Not like this, Stadians............................
S
That makes you walk backwards you fricking consoletard.
I use ESDF
>Stadia
That was still a thing? I thought for sure Google would have pulled the plug sooner
>Cloud "gaming"
Is anyone actually surprised Poogle is sending another service to the graveyard?
I wonder if anybody still used it
>not available yet on your country
>the service is shutting down
what an experience i had
Gamers are fricking moronic for not buying into this. This is literally the future
Clearly not since it's shutting down, lmao.
Yeah, because gamers are fricking moronic and don't know a good thing when they got it. Literal braindead children
I don't know why you're so mad, you're getting a refund for your poor decisions.
I DON'T WANT A REFUND, I WANT GAMERS TO STOP BEING FRICKING moronS AND ACTUALLY SUPPORT INNOVATION LIKE THIS THAT IS PUSHING THE BOUNDARY FORWARD. I HATE THE GAMER CUSTOMER BASE SO MUCH, YOU DROP HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS ON LOOT BOXES, BUT GOD FORBID YOU ACTUALLY SUPPORT PROGRESS
>Progress
This shit isn't progress. It's a monument to the fact that streaming videogames isn't possible, not unless we manage to kick the ass of light speed limitations, which is fricking laughable.
Otherwise? The only reason to push this is to eliminate ownership, which I bet a lot of Stadians are feeling about now when their libraries FRICKING VANISH IN JANUARY LIKE SMOKE
It is possible, anon. It won't work for every game, but many are perfectly playable on Stadia/Nvidia's thing.
The problem with streaming is modding and preservation.
How is this innovative when the technology for Stadia already existed?
It was apparently supposed to just be a placeholder and the wording on it literally just a joke they bullshitted but Google was like "this is perfect"
>rent streaming pc
>pc was alright at release
>few years pass
>renting a shit pc now at same price
>some games run like shit
>dont own your games
VS Gamepass:
>get console quality
>gets updated when new hardware comes
>no need to buy games, at $5 extra a month 400+ games "free"
Google got rekt by ms.
Gamepads is "free" in the sense that it's basically a really cheap rental, right?
Gimme free Internet (including ethernet to all my rooms in my house at no cost for low latency) then I'll buy your shit idea.
There is literally nothing Stadia innovated on that Onlive didn't do over a decade ago.
>start up a game on my Google stadia, service discontinued
>fire up my Google+ to write an angry post about it, can't since it's been sent to the Google graveyard
>Can't find the Google chat app on my phone since it's been renamed 20 times now. All my buddies left because Google will cancel the app in two months
>Frick this shit, I just listen some music on my Google music account
>Find out plug has been pulled
>Oh well, maybe I'll just watch some TV on my Google fibre subscription. No TV spaghetti now I regretti
The daily life of a Google product user.
Sorry, but I can't support a program that won't let me mod my games
>WAAAAAH MUH PROGRESS! MUH FUTURE!
in what way is this shit progress or the future?
or do your flashcards not have an answer, shill?
The tech wasn't there yet
good morning sir
good morning sis
good morning xerxes
Shit the frick up racist b***h
GOD MORNING BASTARD GAY SIR
ma'am are you a prostitute?
The future of input lag and "can't do a damn thing about the game's files because they're in someone else's servers", yes.
I don't even think that it's a horrible idea, there probably bably is some market for it somewhere sometime. But to act like it's going to replace standard gaming is frickin moronic.
>character jumps 4 seconds after you hit the jump button
how could this possibly fail
<---"How to fail upwards"
How specifically is it the future?
Because the big tech companies that stand to make more profit off of it told me so.
>This is literally the future
correct, and that future is still a few decades away which is why it's pointless to do it now, Netflix wouldn't have been viable in the times of dial-up and streaming games isn't viable right now
Aside from the fact that movies are easier and cheaper to stream than AAA games, Netflix was viable because it had no meaningful competition at the time. Basically impossible for any company to do that with game streaming if they aren't willing to give it away for free or have some secret sauce tech that renders every other way to play games obsolete.
>Netflix wouldn't have been viable in the times of dial-up
Netflix isn't viable now either, it's $12 billion in debt
because they only do one thing and every media company on the planet is trying to start a streaming service and contribute to everyone going back to piracy
No, it's because they recently shot both of their feet with their latest decision.
what, releasing Dahmer and Blonde?
No, they're getting rid of password sharing unless you upgrade to their 'premium' plan. The basic plan which is the same price as the current one will have ads too.
They also now only offer 480p at base price which is a fricking war crime
how are they going to prevent it?
I'm guessing either checking if you're logged in on multiple devices at a time, or only allowing you to change IPs with your login a certain amount of times before locking you out.
guess it's time to start pirating Netflix shit lmao
Netflix was so convenient a decade ago. I'm glad I never got a subscription.
Hey there Furukawa! How're your Shitch ports going?
I am absolutely overjoyed by this. I haven't felt so good in a very, very long time, in fact later I might just have to cry. This is a powerful win for art, for consumers, and for videogames.
Your seethe only makes it even better. I'm glad you're being physically removed from my hobby.
Imagine being overjoyed by something that doesn't affect you at all
We don't need to, you're posting on the schadenfreude board.
>something that doesn't affect you at all
Except it does, you fricking moron. If streaming games became successful literally every company would follow suit.
Nobody cared about Stadia yesterday, it has always been a failure and nobody but those redditards thought it would become successful.
It getting shut down doesn't affect anybody but the 5 people who were still using it. It will not kill cloud gaming, nor will it kill Google. This changes absolutely nothing.
see above.
Any failure for any streaming service is a win. I'll take the small victories.
Fair. But "overjoyed"? Come on anon.
It's good news, why can't I just be happy about it?
I'm going to visit r/stadia and indulge in the salt.
One of the biggest companies releasing a cloud gaming service that ended up as a flop does indeed hurt cloud gaming.
It's great news for the future of the industry. Of course I am happy about it. It may have delayed the video compression, input latency, eternal rental apocalypse a couple years. Now we can only hope that GeForce Now and similar will be equally failures. There needs to be an established track record of failure that makes game streaming untenable to invest in, but I don't think we'll ever be completely safe.
>NOOOOOO stop making fun of the poor multi billion $ corporation
No, they weren't. Stadia sucked fricking cow ass.
Google+ was also the future, they even hired the creator of reddit Christopher Hitler to the team.
Don't forget google glass.
and a dozen other projects

Your future was badly conceived anon.
Let it die.
So is the world being 50% african
good goy
laugh at stadiagays therad
it's not even the gamers fault blame the greedy israelite corporations that hoard video games licenses, stadia could have gone for a rental route and it would have done well, but the constant NO TAKE OUR GAME OFF YOUR PLATFORM! ended up killing it
Why would gaming companies want to make less money on stadia when they can make more on proven consoles and PC?
Why would gamers want to pay money for a worse experience than they can get on consoles and PC?
Who is cloud gaming for exactly other than delusional tech fans?
You don't understand. If they keep pushing it, eventually it will catch on. Eventually more people will become accustomed to it, and more companies will get on board with it. Then, even though it's shit, it'll be accepted because it's the only thing anyone's doing. Same shit that happened with DLC/microtransactions shit. Big name games today are unfinished on release and use the players as betatesters, while also expecting you to pay for the privilege of being advertised to repeatedly once you're in the game. And people eat this up because they're used to it - at this point, there's probably people who were raised in an environment where that's all they knew. They don't even know that 20-30 years ago, hell even 10 years ago, you could buy a game that would've already gone through bug-testing (though it wouldn't be perfect) before release, and that didn't just serve as a platform to convince you to spend even more money. Hell I've heard people complain about games being 'abandoned' because there isn't DLC being made for them.
Game streaming will be the same way, 10-20 years from now. It'll be praised and outright expected by the gamers of the future who don't even remember a time when they actually had possession of the game they were playing, even if they didn't own it.
DLC and microtransactions were profitable from the jump. The benefit for game companies is extremely obvious in a way that it just isn't with cloud gaming.
it will be though. I'm actually surprised this failed; I expected there to be enough morons in major cities with good internet to prop it up until it became possible to make it the norm.
It won't be.
Even on the best day with good internet the backend simply wasn't there and sometimes the computers streaming it would fricking crash
>Who is cloud gaming for exactly other than delusional tech fans?
That's the golden question right there. People who want image quality will absolutely avoid compressed stream images like the plague, and will get PCs. People who are POOR don't have killer internet connections, they will get consoles, and likely get new games at the physical discount bin. People who don't give a damn have no reason to buy this acessory, because anyone who isn't already into gaming, will never be into gaming. We live in an age where kids are playing on their cellphones before they learn how to talk
Only the absolute cumgloggling morons that will get eveyrthing new because it's new, would want something like this
CLOUD GAMING IS NOT INOVATION, YOU ARE SIMPLY RENTING A PC. NOT EVEN A GOOD ONE, BECAUSE THE IMAGE IS COMPRESSED STREAMING VIDEO, AND THERE IS MORE DELAY THAN A PLAYSTATION 5
The future sure ain't what it used to be
>refunding all purchases
I never expected them to actually do this. Ironically, announcing from the start that they would do it would have saved stadia lmao
Yea this is actually cool but it bet it's botched to hell and back and probably like that 2077 return bullshit
They're only refunding the purchases because of the lack of Stadia's popularity. Google probably makes more in an hour than the total amount of money they'll have to refund.
Yeah, but they definitely never intended to if it had actually made any money.
things i learned during this debacle:
1 stadia is the plural of stadium
2 google has a billion dollar mobile game industry they didnt implement into stadia for some unknown moronic reason
3 only richgays w multiple houses but no home care about game streaming and holy SHIT do they have too much influence, goddamned private managerial class
How people continue to convince the money changers that tachyon gaming is a thing is a mystery.
All things considered, it's not a terrible idea, we're just decades too early.

Aaaaaand nothing of value was lost
you are a worthless moron
You don't have to let us know what your mother said to you this morning.
At least i dont work for israelitegle
Hope you dont get laid off
Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha
I work for the government on the side. Government doesn't fire. If the private sector fails you the public sector will save you
> google employee is a glowie on the side
You cant make this shit up
their idea for making the company 20% more efficient will just be firing the 20% of their workforce that is performing the worst at the end of the year.
You won't have any worth when you'll own nothing
>killed by google
who would have thought
Google can't keep anything alive apart from their search engine and YouTube, and they constantly figure out ways to make both worse.
Google has to be the worst of the major tech companies.
Plus Chrome lives purely off of name, in terms of browser features and performance it's dead last, even Microsoft's chromium based edge shits on actual chrome
Android also gets completely mogged by iOS
Chrome is the worst cancer to ever happen to Browsers and the reason why we can't have good browsers and why the web is garbage now.
Fricking israelite scumbags were never following web standards and were popular with normalhomosexuals so it killed the web because fricking Black folk were coding pages for israelitegle Chrome.
I miss Presto Opera so goddamn much.
Frick israelitegle Chrome.
iirc youtube is operated at a loss.
It was for a long time but I don't think it is now
Not anymore and they always profited tangentially via user data
YouTube is so hilariously bad past year or so, I get this bug that video goes into top left corner at quarter scale sometimes or opposite and it is zoomed into corner and most video is offscreen, controls quit working, auto play keeps turning back on, hone page has 20 thousand rows of the same videos over and over
Recommend me videos I watched yesterday it’s like some moron took over
The recommended for me is fricked as well, for example I would be listening to a song from a soundtrack outside of a playlist
Before, probably years ago now, I would be recommended other songs from the soundtrack but now it’s just 3+hour music compilations either lofi shit which I’ve never clicked on or videos with titles like “4 hour music for when it’s raining and you’re depressed but want to play videogames”. To even attempt to find other songs from the soundtrack I’ve got to do the work of going to the channel, finding the playlist, then finding the song I want to listen to next. Frick google
The recommendations are so fricking bad now. I always get recommended videos I've already watched and when I click on a video about woodworking, i still get recommendations about video games in the sidebar instead of relevant videos about wood. It feels impossible to escape your bubble and find new shit. Frick Google.
I dunno, I somehow ended up getting recommended Top Gear compilations and that somehow led to farming videos
And youtube they didn’t start up themselves, they aquired the framework and added so much shit it’s a mess
Can you say it was ever really alive?
I'm still mad about Inbox getting shut down.
shouldn't the reaper be Alphabet Inc or whatever?
I fricking miss Inbox so much.
I don't know why the frick they didn't just integrate it into Gmail fully. They kinda did, but it's nowhere near as good.
They killed it because it was open-source and ad-free.
I still miss play music... The recommendations were always spot on... Not like spotify...
Sometimes the big dumb corporations get it just right. YouTube music had a hay day for a while, but now they insist that I listen to the song Dreams by Fleetwood Mac every single day despite having never gone out of my way to listen to Fleetwood Mac and the genre not matching up at all.
i miss when Ganker wasn't shit
Man, iGoogle was actually good
google video was comfy ._.
Majority of these were shit.
I do have nostalgia about Google Video though. It was better than Youtube in some ways.
something's wrong. How come every Gankertard can look at this project and unanimously say
>it's worthless
but somehow Google with their hundreds of analysts and billions of dollars couldn't see this coming?
The thing about tech companies, especially large ones like Google is that they don't think about things like this at all beyond "I need to be the first." So they throw money at everything and hope that something sticks, while reaping money from the things that worked before.
Both sides are wrong. It's not completely worthless, but google's business model made no sense.
>It's not completely worthless
Cloud gaming will always be a meme
No, it's worthless.
Cloud gaming is literally limited by the physics.
Signals aren't fast enough and never will be.
Even if you had a fiber optic cable connecting you to a data center, you would be limited by the time it takes for light to pass to the data center and back.
Unless you can figure out how to move faster than light or live next door to a data center, it is literally impossible for cloud gaming to be responsive.
>it is literally impossible for cloud gaming to be responsive.
You can run games at 1000/2000fps to decrease lag.
But the big problem with game streaming is that the end user still needs dedicated hardware so at that point it's not even worth it.
Silicon Valley's bubble
Unironically I would trust an opinion of an average Gankertard more than that of the best computer tech market analyst.
Game streaming is still a new and niche field, so even if you have market analysts there's no data to analyze. Without that data, big corporations have no idea how a service will fare, but they still wanted a slice of that multibillion dollar cake called gaming and thought that since streaming has become the primary way of consuming movies and music, video games would naturally follow suit.
Unironically, a perfect example of people with their heads up their ass
It’s not that it didn’t work as such. But they didn’t support it enough. Why stream a game which requires you to be always online when you can just download the same game or get it physically on another platform. It’s not like there were any Stadia exclusives that made it a must have,
Silicon Valley is a massively incestuous circlejerk of an echo chamber. Most of these "analysts" aren't there to actually (y'know) ANALYZE a plan to determine its worth to pursue anymore. No, now when some spoiled Valley shithead with meaningful power at the company gets a dumbfrick idea in his brain, it's the job of his analysts to just cherrypick evidence that exclusively supports the shithead's idea, because appeasing the shithead (even just on the short term) is more important for the company than the company's health since he can threaten to pull anything out from the company relating to him and his circle of influence if he doesn't get his way.
To go off of this: Juicero is a prime example of this, but as an entire venture. Any remote semblance of sanity should've told Doug Evans "no that's absolutely fricking moronic you dipshit" (keep in mind that this was a man that was considered too obnoxiously vegan BY SILICON VALLEY STANDARDS), but lo and behold: he got hundreds of millions of dollars in investing from big tech and celebrities.
If you want a somewhat deeper look into this type of phenomenon, the show Silicon Valley covers this quite a bit with Hooli (the fictional Google stand-in company that plays a large part in the series), especially in relation to the pompous CEO Gavin Belson and his patently idiotic company ventures that his analysts and board of directors can rarely shut down. It's obviously exaggerated and farcical, but rooted in real SV tech company horror stories.
>700 dollar juicing machine
>needed a wifi connection
>"proprietary" juice packets that had QR codes to prevent past-expiry packets from being used (and also just blocking out unapproved juicing in general)
>there was no actual juicing going on; the packets were pre-packaged fruit/veggies with water that could literally just be squeezed by hand easily into a glass, getting a little bit more out of them than with the machine and in faster fashion (but even then you were only looking at a measly ~8oz yield)
Juicero is THE one-word argument against anyone who appeals to the "authority" of shareholders and investors to defend shitty business practices.
what the hell does this have to do with being an obnoxious vegan though? are vegans the only ones who consume juice? i would've thought that the most obnoxious vegans would insist that you should only ever consume juice you made yourself by crushing a real, fresh fruit or vegetable with your bare hands, rather than tainting it with modern environment-destroying technology or something.
Vegans are the only ones too busy to make their own juice but too prissy to buy juice from the store or buy juice from concentrate. They're a micro demographic of morons that are so few and far between that they borderline don't exist and yet their influence is in every major restaurant menu now
>rather than tainting it with modern environment-destroying technology or something.
That is a patently false statement. Vegans (and environmental activists) are the ones who push for things like Impossible burgers, which have to be highly processed and full of artificial flavorings to taste even remotely like real beef.
The founder of Juicero was a moronicly obnoxious vegan and he made this stance ever present in the way business was conducted. He would scream at employees for putting milk in their coffee/tea, and when their main office (where they also prepared the fruits/vegetables for juice packets) had a massive wienerroach infestation he enforced a "catch and release" policy for them instead of having anything to exterminate them.
>come every Gankertard
Because we are the target market and if we don’t want it then it won’t succeed
We don't live in ivory towers, m8.
The people who made Stadia did it to get promoted within Google. Google's employee structure meant that if you dont constantly innovate and try to get ahead of your employees by creating new things you wont get promoted at all. So, the people who are responsible for launching a google product gets promoted and moves on while nobody is around to take care of the product anymore.
They thought game streaming would take off like music, movie, and tv show streaming but they didn't realize that most gamers don't live near a big city right next to a hub that offers acceptable latency and that streaming games is not viable for anyone not in that scenario.
If you live right near the data centers, streaming games works. It's actually pretty nice, but if you don't then it's unplayable.
didn't they demonstrate significant input lag at an actual event that was practically on top of Google's servers
It's kinda backwards. As others said, game streaming is a new field so they can't tell for sure whether it has an audience. Though IIRC it had like 2 seconds of input delay which should have been fixed before launch.
When Ganker says this isn't likely to succeed that is a premonition, but only because we are the target audience (people who play video games). So we have a solid idea what we're willing to play, and at least some idea what's feasible from technical knowledge and an understanding that even good games or consoles can have bullshit issues on launch.
Now it is entirely likely someone on the Stadia team foresaw what issues it would have and expected it to fail. But when your boss has already greenlit the idea after a hasty pitch from some nerd who reads too many iflscience articles, and then invested millions of dollars into the project, you don't have much choice besides to take a bite of the shit sandwich.
It takes half a brain cell to see there's no market for this and people actively avoid it. There've been what, five different companies that tried it, and all gave up and deemed it unprofitable?
Who's done a dedicated game streaming console besides Google?
>dedicated game streaming console
The point of game streaming is that you don't need a console to play the games.
Yeah, but the first to reach the point where people truly own nothing and rely entirely on you for their games, then they will be the ones to bring in the big profits, so to them it's worth the risk.
Google's hundreds of analysts and billions of dollars are present in regions with the infrastructure for a Stadia-like system to work immaculately. Even the Janitors at a Google office are paid well enough to afford the fastest and most consistent internet in their region.
The disconnect is that most Americans (the primary market for this) do not live in areas with sufficiently powerful internet or perfectly consistent connections such that they can have an assured unbroken playtime. Ganker (being primarily Americans) is among the population where "top" internet packages often provide about 10% of the speeds they claim to most of their customers and have frequent outages and/or data caps and other moronic shit that guarantees that significant internet usage will be a very common problem with very little alternatives or solutions (thanks American cable binopolies!). It's a question of Infrastructure and awareness of how it actually exists for most of the country, which most of Google's staff is entirely oblivious to.
Lol that’s not true though. Bay area and california has horseshit internet speed contrary to being the center of tech hubs. I get less ping in my flyover midwestern college town than fricking silicon valley
Its probably some moronic exec who doesnt play games going all in on ~~*cloud*~~ strategy and ignoring the rest
>college
you know colleges tend to spring for extremely robust internet, right?
>map shows California has better connection speeds on average than most midwestern states (Wyoming of all places notwithstanding)
>ACKSHUALLY CALIFORNIA HAS TERRIBLE INTERNET COMPARED TO THE FLYOVERS
California has shit internet compared to the Northeast Corridor, which allows pretty much everyone to have gigabit fiber from DC to Boston.
no negativity in the dojo
all streamed games will be worthless until someone invents tachyon based networking
Same reason Artifact failed. The people making these decisions are literally so far implanted into their own ass they cannot and will not see why something doesn't work until it flat out doesn't.
>crowd is all hyped for your next big reveal
>ARTIFACT
>THE DOTA2 CARD GAME
>the entire room goes "Awwww" in disappointment
>Valve: "hehe le quirky crowd"
mood point, Nvidia Geforce NOW is still going strong. mostly because they just charge you for streaming games you already own on steam/epic on a monthly base (you can also play 1 hour a day for free).
Because streaming services aren't targeted at Ganker, they're targeted to normies that play on devices like their phone exclusively. And Ganker is the furthest from understanding what people like that want. Even if the service didn't have its shortcomings and provided an experience 1:1 of playing locally you'd still see people here being last to adopt paying for a sub to play games.
Normies that play on their phone exclusively aren't interested in paying a subscription fee to stream AAA games, let alone $60 per game. The most profitable mobile games are the ones that are free to play.
You're right that's the bigger reason but Ganker mostly focuses on the other issues like visual quality or latency when in the reality the majority of people do not give a shit.
The problem is that the promise of cloud streaming is delivering visual quality that your smartphone can't without paying the costs for hardware that is capable of it. It's basically impossible to capture the market of people who don't care about graphics or responsiveness without either convincing people who *do* care about those things, or just going free to play.
The method Google needs to do this is bundle it with other shit to suck people in. They probably did this with their new phones or something but that isn't enough. Amazon has the right platform to bundle it with something like Prime.
Google didn't bundle Stadia with their newest Pixel phones, I know because I bought one and it wasn't even included with their "Pixel Pass". Amazon can't bundle it with prime without dramatically increasing the price unless they are willing to lose a significant amount of money on it.
Well then Google is extra moronic then and didn't even try.
>Amazon can't bundle it with prime without dramatically increasing the price unless they are willing to lose a significant amount of money on it.
Every new platform is a loss at launch but that's the only way to get the foot in the door to actually have a solid base try your service. Amazon would raise prices or make a standard and expanded service eventually. You see it constantly with Netflix raising prices or Twitch taking a bigger cut now. You don't think they lost money at first providing Prime streaming at no extra cost?
Not as much as they would stand to lose if they were to bundle game streaming with Prime, without raising the price or offering an anemic game library. There is no viable path for Amazon to make money from game streaming with Prime bundles, mainly because the market for people who are willing to pay more than a hundred dollars a year just to stream games basically doesn't exist. Netflix can afford to raise prices because they dominate the market (see:
), and the fact that Twitch (read: Amazon) is unwilling to take a smaller cut and grow their audience despite using amazon's servers at a lower cost is an indication that Amazon isn't willing to make the necessary investment to make cloud gaming successful.
Amazon won't invest more in gaming since it isn't worth it for them and they likely have cold feet after New World. The point is they have the best platform for it by far since they actually have other services to rope people in. Netflix started with DVD rentals for example and for ages you had both streaming and dvds with the same subscription. No one is going to pay for streaming on its own with a competitive market like this and already well established platforms to buy games.
The fact that even the "best platform" for cloud gaming "by far" still isn't even close to viable or profitable for one of the most valuable companies in the world should tell you something. Netflix only started to expand and increase their market share when they first offered streaming on its own without needing to rent DVDs, back when they had almost no competition for streaming (lol blockbuster) and the company was risking everything on streaming movies becoming profitable.
You're missing that viable or profitable now doesn't mean it won't be in the future. It is too early for game streaming to be mainstream but the idea is to be the first to establish a base so you can corner the market early. It's a bad example but it's the entire reason why Meta has invested so much into VR despite losing billions.
You're missing that there is no realistic path for cloud gaming to become viable or profitable in the future. Amazon would have to be willing to take massive losses on the service well over a decade for little to no benefit for them in order to even stay competitive, let alone corner a market that doesn't really exist and has little reason to.
>It's a bad example but it's the entire reason why Meta has invested so much into VR despite losing billions.
You're right, that is a bad example.
>You're missing that there is no realistic path for cloud gaming to become viable or profitable in the future.
Well there you're just wrong. There's plenty of ways to monetize just like apps are now. Imagine ads when you pause a game for free to play. Game streaming brings endless possibilities when you're in control of the entire platform and you're bringing it to a market where shit like that is already normalized.
There is no way to monetize cloud gaming and also profit without compromises in quality, not just in terms of visuals or latency but with the actual games themselves. The kind of person who primarily plays games on their phones for free is generally not willing to spend hundreds of dollars in order to stream ones with better graphics. The market isn't there.
Game for sure will take a hit in terms of overall quality but that's been happening regardless.
The technology being there is inevitable and we have already seen subscription models being more successful over purchasing outright.
>The technology being there is inevitable
Just like 3DTVs
Not really no. Subscription-only games are not more profitable than buy to play ones, the only real success for subscriptions have been in free to play games where subscriptions are entirely optional. As much as you might not like modern games, most of them haven't lowered their quality in a way to make up for the costs of subscriptions, let alone running a cloud gaming service without massive losses.
You're looking at particular games when the comparison is more akin to something like Gamepass which has been successful.
Gamepass is still less successful than buy to play games, 3rd party publishers have more or less stopped launching games on gamepass day 1 because it kills their sales (the way they actually make money). And even if we agreed that gamepass is somehow successful, it's still a terrible comparison. Microsoft is a gaming company that understands how games are developed and published, unlike Amazon and Google. And you can bet, vegas odds, that the number of gamepass subscribers, arguably the most successful game subscription service out of all of them, playing games over the cloud is a minuscule fraction compared to people who have gamepass and play games exclusively on Xbox and/or PC locally.
Yes obviously it isn't here yet for all the reasons streaming has its issues. You're arguing as things are now vs what it could be in 15 years. People still bought Blu-rays when streaming was available but look at it now.
The biggest problem is these platforms and their inability to baby step. Look at steams cloud saves. That shit rocks. Look at in home streaming, that shit rocks. If these companies wanted to be serious about these detached cloud based systems, they should invest heavily in in home streaming first to get an idea for what they're working with. We already live in a time where people want to make their homes into smart homes, we don't need to jump the shark completely relinquishing control before the infrastructure is even close to ready
Like another anon said, movies are cheaper to make and stream than AAA video games are. You're arguing for how things will be 15 years from now based on rationale that doesn't hold up under scrutiny. "It's the future" might be reasonable for things like VR and game subscriptions, but there is no real market for cloud gaming.
Cheaper to stream sure but AAA games would be subsidized by the platform just like console exclusives are now. Streaming platforms already do this with huge budget shows.
That's basically what gamepass already is, and every other company other than Microsoft have more or less said they can't make a profit by launching AAA exclusives on subscriptions. Not completely unreasonable to think this might change in the future, but there's no real future for cloud gaming exclusives to become more or even just as profitable as letting you download and play them locally.
>but there's no real future for cloud gaming exclusives to become more or even just as profitable as letting you download and play them locally.
I don't know how you can say this when the end goal is basically to have the cost of entry being an app that would probably come pre installed on your TV vs buying a $600+ device that in cases before have been even sold at a profit loss.
As it turns out people who care about playing AAA games that can't run on phones or their smart TV are willing to pay the cost of entry. And the people who aren't willing to pay for dedicated-gaming hardware are not willing to pay subscription fees to play compromised games. 4K Smart TVs are cheaper than they have ever been and yet most people who own TVs are still stuck on 1080p.
The main reason console companies subsidize AAA games in order to grow an install base for their console. At launch consoles sell at a loss, eventually the manufacturing costs become cheaper to make and profitable to sell. The cost for running a cloud gaming service never goes down, the only way to profit is to raise the prices. Which is hard to do when the market's ceiling for cloud gaming is relatively low.
>The cost for running a cloud gaming service never goes down
Of course it does. Do you think the silicon in servers never gets upgraded?
Those upgrades cost money.
No shit? I guess that means upgrading server infrastructure always ends in profit loss, oh wait it doesn't.
It does when you can't expand your market substantially or raise the price.
Or you use shit like Nvidia is doing with AI to offload actual processing. Something you can't do with in home platforms that require hardware upgrades. This entire it costs too much to host is incredibly overstated.
Your sales pitch for cloud gaming is incredibly overstated. It costs too much to host relative to the amount of people you can sell it to, and you can't develop the type of games that can't run on phones by simply offloading it to AI. Why do you think Nvidia's cloud service requires you to bring your own games? Why do you think they still sell hardware upgrades? There is no magic tech or special AI that makes games run on the cloud better than on hardware you can buy. Selling or even just monetizing games you can run on hardware you own is always going to be more profitable compared to selling them through the cloud.
Because Nvidia isn't in the business of being a publisher? If it costed to much to host then Google wouldn't have bothered in the first place. This constant argument of the failures now means it will never be profitable ever isn't valid. You guys just keep going backwards to try to make a point.
>If it costed to much to host then Google wouldn't have bothered in the first place
what happened to the "muh innovation! muh future!" line? Therein lies the answer.
Or was that meaingless shill campaign after all?
It failed for various reasons which shouldn't be a surprise with Google behind the wheel but costing too much to host isn't really it. Even now being on life support they're still keeping the servers on while Ganker goes on that server costs are somehow the major issue here.
>Even now being on life support they're still keeping the servers on
no they're not, that's why they're sunsetting the whole thing. Read the official announcement, mongrel.
Yes, I mean there's nothing stopping them from just shutting it down today. If they were bleeding funds then they wouldn't cut it off in 2023.
There's more to a service than server costs. They're dissolving the branch in charge of it to work on other things most likely.
>there's nothing stopping them from just shutting it down today
a potential lawsuit for sudden disruption of service without any prior intimation sounds like a good reason
>If they were bleeding funds then they wouldn't cut it off in 2023.
Yeah they would. At what point was Stadia not bleeding their funds? Before it launched?
Anons ITT have given you a multitude of reasons why cloud gaming services are doomed to fail beyond server costs. Hint: It's not just Google's problem.
>They're dissolving the branch in charge of it to work on other things most likely.
This is exactly what everyone with a brain predicted the moment the service was announced.
No, the major issue here is that cloud gaming isn't profitable and there isn't a real market for it. No one denied that cloud services can be profitable, we're talking about games you can't run easily. Server costs are only one part of the equation.
You keep failing to make a valid point in the first place. A company basically has to publish games in order to even have a shot at running a successful competitive cloud gaming service. Out of every company that has tried Microsoft has come the closest with Gamepass, a game subscription that doesn't require xCloud and most subscribers don't bother with it. It's not some coincidence that they are also a games publisher. The failures of cloud gaming are stronger evidence to why it isn't profitable than "it's the future".
>A company basically has to publish games in order to even have a shot at running a successful competitive cloud gaming service.
Obviously? The same exact thing would be said for a new console entering the market. Every entertainment subscription service launches with something to bring people in.
The difference is people actually want to buy consoles, and the people that don't couldn't care less about the types of games running off the cloud.
>If it costed to much to host then Google wouldn't have bothered in the first place
It it didn't cost to much then Google would have kept the service running. That they bothered to try therefore it must be good idea is moot point.
Because they only have to worry about upgrades and that's it. They don't need to also subsidize software that costs hundreds of millions of dollars to develop.
>Game streaming brings endless possibilities when you're in control of the entire platform
sounds more like wishes than actual possibility. wanting full control of the platform isn't the same as it actually being successful
Big tech types are out of touch reptile people who live in a bubble.
Simple the world is moronic except us
Because the people behind these projects are typically stuck in an echo chamber and can't think critically or ignore major issues like input lag because their personal connection is smooth because of Google Fiber being their testbed. They're also most likely very casual gamers whereas the people here are deeply involved in the market and understand when they see something that you should at the very least be highly skeptical about. A test of the program from a family friend's house should have been more than enough to see the issues that plague the project.
From the outside everyone could see the issues.
>OnLive already tried this and virtually nothing has changed since then because the same issues still apply even today. Even GeForce NOW and Playstation Now both have enormous issues despite being the major players in this field.
>Input lag is impossible to avoid because we don't have the power of Tachyons since OnLive harvested them all.
>Unless you literally have Google Fiber and are parked right outside of a server hub you are going to have at minimum half a second or more of input lag which is extremely noticeable even to people who don't play video games and it only gets worse the further away from major cities you get.
>Have to pay full price for the games to "own" them despite that being objectively worse than just buying the game on Steam or any other online service using the same amount of money.
>Paid subscription service just gives you game trials and like one free game when this kind of a service should be paid subscription only but you get access to everything.
>You're beholden to whatever the platform owner wants for your games, so if you want to mod, tweak, or downgrade your game it's not possible, at best you can change your quality of the stream which, again, isn't feasible unless you are literally living on a server hub.
Basically it allows them to test their tech before they deploy it for more serious businesses, so it's a win for them even when it "doesn't work out".
Because Gankertards think everything is worthless
Broken clock etc
You and your opinions are worthless.
anon, they hired the founder of this site to try to help and salvage Google+, the antithesis of this place
Google is probable the most moronic of the big tech
Oh yeah, speaking of that gay, does he even still work there? Or did they drop him when Google+ inevitably crashed and burned?
iirc they moved him to the google maps team and he moved out to japan, but i think i saw somewhere recently that he's not working for them anymore
i still miss his shitposts on Ganker
google is so rich they can afford to throw shit at the wall in hopes something sticks. But in general, companies tend to be extremely out of touch with reality, there's a reason why so many f2p games fail spectacularly. Remember juicero?
Google is run by a pajeet.
>but somehow Google with their hundreds of analysts and billions of dollars couldn't see this coming?
american isps were given billions to build infrastructure and instead pocketed the money for big ceo paychecks.
then they lied to the public and government about the network capabilities they possess. google though everyone had decent internet in the us because their own research supported that idea when they failed to take into account CDN redirects from providers to speed up access to certain sites and services.
google is stupid for not seeing this shit.
also most people that work at google literally do nothing and are incompetent.
the only capable people at google are the search engine developers and the people working on chrome and the v8 javascript engine.
everyone else is a literal mouth breather and lies about what they do to keep their cushy 7 figure job in which they have to do literally nothing except maybe edit one line of code a month and then write a design document justifying their edit.
This, I remember Google announcing they gave cox communication hella money to basically build out fiber everywhere in my area. No attempt was made AT ALL in my neighborhood and they basically just paid out a bunch of slick vacations and bonuses
They probably didn't have any input from "gamers" or someone who have videogames as their hobby, and a lot of these silicon valley people and their fans, are so far up their asses and they're so into the idea of "its futuristic that means it good!" that any "different" or "progressive" ideas are immediately and inherently good. Its why no one didn't stop to think Juicero was a dumb idea. No one stopped to think that the invisible, air powered umbrella isn't really useful. These people think conventional, "traditional" stuff needs to change for the sake of it. Its why crypto, NFTs took off as well.
remember you still live on a planet where religions are a thing despite our intelligence as a species
tl:dr morons will be morons even if they have infinite money

You have to go back
why did I hurt your fake god's feelings? beg him to smite me with his nonexistent lighting bolts I will wait pretending I care roflmao
You're a homosexual, that's enough punishment
I didn't have any problems with lag on the few games I tried, though admitedly they weren't games that require next to no lag.
The big problem was the image quality. Whatever codecs google are using are shit. You never look like you're playing at a native 4k; you look like you're playing a youtube video set to 4k.
On top of that the games had next to no graphics settings. With "the awesome power of the cloud" I want to be able to play games at ultra high settings but instead Stadia just locks you into (last gen) console settings.
I can't believe this is happening, this came completely out of left field
I’m pleasantly surprised that they’re actually refunding shit. But also imagine the legal shitstorm if they didn’t. I know that you don’t actually own the games but would the courts care enough on a large enough class action.
KWAB
SSSSSSSSSSS
Is it normal for google to start things then kill them off quickly?
https://killedbygoogle.com/
You WILL own something. You WILL NOT live in the pod. You WILL NOT eat the bugs.
It seems like the employees didn't know. Yesterday, danfromgoogle was talking about the new UI that they just released.
Either that, or they weren't allowed to say anything.
happens a lot in google. management makes decisions flippantly and keeps nobody in the loop
kwab
Even if they knew, leaking anything would be career ending. Why would you throw away your gayMAN career just to leak an announcement everyone knew was coming a few days early?
If everyone knew they would refund, then everyone would have bought stadia and it wouldn't have failed
I don't know how tech illiterate someone has to be to think that streaming vidya with current technology would ever gonna work out.
And I don't know how much of a cuck someone has to be to pay monthly fee and full price for each game that they have absolutely zero ownership of, not even the fricking files to crack if service goes down.
And also on top of that I have no idea how moronic someone has to be to think this is the project google won't abandon after 2 weeks.
That said I'm legitimately surprised they're actually refunding the purchases but that doesn't change the fact that everyone who thought it would sell and everyone who bought it must be a legitimate moron.
>pick up some founders bundle when they're on steep discount just for the chromecasts
>never paid for a sub
>They're going to refund my hardware purchases and not ask for them back
basically got 2 free chromecast ultras
>i got 2 goy trackers for free
Pottery
I still have zero clue what the frick did they mean by this.
Only conclusion is that it's a line up of products that flopped but why would they present their own product in such category?
Someone in marketing pulled one over on their vidya illiterate bosses
>Grouping the Dreamcast with garbage
Yeah frick them
>Grouping trash with garbage
What's the issue?
Dreamcast was great but it was still a failure. I remember getting one of those Best Buy ads in the Sunday paper and it was like $50 in less than a year
I like the Dreamcast but it was a failure. That's what makes that image so weird though
I feel bad that the Dreamcast is there. I get why it’s there, but it was ahead of its time honestly in a lot of ways,
It’s kind of like how the Vita was a flop outside of Japan but it is a far better bit of kit than the 3DS is. The only problem with the Vita really is that Sony went full moron with the memory.
>Sony went full moron with the memory.
Sony knows what they're doing They know those memory cards are going to be the bulk of the profit for the system. It's like how they handle disc types with Blu ray vs Dvds.
None of that means anything if the predatory prices scare people off the system. I was ready to upgrade after how great the PSP was, saw those memory prices and noped the frick out. It was a big dealbreaker at the time.
Yeah if Sony knew what they were doing everyone would be using Sony memory sticks instead of SD cards.
>The only problem with the Vita really is that Sony went full moron with the memory.
I actually walked into a JB Hi-Fi to purchase a Playstation Vita. Got one off the shelf and everything, grabbed a couple of games, saw the memory card prices and just put everything back and got a 3DS instead.
Dreamcast and power glove were both better than stadia
>literally fricking twich frog over this
kys trannie mod
what
>Google is refunding all Stadia purchases — hardware, software, and DLC.
...sounds like a decent way to go about it.
well the people that got the subs are fricked, no refunds and they'll lose all save data on like pretty much every game.
why anybody would pay for this shit is beyond me
I hope it will appease the "You'll own nothing" autismos knowing a cloud platform died

Can this be used on PC?
yes, but only for wired, if at least it has good quality of buttons I don't care so it has less input lag for using it like that
UMM GUYS I SAW ON TWITTER JUST YESTERDAY THAT STADIA ISNT DEAD BUT IS ACTUALLY BETTER THAN EVER!!! WTF IS HAPPENING!!! WHAT HAPPENS TO THE THOUSANDS IVE SPENT ON THE NEXT STEP TOWARDS THE FUTURE OF GAMING?!?!?!??
Phil Harrison at a future job interview:
“Your resume is quite prolific, when were you at Sony?”
“when the PS3 was revealed”
“…OK, well y’know, bad luck is all. Ooh…Microsoft afterwards.”
“Xbox One reveal”
“….Google?”
“Stadia”
“…Thanks for coming in, we’ll inform you if we’re interested in moving forward”
people like that fail upwards, he will end up at amazon or netflix
no way
To the surprise of about 0 people,
Nah, I'm sure all 10 people who fell for the Stadia in the first place are moronic enough to be surprised by this.
Cloud, Quantum, and VR gaming won't be viable in our lifetime
a-are video games healing?
load the fricking page and gimme a free chromecast google.
Wait, this shit is actually wifi? There's no ethernet cable port?
No wonder everyone says it is laggy. Cloud gaming is already laggy on a good setup, imagine on wifi then
https://store.google.com/product/chromecast_ethernet_adapter_gen_2?hl=en-US
100Mbps built into the optional power adapter
I played Stadia a lot on one of those chink android tv boxes via wifi and noticeable delays didn't really happen that often for me
It definitely happened but in most playthroughs I'd just get a stutter for maybe a second once ever couple of hours -- annoying but definitely not experience breaking
Depends on your internet/wifi setup I guess
The technology was definitely neat and the few games I tried were playable
Didn't play on Stadia, but I played Xcloud and PSNow, and delay is DEFINITLY an issue
You just say that because you are used to it, and likely don't play games where reaction needs to be fast. A fighting game or pvp FPS game on cloud gaming for example, is asking to get stonked.
I've been mostly playing The Division 2 and it's good enough to handle a fire fight
On my actual PC that I play DMC5 and MGSV,... The experience is definitely better, but Stadia really isn't as bad as people seem to think it is
I've only been using Stadia after getting it for Christmas last year though, maybe the experience drastically improved since the beginning?
I bought Sekiro and RDR2 a while back during a sale because the Stadia reviews i found said they were playable and i wanted to check if they held up
Haven't gotten around to playing then yet -- I'll need to try before January I guess
I played that PS4 remote thing years ago and the delays there were absolutely noticeable and were a problem with action games, even if you were playing on the same network
Trying Stadia out the first time: the tech itself impressed me
All that said, it getting killed by Google doesn't surprise me
Their marketing and attempts to lure new users was pretty terrible; it's like they have up from the start
Ok, now do it to the m*tav*rse next
The marketing was on point.
What went wrong?
they didn't put jade in lingerie on stage

Thanks, Jim
>No it's not shutting down, we're working on really big things. No we can't say what they are, but trust us that they're going to be huge and not shut down either.
>Shuts down
Every single time
To be fair, they knew Stadia wasn't shutting down then. Evidence points to them only learning that it was shutting down today. Google has been downsizing in a frenzy and probably just made the executive decision to cut them off now.
Google investors probably found out about the secret videogame division today

So desperate. If stadia was successful, he will be THE youtuber stadia. But after two years it was kinda obvious, dude. I guess nfts are his next bet.
Stadia-tan and Ouya-tan sharing the same cardboard box!
Fun?
Jesus
Post the other one, with the argument, that the lag is not as bed once you get used to it.
OnLive in 2009
Stadia in 2019
Who will try again in 2029?
Microsoft already has a pretty good game streaming service. Nvidia is doing pretty good too. Google just got fricked because nobody likes them or was interested in their service.
Doesn't help that they charged for games you wouldn't even own and could only play with an online connection to their service. And also that half of their projects die.
In all fairness, half of every tech company's projects fail and die off.
I argued with a Stadiagay that Stadia was actually not convenient and incredibly overpriced compared to the competition. Not only did you need a powerful internet connection, which is costly, but their games were never on sale, so shit that costs $10 on the PlayStation/Xbox/Steam stores costs $60 on Stadia. You could literally buy a console with the savings you get by buying most games on competing platforms over Stadia. Publishers never matched discounts on Stadia.
That's the thing, that's the end game of streaming only gaming.
But if the service shuts down what happens to your games?
refunded
>What happens to your games?
They killed them
And they will kill again
ROSS LOOK OUT THERE'S MOLD BEHIND YOU
Game streaming will quite literally never catch on.
good morning sirs
one copy of bioshock, please
Good morning, sir
Who was the Stadia for? I don’t understand. What type of gamer saw the Stadia and said yes? Seriously, tell me.
It wasn't made for customers. Had google just asked first they would've quickly found out that there's no market for it. Just another vanity project for someone high on hubris thinking that they know what customers want.
People who didn't want to bother with downloads or upgrading hardware. But silicon valley is an opaque bubble, so they could never see that nobody but them had the internet to support it.
>Who was the Stadia for?
You ever glance at the Stadia subreddit? Try it. Dad gamers that liked to post pics of their devices running Stadia that never make it past the title screen of games.
there are analysts who predict that cloud gaming is the future. After all cloud based music services like spotify, video like youtube and netflix are successful. Why wouldnt video games be the next frontier where cloud services would thrive? All it takes is just one company to innovate and be the first on the market. That's why you should invest billions into it.
And that's how we got so many video game cloud services by various major companies that nobody uses.
Those analysts should go back to whatever fricking community college they got their worthless B.S. from
>Why wouldnt video games be the next frontier where cloud services would thrive?
Because they can't just stop and buffer when things start slowing down. I mean they can, but nobody is going to pay for it.
3DTV
> this is the analyst in charge of your critical business decision
No wonder corporations make one mistake after another
Those analysts dont game. Simple as. Anyone who really gives a damn about gaming knows that input delay is a game breaker. I mean, no one would invest in spotify if music streaming somehow turned every track into a dissonant symphony of kazoos. Analysts that come to that conclusion just see that vidya is a titan in the entertainment industry and streaming is hot, so: vidya + streaming = $$. Its the most shallow level of analyzing conceivabe. Literal elementary school logic being applied. Its fricking insane the amount of money that clueless investors dump into hopeless projects like this. All because boomer investors and analyst thots dont actually game, yet want in on an industry they fundamentally dont understand.
more importantly, no one is getting promoted for saying no. 20 sweaty neckbeards can raise all of the same objections as Ganker but if one bullshitter knows how to grease the management with the right buzzwords and wishful thinking then they'll get the green light
>cloud based music services like spotify, video like youtube and netflix are successful.
YouTube and Netflix run on a massive deficit.
ime, weirdos on hackernews who have never played a vidya but really wanted to play red dead with lag for some reason

not him but I've purchased physical games before and have never seen an EULA in one that told me I merely licensed the game
F
What went right?
Having an already established platform didn't hurt.
Stadia is by far way better as a streaming service though. The quality and input lag are significantly less than the competitors. Hopefully they sell this tech to other companies.
The fact that it's completely optional and attached to an actual valuable service instead of POWER OF LE CLOUD snake oil.
Checking reddit post from a couple of days ago is pure magic.

it's mind blowing how a company like Google didn't see this shit coming.

is there any bigger redflag than one of these companies that avoid saying gamer at all costs?
im glad it failed cause not owning your fricking games is a terrible concept.
I remember that they had a few indie games as timed exclusives and that's about it. Would say that it's too bad that they only lasted 3 years but I wont even notice that they're gone. S
I don't get how Google products can fail.
They control the search algorithms and have enough income from their core services to spend billions shilling and subsidising any new product or service they want across all media platforms.
How do you fail with that amount of backing?
because they have all those things they are completely up their own ass and refuse to do actual market research. they think that if they control enough inputs they will be able control outcomes.
All these people on twitter saying "all it needed was exclusives".
No one wants a product exclusive to a service that is doomed to fail. Even if it were successful for 15 years, your product is dead and forgotten after that.
I knew it was going to shutdown eventually but i honestly thought Stadia would be around atleast a few more years
guess Stadia was doing worse than i originally thought lmao
Suddenly the judgement PC port coming out unceremoniously makes sense
>have biggest advertising platform in the world
>Every successful business uses your advertising platform
>Start a new project
>Spend 0 dollar on marketing
>Literally no ads on their own search engine/ad platform
>Could literally shill the frick out of "gaming related" search queries if they wanted to
Seriously what were they thinking?
They got high on tech startup
They advertised in the new Google way, place ads at the top of your search and don't even label them as such anymore. Google within recent years has really outted themselves as a horrible evil corporation where websites I used to frequent simply don't show up because they didn't pay the alphabet mafia their dues and as such sit on page 9 of a Google search for their own fricking name
A what?
i dont know how fricking dumb you have to be to believe the very idea of a video game streaming platform would work but it must seriously be extraordinarily fricking dumb. I can't fricking believe there were ever any human beings that thought streaming a video game over the internet would ever work. What the frick? How do you POSSIBLY get so fricking stupid? Jesus christ, the concept is moronic beyond belief.
When you're fricking rich, drunk on the terrible quality tap water, and spend all day 10+ stories above street level, any idea with enough conviction sounds good. You could convince these big dumb idiots that what's holding gaming back is a bunch of poor yuppies who don't have enough space in their apartment for an Xbox, and want to play in every room, and they also are very busy so they need to suspend the game like a phone app, and also they have fiber internet, and also they won't notice 4 seconds of input lag on the backend.
Those damn pesky laws of physics got in the way again! Maybe next time.
Cloud gaming can frick off, shit, they only want to do it so they can shut you off if you scream Black person in a multiplayer game
They can already do that. You can't scream slurs at strangers in multiplayer games without the internet and LAN gaming is dead.
mw2 beta was nothing but kids screaming frick you Black person

Been waiting for this day since the system was announced so I can laugh at the people who bought one. My life may be falling apart but at least I didn't buy a fricking Stadia.

But it's supposed to be faster than light.
I pressed F over a year ago, I'm still waiting for the server.
At the very least they're refunding the money for pretty much everything not a subscription. Most companies would try to hold on to those couple hundred dollars, but it's a show of good will to refund it once they decided to kill it.
stupidity never ceases to amaze that people will not only get a tattoo, but one of products

It's a shame Google did frick all to properly get people to use it. Even the store was quite a mess. The service failing was pretty much a given with that.
I got one of those cheap bundles for Christmas and the technology itself is pretty neat actually. I hope it survives in another form.
>This was the last generation of consoles they said
>Nobody will be gaming locally in 10 years they said
this idea is too early in thought process.
The guy who was doing livestreaming of his daily life was doing it in 1999-2000. It wasn't until like 2013-2014 people started getting comfortable with that idea.
game over stream will become a bigger market share eventually.
Seeing how nvidia is headed torwards batch processing an AI cloud network of GPUs the future is grim
Well no shit, in the future xboxes will be the size of a sugar cube because parts will be able to get that small
>they are giving full refunds
now I regret not getting it lol
The controllers are pretty good.
They can already be used wired on Steam but if Google/someone would release firmware to get them to also be used wirelessly via Bluetooth that would be swell.
What a wonderful day it is

Wow, Christmas came early.
where are all the stadia shills now?
Reformed.

Physical-chads will inherit the earth Kneel!
Wtf bros it was supposed to revolutionize the gaming?
fricking finally because it released judgement from stadia exclusivity limbo
you mean judgment?
you know that's been out on steam for almost 2 weeks?
I know but stadia death was the reason it got released, the fact that they announced end of service a bit latter changes nothing

it only took fricking 1,5 of fumbling to finally fall over
Good. Now kill GeForce Now, GamePass and PSNow. Game streaming as an idea should be killed
Can I still ask them to send me a free gamepad? It looks kinda cool.
What did they do to her?
Watched as she tried to get something to eat, but was unable to because of input lag and slowly starved to death.
Wait, it wasn't dead already. I could've sworn this isn't the first time I've seen this news. Oh well, happy ending is a happy ending.
Frick Goolag
Frick STD
I was a game developer that used stadia for multiple games. ask me anything
yes im happy about the news
how were the google payouts?
in one case exclusivity for a year was enough money to finance development for every other major platforms. it was a shitload of money early on. later in time these deals were less lucrative. i dont have raw numbers for you but given costs of development for xbox/playstation/switch/pc at the same time, it was a frickton of money

>this image created numerous butthurt threads because of the sony depiction and billions of edits were made to make him a troony or fat
It's weird seeing computing transitioning back to a terminal-mainframe setup
If you bought a Stadia you actually got a controller, a Chromecast ultra and whichever game you bought for free (well, you paid the money, but you are getting it back). I wish I had lol
Is the controller even worth using?
Different anon here
It is. I definitely regret not buying a second controller when I had the chance (especially knowing Google would have refunded it as well)
it's ok
it connects over wifi instead of bluetooth to whatever you're playing on
I'd say just for having another controller for the PC and for the curiosity, it would be word it
I’ll press S to spit
Literal best case scenario. Everybody gets their money back and cloud based gaming dies. A glimmer of hope for the future of this dogshit industry.

>got my 60€ for buying cyberpunk back
>put them in the gog version of cyberpunk now that it actually works
thanks google!
I wish they weren't refunding. morons deserve to lose their money.
it was still going around? just assumed they quietly put it down years ago
we did it gamers...finally
>two frames
That's pretty conservative. I've seen videos of input lag over a second long. Literally unplayable for anything not turn based.
What about my games?
Lmao, good riddance. Hopefully more will now realize that cloud gaming is awful and holds back actual progress
Who's the trash lady?
Ouya tan
Dang. Never actually bothered to try Stadia because see picrel but the controller has been my main PC gamepad for the past year with another as a backup (actually bought 3 but gave 1 away) and I was hoping to get one more backup this year.
At least I'm apparently be getting my money back.
I am getting a refund you fricking illiterate morons, I bought the founders edition. Jokes on you stupid b***h.
This "console" got no promotion from google, it's not surprising that it failed.
I mean it was promoted pretty heavily compared to every other cloud gaming platform. Yeah Google sucks at marketing their own products (go figure) but it's not like anyone else is trying any harder.
Nobody bought Stadia because they assumed Google would kill it, and Google is killing Stadia because it's unpopular.
Google's reputation for killing services killed the service. No amount of promotion ever fixes that.
They had every opportunity to overcome their reputation and never took it. The fact that no cloud gaming service took off during or even after the pandemic is proof positive it's doomed to fail.
there were a lot of ISPs flopping during the pandemic, completely failing to deliver low latency connections
which is what you would expect given practically every ISP everywhere when under high load begins to fail, because they never really upgrade shit unless its a new means to micro manage their users.
Dunno where you live but here in the US ISPs were fine during the pandemic. There has never been a time in human history where people were more reliant on the internet and there were actual hardware shortages everywhere. The idea that the internet was too overloaded to handle cloud gaming is just false.
Live east coast US, myself including friends from massachusetts to new jersey were plagued by shitty ISP problems for the majority of the pandemic.
That's bullshit. No major ISP in the north east flopped during the pandemic, if anything it became easier to upgrade to higher internet speeds, and ISPs with data caps were lifting them and giving bandwith away.
They didn't fail on speeds, they failed on delivering reliable low latency connections. There was not a single online game we could play without getting ass fricked by frequent ping spikes. Given a service like stadia relies on low latency, it was destined to fail.
Yeah no This is clearly a (you) problem. I live in Camden, NJ and played with people living outside of Boston and on the west cost. There weren't any online games suffering due to internet connections during the pandemic anymore than they were before. Claiming that it was somehow *harder* for cloud gaming to take off during the pandemic is complete nonsense.
I'm in Mass and got even faster internet.
I remember this shit was getting shilled on Youtube by obvious pajeets lmao. Surprised Google didn't kill it immediately.
The fact that they're refunding ALL purchases I think says how few purchases they ever had on the platform.
just goes to show all the money in the world can't make up for incompetence
No one used Stadia like how no one used Google+.
Dead Game news? Since this was a streaming device does that mean people who bought this wont be able to play "their" games?
They're actually offering refunds. I'm surprised.
Everyone's getting refunded for all the hardware, games and DLC they paid for. Full refunds for everything. You don't even have to send the hardware back, and the Chromecasts and stuff will still work even after Stadia shuts down.
inb4 it's just google credit
Apparently they're refunds to your original payment method
Imagine the shitshow.
Fricking LOL. They didn't try at all. brb, gonna check on the Plebittors. They must b pretty angry about this.
And nothing of value was lost Good thing those who got sucked in are getting refunded.
