The cave has always been a very small aspect of the player's income. Pretty much pocket change. If you're relying on the cave to make your farm work, then you're a giant failure. Just turn of the game, and play something even more casual. It literally doesn't matter.

mushrooms are a lot easier to get now with tree stumps that grow mushrooms every copule days. If you are going maximum autism then you would go for fruit bats to get fruit earlier for bundles. To somewhat level the playing field, they added a dehydrator if you go with mushroom caves.

When I fish in this game, I notice i get trash a lot. Is there a reason for this? The early Harvest Moon games have a mechanic where if you litter too much, you catch more trash. Surely that mechanic isnt in Stardew right? Maybe Im just unlucky. But when I fish in the river it feels like I catch trash over 50% of the time even in the deep areas
you get a lot more trash at low skill, and almost none at higher levels. also the cave ponds are full of trash for some reason

If you can, try making the special fish bait after you catch one. It gives you like 5-8 special bait per fish and it works

I would buy the Fiberglass Rod from Willy before you upgrade any of your other tools, being able to use bait makes fishing literally twice as fast. But again, keep saving your money for Summer crops.
