blow of the catalogue but then forgot everyone hates the maps by default and just want better dressup options.

You gotta be fricking kidding me. This is what we get for the one-year anniversary? It's almost worth than nothing, the only silver lining is that different colors will make for better wardrobe possibilities. Do I even need to ask if the stores will get anything? Answer's already no. Good lord, there is SO MUCH shit to bring back from previous games, too. Even if they were too damn lazy to think up new fashion, at least bringing back gear I really wanted to see again would've been nice. The whole "adjust gear" thing is almost guaranteed to be nowhere near as comprehensive as it should be. We really thought Booyah Base just being a reskin was the worst they could do, but damn. Literally the only thing to look forward to is Big Run, and maybe salmonid smokeyard if you're a huge masochist. People have said it'll be easier with egg throws. Until we see how bad a high tide with 3 fish sticks running rampant is, I'm not so sure.
Probably the worst thing is that another splatfest so soon will give them the perfect excuse for not having Splatoween during Spooktober. That one was gonna be a given, but now I'm not so sure.
Yea new season is looking kind of lame, but SR-wise we're getting 2 new weapons to play with and a whole new grizzco weapon too. I'm looking forward to that
What, the 2 new weapons? I'm curious at least to see what they'll be like in fish frick mode. Grizz Dualies sounds nice, but I'm curious as to how that'll work. Maybe they'll let you roll like 10 times in a row. That way I can feel like the frickers I play against that literally float around the stage 90% of the time.

It seems impossible to get into. I want to play against real people but I don't know anyone that plays. I understand why they didn't add matchmaking for it because you'd be waiting like an hour for a game but it kind of kills the mode for me.
The AI provides an easy way to get into it. With progressively stronger opponents and decks. And the more you play a character, you'll unlock their 2nd and 3rd AI level. Harmony at level 3 kicked my ass repeatedly until I got gud.
The level 3 AI literally cheats. It's not unbeatable but it does know exactly what you're going to do next.
I just beat level 3 Li'l Judd twice in a row.
Only 28 more and I'll get his card sleeve.
That grind is ridiculous, frick that. I wouldn't mind playing against real people but they still haven't set up random online battles yet. I don't want to have to join a pool of tableturf autists to play online.
I'll get in a couple weeks with just 2 victories a day. Just play more casually, man. No need to have everything before everyone else. What will that profit you?
