The story is so-so for an MMO and quite below average for normal games. The presentation of the story is even worse, with mostly unvoiced cutscenes with stiff generic movement and poor pacing.

The localization is fine, though. Most of the """""comparisons""""" shitting on it were made by an ESL moron who doesn't speak English or Japanese well. There's been a JP-speaking autist doing proper line-by-line with context comparisons in TWEWY threads for the last few months, and most of the localization frickups are pretty understandable grammatical mistakes. (And the one characterization frickup with Fret's combat lines, which is a shame, to be fair)

The fact that none of it does, and all we get is a few hideous outfits and two dungeons should tell you everything you need to know about those shitty scammers at Square and that liar scum Yoshi.
They don't give a frick about FFXIV, it's just a cashcow that's keeping their heads above water while they desperately search for others means of revenue.
FFXIV hasn't visually changed since 1.0, where it was gutted so that it could run on the fricking PS3. ARR zones were completely ruined by flying, and all of the later zones are hideous and empty in comparison.
This game gets zero love from it's creators, it's on the same level as PSO2:NGS, and that's coming from someone who's played both of these games for thousands of hours.
If they gave a frick, we'd get meaningful improvements to the physics, the graphics, the gameplay. Instead every job gets NERFED each expansion and everything plays identically. There is no reason to play specific jobs over others in the same role, they all function the same, none of them bring unique things to the table or allow players to express themselves.
It's painfully apparent they don't give a shit, and that MMOs as a genre are failing so badly that FFXIV is crowned champion simply by default, simply by being an extremely mediocre game in an ocean of pure shit ones.

A larger part of the community was happy with ShB in general tho so when SE fricked over a job back then people were under the impression that they were trimming the fat to build on it later, the community would shut off the complainers. Tanks get streamlined and aggro management is scrapped? No problem they'll probably put more complexity in content to make up for it. Healers get fricked to 1 button? Surely they'll add more later, dont mind the fact that they literally skipped over the healer sliders in the live letter. This or that job got randomly simplified or fricked over? BRD gets destroyed to make room for DNC, MNK and MCH gets fricked in the ass again for no reason? SURELY they're doing that because they have a grand vision for the future.
Endwalker just confirmed for everyone that they don't give a frick and will never improve on jobs after randomly gutting them. The only vision the devs have shown to have for jobs is one of lazy, homogenized mediocrity to make their own design work easier. SAM is just the last victim of that, DRG is the next, and peoples goodwill is exhausted, so there's more pushback against it.
