I think the gameplay in star rail is very fun. Though I would like it if they changed it so we didn't have to see a cutscene for every ultimate. Maybe they'll change that in the future.
Give it a shot if you never made it very far into the game.
it's 3 seconds on an ability you cast every 3 turns, and if you've tuned your team correctly, like 6-9 seconds per 3 turns since you've coordinated burst windows with multiple ults.

I doubt they will, but I would love an option to turn it off yeah. It's even more annoying in Genshin since you're actively playing it. I don't want to have the camera zoom on their face whenever I use an ability, using ults with four star characters feels so much better for that reason
I don't mind, but after Persona 5 it just feels incredibly anemic to me. Even compared to other JRPGs as well, having to get a new character fof new abilities instead of characters developing at least a couple more over time, or even the lack of just a Defend command just bother me. I like the game in spite of its combat but the fact that I often just put it on auto because of thos leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
They're both very different games but this game removes the fluff and just gives you a character that's good at something specific and you build teams around those gimmicks.

In my opinion Genshin and Star Rail have opposite issues. Former has shitton of non-battle content (mostly exploration) but sorely lacks in proper endgame stuff aside from a single bi-weekly game mode and the rest of it is casual stuff that can be cleared with any party comp. Star Rail meanwhile is chock full of nothing but different battle modes with different gimmicks, and team building autism is enforced since you can't stun enemies without proper elements, but it doesn't really have anything else going for it.

I like to think that Penacony found a gateway to heaven but if you go too far into heaven you die. So they found a way to freeze time between heaven and space through the Harmony of water.

I don't like Firefly, she seems too boring and her design clashes with her personality on top of feeling too forced. She has the frail little girl trope down to a T but she's using the maid model and has big breasts so there's nothing little about her.

I personally do not give a shit about clearing stage 12 of MoC or getting 3 stars on the last stage of PF. I do not see it being an issue for a long time to get that with a fully built Kafka/BS team.

The not-China parts of Mihoyo games are always the blandest. I think that it might be because they're so limited in what they can say. They can't have tyrant governors or a bunch of shifty morally grey characters.
The best not-China in videogames is Jade Empire's setting, and that had a completely corrupt government that took out a religious faction of good guys and complex characters that weren't all complete white hats.
Well at least you can just rush through it now, not like they have to sit and wait months for the china wanking to end. Penacony is great so far, though I think they messed up with how time consuming the mini games and pinball traversals are. Love the atmosphere and music though.
I think one general problem now is balancing encounters. Belobog was well tuned, or I guess it was more about the lower world levels. It was interesting to see new enemies and I struggled with some of the hard encounters guarding chests, but now everything just blows immediately. I have no idea what the new enemies do.
I'm sure these enemies are going to be a real pain in future content. I don't know what that dinosaur chef actually does but I'm honestly a little scared. Just Sam and the death dragon are scary alone.

Because the game spent 7 years on Kiana’s story. Even more when you realize Mihoyo’s previous games both starred Kiana too. So suddenly not having Kiana, Mei or Bronya around and saying it was going to be a totally new cast was a surefire way for players to lose interest before even trying it.
For better or worse, in CN Honkai is pretty much linked with being Kiana’s story.

My biggest problem with HSR right now is it just doesn't have very good writing i.e. they build up characters for literally 1-2 hours and kill them and expect you to be sad but it doesn't hit at all and they rush so much shit. Genshin has terrible pacing and literally hours of useless bloated shit that kills any feeling for the story like 4.1 meandering around that shitty prison for 3 hours.

I know Paimon and her pretty much extending any scene is one of those reasons. Star Rail has a better cast of characters and the moment to moment writing is a lot better. Paimon makes every single conversation in the game extremely predictable and flow the same. A good comparison would be the events. Star Rail's event is a fun, silly little event about a little cartoon detective and soda manufacturers starting a revolt. It's short, it doesn't outstay its welcome but still pretty amusing. Meanwhile Genshin's event is just a horrific slog of every character you met suddenly declare the new guy is so kind and respectful despite never having met him before, with said new guy suddenly knowing everyone down to even knowing that Xianyun is an adeptus without any reason for that whatsover. Then you get to spend three whole quests with everyone deciding they want to help with his family drama because he's just so kind and respectful and it's not until the final part do you actually get to enjoy anything remotely resembling Lantern Rite.

Actually just had a buddy quit Genshin over it because he doesn't have as much time to play anymore and by the third hour he wasn't even done with the third quest in the event series and was bored to death. Something about Genshin is delivered very stoically and dull, whereas HSR is much more playful. The cat event was hilarious and the scooby doo social media thing was genius in 1.5.
He's just playing star rail at this point since it respects your time more and is more entertaining in a short burst

The funny thing it kind of sounds like GI took it to heart that they should involve playable characters more in quests instead of some random NPC, but then it sounds like they completely misfired with it. I think one of the early shockers for me was doing a side quest at launch in HSR and then suddenly Pela just became part of the side quest.

Actually just had a buddy quit Genshin over it because he doesn't have as much time to play anymore and by the third hour he wasn't even done with the third quest in the event series and was bored to death. Something about Genshin is delivered very stoically and dull, whereas HSR is much more playful. The cat event was hilarious and the scooby doo social media thing was genius in 1.5.
He's just playing star rail at this point since it respects your time more and is more entertaining in a short burst

The side events are fun but it was so tedious. It had overstayed its welcome and became boring as it just went on and on and on.
The new cast is only half the problem. The other half is the new stigmata system where the same limited currency used to upgrade stigs are also used to buy them. It's not enough and the fans really let Mihoyo how much they hated it.

The thing is what people don't realize about those monthly gacha revenue charts is that the only revenue included is what was sold through Apple story and Google Store. Any game that has a PC client is being under reported because the guy making the chart doesn't have access to that data. Games like HSR, Genshin, Nikke, while already being near top of the chart, are probably even further ahead.

I have no idea why I can handle the words in Star Rail, aside from SU because frick that shit, but words in Genshin just kill all my motivation in that game. I know Paimon and her pretty much extending any scene is one of those reasons. I think another reason may be because TB feels more involved while Tabihito feels like they keep their distance while Paimon keeps fricking talking.
Funny thing is HSR actually doesn't let you skip story dialogue until the voice over is pretty much done... sometimes, it's kind of inconsistent.

It's because of the characters animations. They FIRST have to play out, you can't skip the dialogue until they're done and depending on how early they happen through the dialogue it's either an instant skip or not even skippable until the very hand.
This problem got bigger with Penacony tho, I feel like, going through the story I'm a fast reader and it almost reminded me of playing Genshin's story with the clunky as hell skipping through the cutscene. Never felt like this before. But Penacony characters had tons of animations through dialogues compared to before, so it makes sense. At least the story is good and the NPC sidequest dialogue is still an instant super fast skip like before even though Penacony sidequests were pretty good

The writer of the current Penacony arc is the dude who managed to get the HI3's fanbase to accept a new girl in a leading role, so it's obvious the guy has some idea how to take control of an audience.
I'm willing to bet the reason he never wrote for Genshin is either because executive mandates would have forced him to make the story worse, or HI3 devs just have standards and refuse to work on what is internally called the money piglet.
Elysia-dev is a rather divisive writer. Those that love Elysia and FC will no doubt sing praises about him, but those that hate how the FC had completely taken all the spotlight and blames him for all the bad changes that happens afterward.
HSR is decently generous with what they give out. They kind of embraced the game being a side game that people come back to at the start of the patch, and then take it easy until the next patch.

CN Nirvana leaderboard had people from a guild that's known for never trying in end-game content topping the charts, which basically means all the whales had left the game. You also have the whole 2800 crystal incident and Hoyo issuing an official statement. Part 2 being a disaster is very much real.
Probably because the current banner still is just doing OK. Still good numbers but if they can't beat Seele's original banner numbers, that means the fanbase hasn't grown, which is kinda bad for a relatively new gacha game.
I mean there's no way they're hitting Seele numbers ever again. They got even Genshin gays to try it out then and a lot of them don't like turn based. It's probably going to hover between 15-25 million a banner which is still very good for a gacha game. It also has way more competition than Genshin. The game clearly doesn't have as much dev time put into it either so they're just banking a ton of cash. As long as they can just keep the current playerbase engaged, it's fine.
They might get a boost with the top up reset from the Dolphins, but I don't think the game is doing badly at all since it is usually still top 5 on revenue charts, and that is with the revenue from the PC client missing.
I know, those are still good numbers but with no growth, a gacha game will just slowly dwindle away. You want to grow and expand, not be complacent and milk your current fanbase to death.

Banner sales are meaningless. At least half of all sales are people buying battlepasses and monthly cards which don't line up with a specific character. I can buy a BP or card now and save the jades for months if I wanted.

I think a large part of it is because the TB doesn't have a stand-in to speak for them like Paimon does for Adventurer. TB also seems to becoming more and more of their own character since they've been speaking more and vocalizing their thoughts more with every patch.
What I don't get about Paimon is she isn't just a stand in. She has to do these fricking marvel quips with an exclamation mark everytime and talk about herself in the first person. "Oooooh, Paimon loves Black folk!" Stelle is just an amazing murder hobo

it's 3 seconds on an ability you cast every 3 turns, and if you've tuned your team correctly, like 6-9 seconds per 3 turns since you've coordinated burst windows with multiple ults.
each individual cast is short, but it gets tedious to watch the 500th time it happens in an hour

I doubt they will, but I would love an option to turn it off yeah. It's even more annoying in Genshin since you're actively playing it. I don't want to have the camera zoom on their face whenever I use an ability, using ults with four star characters feels so much better for that reason
I don't mind, but after Persona 5 it just feels incredibly anemic to me. Even compared to other JRPGs as well, having to get a new character fof new abilities instead of characters developing at least a couple more over time, or even the lack of just a Defend command just bother me. I like the game in spite of its combat but the fact that I often just put it on auto because of thos leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
They're both very different games but this game removes the fluff and just gives you a character that's good at something specific and you build teams around those gimmicks.

In my opinion Genshin and Star Rail have opposite issues. Former has shitton of non-battle content (mostly exploration) but sorely lacks in proper endgame stuff aside from a single bi-weekly game mode and the rest of it is casual stuff that can be cleared with any party comp. Star Rail meanwhile is chock full of nothing but different battle modes with different gimmicks, and team building autism is enforced since you can't stun enemies without proper elements, but it doesn't really have anything else going for it.

I really don't know why people who have only played Genshin think that 99% of other gacha isn't like this. Gachas are virtual brothels. You go in, spend money on the character you want to eye frick and then leave when you get bored.
That said, helmeted characters, especially in Japan are their entirely different genre. henshin tokusatsu especially like kamen rider are pretty much their own brand of tropes. The not-China parts of Mihoyo games are always the blandest. I think that it might be because they're so limited in what they can say. They can't have tyrant governors or a bunch of shifty morally grey characters.
The best not-China in videogames is Jade Empire's setting, and that had a completely corrupt government that took out a religious faction of good guys and complex characters that weren't all complete white hats.
Well at least you can just rush through it now, not like they have to sit and wait months for the china wanking to end. Penacony is great so far, though I think they messed up with how time consuming the mini games and pinball traversals are. Love the atmosphere and music though.
I think one general problem now is balancing encounters. Belobog was well tuned, or I guess it was more about the lower world levels. It was interesting to see new enemies and I struggled with some of the hard encounters guarding chests, but now everything just blows immediately. I have no idea what the new enemies do.
I'm sure these enemies are going to be a real pain in future content. I don't know what that dinosaur chef actually does but I'm honestly a little scared. Just Sam and the death dragon are scary alone.

Because the game spent 7 years on Kiana’s story. Even more when you realize Mihoyo’s previous games both starred Kiana too. So suddenly not having Kiana, Mei or Bronya around and saying it was going to be a totally new cast was a surefire way for players to lose interest before even trying it.
For better or worse, in CN Honkai is pretty much linked with being Kiana’s story.

My biggest problem with HSR right now is it just doesn't have very good writing i.e. they build up characters for literally 1-2 hours and kill them and expect you to be sad but it doesn't hit at all and they rush so much shit. Genshin has terrible pacing and literally hours of useless bloated shit that kills any feeling for the story like 4.1 meandering around that shitty prison for 3 hours.

It's basically Herta spawning gods in front of you, and just like all the writers in human history trying to describe what an experience with a divine being would look like (just go read Dante's Paradiso) yeah, it's completely esoteric dogshit that makes you wonder if it was written with an AI
The actual events of the SU story can be summed up in 1-2 paragraphs. SU just pads the shit out with random quotes and red herrings.

Star Rail has a better cast of characters and the moment to moment writing is a lot better. Paimon makes every single conversation in the game extremely predictable and flow the same. It's always a lore dump or something random about an NPC followed by 1-2 lines of Paimon saying something with an exclamation mark at the end of it.
HSR is unironically significantly better written. Genshin is just generic fantasy stuff, SR can and does delve into history, philosophy and science.

A good comparison would be the events. Star Rail's event is a fun, silly little event about a little cartoon detective and soda manufacturers starting a revolt. It's short, it doesn't outstay its welcome but still pretty amusing. Meanwhile Genshin's event is just a horrific slog of every character you met suddenly declare the new guy is so kind and respectful despite never having met him before, with said new guy suddenly knowing everyone down to even knowing that Xianyun is an adeptus without any reason for that whatsover. Then you get to spend three whole quests with everyone deciding they want to help with his family drama because he's just so kind and respectful and it's not until the final part do you actually get to enjoy anything remotely resembling Lantern Rite.
Actually just had a buddy quit Genshin over it because he doesn't have as much time to play anymore and by the third hour he wasn't even done with the third quest in the event series and was bored to death. The funny thing it kind of sounds like GI took it to heart that they should involve playable characters more in quests instead of some random NPC, but then it sounds like they completely misfired with it. I think one of the early shockers for me was doing a side quest at launch in HSR and then suddenly Pela just became part of the side quest.
I hate that I like the way Genshin chars look a lot and like Genshins world but I'm always hesitant to ever do character quests in it because I just know 90% of it is going to be a slog and not super interesting whereas in HSR its straight and to the point and usually funny or gives feels pretty quickly. Luofu main story wasn't great, but side events like the ghost hunt event were fine. Belobog was solid, and the Pokemon/Topaz event made me realize I did actually like Belobog's cast. Penacony has been solid.
That's what I mean though, HSR has actually decent writers who know what they're doing and don't rely on a sappy bullshit, endless text and NPCs to tell a story.

Bruh. There was a AMA session with a gacha industry veteran that was claiming those sites were underreporting the actual numbers. If anything, Genshin and the other gacha games made more than those guesswork numbers.
The thing is what people don't realize about those monthly gacha revenue charts is that the only revenue included is what was sold through Apple story and Google Store. Any game that has a PC client is being under reported because the guy making the chart doesn't have access to that data. Games like HSR, Genshin, Nikke, while already being near top of the chart, are probably even further ahead.
Funny thing is HSR actually doesn't let you skip story dialogue until the voice over is pretty much done... sometimes, it's kind of inconsistent.

It's because of the characters animations. They FIRST have to play out, you can't skip the dialogue until they're done and depending on how early they happen through the dialogue it's either an instant skip or not even skippable until the very hand.
This problem got bigger with Penacony tho, I feel like, going through the story I'm a fast reader and it almost reminded me of playing Genshin's story with the clunky as hell skipping through the cutscene. Never felt like this before. But Penacony characters had tons of animations through dialogues compared to before, so it makes sense. At least the story is good and the NPC sidequest dialogue is still an instant super fast skip like before even though Penacony sidequests were pretty good

AI should be limited to minor assets that are cut and paste material. Grass, trees, plates and silverware, minor buildings, minor NPCs, etc. Use it to make massive areas that were previously impossible without overuse of the same assets or oversized art teams.
Major assets like major characters, major enemies, and major set pieces should be handcrafted.

HSR is decently generous with what they give out. They kind of embraced the game being a side game that people come back to at the start of the patch, and then take it easy until the next patch.
It's just funny to me how despite being a "sidegame", it gets more care and more genuine love than the "main game". But I guess this is bound to happen when you put a passion project next to something only meant to generate income.

I think a large part of it is because the TB doesn't have a stand-in to speak for them like Paimon does for Adventurer. TB also seems to becoming more and more of their own character since they've been speaking more and vocalizing their thoughts more with every patch.
I doubt it was intentional on the part of the devs but I'm really glad they said frick it and had TB voice shit and become a real character.
What I don't get about Paimon is she isn't just a stand in. She has to do these fricking marvel quips with an exclamation mark everytime and talk about herself in the first person. "Oooooh, Paimon loves Black folk!" Stelle is just an amazing murder hobo
