As a part of the Final Fantasy Franchise it had further goals of making enough profit to make up for the last couple bombs Square had and was expected to revitalize the FF Brand.
for that fist past it was a complete failure as the game could only really self sustain and as for the second the best they could say was basically that twitch zoomers now know what a Final Fantasy is.
If the Rest of Square was doing fine they it would be no big deal, but instead It and Rebirth needed to be able to pay for Sins Past which they could not do.
even if part 3 was day 1 on other platforms it wouldn't be that big because square just fails and fails again to be consistent and actually grow audiences on other platforms. a sudden drop of the last part in their trilogy day 1 is not going to wish that audience into existing. it takes time and more important, consistency, to build an audience on other platforms.
same with ff16 on pc. it has the added bonus maybe of ff14 being on pc, but i doubt it will be huge. might do less numbers than tales of arise on steam

There are 50 million PS5 owners, developers just need to make good games.

Each serves a different purpose, and they all look different. Haptics, the moment you step unto Eidos 7, feel vastly superior to Rebirth. Rain, steps, combat all feel nice. Now only four games do haptics correctly - Returnal, Spider-man 2, Ghost of Tsushima and Stellar Blade. It is not just about franchise legacy, but also about the technicalities of the game.
