Ignore all other anons. Download Mario and the Cursed Castles first.

Also, use the romhacking.net launcher. Let’s you search all available rom hacks, sorted by quality and whatnot and patch your rom with one click. One of the best applications ever made. This is 100% required download.

Sorry, I fricked up the site name. See here

              https://parallel-launcher.ca/

Once it’s installed, go to romhacking.com and make an account quick. This app will give you enough content for a lifetime x 10, and an easy way to find new romhacks and such. God speed

Also, here is the link to my personal favourite Romhack. Perfect for people just getting into them in my opinion. Full 121 stars. Had a blast playing through it last year.

              https://romhacking.com/hack/super-mario-and-the-cursed-castles

And once parallels is installed, you can click the download button on that page, and it will do all the patching and stuff for you.

What's the best way to play these romhacks? Just install some famous emulator hub like Retroarch and load the game? Or there are correct setups that we need to follow?

For m64 specifically, use mupen64plus. Substantially better comparability. iIRC the parallel launcher will install everything for you.

If you visit romhacking.com, browse until you find one you want to play. Click the “want to play” option on the right of the page. It will show up in parallels launcher. Double click on it and it will patch + run it for you.

The app is fool proof, just follow instructions. Or ask specific questions if you run into them.

But does this work with Parallel, though? I don't wanna use any HLE plugins.

You can select plugins from within parallels. Some romhacks need certain plugins, so it installs them all to be safe.

Really digging it so far, I like when Brodute dips into more difficult level design, 5.5 is one of my favorites and in some ways this feels like that.

Like 5.5 with longer challenges but less soul

I wish Zelda 64 had even half the mod support that Mario 64 does.

I can't get into this world of romhacks for Mario 64. The controls in this game, while perfectly usable even by today's standards, are extremely unpleasant in my opinion. Controlling Mario is about as enjoyable as driving a garbage truck in a racing simulator.

same, the controls are god awful. I guess it's a learned experience
