SO3 mogs it in literally everything.
Gameplay, music, length, areas, crafting effects, post game length. >magic freezes the flow of battle
lol
SO2gays seem to think the story of their game is great, when the reality is the story of every single SO game is bottom of the barrel generic animu shit of ancient evil has awakened, ESPECIALLY for 2, the same tier as Tales.
3 tried something different but I can understand why that filtered half the fanbase.
You play them for the fun gameplay.
I like 3 too, but i also understand why people liked the flair of 1 and 2 would be put off, it's a bit of a change in looks and presentation. I'm personally not a big fan of 1 and 2 for that reason, but i recognize they're enjoyable games.
Anamnesis. >Can actually play multiplayer with your friends instead of moronic AI >Some of the most fluid, fastest paced combat in the series >Can seamlessly chain between killer moves/spells, as well as dash out of them when you need to dodge >Have to think about your MP instead of just spamming mindlessly, since dodging consumes MP so you have to gauge whether you're safe to go all in or if you have to hold 10-20 AP back for a dodge >Party composition actually matters, with most characters having 2-4 partywide passive buffs you have to think about what buffs your allies aren't already covering >Playing a healer is actually fun since it's not just sit around waiting for your party to get hit and then pressing the Heal button
By far the best raw gameplay in the series, only held back by the fact that it was mobile exclusive, and the gacha system being a typical shitty gacha system where certain characters were limited time only.
>no felpool >no e-girl >censored women >troony characters >get stuck on one planet only confirmed >shitty framerate >worse gameplay than tales >worse story than trails >worse graphics than previous star ocean >worse characters than xenoblade 3 >worse demo than valkyrie elysium >literally zero budget again >no switch version >company dying >ZERO HYPE >DEAD ON ARRIVAL
OH NO NO NO TRI-ACE JUST COMMITED SUICIDE HAHAHAHAHAHA
gameplay than tales
stopped reading there, it looked way more fun to play than tales I don't care what any review says, Tales has absolutely garbage combat
>get stuck on one planet only confirmed
Pretty insane that the only game in that franchise that actually had more than one planet with multiple fields was The Last Hope of all games. It's like if Xenoblade 2 was leaving you stuck on a single titan.
They should change the name of the franchise because you never fricking explore a star ocean in those.
>Star Ocean 2 has two planets though, and they both have world maps and multiple locations.
Star Ocean 3 did too, but you were stuck on one planet for 80% of the game
Well there was the prologue planet, the initial other planet where you first land, the main planet, 4D land, and some other place I can barely remember but it was at the start of the build up to the twist.
Anonymous
was the prologue one even a planet? it looked like some sort of colony / ship thing since there was just an hotel and that beach which IIRC was artificial >the initial other planet where you first land
that one is just a town and a cave where you meet Cliff
the games call them planets but forr all intents and purposes, they are barely one town's worth of exploration.

>some other place I can barely remember but it was at the start of the build up to the twist
That was the moonbase. But even then there was so little I almost forgot about every other location except the 4d place

Not even Star Ocean is free of crazy anons
When sales data gets out we will also have a big influx of people entering threads and talking how it isnt selling as much as persona or xenoblade
You're full of shit for the gameplay but I do agree with the designs. The SO gacha had elder god tier character models so I have no idea why they're such a downgrade in this.
It is good but i dont think it is really different from what we have now(aside Raymond that is terrible)
In a actual game creating this type of model is probably a lot harder because it isnt just a set number of animations from a gacha game, you also need to do things like lipsinc...
The fact that it mirrors academic grading is not our fault, it's the way things are scored. Game publishers have ad contracts with major media publications that basically stipulate their games cannot receive lower than a 7 so long as they are working games, which is pretty much all games these days. It's very, very rare that we get something like Alien Colonel Marines or Final Fantasy XIV 1.0. So, when 7 is basically the lowest score a working game can get, it's not a good score, it means it's a notch above failing. You think "wow, that's still pretty good" because that's what you're supposed to think. Because reviews are ads for products, and you are a mindless consumer. You never stop to realize that the bottom half of the review scale is virtually unused. I can think of 3 instances when I've ever seen a meta below 5.0.
Shouldn't HALF of all games be below 5 if you think the scale is purely linear metrics? Viewing it in terms of academics is thus correct, because that is how the scale has been used by reviewers.
Still one of the lowest scores they've handed out to a major release (and calling GK a major release is being very generous for your argument)
Go find me the 1-4s, please. I'll wait. I won't wait long because there aren't any.

I don't think I've ever seen a 1-4. Is a major release any game with production and marketing budget of at least $50M?
Primary complaints sound like bugs and serious performance issues, so yeah, this is a 7 if it were not for merely technical problems

>The oddly brief campaign is padded out with busywork. >Combat in Gotham Knights is one of the worst parts about it. >My gear almost never lined up with what I wanted to do. >Many missions feel like they’re balanced specifically for two crime fighters. >Performance issues range from amusing bugs to annoying hindrances.
The last and shortest section of the review covers performance issues.
https://www.ign.com/articles/gotham-knights-review
much like bank ratings where being A/AA/AAA is top level yet landing a B is already concerning enough, you don't need to go C/D full junk status for people to start thinking twice about you
Time jannies is a valid complaint because they were a fricking moronic, self-indulgent plot contrivance, and even if they're now gone, they still tainted the experience. You can never erase that they WERE part of the remake. Other annoyances include how frustratingly slow and padded everything was in order to stretch out what was a short few hour experience in the original to a full length game. Hojo's lab in particular stands out. The horrific graphical issues of the original release (even if it was eventually fixed in the port for later gen consoles, the original experience is still marred, and still unfixed on PS4). And lastly they kneecapped the character of Sephiroth by immediately introducing him in the story and repeatedly having him show up to antagonize and spook Cloud like some B-grade horror movie monster; simultaneously spoiling the significant build up of his character in the original, and the whole plot point of Cloud's memory and identity issues.
To be fair, Sephiroth was mentioned about 40 mins into the original which is actually sooner then he comes up in the remake. But I do agree they overused him. My main gripe with remake is how its so linear and so funneling. Feels more like Uncharted then FF.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1451080/DUNGEON_ENCOUNTERS/
they made the best jrpg of all time last year
while forgetting to make graphics for the game angering normies
squeenix is cooked
this game is absolutely based, people who were filtered just have no imagination.
Sell me on it, only heard about it for the first time yesterday but seems interesting
This game is AWFUL, legit one of the worst game I played, it's basically a dungeon crawler so basic that it doesn't even feature spells or MP (it has spells but they aren't spells in the classic sense, they are treated like a 2nd different kind of weapon) there are no graphics outside of a map that looks like it was drawn by one dude obsessed with D&D
The OST is made out of one guy who plays rock version of classical music that are ear splitting and everytime you start a battle, you have to hear the same 5 notes of "night on bald mountain" and you slowly go insane
Avoid Avoid Avoid
The gameplay is top tier however they if only they had some basic battle sprites it would have done worlds better. nothing but laziness prevented this.
All you need to know about this game is what it looks like graphically.
Then you go to steam and look at its system requirements.
Yes, the minimum for Star Ocean is massively higher than Elden Ring's recommended.
No, this game is not actually open world. It is all large areas separated by loading screens.
For something that generally doesn't appeal to people 74 is pretty decent. People usually deduct points for the typical crappy Star Ocean story and or terrible voice acting which is something I forgive because the gameplay is great.
gimme gimme gimme
Did you play it after Japanese voices were available? A big hit to SO4's release in the west was it didn't have JP voices in original release, only later ones. And the english voices were worse than 4kids tier.
Modern Square is incapable of creating good games, they no longer know what makes a game good or not. Not even Dragon Quest is all that great anymore. Not that it ever was the fricking pinnacle it was just JP Nostalgia. Stop giving them money.
>A report in the Japanese industry news outlet Gamebiz suggests that tri-Ace, developer of the Star Ocean and Valkyrie Profile series, is having financial difficulties. In essence, the disclosures show that despite turning an operating profit of more than 171 million yen (about $1.18 million USD), project cancellations, development delays, and a lack of new work coming in resulted in an overall loss of more than 684 million yen (about $4.73 million USD). Sales also amounted to about 1.25 billion yen (about $8.64 million USD), though this figure is down 42% from the previous year. The Gamebiz report suggested that tri-Ace is currently insolvent, or unable to pay off outstanding loans.
When this is supposed to be the designated hot girl for this Star Ocean, whose only risqué design cure is her cleavage, you know Tri-Ace had to reign themselves compared to previous installments.
>Why did SE release so many JRPGs together?
Covid probably pushed them to be together, along with no big releases so they had no choice, and most are low-budget titles so they want to see what works and what doesn't.
This, we already know they have a new saga, mana, octopath, forspoken(lmao), ff16, FF7 rebirth, ff9 remake, probably new parasite eve, ff tactics remaster
These are all major games for the next 1-2 years, they need to release the small ones before
Sorry but I can't defend any Star Ocean after TEoT either. Maybe this one's dufferent, but the previous ones were boring, uninspired and unpolished messes obviously made to make a quick buck off the Tales Of fans.
Combat is pretty much the only thing Star Ocean as a series has going for it, not even hardcore SO gays can praise the cast and story with a straight face in any of the games.
No, he was fairly certain talking about Star Ocean, Tales literally holds japanese fairs where thirsty fujos just want to see to their favorite male characters do silly shit with their VAs, nothing of sorts ever happened with Star Ocean, not a single character had ever amounted to any sort of popularity to earn a fan base of their own to the point Tri-Ace holds conventions based around them.
The second game is the one most people know
The skill system where you learn all sort of shit (there's even a skill called "divination" which let you talk with the game programmer) and the crafting system (which at the time was a unique concept) are cool, the character are fun too and include this mechanical e-girl and a guy cursed to have 2 dragons on his shoulder which he use for special attack
The series sorta died after the third game even though square-enix seems fixated to keep it going

Hm. The Last Remnant is a SaGa game. If you are unfamiliar with SaGa, this means nothing to you. If you are familiar then you know that
(bad greentexting and bad English ahead) >there is no level up >instead, you get stats after fights, and you spark (learn) skills during the combat >here you also upgrade skills in combat (the more you use them, the better they become) >this game has BR; BR is battle rank and every few fights BR goes up >higher BR means that enemies will become stronger, but do not worry - this doesn't mean you should avoid fights, instead, you fight in the area you're in as long as you get stats >after you stop receiving stats or learn new skills, stop fighting in that area >it is always better to ''mark'' several enemies on the map and start fight against them then to start a fight against a single enemy group >as long as you start a fight with a great disadvantage aka low morale, THE BETTER (it means there is a high chance of learning / sparking new skills and/or stats going up) >Mr. Dig is useful, very useful, use him in every dig location (there is no downside of using him) >when a party member asks you to go and look for material he or she needs, say yes, but in most cases just ignore them after this lol >NEVER and I mean never try to make a group specifically for healing; it's better to have 1 or 2 healrs in every group / union than try and make one that is focused on healing >use leaders only, frick off soldiers >use characters who have Hex skills; later in the game you will learn good shit like Cachexia which is almost a must have against soem stronger bosses >the more sidequests you do, the stronger your last battle will be (this is no joke, if you do all sidequests, the last boss will be hard) >always talk to NPCs as a simple conversation can make new area to appear, or quest, etc.
And yes, do not play X360 version.

I am aware of the SaGa series, but never played any one of them. Takai, XVI's director used to work with them before moving to XIV. From what I understood, SaGa is a lot "harder" than your regular JRPG. And no, I'm installing the PC version. Don't know which version its based off though. Anyways, thanks.

>From what I understood, SaGa is a lot "harder" than your regular JRPG.
It really isn't, it's just...different. I mean, recent remasters (like Romancing SaGa 2 and 3) added NG+ which can be started at any point, aka if you think you fricked up you can always restart the game while keeping the equipment you previously obtained and skills you learned.
You really can't screw yourself over in TLR. I played it without even knowing wtf is battle rank and I beat it.
PC version is more polished, and current gen versions (PS4 and Switch, not sure if there's Xbox version) are based off PC version as far as I know. You're good.
Anonymous
SaGa's harder in the sense that it uses unusual systems and there's a lot of mechanical depth, but like all games, you can just trim down the necessary knowledge to just a couple of things if you want to beat the games, which also applies to TLR, most of the depth in the games is just for RP flavour, or flexing.
Most people get filtered by SaGa because it doesn't treat you like a mentally impaired bonobo, you'll have to learn how to play on your own and pay attention, if that's what you like then the series will be pretty easy and enjoyable to you, if you dislike using your head then you'll probably hate the games and think they're bullshit.

4 Last Hope was fun, didn't try 5, End of Eternity

This is like a 89 for Star Ocean, if you think the game would receive a 80 with that ammount of jank, you're kinda stupid
Also, the game is literally one point away from a green score

RIP Triace, it's been fun
The truth is that Nier's writting is what made it popular
VE is a solid action game, but nothing beyond that, people will play it, have fun and go on
It isnt like nier where people will constantly talk about the narrative
Really?
2b's butt was good marketing but the combat was always just flashy, what made nier popular in the mainstream was the story
Only here people mostly talk about porn of 2B
It is kinda funny when you enter these threads just to see metacritic psychos trying to have takes about studios, franchises and business models of companies they have no idea about
Like, any moron who thinks 74 is bad for Star Ocean already needs to be disconsidered
I played the first few hours but I'm stuck at work. I haven't even got to the part after the demo but the performance is much better and I'm enjoying it a lot.
This game was pretty fun. Could have used a balance adjustment. The haste spell was beyond broken.
It should have been a $40 release so sequel chances are slim.
Because talent. A company doesn't make things, the people working for them are.
In this case, the game has character design by the Street Fighter guy.
It is very good as far as the drawings go
The problem is whoever is doing those ingame character models. I prefer these dolls over realistic photoscanned crap, but yes it could have been better, closer to the original character design.
Still not sure if i should buy it or not. 60-70€ seems a bit much to spend considering that 4 was dogpiss and 5 while being better still was mediocre at best.
Seems like a lot of cash to play coinflip
>assassinating a game with sexy art
The game itself is already doing that without outside interference, Akira Nishitani's art is being raped with the horrible in-game models.
It sucks the face models are horrible but they approved sexy art.
>at least they put some fanservice.
Where? This Star Ocean is sanitized as hell, it got CERO B in Japan.
Sexy art is approved to be modeled sad no e-girl and don't know how heavy fanservice will be since Cero B as you said which is reason I didn't bother to buy it. C would've been acceptable but that swimsuit girl isn't playable also.

I'm glad that they're bad and that this game is far from being awful.
>Resonance of Fate
Anon mentioned End of Eternity. That is a japanese name for Resonance of Fate.
Star ocean 5
I played that game. (I forgot to add in my previous post, NTA. I am not the anon you originally replied to)
The game is...weird. It would be decent if I didn't have to lose/git party member every time I go from town to town for absolutely no reason.
>no cringy e-girl and shota characters >main character doesn't look like a twink >still has superior titty monsters
I will now buy your Star Ocean game.
They were always the cringiest most annoying characters outside of Peppita so I don't know why you wouldn't.
The one from SO4 completely ruined the game.
Lymle and Meracle were both great, in Japanese. English dubbed e-girls are always terrible because westerners don't understand the trope.
For me, it was Sarah who ruined the party dynamic, and also came at the worst part of the game where space exploration died in favor of generic fantasy bait and switch that Star Ocean always does.
I got three of their games coming up, Star Ocean, Harvestella, and TO remake.
They can get my money easy; make RPGs and not action games starring Black folk.
>I don't care about cancer infesting everything just give me my goyslop

I've liked SE's demos lately. But now I have too many games of theirs I wanna get. And I hate having backlogs. Not to mention the holiday sales season is coming. I may grab more of them when the sales hit than right away or I may not. I really only like having that one game I'm playing rather than grabbing a bunch and watching them collect dust for months or years.
Harvestella was the only real gamble on there for me but I am desperate for a Rune Factory/STV type new game even if the focus isn't farming.
TO remake looks amazing as frick and the VA reveals have been kino.
Nah, they still die pretty fast if you know what you're doing. I feel like the hardest available difficulty is how you're supposed to play it.
There's still a few enemies you have to be careful of though, like the a mini boss in the world map.
Either way, it's a jrpg. You can pretty much control your own difficulty by controlling your levels.
This game is out? I remember seeing hype discussion for a new Star Ocean game a while ago but then never heard anything after. Did they just not market it at all?
So far what I see is that the gameplay is fun, the difficulty is easy, so changing it to hard should at least be normal (like in DQ11), there are plenty things to do/collect/etc and that the story is serviceable enough.
I mean it's looking pretty good for a star ocean game. I'll definitely pick it up later.
it's a one time thing and it takes forever. Some games prefer to load all the shaders the game needs to shorten loads inside the game. You'll see emulators do this a lot too.
Those breasts are out of this world!! Get it...? Because they're like stars and stuff, looks like a galaxy. So saying they're out of this world because they look like space.
I've played 1 and 3, they're supposed to be set in the same "universe" right? 3's twist was fricking weird and kind of moronic. Does that twist apply to the first game too?
They're all in the same universe. I don't really get why people dislike the twist. The 4D beings are basically gods. Just like Christians believe God made the universe, in this setting the 4D beings made the universe of the games. Just like there are stories of Greek gods playing a board game that controls mortals and their fates, the universe is like a simulation to the 4D beings. Some people act like the 4D beings were normal humans that the universe of SO was just running on an Oculus Quest.
not as moronic as you buying AA games for $60. >b-but i want to own my games

>Please tell me it's not that moronic ALL PARTY MEMBERS IN BATTLE AT ONCE that was in the last blunder.
I never played it, but what's wrong with every party member at once?
Not him but in terms of the last game, the system was based on an RPS system of predicting and reacting to enemy attacks yet the whole screen was constant explosions and other effects so you basically just spammed specials the whole time.
Yeah, that does sound like a nightmare, but an issue with too many specials going on instead of something inherent to having your whole party on the field at once
reminder this moron simps hard for the new Valkyrie game. He's a complete moron and it sucks a green Meta gets dragged into yellow just because of one fat moron like this.
This is something people should look for when seeing reviews. See what else they've reviewed. I think it's telling what kind of taste a person has based on their past scores.
>try out demo >"oh this is pretty fun and chill" >fps is not 60 locked

the last hope was on ps3 and that had better performance than this fricking game
is the full game actually stable though?
i'd get this game on a sale if that was the case. i really enjoyed the last hope gameplay wise. story and voice acting was shit tho.
Fair point, actually. SO and Tales were the first two series that had item pics and descriptions that I played. Now that's more normal but it felt so advanced then.
Valkyrie Profile was good for most of its existence before being sent to mobile purgatory. I think I was just in cope mode, always desperately hoping "just give them one more chance, you'll see" thinking the last couple SO games were flukes.
The highest rated star ocean, that is considered a masterpiece, received a 80 as metacritic
What the frick do you want?
Aaarff, aarff...
I want these games, but the reviewer overlords told me I should spend my money on games made by their friends instead...
Artf, aarrf, they command, I obey...
This is unironically true
It would mean either they trashed away their whole identity or they received abnormal amounts of money
The first one is more probable
I'm sick of the Tales series. No, that doesn't mean >durr they need to stop making new ones
I should just stop playing them. Just like I stopped listenitn to Iron Maiden after Brave New World, but that's a whole another conversation.
Arise, Berseria, Innocence, are just few (somewhat) latest Tales games that I just can't play. Even some idiotic RPGs have the start, the middle, and the end, no matter how bad the script is. In most Tales you don't even know why are you doing the thing you're supposed to do. There is no real motive to anything.
>but its nowhere near the worst either.
Not the worst but it's definitely worse than all of the actual good Tales games. It's below average even with all the shittier games bringing that average down. It's honestly even worse than Zesteria.
>It's honestly even worse than Zesteria.
That is a fricking lie and you know it

It is not, they both have terrible main parties with boring and contrived dynamics, uninteresting stories that go nowhere. Arise has to be one of the worst cases of forced shipping I've ever seen in a game. Outside of the main 2 the party has zero fricking chemistry with each other and are literally brute forced into romance by the writers hand without bothering to justify it. Only thing is Arise somehow manages to have even worse combat. Literally the only positive quality Arise has is the graphics and visual design. It's awful in every other way. Even calling it a 5/10 is generous.
I think people shit on it here because it's a huge success. >thought Graces was fun but disliked the MC and the plot >started to really have issues with from Xillia onwards >hated the copy/paste shit in Xillia 2, loved the combat though >dropped zestiria, first time i dropped a Tales games >never even bothered with Beseria because was still pissed off at the series >give series one last chance with Arise >enjoyed it enough but felt it fell of towards the end
I just wish they'd bring back all the fun side shit the series used to have and a world map to explore.
>but its nowhere near the worst either.
Not the worst but it's definitely worse than all of the actual good Tales games. It's below average even with all the shittier games bringing that average down. It's honestly even worse than Zesteria.
>I think people shit on it here because it's a huge success.
No, people shit on it because it has the worst gameplay in the entire series. >cancerous Dark Souls dodge roll that blatantly doesn't mesh with anything else in the combat system >hyper armour out the ass so you can't even do anything fun without the enemy just hitting you out of it
You mentioned dropping Zersteria but Arise was the only game in the series I've ever dropped. It might genuinely be one of the worst games in the series. Literally Symophonia 2 tier.
It's so bizarre if you check a bayonetta thread they're saying it got an 89 it sucks, worst scoring bayonetta in the series.
And here we get a 74 and we're like, hey that's really high.
>Because there is a limit to how much a budget rpg can get as score >Just SO's character models already cuts it from receiving a 80
This, just the usual jank these types of rpgs have, like bad optimization, already makes it drop to 70. Journos cant take it
Bayonetta is prime target for doomposting because of recent drama and Nintendo exclusivity. Star Oxean getting 74 is a breath of fresh air after 2 (arguably 3 fornsome people) garbage games
It's in line with the rest of the series which is in the 70-80 range on metacritc, aside from SO5 which has like a 55.
SO6 isn't SO5 so that is already great for the series.
Dragon Quest Heroes 2 has 6/10 user score on Steam. I don't know if PC version is fricked, or if people hate it, but I'm playing it on PS4 (along with new Star Ocean, and Picross S8 on NSW) and I fricking love the game.
You should really stop caring about
1. Metacritic
2. shitposters on this site who don't even play games but have the urge to post in every thread because reasons
This took like an hour to complete. It used up all my cpu while it was going and counted as playtime. I hope it doesn't have to do this shader shit everytime I start the game or everytime there's an update.
This is a decent enough score. Everyone knows that putting anime tiddies in your game removes the usual 5-10 scoring metric and brings it to a 1-8 instead.
only got to play for 30 before I had to go back to Waging@Home. >faces are weird, everyone looks like dolls >MC sounds like a chadlord and talks like one, but has a Downs face >combat is fun and looks like it will get REALLY good when you have enough moves to really pimp out the custom combos (you get three strings of three each, with a 4th move going on the button being held) >Ghetto sphere grid >you gotta remove blur; it makes the game look like shit. I didn't figure that out until I was done playing for now
all in all boys, my body is ready for JARPIG weekend.
One of the first skills I learned was >princess gets minus on DEF but party members git more EXP
Helps a lot, especially since I'm playing on Universe. And since my buddy who shared the account got Deluxe there are also some seriously OP items with it, at least for this stage of the game, but I refuse to use them.
>Read throught he """negative reviews""" >One is someone rambling about how its not star ocean 2 >Another moron talking about """replay value""" in a jrpg >And the other one is IGN talking about dated mechanics and interface issues
Allmost none of them are actually credible and made by people that actually play jrpgs, like wow
I've been playing since yesterday and this game is pretty enjoyable, its not a SO5 situation for sure. There are LOTS of big environments & a LOT of towns. Its really fun to zoom around with DUMA and find hidden shit/run along roofs, etc. theres a great sense of verticality to the game early on. it actually feels like an adventure IMO
the story is a bit slow so far and i havent really completely grasped the battles completely yet but its better than I was expecting
Stranger of Paradise got similar and its the best game I've played this year. The 70s is niche game territory for chads instead of mass appeal casual games.
So this really isnt focused on space-faring like SO4 was?
I just want comfy planet exploration. I’m not expecting Mass Effect, just not generic high fantasy
The fact that the options on pc are prioritize framerate or prioritize graphics like it's a console game is telling. You can customize it more after you make that choice though.
>muh controls
why bother using literally any pad besides xbox or at the very least dualshock/sense if you got a PS4/5?
there are a bajillion ching chong controllers out there, of course you're gonna have problems mapping it to 300 different games.
>muh controls

Steam should prevent any user whose PC does not meet the minimum requirements to be barred from posting a Review, many times Jap devs can't do satisfactory PC ports but there is a lot of rats with 13+ year old toasters complaining their shit can't run a game properly.
They don't give any context when you choose your character at the beginning. I know what their backstory is because I've been following the game's development but any new person just starting the game has no basis on whether they should choose the boy or girl when starting.
pick either, you'll probably want to play it again anyway
just expect the game from Claude's perspective being an adventure trip trying to look cool, while Rena's is a goody-two shoes curious about the world solving problems and shit
also, the other will join your party soon enough and will stay permanent despite leaving temporarily for a few events here and there
also, there are enough different things going on to justify playing it all over again with the other protagonist
I thought it was just okay but it can get annoying. Like post game crafting for resources annoying trying to gather magical clay(?) and other post game shit. >played it again recently >got super pissed I missed ONE missable chest somehow >spent hours post game making gear, notably the super tri-emblum
Post-game made for a decent mindlessly grind while watching youtube videos game.
NOTHING CAN BEAT SQUARE
That seems alright? Star Ocean has been mediocre for at least three gens, at least it's not another V.
There has never been a good Star Ocean game other than 2
SO3 mogs it in literally everything.
Anamnesis.
>Can actually play multiplayer with your friends instead of moronic AI
>Some of the most fluid, fastest paced combat in the series
>Can seamlessly chain between killer moves/spells, as well as dash out of them when you need to dodge
>Have to think about your MP instead of just spamming mindlessly, since dodging consumes MP so you have to gauge whether you're safe to go all in or if you have to hold 10-20 AP back for a dodge
>Party composition actually matters, with most characters having 2-4 partywide passive buffs you have to think about what buffs your allies aren't already covering
>Playing a healer is actually fun since it's not just sit around waiting for your party to get hit and then pressing the Heal button
By far the best raw gameplay in the series, only held back by the fact that it was mobile exclusive, and the gacha system being a typical shitty gacha system where certain characters were limited time only.
Star Ocean was always like that
>no felpool
>no e-girl
>censored women
>troony characters
>get stuck on one planet only confirmed
>shitty framerate
>worse gameplay than tales
>worse story than trails
>worse graphics than previous star ocean
>worse characters than xenoblade 3
>worse demo than valkyrie elysium
>literally zero budget again
>no switch version
>company dying
>ZERO HYPE
>DEAD ON ARRIVAL
OH NO NO NO TRI-ACE JUST COMMITED SUICIDE HAHAHAHAHAHA
gameplay than tales
stopped reading there, it looked way more fun to play than tales I don't care what any review says, Tales has absolutely garbage combat
>Tales has absolutely garbage combat
i did the calculations and you are 100% correct, sir.
>get stuck on one planet only confirmed
Pretty insane that the only game in that franchise that actually had more than one planet with multiple fields was The Last Hope of all games. It's like if Xenoblade 2 was leaving you stuck on a single titan.
They should change the name of the franchise because you never fricking explore a star ocean in those.
Star Ocean 2 has two planets though, and they both have world maps and multiple locations.
>Star Ocean 2 has two planets though, and they both have world maps and multiple locations.
Star Ocean 3 did too, but you were stuck on one planet for 80% of the game
and the 4D "planet" was literally three or so rooms with shops, minigames and the entrance to a dungeon.
Well there was the prologue planet, the initial other planet where you first land, the main planet, 4D land, and some other place I can barely remember but it was at the start of the build up to the twist.
was the prologue one even a planet? it looked like some sort of colony / ship thing since there was just an hotel and that beach which IIRC was artificial
>the initial other planet where you first land
that one is just a town and a cave where you meet Cliff
the games call them planets but forr all intents and purposes, they are barely one town's worth of exploration.
>some other place I can barely remember but it was at the start of the build up to the twist
That was the moonbase. But even then there was so little I almost forgot about every other location except the 4d place
>worse story than trails
>worse gameplay than tales
which one?
the dark souls gameplay from arise?
damn, SO7 going to have the best gameplay then
Don't forget
>Denuvo
characters
Really?
If it's true I'm not buying it, even if it is Star Ocean.
poor bby
ywnbaw
its true.
>troony characters
Evidence? Which character?
He is talking about the one in his mind
Yep, that's what I thought, too.
So far, I think this game is "woke-free" according to the info I gather, so I already bought it.
It's probably just a salty fan of some other game that seethes that this game is free of it while his favourite game is pozzed as shit so he has to falseflag to stop people from being able to enjoy it.
Not even Star Ocean is free of crazy anons
When sales data gets out we will also have a big influx of people entering threads and talking how it isnt selling as much as persona or xenoblade
Also
>Worse designs than Star Ocean gacha
>Worse gameplay than SO5 and Valkyrie Elysium
gameplay than SO5 and Valkyrie Elysium
lmao
lol
kek
now this is falseflagging
You're full of shit for the gameplay but I do agree with the designs. The SO gacha had elder god tier character models so I have no idea why they're such a downgrade in this.
Can you give some examples of the gacha models?
I don't have any saved but there's one posted in this thread.
It is good but i dont think it is really different from what we have now(aside Raymond that is terrible)
In a actual game creating this type of model is probably a lot harder because it isnt just a set number of animations from a gacha game, you also need to do things like lipsinc...
metacritic should really drop the Red/yellow/green colours for scores, it's moronic that a 7.4/10 game is considered yellow aka "mediocre to okay"
70 is close to a failing grade, sry you failed school
> He still thinks of things based on school
How young are you?
Viewing it in terms of academics is thus correct, because that is how the scale has been used by reviewers.
>cannot receive lower than a 7 so long as they are working games
Well...
The last and shortest section of the review covers performance issues.
https://www.ign.com/articles/gotham-knights-review
much like bank ratings where being A/AA/AAA is top level yet landing a B is already concerning enough, you don't need to go C/D full junk status for people to start thinking twice about you
the color is right
critics overrating games is the rule rather than the exception
it's the reason I don't really like using a 10 point scale
This will be Sonic Frontier's score as well.
>western critiques of JRPG kino
Irrelevant
>for PS4
>only results for PS5 in amazon and mediamarkt
wtf
Outside of FFVII they can only produce mediocre schlock
The only FFVII related thing they produced that wasn't mediocre schlock was the original game.
>t.
Crisis Core was pretty decent
How many games is SE even releasing this year, I’ve lost travk
about 30
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1451080/DUNGEON_ENCOUNTERS/
they made the best jrpg of all time last year
while forgetting to make graphics for the game angering normies
squeenix is cooked
this game is absolutely based, people who were filtered just have no imagination.
Filtered.
No don't you get it? It's good because it's shit and everyone hates it so it owns le normies wormies
The gameplay is top tier however they if only they had some basic battle sprites it would have done worlds better. nothing but laziness prevented this.
They're asking money for an excel spreadsheet?
it is a very fun excel spreadsheet anon
lol it's Unlimited Saga but without the soul
You must fricking LOVE unlimited SaGa
I love this game, I got all the achievements and played through it twice.
However, I'm autistic so take that into consideration.
People usually deduct points for the typical crappy Star Ocean story and or terrible voice acting which is something I forgive because the gameplay is great.
gimme gimme gimme
read the actual reviews
even the most casual and clueless to JRPGs reviewers are complaining about how dogshit easy the combat is
Well, that's not good...
Oh well. Maybe it's still fun. It's not I have money laying around to buy it so I'd have to pirate it eventually
>bend the knee to westoid Twitter freaks
>every game bombs
Well deserved.
I can't believe square turned snivy gay
Dissidia

Dead franchise, never to rise again.
>there are plenty of other better JRPGs to play this year.
like what, i'm curious
Isnt that a good thing? Its higher tham r and 5
The absolute sta of sonyshills
IT'S OVER
Should I play the remake or the original if I want to get into star ocean
Remake of what? You can play any of the star ocean games since the stories are pretty standalone with each other.
Star ocean First Departure vs the original
There's no reason to play the original. It's a much worse game than FR.
FD*
>the last hope got a 72
i actually liked "the last hope" so this is a pretty good score for me
Did you play it after Japanese voices were available? A big hit to SO4's release in the west was it didn't have JP voices in original release, only later ones. And the english voices were worse than 4kids tier.
>voices
I turned voice acting off entirely in 4. Both English and Japanese voices were too grating.
i didn't like the japanese one either.
i could have ripped my ears off with lymle and sarah's voice acting
SO3 is the best game ever
I'm sorry but what? They released a new star ocean? What the frick?
Modern Square is incapable of creating good games, they no longer know what makes a game good or not. Not even Dragon Quest is all that great anymore. Not that it ever was the fricking pinnacle it was just JP Nostalgia. Stop giving them money.
Still buying every DQ game that isn't fricking gachashit which is all we've gotten for like 4 whole years.
It's funny how even games made by different companies but published by Square Enix have the same low quality to them.
NEO TWEWY and Strangers of Paradise were pretty good.

It's over.
>tri-Ace is currently insolvent, or unable to pay off outstanding loans.
That means their stock will be really low...
Why did SE release so many JRPGs together?
Also how is Elysium?
When this is supposed to be the designated hot girl for this Star Ocean, whose only risqué design cure is her cleavage, you know Tri-Ace had to reign themselves compared to previous installments.
That's not the designated hot girl though
You may have missed the artbook.
the designated hot one is the elf looking chick as always
>Why did SE release so many JRPGs together?
Covid probably pushed them to be together, along with no big releases so they had no choice, and most are low-budget titles so they want to see what works and what doesn't.
This, we already know they have a new saga, mana, octopath, forspoken(lmao), ff16, FF7 rebirth, ff9 remake, probably new parasite eve, ff tactics remaster
These are all major games for the next 1-2 years, they need to release the small ones before
>ff tactics remaster
tell me more of this
Nvidia leak, everything there happened 100%
The only thing still missing is ff9 remake and tactics
> Critics don't like yet another JRPG
What a surprise.
Trails and Tales aren’t rejected this much even by trash journos, Star Ocean is just not good enough.
Sorry but I can't defend any Star Ocean after TEoT either. Maybe this one's dufferent, but the previous ones were boring, uninspired and unpolished messes obviously made to make a quick buck off the Tales Of fans.
So are start ocean games good? I have never played one but do they compare with other jrpgs ion space like phantasy star?
Combat is pretty much the only thing Star Ocean as a series has going for it, not even hardcore SO gays can praise the cast and story with a straight face in any of the games.
You're confusing this with tales.
No, he was fairly certain talking about Star Ocean, Tales literally holds japanese fairs where thirsty fujos just want to see to their favorite male characters do silly shit with their VAs, nothing of sorts ever happened with Star Ocean, not a single character had ever amounted to any sort of popularity to earn a fan base of their own to the point Tri-Ace holds conventions based around them.
>mentally ill fujos are the benchmark for good characterization and writing
jesus christ
Even if Star Ocean can't even have that, yes.
There's not a single tales game who even got close to SO2 in terms of story and characters.
Yes, Tri-Ace wished they had an audience of females this engaged and ready to spend their money on merch.
2&3 are worth playing because they're actually good jrpgs.
Run like hell if you see a game after those coming into your field of vision
>3
lol garbage
kek nice try trying to sneak that trash in
The second game is the one most people know
The skill system where you learn all sort of shit (there's even a skill called "divination" which let you talk with the game programmer) and the crafting system (which at the time was a unique concept) are cool, the character are fun too and include this mechanical e-girl and a guy cursed to have 2 dragons on his shoulder which he use for special attack
The series sorta died after the third game even though square-enix seems fixated to keep it going
>there's even a skill called "divination" which let you talk with the game programmer
wut
fricking soul, that's why i love SO
i wish theyd port and release the remake of 2 in the west
>e-girl
What? She's a teenager.
e-girl is a body type.
She doesn't really look like a e-girl to me.
This is a e-girl.
She looks older in the original art.
Also jesus, never noticed how fricking flat the newer one looks.
I really like the combat but the story and characters are fairly poor, Tails or Arise is much better imo.
>People legitimately thought it would be good this time, despite dev track record

>66 Metacritic score
lmao
TLR filtered basically everyone expecting a standard JRPG. It has some very complex systems.
>The Last Remnant
I finished it a year ago and it's one of my favorite games of all time. A 9 easily.
Frick SE but I like Tri Ace at least they put some fanservice.
>at least they put some fanservice.
Where? This Star Ocean is sanitized as hell, it got CERO B in Japan.
>>The Last Remnant
>I finished it a year ago and it's one of my favorite games of all time. A 9 easily.
I bought and played X360, Switch, and PS4 versions. Got plat on PS4.
Any score lower than 8/10 is complete bs and the ''reviewer'' was filtered, no doubt.
Downloading (pirate) The Last Remnant right now. Any tips? Things I should avoid and do?
Hm. The Last Remnant is a SaGa game. If you are unfamiliar with SaGa, this means nothing to you. If you are familiar then you know that
(bad greentexting and bad English ahead)
>there is no level up
>instead, you get stats after fights, and you spark (learn) skills during the combat
>here you also upgrade skills in combat (the more you use them, the better they become)
>this game has BR; BR is battle rank and every few fights BR goes up
>higher BR means that enemies will become stronger, but do not worry - this doesn't mean you should avoid fights, instead, you fight in the area you're in as long as you get stats
>after you stop receiving stats or learn new skills, stop fighting in that area
>it is always better to ''mark'' several enemies on the map and start fight against them then to start a fight against a single enemy group
>as long as you start a fight with a great disadvantage aka low morale, THE BETTER (it means there is a high chance of learning / sparking new skills and/or stats going up)
>Mr. Dig is useful, very useful, use him in every dig location (there is no downside of using him)
>when a party member asks you to go and look for material he or she needs, say yes, but in most cases just ignore them after this lol
>NEVER and I mean never try to make a group specifically for healing; it's better to have 1 or 2 healrs in every group / union than try and make one that is focused on healing
>use leaders only, frick off soldiers
>use characters who have Hex skills; later in the game you will learn good shit like Cachexia which is almost a must have against soem stronger bosses
>the more sidequests you do, the stronger your last battle will be (this is no joke, if you do all sidequests, the last boss will be hard)
>always talk to NPCs as a simple conversation can make new area to appear, or quest, etc.
Fricking last remnant! Outside of it's battle system, everything else was shit. The story was so moronic, holy shit
>Outside of it's battle system, everything else was shit.
Even if you hate the story, exploration, world etc you have to admit that OST was Godlike.
Nothing moronic about the story, it has pretty indepth worldbuilding
Much of the writing was basically goyslop-tier JRPG nonsense.
Ah yes, that buzzword again, you've clearly shown to be a sub 60 IQ subhuman.
Stick to Final Fantasy and what have you
Oi oi, we FF fans don't accept this goyslop posting fricktard. Maybe Persona is more up to his speed.
Dont even try to argue with this schizo, it is not worth it
legitimately thought it would be good this time, despite dev track record
4 Last Hope was fun, didn't try 5, End of Eternity
was good, Exist Archive was good, Danball Senki W was good. Pretty good record I say.
>Conveniently didn't play the worst jrpg of all time
Skies of Arcadia? Lunar: Dragon Song? Last Rebellion?
Star ocean 5
Pretty good score though
Nah, especially considering Square Enix games aren't allowed to score below 70, so this is basically a 2-3/10
So you are a homosexual
This is like a 89 for Star Ocean, if you think the game would receive a 80 with that ammount of jank, you're kinda stupid
Also, the game is literally one point away from a green score
>sony pays for exclusivty
>game turns out rubbish and boring wank
Shocker mate
mentally ill
Do you really believe sony paid for so6?
And not just that the console called switch is a toaster that cannot run it? IT is already releasing on pc, dude
if you were planning to get it on steam don't because it has denuvo
get the recently released on steam game from square without denuvo instead to show you don't want denuvo on their games: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1647550/
HAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHAHA
Squeenix game will have Denuvo again since they dropped Epic Exclusivity
Turns out Tim was the good guys after all. Its all your fault for forcing them dropped the Epic exclusivity
This and that game is the only game I'm interested this time of year
Alreadu bought that game so gonna get this one after finishing so4
NEO only released without Denuvo because there had a been a cracked version of the game out for the last 2 years.
apparently none of the se games that launched as epic exclusives have denuvo so
is kinda right
But i want denuvo. I dont want pirates ruining the gaming industry.
Maybe the gameplay is ok but I get a cringe overdose just by watching trailers of this game
I know JRPGs arent known for its good writing but jesus frick
Tri-Ace never learned how to make SO different from a cheesy 90's anime.
People who played said the writting in the actual game is a lot better and the trailers were even a bad showcase of the scenes
It's okay. Star Ocean has never been great. Good, yeah but not great.
>People legitimately think FFXVI will be bad, despite dev track record
>despite dev track record
are you shitting me? the last good FF was released more than 2 decades ago
honestly, I thought soulsgays were the most delusional people here, but FF fans are making me reconsider that
Who the frick are you greentexting?
>despite dev track record
Square who only released garbage for well over a decade except team asobo? Or do you mean the hack that the wow14 fanatics worship as god when all he did was being there in place when square did this massive shilling campaign?
>Square forced SOA to close which was Triace's life support
>dying Triace forced to make another SO game to survive
>turns out mediocre
RIP Triace, it's been fun
Why are you acting like you know the franchise, getting a 74 for them is actually good if you even know that studio
What the frick happened to Valkyrie Elysium? The game is not even one month old and literally everybody forgot about it
It is a budget action combat game, it is not like it can survive for more than a week in people's minds, anon
It is no bayo or dmc
They even attempted to add panty shots to rival Nier Automata but i guess you can't make this kind of game success without Yoko Taro meme
The truth is that Nier's writting is what made it popular
VE is a solid action game, but nothing beyond that, people will play it, have fun and go on
It isnt like nier where people will constantly talk about the narrative
I have NEVER seen anyone talk about the narrative in Nier games.
Really?
2b's butt was good marketing but the combat was always just flashy, what made nier popular in the mainstream was the story
Only here people mostly talk about porn of 2B
moron.
It is kinda funny when you enter these threads just to see metacritic psychos trying to have takes about studios, franchises and business models of companies they have no idea about
Like, any moron who thinks 74 is bad for Star Ocean already needs to be disconsidered
Last one got a 58, so this seems like a massive improvement.
Waiting for Octopath 2. That one's gonna be good.
74 just means tri ace didn't bribe anyone
They are not the Developer.
When will /v start gettin the difference between developer and publisher.....
>When will /v start gettin the difference between developer and publisher.....
/v/'s strong point isnt mental abilities
Has anyone in this thread played the game? Or is this literally just another metacritic score thread.
I played the first few hours but I'm stuck at work. I haven't even got to the part after the demo but the performance is much better and I'm enjoying it a lot.
Sirs why some of you sirs able to afford every video games sirs
How much did you make sirs.
Unless neetbux count then nothing
>neetbux
No such thing. Unless you early adopter of bitcoin
I buy only a handful of games because most are AAA trash. you bet I'm dropping MSRP for AA jank
I buy every japanese game that comes out even if I don't play them.
What square obseesian with the doll faces?
why not do something similar to ff7? or just better art?
This game was pretty fun. Could have used a balance adjustment. The haste spell was beyond broken.
It should have been a $40 release so sequel chances are slim.
My brother in christ, you need to search about who is actually making the game
Because talent. A company doesn't make things, the people working for them are.
In this case, the game has character design by the Street Fighter guy.
It is very good as far as the drawings go
The problem is whoever is doing those ingame character models. I prefer these dolls over realistic photoscanned crap, but yes it could have been better, closer to the original character design.
How is it SEs fault when its tri ace making this dogshit?
You mean Tri-Ace?
Anything SE...
Still not sure if i should buy it or not. 60-70€ seems a bit much to spend considering that 4 was dogpiss and 5 while being better still was mediocre at best.
Seems like a lot of cash to play coinflip
$10 is the best i can offer for this shit
$70 is just bullshit especially for AA game
>It's now been 19 years since the last Star Ocean game that was good
>74/100
>7.4/10
>3.7/5
>bad
I fricking abhor modern media journalism.
They should've let the Star Ocean 4 director make the ecchi/porn game he said he always wanted to. Would've unironically saved the franchise.
I'll buy all of these new Square games when they are $20 on Ebay.
Star ocean was never good. You were just young, dumb and full of cum when you thought they were.
I'm still full of cum...
Not for long
After checking reviews I think the game looks great and I will eventually play it.
Tri Ace are good. Another episode of jornus assassinating a game with sexy art.
>assassinating a game with sexy art
The game itself is already doing that without outside interference, Akira Nishitani's art is being raped with the horrible in-game models.
It sucks the face models are horrible but they approved sexy art.
Sexy art is approved to be modeled sad no e-girl and don't know how heavy fanservice will be since Cero B as you said which is reason I didn't bother to buy it. C would've been acceptable but that swimsuit girl isn't playable also.
Petite girls with short black hair are a gift from god
eh
>fricking her from behind
>gotta keep the ass in my field of view or i get the feeling i'm fricking a boy and lose hardness
Good luck trying to tell her she has to moan louder because reasons
>not getting harder
gay
I loved 2 beyond measure, but 3 left such a bad taste in my mouth. Well, got it on Steam.Time to see the state of modern JRPGs
He did nothing wrong
he took the MODS = GODS meme too seriously
>74
Holy shit this'll be the exact comfy B-grade JRPG schlock i wanted. I'm excited.
Based true jrpg enjoyer.
>despite dev track record
(you)
This and don't forget Resonance of Fate. I loved Danball Senki too.
SO5 was rushed out and made on a shoestring budget from a triace that was just about ready to drop console game development.
I'm glad that they're bad and that this game is far from being awful.
>Resonance of Fate
Anon mentioned End of Eternity. That is a japanese name for Resonance of Fate.
I played that game. (I forgot to add in my previous post, NTA. I am not the anon you originally replied to)
The game is...weird. It would be decent if I didn't have to lose/git party member every time I go from town to town for absolutely no reason.
>no cringy e-girl and shota characters
>main character doesn't look like a twink
>still has superior titty monsters
I will now buy your Star Ocean game.
I'm specifically not buying this because it has no e-girls.
The medieval planet and Serah also killed my interest in 4 faster than any game has ever done
https://twitter.com/Oni_Dino/status/1585488703316668417
I hope you're not playing any Japanese game in english at all. You'd be very surprised.
>My responsibilities grew
Working with Square Enix NA is hell and a lot of people who work there are genuinely terrible humans. He was getting fricked over.
>he/himbo/twink/俺
Uhh, based?
him being a gay bodes well because twinks tend to HATE troons and I can trust a gay to not butcher a script.
Square is a literal kusoge company now
I got three of their games coming up, Star Ocean, Harvestella, and TO remake.
They can get my money easy; make RPGs and not action games starring Black folk.
based as frick
Halloween to Thanksgiving gaming is covered
>troonystella
kek
don't care
literately do not give a shit about your culture war shit
>I don't care about cancer infesting everything just give me my goyslop
This is you. This is your life as a dumb consoomer. When it becomes legal to hunt you down like a rabid dog for thoughtcrimes and you're crushed under the heels of Black folk and trannies, you'll still consider that fine so long as you could have just another spoonful of goyslop.
newbie alert
Since when has goyslop been considered a newbie word? It's been widely used here for years now.
newbie
>it uses the newbie forced meme Discord word
of course it does LOL
>muh thoughtcrimes!!
>literal gets angry just because someone don't give a shit about his moronic culture war
>goyslop
Fricking aussie Black person.
Not caring about a war you're actively involved with whether you like it or not is basically like supporting the other side.
then good, I hope the gays and trannies put all you brown morons from /misc/ into death camps. Seems like they're doing a good job of ruining you morons anyways.
>le /misc/ bogeyman
>/pol/pol/pol/pol/pol/pol/pol/
Time to suck your girlfriends dick.
>Time to suck your girlfriends dick.
but enough about your shitty fetishes
>projecting this hard
>irony: the post
>says the one who has /misc/ living rent free
This kind of stuff will not impact me to a relevant degree until it's far, far more extreme which, while entirely possible, is likely to be 50+ years away when I'm in the grave and i don't care what happens to anything after i'm dead
if you live in NA or Asia, it literally doesn't matter.
if you live in EU though, you should care.
you shouldn't spend energy on things that are not local to you. it's a waste of time.
I didn't mean the israelite proxy war with Ukraine, I meant the actual war, the one that's being fought for the dominant culture of the west.
>Harvestella
Isn't that the one without romance/marriage?
They realize it means dead on arrival for a farm sim game, right?
great times ahead
Harvestella stars troons.
game live now on steam
Every footage im seeing of this game have the enemies dying in literally 2 hit.
Is this game baby mode for casuals morons or what?
play on hardest difficulty with one hand and cover one of your eyes
there you go, difficulty
I'm playing on the hardest difficulty and it's hard enough that my AI party members die.
is it solid, i.e. not tedious HP bloatbags?
Nah, they still die pretty fast if you know what you're doing. I feel like the hardest available difficulty is how you're supposed to play it.
There's still a few enemies you have to be careful of though, like the a mini boss in the world map.
Either way, it's a jrpg. You can pretty much control your own difficulty by controlling your levels.
IT'S OUT
it just came out on steam
how is it bros?
Did any one buy this game? Lol
I did but I am not off of work for 7 more hours.
playing the game
why would anyone post on this trash board on any game release
>no pc demo
>expensive
>4 was mediocre and hear 5 was garbage
Would have considered it.
gonna play it tonight
The guy that shared it with me did.
Anyone know how long does it take for games with dunevo to get crack?
Wondering if I should buy it now or wait for crack if it's a few days
>Anyone know how long does it take for games with dunevo to get crack?
PFFFFFFFT......
>compile shader taking years to complete
What the frick is this shit
Love the game so far but does it actually have no quest log? Or am I just moronic?
you're moronic
try opening your map and then your eyes
Game just released
holy shit at the shader compiling on PC
This game is out? I remember seeing hype discussion for a new Star Ocean game a while ago but then never heard anything after. Did they just not market it at all?
I want to put my peepee in between Nina's boobas
So far what I see is that the gameplay is fun, the difficulty is easy, so changing it to hard should at least be normal (like in DQ11), there are plenty things to do/collect/etc and that the story is serviceable enough.
I mean it's looking pretty good for a star ocean game. I'll definitely pick it up later.
Im still compiling shader, how long does it take for you guys
On PS5 it just werked
it's a one time thing and it takes forever. Some games prefer to load all the shaders the game needs to shorten loads inside the game. You'll see emulators do this a lot too.
slow as frick even on nvme
I was just playing this
I bought the game after I saw her
Now post her ingame model
Surprisingly it's one of the better ones.
whoa momma
44GB on by shitass internet connection. Thanks modern games ;.;
What do we think of the full OP? I like it but I already like HYDE anyway so I’m probably biased
Yeah sure sounds like HYDE. Fine I guess but damn they need to change it up a bit.
Soon..
Aren't devs supposed to pack the compiled shaders with the game?
is the universe a simulation in this game too?
I'd simulate Laeticia's fat ass if you know what I mean.
The only way to save Star Ocean is an H-game with models ripped from their dead mobile game.
>Raymond acts like a chad but looks like a big roided baby
Its just wrong
Laeticia or Raymond?
it's up, ruskies 1:debilnuvo 0
moron lmao
not as moronic as you buying AA games for $60.
>b-but i want to own my games
yeah sure you own license that can be taken at any time and you will never replay those long ass jrpgs
post screen of you playing the game, Ivan
LOL
i'm busy playing Nioh 2 atm, i will start playing Star Ocean in few days, now i'm busy shitposting you Gankerirgins *~~
thought so you LARPing homosexual. Enjoy your cope over having to wait for "Empress" LOL
there is no wait since i will buy shared acc at any time and play it offline, deadnuvo is most worthless shit possible invented it will only make pirates richer while devs will get $0
what site is this? You can get Star ocean for ~10. Am I reading that right?
>You can get Star ocean for ~10. Am I reading that right?
You get shared steam account with copy of game that you download and play offline for how long you want
https://plati.market/search/STAR%20OCEAN%20THE%20DIVINE%20FORCE
It's account sharing shit so you're not buying the game.
you pay some Russian two dollars and then seethe when Valve bans the account a day later
>and then seethe when Valve bans the account a day later
this literally never happened, same as fearmongering about changing regions that always ban your acc (while in reality i'm on russian region for over 5 years)
Please tell me it's not that moronic ALL PARTY MEMBERS IN BATTLE AT ONCE that was in the last blunder.
Is it back to 3-4 again per battle?
>Please tell me it's not that moronic ALL PARTY MEMBERS IN BATTLE AT ONCE that was in the last blunder.
I never played it, but what's wrong with every party member at once?
Not him but in terms of the last game, the system was based on an RPS system of predicting and reacting to enemy attacks yet the whole screen was constant explosions and other effects so you basically just spammed specials the whole time.
Yeah, that does sound like a nightmare, but an issue with too many specials going on instead of something inherent to having your whole party on the field at once
Your whole party means 7+ characters during battle which is not only an innate clusterfrick, but also makes balancing impossible.
4
The protagonist looks unbelievably moronic ingame, not touching this shit.
You don't like relatable protags?
Simp
Thoughts on the new Welchy look
too old
Literally a 4D prostitute so she must be purged.
Low tier Welch.
She fricks the finger staff, doesn't she?
better than 4's techy e-girl style
still, I prefer 3's honkers and 5's personality which is basically Neptunia
70 is basically a failing grade for today’s overhyped gaming media that shills everything
>2.4k in game
that's pretty decent, I thought it would be 500 or some shit
2.4k for a singleplayer game is abysmal. Singleplayer games need a consistent amount of players to be considered good.
Below 20k for a JRPG (not late port) = flop.
My brother, what the frick are these expectations for a budget game
And another goyslop from shit enix
as predicted, thread turned to total garbage on release
pirates are seething they can't play it, people who can play it are playing. Same song and dance. As for me, 14k shader out of 38k lol
I'm waiting on the dunkey review before forming my opinion
reminder this moron simps hard for the new Valkyrie game. He's a complete moron and it sucks a green Meta gets dragged into yellow just because of one fat moron like this.
That moron gave gotham knight an 8
lmao, he should be banned from reviewing games and blacklisted from the internet for having such a shit taste
This is something people should look for when seeing reviews. See what else they've reviewed. I think it's telling what kind of taste a person has based on their past scores.
>Fans of SO3 seem to like it
>Fans of SO2 seem to despise it
>Fans of SO3 seem to like it
Damn, so the game is the best SO kino we've had since PS2 then.
>keep talking about culture wars when the real battle is between you and any woman's desire for you
Never change, proto school shooters.
>try out demo
>"oh this is pretty fun and chill"
>fps is not 60 locked
dropped
the last hope was on ps3 and that had better performance than this fricking game
the demo requires a VRR tv. the full game doesn't.
is the full game actually stable though?
i'd get this game on a sale if that was the case. i really enjoyed the last hope gameplay wise. story and voice acting was shit tho.
On PS5 at least it's fine but has a little stutter rarely.
It's stable on PC. probably
I'll just wait for them to stop paying for the denuvo license
>buying goyslop tranime shit
lmao
Anime site
I still remember being blown away by SO3 letting you see the rotating 3D models of items.
SOUL.
N64 kid detected. RE did that a gen before.
I'm speaking for a hugeass RPG with tons of items.
RE can't compare in this regard, game is over before you even really started 10% of SO3
Fair point, actually. SO and Tales were the first two series that had item pics and descriptions that I played. Now that's more normal but it felt so advanced then.
S02 was the first game I ever played that had stuff looking cooking and crafting and it had (now primitive) 3d models of what you made
I loved the voice clips when you failed or succeeded in crafting.
the last good star ocean was the last hope
I guess you could say...it was the series' last hope.
Honestly 7/10 is damn near exactly what I expected.
These days Square Enix games feel like AI generated shit
The most soulless stuff I've ever seen
Why do you act like you know Square, much less Star Ocean?
Anyone playing on ps4/ps5? Does the game let you change text to japanese like the demo?
>still the best by far
>Wanted a new Valkyrie Profile and Star Ocean for the longest fricking
>This shit happens
It's not fair, IT'S NOT FRICKING FAIR
No long frickings for you.
VP was always shovelware, at least with SO they tried up to 4
Valkyrie Profile was good for most of its existence before being sent to mobile purgatory. I think I was just in cope mode, always desperately hoping "just give them one more chance, you'll see" thinking the last couple SO games were flukes.
>What the frick do you want?
A good game anon
>A good game anon
Literally where have you been? There hasn't been a good game in over a decade, you cannot seriously have expected anything decent.
I wanted to dream anon. I wanted to dream
The highest rated star ocean, that is considered a masterpiece, received a 80 as metacritic
What the frick do you want?
>wanted feast on goyslop
>receives exactly what it asked for
You get exactly the goyslop you wanted.
Aaarff, aarff...
I want these games, but the reviewer overlords told me I should spend my money on games made by their friends instead...
Artf, aarrf, they command, I obey...
I'm still gonna buy the new SO, frick you, I might was well given how long I waited
Why? Because some fricking morons who don't even like JPRGs would've pretended to like it?
>I'm still gonna buy the new SO, frick you
Enjoy your goyslop
The worst thing that can happen to Star Ocean is professional reviewers giving it 9s and 10s. Think about it.
This is unironically true
It would mean either they trashed away their whole identity or they received abnormal amounts of money
The first one is more probable
True, just look at tales
I'll what the frick do people have against Arise?
It isn't the best Tales game sure, but its nowhere near the worst either.
It's definitely the best according to sales and reviews though
You didn't answer the question
I did though
No you didn't.
I'm sick of the Tales series. No, that doesn't mean
>durr they need to stop making new ones
I think people shit on it here because it's a huge success.
>thought Graces was fun but disliked the MC and the plot
>started to really have issues with from Xillia onwards
>hated the copy/paste shit in Xillia 2, loved the combat though
>dropped zestiria, first time i dropped a Tales games
>never even bothered with Beseria because was still pissed off at the series
>give series one last chance with Arise
>enjoyed it enough but felt it fell of towards the end
I just wish they'd bring back all the fun side shit the series used to have and a world map to explore.
>It's honestly even worse than Zesteria.
Bait.
>I think people shit on it here because it's a huge success.
No, people shit on it because it has the worst gameplay in the entire series.
>cancerous Dark Souls dodge roll that blatantly doesn't mesh with anything else in the combat system
>hyper armour out the ass so you can't even do anything fun without the enemy just hitting you out of it
You mentioned dropping Zersteria but Arise was the only game in the series I've ever dropped.
Because there is a limit to how much a budget rpg can get as score
Just SO's character models already cuts it from receiving a 80
>Because there is a limit to how much a budget rpg can get as score
>Just SO's character models already cuts it from receiving a 80
This, just the usual jank these types of rpgs have, like bad optimization, already makes it drop to 70. Journos cant take it
Bayonetta is prime target for doomposting because of recent drama and Nintendo exclusivity. Star Oxean getting 74 is a breath of fresh air after 2 (arguably 3 fornsome people) garbage games
Star Ocean hasn't had a good game in 20 years. I'll take whatever scraps that resembles a good game that I can get. Also 4 apologists, frick off.
Giving a frick about metacritic scores and reviews is the first sign that you won't make it.
You should really stop caring about
1. Metacritic
2. shitposters on this site who don't even play games but have the urge to post in every thread because reasons
>even this shitty goyslop has denuvo now
piracy is truly dead
Do they still have the private events and character pairing ending?
Yes, Both protagonists have paired endings with the rest of the party and each other.
I'm trying to play on steam, but It's taking forever to.compile the shader. Thankfully I have most of the weekend to play it.
This took like an hour to complete. It used up all my cpu while it was going and counted as playtime. I hope it doesn't have to do this shader shit everytime I start the game or everytime there's an update.
We are going to pretend this is a bad score for a game that Jornous hate regardless of how well it plays in 2022?
It's over
This is the final nail in the coffin
This is a decent enough score. Everyone knows that putting anime tiddies in your game removes the usual 5-10 scoring metric and brings it to a 1-8 instead.
only got to play for 30 before I had to go back to Waging@Home.
>faces are weird, everyone looks like dolls
>MC sounds like a chadlord and talks like one, but has a Downs face
>combat is fun and looks like it will get REALLY good when you have enough moves to really pimp out the custom combos (you get three strings of three each, with a 4th move going on the button being held)
>Ghetto sphere grid
>you gotta remove blur; it makes the game look like shit. I didn't figure that out until I was done playing for now
all in all boys, my body is ready for JARPIG weekend.
this was generally my impression from playing the demo for 20-30mins. i'm looking forward to it.
>>you gotta remove blur; it makes the game look like shit.
Tell me how.
>bloom = blur
Fricking nips
It's time for Square to ABANDON Sony.
Squareslop
Same thing as regular goyslop really, just with a japanese flavoring
[pronoun]slop
It is easy to see when the thread is plagued by just one moron, he keeps using the same fricking word. It is funny, what makes this guy act like this
New jrpgs didnt fix his parents' marriage
There was a SO thread yesterday that had 1 goofball to.
Yesterday threads were actually good, but this one has one psycho that is trying to derail it at all costs
Unfortunately for whatever reason Star Ocean is targeted by the discordtroony falseflaggers
NPCs don't think, they just act out their programming
One of the first skills I learned was
>princess gets minus on DEF but party members git more EXP
Helps a lot, especially since I'm playing on Universe. And since my buddy who shared the account got Deluxe there are also some seriously OP items with it, at least for this stage of the game, but I refuse to use them.
He is a poorgay from Brasil.
He enters the thread using the same fricking word and acting like he is a new person lmaaaaaao
.
>Read throught he """negative reviews"""
>One is someone rambling about how its not star ocean 2
>Another moron talking about """replay value""" in a jrpg
>And the other one is IGN talking about dated mechanics and interface issues
Allmost none of them are actually credible and made by people that actually play jrpgs, like wow
the guy who gave it a 5/10 liked Gotham Knights
tells you all you need to know
i read the ign review. it praised the combat and story
Nintendo should buy Enix instead Square
And Nintendo should've bunked with Sony instead of Phillips, why the frick are you biring this up now?
These "what if" comparisons are so funny to me
I do sometimes wonder though what things would look like if that did happen
To me doesnt makes much sense because things could always be worse and we could be on the best timeline just by having those companies still existing
Runs at 60fps 4K on a 3060 just fine
74 is a lot higher than I expected
>Star Ocean: The Succubi Force
How does it run on pc? are GTX 1060 6gb enough for 60fps like arise/ff7r or do i need new gpu?
won't be able to play on PC til i get home. gonna see how well it works with the deck
I wanted more planets
I had no idea there was even a new star ocean in development. Why the frick does SE hate advertising?
Stranger of Paradise got similar and its the best game I've played this year. The 70s is niche game territory for chads instead of mass appeal casual games.
game runs fine at 4k60fps on 3090 without VRR
like 35% gpu usage
I assume the vrr issue was fixed
How long till crack?
If more than 1 week, I buy. Anyone know?
I assume never and it'll only have no Denuvo when SE decide to remove it.
Express is a greedy israelite and tends to crack garabge.
No PC demo + that price puts me off buying it myself.
So this really isnt focused on space-faring like SO4 was?
I just want comfy planet exploration. I’m not expecting Mass Effect, just not generic high fantasy
only about an hour in but I wonder if I made a mistake picking laeticia
hope they explain raymond and whatever happened before he landed
Kek
The first thing I did was remap the keybinds.
I bought it on ps5. Its 2022, people should have learned their lesson by now regarding Japanese games and PC ports
The fact that the options on pc are prioritize framerate or prioritize graphics like it's a console game is telling. You can customize it more after you make that choice though.
what did the moron mean by you can't remove blur
And that's why they didn't put the demo on PC
I bought it on PS5 anyway.
Unironically works on my machine, smoothly too.
Steam also tends to have morons mad their 10+ year old toaster has issues.
I can't take anybody saying to play on console seriously either.
>muh controls
why bother using literally any pad besides xbox or at the very least dualshock/sense if you got a PS4/5?
there are a bajillion ching chong controllers out there, of course you're gonna have problems mapping it to 300 different games.
>FRAME DROPS
I bet this dude got a 1070ti at best
Steam should prevent any user whose PC does not meet the minimum requirements to be barred from posting a Review, many times Jap devs can't do satisfactory PC ports but there is a lot of rats with 13+ year old toasters complaining their shit can't run a game properly.
I'm getting it to run at 60fps on low settings with my laptop. GTX 1650 ti and 8gb ram.
Poor PC users.
Ethics department approved goyslop coming up
did anyone seriously expect this to be good? it literally looks like a mobile game. hell, it looks worse than the gacha they had a few years ago
If you value graphics that much there is always TLOU remake for ps5 if you want
I did, and it is good. Seethe, b***h.
It's fun, homosexual.
>game will never, ever be cracked
poorgay bros...how do we cope?
Huh it's doing better than I thought it would. I really have no faith in this franchise
Is the dual wielding armored girl the female lead? That is kinda crazy to see these days. They are usually always mages/healers.
Star Ocean 3 was one of the best jrps of all time.
They don't give any context when you choose your character at the beginning. I know what their backstory is because I've been following the game's development but any new person just starting the game has no basis on whether they should choose the boy or girl when starting.
I didn't expect this on booting the game.
Which one?
pick either, you'll probably want to play it again anyway
just expect the game from Claude's perspective being an adventure trip trying to look cool, while Rena's is a goody-two shoes curious about the world solving problems and shit
also, the other will join your party soon enough and will stay permanent despite leaving temporarily for a few events here and there
also, there are enough different things going on to justify playing it all over again with the other protagonist
I liked SO 4
I liked it right up until you get stranded on the same planet you spend every other Star Ocean game on and realized I got baited again.
But you can totally backtrack to other planets trust the plan!
I thought it was just okay but it can get annoying. Like post game crafting for resources annoying trying to gather magical clay(?) and other post game shit.
>played it again recently
>got super pissed I missed ONE missable chest somehow
>spent hours post game making gear, notably the super tri-emblum
Post-game made for a decent mindlessly grind while watching youtube videos game.
Was this techno city planet a lie?
I'm about an hour in.
