honestly, that was a better story than whatever the Chucklefricks could come up with.
better with the A.V.I.A.N. ship AI mod because she fit the narrative better than default AI
I just wish there was a fricking point to anything.
It's cool that Colonies require you to actually decorate to get the npcs you want, but then there's no colony defense, there's no colonist synergy, there's no unique rewards or items to get based on the colonist's race.
It's cool that each planet has its own monsters, biome, sub-biomes, and structures that can generate in it, but then there's no unique weapons, tools, or resources to be found in them. There's no bosses that can only be spawned in pyramids that would lure you to go there. There's no zookeeper that wants unique monsters, or any wiener fighting rings to make use of the capture ball mechanic.
It's cool that you have a mech, but the space boarding system feels underbaked as well. There could be alien ruins floating out in space that you explore in your mech. Boarding ships and whether they're friend or hostile could've tied into a reputation system, especially since IIRC it came hand in hand with the Bounty Hunter update. Instead, mechs just exist to let you skip gear requirements in mining dangerous planets more quickly.
There's so many really nice systems that feel like they could really tie together to make one of the best sandbox games of all time, but the devs have abandoned it and the modding community hasn't done much to alleviate it. Like you'd think teleporters inside structures that required a special item would've been easy to add to the structure generation files, or that anything else could be added now that the source code leak, but nothing's materialized.
If you beat up a monster enough, you can throw a pokeball at them. Once they're captured, you can have them follow you around and fight for you on your adventures, or post them up as pets around your base
do not recall this at all and I got to just past the pink goo mine boss where they started pushing a space bike and a mech on me despite both being way out of my league
Pokeymen are buried somewhere in the crafting menus. The mechanic is oathetic and vestigial and your pet dies from loud noises so it's not even worth engaging with. I caught a drone (frick if I know how that works) with it and put an upgrad ein it that makes sure it will never fight so I can keep it as a vanity pet.
I just wish there was a fricking point to anything.

qrd on the downfall of this game? i always read these opinions from Ganker and even reddit here where they say that this game had a huge potential but failed to give it. is this cause of the success of Terraria?
You could say starbound's failure had nothing to do with terraria, but that's not the entire truth. Tiy was always jealous of it but his autism was far too potent and his """vision""" involved gutting projects that significantly more talented people had literally already finished among other scummy things inside the dev space.
Theres some blog posts floating around elsewhere from former devs talking about they had some super cool gun customization system finished and ready and Tiy was like "nah guns are for morons make more swords that only swing one way"
Keep in mind that those posts were made by Rhopunsel, a literal troony that decided to make his own Starbound with blackjack and hookers and ended up with Farworld Pioneers which just barely managed to crawl out of Mostly Negative relatively recently into Mixed.
>release beta of sandbox game with impressive core features (for a beta) and cool lore >updates just keep remaking progression mechanics over and over again >can't work on putting in gameplay features because you have to make a subpar story mode for the sandbox game >revolving door of unpaid interns can only get so much work done >end up adding barebones mech combat and fossils and then dropping development entirely
the game always felt like a demo. there were some good mods too and i sunk a couple hundred hours into the game with my friends but it never really got polished into anything complete
just keep remaking progression mechanics over and over again
It was a much better game at the start and each "update" made it worse and worse
They even rewrote all the cool lore so they add that lame ass story
If they just released it as it was at the start I think it would have been liked a lot more than it is now

Just a game jam packed with shit features.

i hate how the game is so abysmally shit that it makes actually playing for the fetish mod bad.
why couldnt terraria have gotten the WG mod?
>why couldnt terraria have gotten the WG mod?
I mean, Terraria's character sprites are very low res and not very appealing.
Starbound's has better proportions and more options for customization.
I remember enjoying the pre-launch versions of the game and having a pretty good time building shit. It is a fricking waste what they did with this game
>Download starbound again >New character >Frackin universe >Defeat first boss on moon >Barely have enough food to last >Progression cliff arrives >Too much stuff to do >All over the place >Quit
Every single time. And i know most of you are going to blame FU, but how else can i customize my ship?

better with the A.V.I.A.N. ship AI mod because she fit the narrative better than default AI
I bought into this fricking game way back then in Early Access, and it honestly felt that with each big update the game became worse. Didn't help that the game was lagging like frick when there was any place with a shitload of furniture and enemies. Now that the game is done and no one gives a frick about it anymore, is there a point to playing through it or should I just let it sit in my library untouched and ashamed of my stupidity?
The only good thing was the music playing system and playing some stupid rock songs with shitty instruments along my bros.
its the exact opposite of terraria. which is why its shit.
terraria: dense world with lots of unique shit to find
starbound: vast world with absolutely nothing to find.
what the frick were they thinking? you visit planet to planet and all you can find is some settlements that have nothing to offer and are the same on every planet with a different painting
"""story""" is also incredibly tedious and boring. dogshit bosses on top.
the game looks charming but thats really all it has. fracking universe has some neat ideas but also has a lot of problems. pure failure of a game
impossible to recommend this game to my friends
morons just immediately think of terraria and refuse to try it
Based friends ignoring your Chucklefrick shilling.
It is pretty similar.
well, its a worse version of terraria, essentially. not worth playing over terraria at all.
It was better when it was literally terraria in space.
They turned it into cringe in spaaaaaaaaaaceeeeeeee
i don't
I'll miss all the erp I had.
You 'n me both.
Hologram pussy hologram pussy!
Then go play it, you fricking mongoloid.
shit game; kys
I miss all the ERP I never got to have
Give me a guide and I'll be a prostitute for you, big shot
Sorry, I wanted to be the prostitute. We cannot do the e-sex.
Also I'd need to reinstall the game and figure out how the new Sexbound works first
I just wish there was a fricking point to anything.

Oh yeah this game did Palworlds Shit before Palworld existed.
Antishillbot broke?
Avali were a fun race and I don't care what shitters think about them.
Cute fluffy space raptors is a golden idea.
they are not in the game dumbass, that's a mod
I know that smart ass
shut the frick up you little pussy

the game that made me never trust israelitestarters or crowdfunding again
I always thought Novakids were neat.
