Still use this guy's quotes to this day, specifically STEP ON THE GAS and that one.
Great voice acting variety. Love this Southern monkey and this Brooklyn monkey
. Don’t pahty just yet!
i wonder if that's one of the reasons people haven't messed to much with SF64, because you can't have an of the voices in the new levels you would be making
I CAN'T STOP IIIIIIIIT!!!
>HIT+50
I always thought the G-Diffuser would be some sort of countermeasures
It's a shame this guy didn't make more of these
I would have loved to see the cross sections for the Landmaster, Great Fox, and Wolfen
Arwing and Wolfen are great designs.
Has nintendo ever sold an Arwing figure or something like that? I would pay so much for that. Hell i'm gonna see if one can be 3D printed
They made a figure for starlink, and for Star Fox 3D there was a promotional one but it's really rare. There's a model kit too for $66.
The Starlink Arwing is decent considering you can get it and the game for about $5. You will have to deal with the ugly black sockets on it if you don't put the starlink cannons on them though.
>StarFox team uses prototype Arwings in the Lylat wars.
>Get paid.
>Use money to pay back some/all the loan on the Great Fox.
>Nobody needs to hire mercenaries for a long time.
>StarFox team doesn't do anything that makes money besides be mercs.
>Become poor, strip down their ships and SELL parts and modify them.
>Arwings become sluggish, slow, weak for the REST of the entire series.
Why did we let Nintendo get away with this?
The Arwings in 64 are still the best to fly in game and in canon.
Didn't fox use an Arwing 2 in Command?
By the way, frick command. Despise that game, actually just sucks and idc if it's a skill issue or whatever I just hated playing it.
The Arwing 2's are the mass produced Cornerian army versions that the team upgraded.
So still inferior to the protoype models they had in the Lylat wars.
Am I just going blind or is this image potato quality? I had to zoom in to read the smaller text on the bottom. Is there a higher res version?
All reds, don't be a pussy
Are you on mobile?
If only Nintendo would take their own games this seriously.

Someone is working on a pc port at least, its early in dev but they have pics of it running.
Do you have a link ?
Nice try, Nintendo.
>Lazy NEET doesn't just do it himself
Heh...
Fricking have a nice day already holy shit
great game
>tfw you manage to beat Katina without accidentally killing any allies
I don't remember Fox wearing sunglasses.
that's when you beat the game and get all medals iirc
you get the sunglasses only if you are playing on Expert mode, to unlock expert mode you must get all the medals in all the stages. While on expert mode, there are more enemies, they are more violent, you take a lot more damage and your wings will break with just one collision so be very careful!
I forgot, if you finish expert mode you get 2 cool pictures depending of which venom route you took.
This one is for the "bad ending"
And this one is for getting the true ending, pretty sweet, eh?
are these included in the 3DS version?
I don't really remember, i think they changed them up a bit and used the newer renders of the characters
How did I never know this, I beat the game a million times as a kid
I've been playing this game and comsider it in my top 5, I've never known this. I gotta get the medals!
Go get those medals, anon
hold L + Z to charge your laser without locking on to a target and blast them with splash damage to get an additional hit+1
Frick I meant R + Z
Good luck. Sector Z is actually pretty hard to get the medal on iirc because there are so few enemies. If one of your teammates destroys a missile you might as well restart.
Oh I have a fricking story about expert mode
>area 6
>got pretty much every medal
>at the boss
>got hyper lasers, waiting for the fricker to open up
>falco flies at me from the right, with zero time to react
>right wing and hyper lasers gone instantly
>mfw
That happened to my brother one time, he managed to get to venom with blue laser and right before star wolf showed up, Peppy hit him and fricked his wholw shit up
Did he also say
>GET OUTTA MY WAY!
I remember that happening as a kid and being pissed off that not only did Falco slam into me but he fricking immediately blames me. Wanker
No, but I definitely remember yelling "FALC-" before remembering it was 2am and I would've woken up the house had I gotten any louder.
yes
That's even worse, considering how much of a pain the star wolf fight is with the basic laser. It's a great fight, at least. But a very fricking hard one.
this is the first time i see that dialogue haha...
Star Fox 64 did so much with so little, masterclass of cinematic direction.
>we got the dub's masters thanks to iQue
Apologize to chinks, Ganker.
The team running with the sunset and the Greatfox emerging from the horizon, with the music, true kino
I like the little touch, where if you frick up in sector z and great fox is hit it'll have the damage during this part.
>Slippy keeps falling behind
>slippy is slowly falling behind during the entire running sequence in the ending
you think he's falling behind in the opening, too?
why the FRICK CANT THEY JUST MAKE A PROPER SEQUEL ITS BEEN 20 YEARS IM STILL WAITING
Boy do I have the game for you, anon.
have a nice day
We aren't asking for a reboot with a horrible fricking gimmick
>with a horrible fricking gimmick
That's just Miyamoto and Nintendo's game design philosophy for the most part, outside of shit like NSMB, they don't just "do more of the same", they'll always constantly re-inventing the wheel for their IPs like Mario and Zelda.
Mario Odyssey being designed around Cappy and also Mario Wonder being designed around the Wonder Seeds in theory is not too far removed from how Zero was designed around the two screen control gimmick as its selling point.
>they don't just "do more of the same"
>Starfox Adventures being a Zelda clone
I understand Nintendo's philosophy just fine, that doesn't mean there aren't times where it doesn't work like with Starfox.
You are just bad at videogames, so you are the one that should kill himself instead.
>t. world's smartest wiiu customer
Never heard of this Ganker sell me on it I'm 38 and played the frick out of the original when I was a kid I'm a dad gamer casual that just uses Ganker to talk shit about video games and barely plays them but only plays old games.
You got a Wii U?
No but I figured I could emulate it I'm pc only
That's going to be impossible. It used the gamepad a lot.
Got you but was it good?
I would say it's a mixed bag. The gyro controls with the gamepad ruin what could have been a good game.
Why the frick haven't the devs made something like remoting to your pc from your phone through moonlight and using your phone as the gamepad?
It was an okay game.
I think it was Miyamoto's swan song. I'm pretty sure they never allowed him to work directly on a game ever again after that one. The mini game he made was terrible. It was some weird tower defense game.
Part of me truly misses when games didn't copy formulas that worked and tried new shit. Not saying this is the case for this example but I'm so sick of formulas and I miss how when I grew up everything felt more uncharted. Now people are like "it's a souls game" or a "battle royale" when those were implemented they were revolutionary and now whether it's movies tv or games nobody wants to make a brand new project or idea it's always reboot remake or based on.
Well we were pretty much grew up in the Golden Age when everything was new. There are only so many genres left to explore and create without mashing two known genres and putting them together. Its why games like Undertale which was basically a JRPG + rhythm game was a new twist on two old ideas. All we have to do is mash up two old genres and put them together.
I think a part of this is that making games nowadays is way more expensive. Art, animation and all that shit requires way more teams than it once did and it's very risky to head in a new direction, because if you're a 100+ employee dev studio and your game flops, that could kill your whole studio.
I'll let israelitetube articulate my opinions for me, but tldw it's basically a retread of 64 with little new stuff to justify its own existence, and what few new ideas exist are unfun.
?t=825
This guy pisses me off. He ends every sentence with a weird inflection.
I know a very high cliff you can jump off.
I actually liked Zero's aim with the controller gimmick
This is great game. Controls aren't that hard to get used to.
Did you know that the weird on-foot multiplayer mode in SF64 is actually remnants of a cut third Venom stage from the single-player, which would have involved Fox jumping out of his Arwing and battling Andross on foot with a bazooka? This was cut for time constraints, and the battle mode is a mere remnant of this idea.
https://www.reddit.com/r/starfox/comments/x938ib/behold_an_attempt_at_translating_an_interview/
https://www.reddit.com/r/starfox/comments/10gmwe9/fox_was_going_to_fight_andross_with_a_bazooka_a/
Think about that the next time you think that on-foot combat has no place in Star Fox.
It was shit in multiplayer and I bet time constraints weren't the only reason it was cut from the campaign
Must be why it's not exactly the most polished part of the game.
Weren't they already working on an on-foot Star Fox game when Dinosaur Planet was shown off by Rare and they decided to just put Fox in that? I read that somewhere, but I don't remember the source.
Forgot the link with all the sources oops
https://www.vgfacts.com/game/starfoxadventures/trivia-17084/
"It looks really nice, doesn't it? I wish they would use Star Fox characters so that they could use the title Star Fox Adventures. Maybe I should call the team and talk about it [laughs]."
It was his Iwata moment because he cheekily said all of this after Nintendo had already intercepted Rare at their hotel before E3 and arranged this deal. Then arranged Namco to make Assault before the adventure game he always wanted even sold a copy.
>What a sad story! (raffs)
Oh fug
Prequel with the OG Star Fox Team fricking WHEN?!?!?
Why are you people like this?
I just love Pigma, man
This was actually something Takaya Imamura brought up a lot back in 2011.
https://www.vgfacts.com/game/starfox64/trivia-17360/
Nothing really came of it before he retired in 2021, sadly.
Back when James' squad weren't heroes the army called on so much as they were just mercenaries. When Pigma, the p.o.s. he is was a dude James laughed with and Peppy wanted more.
Never. Modern Nintendo can't make a good star fox game, and a prequel would take a lot of skill to pull off properly. Considering it'd likely end with james dying.
Anon, if Doom and Armored Core were brought back from death, Star Fox is able to do so as well.
Fricking asiatics just need to get some real leadership out there
Doom and AC were brought back by people who love those franchises. I daresay nobody at Nintendo 2024 loves Star Fox.
New Doom doesn't play at all like Doom though, which is why plenty of people stuck or returned to the old game. But to its credit, new Doom also doesn't just copy popular trends entirely and is really its own thing, which gives it merit.
star fox never needed to go to 3d, so it was just a choice of how to develop an on-the-rails shooter. So far only 64 has been truly good (snes SF is neat for its time but was pretty rough to play even at release)
I don't think Miyamoto gives a single shit about Star Fox, even all the way back in 2003 or so he just slapped it on Dinosaur Planet.
This. If Miyamoto doesn't like something he'll let it rot because it "needs" something innovative to justify a new title. Meanwhile Mario is allowed to have the exact same game a million times over.
Miyamoto has gone on record many times stating that he loves Star Fox. The issue is, he doesn't know what he should do to make a good Star Fox game.
They need to see what other games are doing with space shooters and dogfighters, but being Nintendo, I doubt they do because they just do whatever they think is a good idea.
Don't get me wrong, they're very very good at a lot, but for whatever reason, they just can't do Star Fox.
The most annoying part, is Ubisoft basically made them the perfect example game with that weird Starlink game with the toys to life shit. If Nintendo just commissioned them to do that with Star Fox, remove all the toys to life shit, get rid of the human characters and make it 100% star fox, shit would be an undeniably fun game.
All I want is SF Assault successor, with online multiplayer and basically give us furry classic Halo and you've got yourself a winner.
If they made dogfighting only multiplayer modes, you could do what people wanted from Halo Reach's space sections in multiplayer.
Shit would be fricking awesome, but after SFZero flopping, I doubt that anyone at Nintendo will get the green light to make more Star Fox, never mind one as grand as I'm pitching.
Happy Bday SF64! I wish the franchise got better treatment, but until they figure out what to do, you'll be kept alive by Smash and porn.
They would ruin it the same way they ruined Hyrule Warriors 2 when it was supposed to be a backstory. They can't let things end on a sour note because it would scare the kids.
Hopefully never
Jesus Falco you can't say that!
You think Cornerian bonobians had their own boroughs and ghettos that Falco would walk at night to purposely get into fights?
>I can't BELIEVE I lost to this SCUUUUUUUUUUUM!!!!!
Love that guy's performance
Gonna play to celebrate the anniversary, choose my route Gankerros
Rumble pak ready, time to game
Impressive.
WE'RE HEADING FOR AQUAS
I always wondered why the art on the cartridge was of a random enemy in the game and not something more conventional. It's pure soul though they don't really do it like that anymore
All red, bro.
Yes, I'm fully aware that means skipping Train Planet.
Anybody who gives you a route that skips Macbeth is a fricking idiot, Sector Z and Titania are both ass and you can hit either side of venom from Macbeth
Titania is cool and I would take that over Macbeth if there was a route to Area 6 instead of Bolse.
I won't tolerate this Titania slander, it's a good mission overlooked due to placement and route. Macbeth had the better overall level with the train gimmick but Titania was a great tank level and a decent challenge for the easy route
THIIIIS is the enemy's BIIIOOweapon!?
HELL YEAH! STAR FOX!
>
>
>
>NO
>HIT THE BRAKES
I CAN'T STOP IT
>HIT + 50
That explosion at the end of the train level was the most awesome thing as a kid
>Rumble Pak goes wild
>LOUD EXPLOSIONS AND BOOOOOOM
Shit felt good
Aww hell yeah this was one of the best moments in the game. The train engineer's lines, the huge fricking explosion, the controller going nuts with the rumble pack. Frick yeah nothing was more satisfying
Almost 30 years later and I can still perfectly hear the sheer desperation in his voice.
How's the remake?
The uncompressed audio feels weird and no online was a huge missoportunity, also no rumble sadly, other that, it's starfox 64 so pretty solid
I wouldn't recommend it only because the voice lines fall flat in that version.
You're taking point anon, which route we taking?
Man, i remember drawing the entire map just to show my friend at school all the routes, good times
First we are going to Meteo to defraud the Cornerian govt by claiming every meteor we blow up is an enemy fighter
Kek, based. Pepper reacting to the bill according to your score is such a nice way to end the game
>First we are going to Meteo to defraud the Cornerian govt by claiming every meteor we blow up is an enemy fighter
Fricking thiiiis
double warp zone to the good ending
Whatever the hell I want.
My favorite route was Corneria -> Meteo -> Katina -> Sector X -> Macbeth -> Area 6 -> Venom
I'd occasionally switch it up but that was my comfy play through and I did it enough to be comfy doing it on expert.
I think I only played easy and medium as a kid
The highest score I got when I was a kid was over 2000 hits or something. I played the shit out of this game.
>Barely crawl to venom on red route
>get 1v4'd by star wolf
im so fricking ass at this game, still love it
This level is pure kino. It's a shame it locks you into easy Venom.
It's weird they put this one on the easy path since imo it's a lot more challenging than Macbeth
Any more webms from the game?
Fricking landmaster levels OST is pure unadulterated SOVL
?si=64WGjXJw_gtqXwrO
This level filtered me for months when I was 8. Clearing it felt like a feat equivalent to leaping the goddamn Empire State building.
The only bad level in the game, I hate it. Thankfully it's on the shit easy path, despite being one of the hardest, so I can always avoid it.
One of my favorite games growing up. Got expert mode and was so close to getting medals on all the levels, but could never manage to get it on Sector Z. The scoring requirement is so harsh for it.
Your allies end up stealing the 10 points for destroying the missiles. The enemy ships are really inaccurate in this particular level. If you let them chase your teammates it'll take a while before they land even a single hit and when they're evading attacks they won't pursue the missiles.
Yes.
Well no time like the present to dump
My advanve for getting the medal on sector Z, get the satelites, they are crucial for such a chaotic level, also get there from sector X so Cat won't show up and take some missils from you
The uncompressed audio that leaked a few years ago gave me even more respect for the voice acting. The acting is just the right amount of campy without bleeding over into dumb, and that takes a lot of skill to pull off
Frick! That was harder than i remembered! But still just as good as the first time!
Expert mode always fricks me up when I come back to it after a long time
Normal mode makes me feel so invincible that I get complacent
What's everyone's favorite route? I like this one as it bypasses sector Z for the much better Macbeth. Only real "bad" level is Aquas, and that isn't THAT bad. I also enjoy the sector X warp but I wish there was a good route with Titania, it's an underrated level
I do it for Katina
Corneria, meteo, fichina, sector X, Macbeth, Area 6, and Venom 2. I like fighting starwolf
Sector Z was the only level I couldn’t get the gold medal on. Pissed me off.
I really like Aquas. I don't know why everyone seems to hate it. It's a really cool location and has a few challenging segments. It's not as fast as the rest of the game but it's a relaxing change of pace for just one level.
OK but seriously how does gravity work in the Lylat System?
According to interviews, Solar is NOT the Lylat system's star
The actual star is offscreen somewhere
How’s that work? Does the entire system orbit around it like some hammer?
That causes even more concerns
So, the Lylat system just has a small star spinning through it like some overactive gas giant? That seems like it'd wreak havok on the planets in it.
This one is the best. Zoness is great.
Fake venom is the better version though. Star wolf fight is boring.
I remember that the multiplayer unlockables were so out of reach as a child that some of us thought they were mythic tier, like Luigi in Mario 64. I unlocked the foot mode and told my friends about it and they didn't believe me, it was such an absurd thing that they'd have no reason to add. Yet when they came to my house, I showed them it and thought I was the shit. The mode was cool at the time, it probably sucks nowadays gameplay wise but its still one of my favorite unlockables.
It really is a great unlockable even if the novelty wears off after about 10 minutes. It does seem an absurd thing that probably took a while to program and develop for such a small thing in the game. Pretty neat
That guy is sick, gonna save our homie slippy
Star Fox 64 was the coolest fricking game, man. They did a really good job with the presentation.
God those moments were so satisfying to witness.
Why is james talking
>He didn't unlock expert mode
It was always so satisfying to smoke one of starwolf mid dialogue and hear it cut out as they fricking explode.
How did Starfox influence your life anons?
It gave me the courage to finally transition
it made me main wolf in smash and win $200 in a tournament once in 2019
it made me cut off my legs
Makes me happy for the good times a fricking sad because the franchise is dead and nintendo has no idea what to do with them. Here's hoping that the Switch 2 gets a starfox game that doesn't sucks balls
they can't do anything meaningful.
>mercenaries don't mesh well with kiddy companies
metroid has the excuse that enemies are freaky alien abominations and robots/suits, and samus works alone
>obviously evil saturday morning cartoon villains are out
>war is off-limits as a plot. unless you're aiming for the battlefield/cowadoody audience (M rating)
>rail shooters are a dead genre. to make things worse, autists will b***h ceaselessly if they go with a different one
>series is infamously wasted as a tech demo testbed, which further kills its possibilities
bounty hunters and mercs are two sides of the same coin: cold-blooded murderers
>Illumination
no faith. least of all with how they sidelined mario and turned peach into a hypercompetent sassy disrespectful mary sue
Pushes me to keep trying hobby game dev to try and build a successor of SF Assault.
also made me want to frick the blue fox
It's rare to complete a stage on expert with both wings.
I remember I argued with my brother over this boss. Is he just floating in lava or is he like standing on the bottom. Also does he have legs? I know i doesn't look like it when he does the dolphin dive but it has a tail?
i always thought it was just a creature made out of mostly lava with some rock features.
>Is he just floating in lava or is he like standing on the bottom.
Bro I don't think stars have a bottom.
So doing a google search and Solar is actually supposed to be a molten planet? Originally called a star but was later retconned to be a planet with even patches of land.
I'd rather think of it as a star tbh, I liked the lore from the old NP guidebook about Andross introducing life on a star just to wave his dick at the people who said it was impossible. Separate continuity, but Star Fox 2 also prominently shows Lylat having two stars on the title screen and map, and binary star systems are just cool in general.
It's even cooler when you realize Pepetoon is apparently just like Tatooine. I wouldn't be surprised if it's around two suns.
Bullshit hitbox there
>It's time for us to go now.
>train level
>STEP ON THE GAS!
>I CANT STOP IT!
>EEAAAAAAHHHH!
>here come the little hyenas now.
It's a shame no one seems able to get the formula right these days. They get close a few times with the humanoid animal pilots in space but only that. At least 64 will be there for us.
its hard to emulate camp without being too obvious. Sad to say but I think it will be stuck as a product of its time.
I'm sad not even indie homies can rip it off well either, there is a game on stean called fursquadron that is heavily based on starfox but it doesn't play nearly as good. Still decent and was like $2 but still
Similar experience with Ex-Zodiac. Harkens back to the classic days of Star Fox but doesn't really give any bantz.
There's Whisker Squadron Survivor too, though it gives even less and slaps on the survivors model of leveling up to gain more stuff to get through the bullshit.
What about an arena shooter with a ship that looks just like the Arwing?
You have my curiosity. Game?
Death in Abyss. It's still being worked on. You can see the Arwing on the ship. The funny thing is that the dev tried to change the design to a more boring one and immediately got crticized for it, enough for him to bring back the old design with wings that flap as if they were alive. I don't know if it'll follow a similar formula to SF64, but it still looks like tons of fun. Really hope he releases it soon this year.

>Star fox but devil daggers and spooky
This dude is gonna make bank.
why is it called like tha manga, does it have any connections?
the vibe of star fox will never be replicated because star fox fans are only capable of taking star fox as inspiration -- they're not watching thunderbirds and shit like that.
It's kind of like how there's so many composers out there trying to replicate John Williams when they should be focusing on Holst.
That's how Yoko Kanno did Macross Plus, and it shows.
?si=_Rly0J6F3RnXz9B4
?si=nJgE0VWuNKWKI60R
Yoko Kanno is a freak of nature though, I swear she can just compose in any style she wishes masterfully
both of those are VERY Jupiter
Funnily enough, the Super Robot Wars version of Dogfight sounds like it could fit perfectly in Star Fox.
The only games that I felt were as good as Starfox 64 are the PS1 Ace Combat games. Didn't want to bring them up ITT but they scratch that itch fairly well
64 is kind of a lightning in a bottle scenario where you had the right experienced developers together at the right time with the right level of technology. I think if there was a new game that could objectively be quantified as a 10/10 improvement, people would still prefer 64 due to its presentation and the nostalgia factor.
I'd say on-rails shooters as a genre basically had their time in the spotlight and went away when it was appropriate, just like you really don't see '90s or early '00s style 3D collectathon platformers anymore outside of intentional recreations or throwbacks, their DNA was dispersed inot other genres.
The point of making a new game shouldn't be to be the better than SF64, but it should be to make a good entry to the franchise.
At this point, we just need a bit of consistency in the franchise. I feel like Metroid got it with Prime, which lasted for a while, and then Mercury Steam managed to carry the torch with Samus Returns and Dread. We need a dev to come along, grab the reigns and steer Star Fox in the right direction.
We need a campy, arcadey space shooter. We need the antithesis of Star Citizen, where it's all too obsessed with realism and you just jump into an Arwing and fly around doing cool shit, taking out duded with your buddies.
I honestly don't know why Nintendo doesn't use it as a 4 player co op type game to promote couch co op more.
It's so perfect for it, but they just never do it.
this is alright as far as starfox clones go

very comfy thread. your daddy screamed REEEEEEEEEAL good before he died!
Reminds me to the OOT thread for the 25tg anniversary last year, really comfy and awesome
what a fricking psycho line in a game appropriate for kids. like truly a dude mocking your dad's dying screams. it's fricked up
It makes you want to kill evil all the more. More games need this.
When i was a kid i thought Pigma was female because the ears looked like a bow for hair, lel
Some fun facts
>Space Dynamics are the company that invented the arwings. The Tanooki you see in training mode is the CEO of the company.
>Pigma was a scientific researcher under Andross. He was the one who twisted Pigma's mind.
>Falco's old gang was called "Free as a Bird"
>Peppy had a wife named Vivian. Sha passed away sometime before the events of Command.
>The Great Fox is a loan, they're still paying it off.
>Fox's mother lives on Pepetoon, far away from lylat. They're estranged as of now.
>Pigma persuaded Wolf to create the team.
>Bill is said to be Fox's actual best friend, not Slippy, someone he met later on.
Additionalluy, Slippy's dad was mentioned on 64's website long before Assault came out. He was an engineer before becoming head of research for the aparoids.
Wtf, Yaru de pon is in cahoots with Andross?
He's just getting two cash flows instead of the one it seems.
So he's like Miller on Peace Walker, just doing bussiness no matter with whom
That backstabbing israelite Black person
had a wife named Vivian.
Does Peppy have a cute daughter, asking for a friend. And can we see her in the next game and can she be the main protag of the next Starfox game.
Peppy has a daughter in starfox command
I thought Fox's mother was killed by Andross accidentally, while Andross was trying to kill James?
Also it's spelt Papetoon.
And Fox's mom's name is Vixy, iirc.
Not in the game canon, anon.
https://www.reddit.com/r/starfox/comments/18x0q6g/2004_nintendo_dream_interview_regarding_star_fox/
Shit, wrong link.
https://www.reddit.com/r/starfox/comments/1151lkd/nintendo_dream_republishes_some_of_their_old_star/
Ah ok I thought that stuff was canon, good to know.
Slightly spooky
Star Fox 64 remains to this day the only game that successfully translated the Shmup genre into 3D. Every other game that tried failed to capture what made stuff like Gradius or R-Type good. SNES Starfox is close but is just too primitive to pull it off. And lets not even get started on garbage like Panzer Dragoon.
I think it really boils down to control. You take away the great voice acting and the game is still good, just not nearly as memorable. You make the control suck in this game and it's garbage. They had to nail one thing, which was silky smooth controls above all else, and they succeeded

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
The Great Fox helping you out in Area 6 with its big ass laser was the coolest shit when i got there for the first time
Agreed
It made me want a level where we pilot the Great Fox through a fleet of capitol ships or bosses and take them all down
USE THE BOOST TO GET THROUGH
I can't even remember the last time a "THE END" screen on a game made me feel good.
That ending screen on the not-true route(s) with Andross fading in hits just right. Makes the true end feel lacking though, though maybe that's the point after defeating The Brain to Rule Lylat.
The true ending isn't canon if the other games are to go by, however my headcanon is because the other games are shit, the true ending is my canon and Andross is permakilled here.
The *suddenly andross* fight in adventure was so shit lol
>The true ending isn't canon if the other games are to go by
Yes it is. He died in 64, then a canon Japanese manga set between 64 and Adventures involved him being cloned by a traitorous Cornerian. Fox blows the clone up with a Landmaster, but I guess it's supposed to be presumed that it survived somehow to appear in Adventures. Andross himself never appeared after that, though there's some sort of AI hologram of him involved in one route in Command.
>it survived somehow to appear in Adventures
Wasn't he a freaky ghost and already dead by that point anyway? That's why he absorbed the Krazoa Spirits, to gain their power? Am I just filling in the blanks of a shit narrative by myself? It's been literally two decades.
Andross in Adventures somehow got knowledge of the Krazoa and used them to sustain his brainghost and eventually fully resurrect himself.
It was dumb but whatever.
>just filling in the blanks of a shit narrative by myself
Yep, it's that one. The cutscene where Krystal gets captured also implies that she recognizes him from somewhere, leading to theories that Andross was the one who blew up her planet, but none of Rare's lore involving her backstory made it into the Japanese translation, so it wasn't a plot point that was elaborated on in future Japanese-developed titles.
So why was Andross a giant brain?
He worked out at the library
Heh
Solar is fun, neat gimmick.
>Running as the sun sets
>The rousing music

One of the times I recall an ending in a video game being pure kino
>that israelite Andross and his vicious Black person mercenaries are dead
Yep, it's time to celebrate.
IF I'M GOING DOWN I'M TAKING YOU WITH ME!
Kino
Fox's would-be death scream was so loud, piercing, and real. That final sequence was wild.
Andrew's scream when you shoot him down in Venom is also really good
Frick this thread was great, I didn't need such emotions now.
>thread theme
Long before I got the true ending, I used to shoot all my teammates in Corneria then crash to hear him do that scream.
It's so fricking guttural and raw that I have a recurring SF64-themed nightmare where he dies screams like that often and I feel the physical pain of the Arwing getting crumpled.
ITS TIME TO TRY OUR NEW WEAPON!
This game had a shockingly kino underwater section for N64 standards, I'm surprised it's not reminesced on more often.
I disagree. The boss was kinda cool but the rest of Aquas is just slow and annoying. The framerate drops if you cause too many explosions, the enemies hit like a truck, and you can't see anything until it's right up on you. It's not even that bad and a decent change of pace, there are just so many other good missions it gets clowned on
It's visually very cool but not much fun to control.
Where was he running?
Golem-mech was trying to lure you further into the temple to destroy you with the pillars it was forcing out from the bottom and sides of the walls of the temple.
The world's toughest competition in town.
The party's just begun!

what is the consensus on Assault
>consensus
It’s good moments are really good, but people tend to hate the foot sections.
Personally, I like it. If 64 is a 9/10, Assault is a high 7/10.
Good game, didn't have a problem with the on-foot stuff, just would've liked it to be longer and have 64's branching paths.
The multiplayer was pretty good
Too linear, and you can tell they were strapped for content the way the on foot segments were set up. But conceptually, it was solid, and they could have had something pretty cool if they didn't throw out everything moving forward.
Gorgeous orchestrated soundtrack, both remixes and originals (Aparoid Queen 2 my beloved), I think the voices are better fits (Slippy doesn't sound obnoxious, even when he's actually being obnoxious).
Game could serve to have more rail segments and be longer in general. Could've been excellet, would love to get another game in its style instead of 64 loveletter #823.
Wolf has a great voice in assault. It’s e actually the same guy who voices Engineer in TF2.
huh and peppy is the VA of Soldier in TF2. interesting
I love this line
speaking of star wolf, what do you guys think of Panther?
He’s good. I don’t like how he has a higher bounty than Leon does in command, though.
I like him, he seems more like a actual bounty hunter than anyone else, with interests outside of combat. Rounds out Assault's trio.
>Wolf, the bad-boy rebel, who doesn't take orders from anyone.
>Leon, the cold-blooded psycho that seems to enjoy killing.
>Panther, the suave, arrogant rogue who fights one day, then goes to his favorite cafe in Corneria to pick up chicks
Bounty hunters = good (Star Fox)
Mercenaries = bad (Star Wolf)
I think it's the fantasy of having the best tech and coolest fights, without being shackled to possibly corrupt governing powers. Free to pick their jobs and how they do them, not needing to follow orders, and capable of fighting war criminals without being seen as traitors.
Soldiers spend 8 hours a day standing guard over a piece of dirt. Or whatever their superiors ask. Bounty hunters can do whatever, whenever.
Again, it's a fantasy. If it's not fun, why bother?
>Bounty hunters = good (Star Fox)
>Mercenaries = bad (Star Wolf)
They need to stop having Bounty Hunter good, Mercs bad since it doesn't make sense. They are just two different occupations and should just be made into pure rivals and not "Good vs Bad".
The (fictional) ideal of the Bounty Hunter is that they work purely on the side of fair law and order.
Mercenaries merely work for the highest bidder.
An overall pretty good game. Hampered by some repetitive gameplay bits (kill x stationary things) and missing some more modern features, but a lot of fun.
Multiplayer was a blast but upping it to 16 players would have elevated it so fricking much.
Honestly, I think that a reimagining of the multiplayer could be a really fun game.
One thing that people underrate Star Fox in general with, is the music and SFAs's music is criminally underrated. It slaps hard.
Also annoying that they didn't use dual stick control scheme as the default. It's an option, but morons who couldn't figure out options menus never saw it and didn't switch to it.
I love this game.
UNCLE ANDROOOOOSS
Slippy and Peppy if they Conker.
The world needs more 3D rail shooters. Such an underexplored genre.
You vill play ze ARPG with BLM and Israeli overtones, and you vill like it.
You're becoming more like your father
>Only member that was with your father
>Throughout the game shouts "Never give up! Trust your instincts!"
>Reach the end of the game
>Fox's father's ghost appears to guide him out of Andross' lair
>Encourages Fox by also saying "Never give up. Trust your instincts"
>You realize here at the end of the game that Peppy probably picked up the phrase from James himself
Unironic kino. All Nintendo companies were on super drugs back in the N64 days.
>When Peppy says it, he sounds desperate/frightened, like "I know we're kinda fricked but this is our best shot" 99% sure he delivers the line if you get very low health
>Ghost dad's delivery is entirely calm and reassuring. It's like, "you got this kid".
You've become so strong, Fox
You may be right. It's either used then or when you're in really fricked up fire-heavy situations.

>INcoming enemy from the rear!
>DROP altitude
Goddamn how is every single quote so memorable?
It's the delivery and the voices delivering them. SF64's dialogue is damn near perfect.
the acting is very hammy
I think this and Half-Life 1 have the highest ratio of dialogue to memes.
I feel like Half Life 1's dialogue being a meme was something that only came around recently, has it been meme material for that long?
I remember people quoting the "They're waiting for you, Gordon. In the test chamberrrrr." line back in the day because it was goofy, but that's about it.
STAHP
No, that's been memorable since release. The scientists alone were meme machines.
Semi-related, I used to recite the entire Resident Evil 4 from beginning to end, RE4Remake wishes it had such memorable and quotable dialogue.
RE4R tries to be campy at times but it feels so forced. RE4 is just master class camp from beginning to end and it doesn't even feel like it's trying. So good.
deus ex
That's high, but it also has a LOT of dialogue, Star Fox and Half-Life 1 are a lot more limited in dialogue so it's notable that basically every line in both of them is quotable
You're just trying to impress me.
Time to get moving!
Like others have said; really memorable and campy, yet not stupid, dialogue. Another factor is that the game encourages replay of the levels over and over (both with alternate paths and score goals), and with the short length of the game you end up hearing the lines over and over. Like I could probably recite the entirety of Cornerius since I replayed it so many times over the years
Perfectly executed camp-ness. It felt fun, the lines were a little ridiculous and cheesy, but fitted perfectly with the tone of the game.
I don't know why but I love asymmetrical ships
Especially if they have loads of missiles
>used to play Star Fox on SNES

why'd they make the bad guys apes
Dogs and monkeys are common enemies in Japanese culture.
Because they're the closest thing to humans in a furry world
The real monster was man, anon
Really israeli looking apes.
Neanderthals, if you will.
that reminds me...
It's a planet of the apes reference
It's a "nature vs (mad) science" theme
Andross is a mad scientist, exiled for doing evil shit. Among other things he later fricked up Aquas and used Zoness as a dump for toxic waste THIS is Zoness? What a dump!
Apes are attributed to intelligence, and the only animals RL with hands, and use tools. Andross attacks you directly with his hands and brain.
>Apes are attributed to intelligence, and the only animals RL with hands, and use tools.
Crows and octopi have both been known to use tools.
>Apes are attributed to intelligence, and the only animals RL with hands, and use tools. Andross attacks you directly with his hands and brain.
You know, I never thought of it that way. This might be one of the rare times that a "head and hands" giant boss is thematically appropriate.
They use tools, but they don't have hands.
Are you really gonna listen to that MONKEY
mfw Area 6
These guys are crazy!
Dang! DEPLOY IT NOW!
To me this kind of implies that they were afraid to sic the giant cloaking tentacle disk of death and only did so as a last resort. I still love this boss fight, much better than star wolf in the next stage
According to the lore Gorgon was the most advanced weapon Andross had created at that point, and it made a lot of his troops nervous with the firepower it had. The mega-laser can pierce the crust of a planet.
>going through the literal front door of Venom filled to the brim with Andross' entire armada
>an assault of such massive scale that even Great Fox joins the fight
>leaving a trail of destruction as the enemy desperately tries to stop you
>FIRE! FIRE! DON'T LET THEM THROUGH!
>the music
>the fricking music
>THEY'RE THROUGH THE SECOND LINE!

The hype of blasting through the center of Venom's defenses was certainly one of the high points of the game, the sort of thing that would only be surpassed in hype and context by Ace Combat games, many years later.

Disappointed but not surprised.
They're fricking for sure, everyone knows that. Only question is whether they're gay or if they're bi and would be down to DT you.
Depends if the show gives them a billion piercings and some awful dye job and lesbo haircut.
If they're shown as lesbians, but like your pic, all good.
Reminder that Falco was aware of real world israeli duplicity when he called you Eistein and accused you of traitorously shooting him.

Game about Peppy getting closure over James' death when?
Andross has ordered us to take you down
Why did Leons voice have an extra filter or something on it? His lines were always my favorite, tonality wise.
I dunno why but there's something about Krystal that pisses me off
She's the romantic interest no one asked for.
I mean to be fair, Fox having a lover was something that was already a thing prior to Adventures in the old NP comics as shown by
A lot of the older SF1 ancillary material even mentioned Fox having a soft spot for the ladies, so it definitely feels like something they had on their mind since the beginning. See for yourself here: https://www.reddit.com/r/starfox/comments/11ryguy/a_deep_dive_into_the_history_of_planet_papetoon/
>politically
omg Star Fox is political!!!
It's dogmatic and cynical
lel
Probably because she isn't Nintendo's creation.
Do you ship Fox and Wolf, by any chance?
I don't hate or like her but she just stands out way too much amongst the Star Fox cast. She feels a little like an OC someone put into the series instead of an actual character.
Like I said though, I don't really mind her.
It's because she was made for a game that isn't her own. Imamura did his best to make her feel like a Star Fox character, but it wasn't enough. Still feels British, not Japanese at all.
>Shipped the game into starfox and then they shipped the main character of the shipped game into a more shippable character
>all out of envy
>was originally a bigger part of an original story before that became part of an established IP where she's shoved in a crystal for 95% of the story and Fox just lusts over her
>exists in assault to replace Peppy and generally have nothing to add to anything (fricking SLIPPY is a more substantial character)
>is the main focal point of a massive splitting soap-opera drama bullshit that infects most of command's plot like a cancer
I've jerked off to her plenty of times but I'm pretty glad she's been gone for nearly 2 decades.
It's ironically no one but Nintendo's own fault she even mutated into a Star Fox character.
https://www.vgfacts.com/game/starfoxadventures/trivia-17048/
https://www.vgfacts.com/game/starfoxassault/trivia-18112/
TLDR: Rare themselves were originally just gonna scrap entirely in the transition from DP to SFA, it was Nintendo specifically Miyamoto and Imamura that wanted to keep her in at all, all because they wanted a sexy woman in Star Fox, and the latter helped redesign her inspired by Vampirella. It was also their call to keep her around in Assault (though the dev team had a hard time deciding if she was a team mommy or a big sister type)
So in a perverted sort of way, SFA Krystal is effectively Nintendo's own invention.
>it was Nintendo specifically Miyamoto and Imamura that wanted to keep her in at all, all because they wanted a sexy woman in Star Fox
Katt already existed.
I want to tell him thanks. They helped make life even better.
>You will die, just like your father!
God I always wanted a Star Fox game where you could upgrade your ship and selectively choose which missions you took. You could be the unapologetic good guy and get crappy pay, or you could be a real merc and take less than honorable jobs. The ending would be determined by who you help and who you frick over.
>An actual bounty hunting game starring Starfox as actual mercs.
10/10 idea anon, that's why it'll never happen. Nintendo don't know what bounty hunters are.
Nintendo seems to love the mercenary/bounty hunter trope, because it's a way to have "tough guy" characters (Star Fox, Samus, Captain Falcon, etc.) without having them be evil-aligned, but never wants to touch the actual business side of those trades. I'd love to see a game like you describe, where there's no clear danger to the galaxy at the outset so you're just taking odd jobs to keep the engines running.
If you like robots and aren't afraid of a little sim jank, I would encourage you to check out MechWarrior 2 Mercenaries and its more accessible but less articulate sequel MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries. You actually get to live the merc life.
Yeah, they're all defined as not being affiliated with any military force, but still only taking jobs that help others. Very interesting take on bounty hunters.
For bounty hunters, it makes a little sense, since they tend to be vigilantes or otherwise on the side of justice. But mercs have no such excuse. Most will happily switch sides in the middle of a battle if the other side writes a bigger check quickly enough. For the Star Fox team, being mercenaries is probably just a way for them to dodge all the red tape that comes with official affiliations while following their personal motives.
On this topic, I think it was Retro Studios actually pitched bounty hunting as a potential gameplay feature of Metroid Prime 3 (I think), but when they pitched it to Nintendo, the Nintendo reps were confused and talked amongst themselves for a while. When the translation came back, they essentially said that hunting down criminals for a reward wasn't something they pictured Samus doing and apparently calling Samus a "bounty hunter" was more of just a cool title and never meant anything more than just being a title to Nintendo.
I believe that they'd have similar issues with Star Fox being mercenaries actually being a gameplay feature if there was a possibility of bad karma type bounties or contracts.
I think either a localiser or someone at Nintendo picked "team of mercenaries" out as just some label for the team so they operate independently, but are still the good guys.
I legit think that earning money by being mercs, even if you can only fight bad guys and there's no morality system, would be a cool system for a fresher take on Star Fox.
I think we need a bit more open-ness to the games so it's not just a 1 hour gauntlet like SF64, but a bit more of a space opera campaign.
Unironically Starlink is one of the best starfox games in a long time and that makes me sad.
In Japan, they're all contract workers, hired to do something no one else can.
Isn't that basically just a mercenary?
YES!!! I want to make this game
My dream game uses this as a backbone
>Open universe, fly around Lylat or jump around with jumpgates with the Great Fox
>Each planet has some missions and the story takes you through Lylat
>Side missions of rescuing people, taking out pirates, looting wrecks, etc.
>You're mercenaries, so you earn money for helping people out
>Money used to upgrade Arwings, landmasters, other new vehicles and on-foot guns
>Missions still use gimmicks of each planet, like SF64's planets
>Co op allows your buddies to jump into team mates shoes, allowing different roles for each team member
>Multiplayer a bigger focus, bigger scale matches with lots of game modes
>furry character creator for your mp toon
>armour earnable through playing the multiplayer or game
I have more stuff, but it's late and I've got work tomorrow
the progression reminds me a little to Phantom Pain, with you having a bunch of mission with some of them advancing the story. I would like to see it happen
MY EMPEROR
I'VE FAILED YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
A huge factor to SF64 that I think is overlooked is the music direction. It's not just that the songs are absolute bangers, they direct the tone of the on-rails segments.
Since the music pauses when the game pauses, every moment is designed with a specific piece to compliment it. The easiest example is how it ebbs and calms down right when you hit a checkpoint. Or, in Aquas, when you get into the larger, more fantastic parts of the level the music will swell.
And, while in rail sections, the boost/brakes don't actually speed/slow you, they temporarily move you across the Z-axis. When escaping hard Venom you're in all-range mode
It's unironically cinematic, and really impressive. I struggle to think of any (non-rhythm) games that do the same thing.
Not to mention You can't beat me, I've got a better ship!
The music bombastically swelling during Zoness whenever you start flying into Venomian troops is a highlight of the stage.
People give autoscrollers a hard time, but really, they're one of the best ways to stage gameplay cinematically, as long as the player still has full control of their movement otherwise. Rocket Knight Adventures is another game that does that sort of thing really well.
>People give autoscrollers a hard time
Do they? I've only ever heard this out of speedtrooners.
God this game's OST is amazing. It has what's still my favorite boss theme ever composed.
Can you explain how the boost/slow works? That sounds like a genius work around but I'm too stupid to actually visualize it. Like, it temporarily moves you forward, but because of the slowdown/normal speed after boosting/breaking you end up at the same point on the "timeline" you would have if you had never actually used either?
Pretty much. It's like a rubber band glued to a conveyor belt. You can pull it backwards (brake) or forwards (boost) but once that force is removed it'll snap back to the same point on the conveyor.
Makes sense to me.
Andross won't have his way with me
I'd like a Star Fox game written by 90's to 2010's Suda51. Would be kino.
There's rumors Illumination is going to be doing a Star Fox film.
How do you guys feel about that?
I don't have the faith they'll land the same vibe I'd want them to replicate (straight-faced camp without a hint of irony). Plus not sure how they'd handle a plot that's mostly space dogfights.
Easy, they make an adaptation of Command.
Visually? No worries. Mario looked great, and I'm sure Nintendo will be at their throats to keep them from goofing anything.
Plot wise? Eh.... I don't know how well a story about warring through stars can do well in the current, overly sanitized market. You can't make a Star Fox movie without dogfights and shooting people down.
If they go more Top Gun, then they might have something. People forget on ground and physical fights are something Star Fox can do.
>Mario, skip Zelda, Star Fox
Uh, okay.
We are getting a Zelda film, but it isn't being done by Illumination.
>We are getting a Zelda film, but it isn't being done by Illumination.
>isn't being done by Illumination
thank FRICK for that.
The potential is absolutely there, just comes down to who's making it.
Part 3 frickin WHEN
this had no right to be as KINO as it was
This would've been a late-night TV GOAT if it was on Adult swim or something, it's so seamlessly both cozy and gritty
He said 4 years
Wait another 7 years.
as the kiddies say today, let him cook. Episode 2 was a materpiece and from the previews, episode 3 is shaping up quite good
It's so perfect, I love it. He nails the campiness and 80's cartoon feel that works so perfectly for Star Fox.
kino.
Firstly those are untrue because lol of course they're going to do Zelda before Star Fox. They'll do fricking Metroid before Star Fox. Moreover, even if it were true, I'd be disappointed. The only person who should be given reign over Star Fox in a theatrical or televised format should be Matthew Gafford.
Hire Matt Gafford as director and i'm a 100% on board
I hate Illumination because basically all of their work has been absolute shit low effort copies of Pixar shit, or insufferable garbage like minions, but I was pleasantly surprised at how competent the Mario movie was.
I would love them to make a Star Fox movie and I unironically think Star Fox is possibly the most approachable franchise to make a movie of. The characters have personality, the universe is defined, there's clear bad guys which you can do fun stuff with, there's plenty of unknown space where you can do basically whatever you want and the canon is fragmented to hell, so the chances of upsetting someone because it doesn't fit the games is slim to nil.
Also if we got a popular Star Fox game, it could likely kick Nintendo into making a new game or at least funding some other dev to make it.
Oh and the music from Star Fox is so epic, a movie could use that to really shine, and for Star Fox Zero, we got the anime-esque The Battle Begins shorts, which everyone agrees were great.
It's ideal for a movie. Only thing is that Star Fox is a niche franchise at this point.
I would prefer an animated series, like a Swat Kats or Battlestar Galactica.
tried the 60 fps star fox mod the other day. Damn this game is crude. It's so difficult to play, there's no aim so you don't know what you're shooting at, and it's kind of difficult to see what some things are.
The music is really banger though

As someone who's played the original, the 60fps makes EVERYTHING so much more coherent what are you smoking anon.
there is no way to tell where you aim
I've been playing video games since I was 3 so I just intuit it instinctually at this point, but you can also just rapid fire and lead your hitting shots based on where your missed shots went.
yeah well, I didn't play it as a kid, so it's not that great. N64 version did it better
still think the music is great
I didn't play it as a kid either
still feels super clunky
I had the game as a kid and I never found out until recently that other Star Fox team members just fricking die if they get shot down in the original.
why are their names based on their race? either the first name like fox, or last like hare. why is it inconsistent, like james mccloud doesn't have fox in his name.

Andross's enemy is MY enemy!
If I have one hope to be gleaned from Metroid Dread's success is that maybe Nintendo takes the fricking hint that maybe Star Fox and F-Zero can just have a normal fricking sequel.
If all you took from Dead was sales numbers = good product than Star Fox and F-Zero should stay dead.
Oh my god I used than instead of then I never thought this day would come. Oh my god I even misspelled Dread brb killing myself
I mean it was received well by the audience at large, regardless if you liked it or not.
I liked Dread a lot. Played through Dread four or five times and I have an unfinished Dread difficulty playthrough. I didn't love it. It's the first Metroid I didn't love (never played Other M). I don't need a sequel to franchises "just because we can", and if you disagree with that then that's a shame because every day it feels like people with standards get lesser in number.
If you want a radical evolution for a new game that s fine, but after their last "radical" idea I sure hope you arent asking for a sequel at all in that case.
>If you want a radical evolution for a new game
I didn't say that at all. Metroid Prime 2 is not a radical evolution of Metroid Prime. Metroid Zero Mission is not a radical evolution of Metroid Fusion. These are both great games I love. Metroid Dread isn't even a radical evolution of Samus Returns, it's a wonderful evolution of that game. Too bad it has all the stupid shit in there. Anyway this is a Star Fox thread, my point was we shouldn't want sequels just to want them. Matt Gafford didn't make A Fox In Space just cause, he made it out of love.
I'll be frank, I'm not even looking for perfection. I, too, liked Dread but didn't love it. I'd take a slightly imperfect Starfox, but it should be a $40 game with about as much length as SF64. There's a big dearth of replayable but short games because the market is focused on GaaS and lifestyle games.
That's the real reason it will never happen. Metroid Dread even happening is crazy to me. It's, at its core, a straight old video game. A Starfox game would hopefully fall under the same category but it doesn't even have the star power that Metroid does. If they gave us a "good enough" Starfox game I'd be happy enough at this point.
You seem reasonable anon. I'll toast you a beer tonight.
>made by western studio (or non-nintendo company)
>most well received game in years
You ever think about how this happened with Metroid, Donkey Kong, and F-Zero? and how all of these franchises are more popular in the west?
Punch out and Luigi Mansion 2 and 3 are made by westeners too and people loved those games. I think they work well because of how much nintendo protects their IP so they aren't allowed to go full moron like other devs do

Would you recommend playing the Star Fox 64 remake on the 3DS? Or is the base N64 game still playable these days?
They're both good, but 64 maintains better voice acting, because the remake had all the lines rerecorded for some reason, rather than just using the uncompressed recordings from the original.
Anon, we are in your debt...I would be honored to have you as part of the Cornerian Army.
I was born the year this game came out, but I'd never played it until I think 2005. We were on a family trip down to Texas and the hotel we stayed at had this weird console where you paid 20 bucks to play some pre-loaded N64 games. I found Star Fox 64 on there and for the rest of the trip I was playing it any time we were in the room. As soon as we got home I saved up some cash and got my parents to buy the game off of ebay. It sure beat playing Nascar '99 over and over. Thanks for the memories frens, sometimes Ganker is alright.
$20 back then is too overpriced for that
Google says it was actually $6.95 per hour of play, so I just remembered it completely wrong unless the hotel owners could change the time limits.
Does this count?
So can we all agree Solar was the worst level? Sector Z close second
>UNCLE ADOLF!!!!!!!!
who would have though an on-rails game like this could be so memorable and so much fun
I prefer the SNES music. 16-bitters rise up.
anons i remember one the multiplayer maps having snow on it but im not sure if im crazy or not i want to say it was on corneria but im not sure
I like Star Fox Adventures.
On a technical level, adventure is marvelous, how did Rare manage to get a game that looks that good at 60fps on the cube, i'll never know
Me too anon. Zelda-likes are fun. It's not the best game, but it was a technical achievement for its time, it played pretty well and was generally pretty fun.
I also didn't have a 64, so this and SF Assault were my main introductions to the franchise and then I emulated 64 and it was the shit.
Ace Combat? More like Ass wienerbat.
Me wienerbat in Krystal's ass eheheheheheheheheheheh
Is Falco gay? Why else wouldn't he want this beautiful pink pussy?
Damn, Peppy straight to the point
so what happened to that event horizon thing? was that suppossed to be a game?
Still being worked on afaik, dev makes video updates semi-frequently. Yes it's a game, it's basically a Freespace 2 mod, there are playable demos.
He's still working on it, right in the middle of the Sauria campaign. Right now he's been working on Thorntail Hollow: https://twitter.com/undyingnephalim/status/1784051117883904157
While it's impressive what he's been able to do with the Freespace 2 engine a lot of the character models fall into the uncanny valley outside of the wienerpit. They look better than their earlier models from several years ago, but there's still something off-putting about them.
Yeah as much as I'm a fan of what they're doing, I think the furry mass effect style of Star Fox is a tough ask, because it lives and dies by the writing and writing a campy fun story is hard, writing a dead-serious story and fitting it into the star fox universe is not going to be an easy one.
Nintendo needs to hire Matt as the starfox consultant or to write
>A Fox in Space tumblr got nuked, destroying years of concept and fan art
Fricking why
Artists are all drama queens. If you love something from an artist, save it immediately. No telling when they'll just get butthurt and pull al l their stuff.
Seriously, why
Prolly didn't want twitter folks seeing some of his old shit like
good luck
>want to get all the medals in Expert
>pic related is too iconic for me have changed
i need to get one in Solar, there are't many enemies there
being a practicing zoo is natural
To what company should nintendo outsource the next starfox game this time, bros?
very sick at the moment and this thread cheered me right up, you frickers are alright sometimes
>A Star Fox thread that reaches the bump limit and doesn't get nuked, devolve into gay furry porn, or obsessive Krystal posting
This was a rare treat. Hopefully we can do this again sometime without having to go to /trash/.
we had to behave for the 27th anniversary! Here's hoping the next 27 are going to be better
>Here's hoping the next 27 are going to be better
We can only hope. I'm a believer that the franchise can still find its footing again, but it'll take Miyamoto and the rest of Nintendo's old guard either retiring or dying and new leadership stepping in that actually has a long-term plan for it beyond "wheel Fox out of cold storage when we have a hardware gimmick we want to promote."
i think Next Level Games could make a good starfox games, they have been a solid dev reviving forgotten nintendo titles like Punch out and Luigi's Mansion
Hell, i think Ubisoft could make a killer Starfox game as long as nintendo tard wrangles them and keeps them at a short leash, they seem very respectful of Nintendo's legacy
Starfox is a franchise that has hidden potential to do more, but still had been held back by awkward gimmicks, failed experiments and redoing the same story again. I still have faith that they could go back to it in a future and give us something that could be a true step forward
Fire the gays.
>Thread ending
>gay starts posting his Fox in Space homosexual shit
Every time.
They are the ones who actually gives a shit about this franchise nowadays, let them in
Lmfao no. Frick off gay. Gives a frick about the franchise for all the wrong reasons: To promote their whack ass fetish. 99% of the thread was perfectly fine about the games and series until you tried to sneak in.
A+ thread on Ganker that's actually about video games. Thanks lads
You're becoming more like your father
