I don't necessarily believe in the allegations (I've seen no evidence, innocent till proven guilty, etc) but this doesn't sound that unbelievable if you've ever listened to/read a Soule interview where he explains the meanings and thought-process behind his songs. The guy describes everything- not just vocals, but everything- in masculine/feminine terms and it's not uncommon for really impressionist minds (i.e. most composers) to use music to represent themes like sex and libido (I think Eric Satie interpreted his own songs similarly). Can't say I really get it but then again I'm not a composer.

last month when i was playing Stellaris i just the ost flow in-game and suddenly i thought i turned on SF trailer because most of the song sounded straight out of the main theme, too suspicious especially for know lazy dev like Bethesda but on the other hand Stellaris are DLC israelites so ok i guess.

The mood of that song is incredible and what he accomplishes with such few notes, and the textures as well with the strange sounding instruments, don't even know what they are but it's great.
Like at 1:34, very few notes but its so evocative and sounds so great, that same instrument plays again at 3:24 alongside the string instrument which is very melodic and beautiful sounding.

I kinda get what you mean, a lot of Skyrim's music has direction to the song with substantial enough change and flow that can alone give a feeling of purpose to you even just walking around.
Like frick, listening to this is goes through and establishes like 4 or 5 separate motifs that it runs through that give motion to the song and a feeling of progress to your current journey.
The only ambient tracks that don't seem to really have this as much are dungeon themes which it makes sense to not have because it wants to dial you into the moment more and keep your attention on whatever you're exploring.

Soules announced he wasn't working with Bethesda on TES6 months before the first allegations surfaced and a year or two after they had already started work with Zur on Starfield's music. He was NEVER going to touch the game.

Inon Zur is meh, his music definitely fits well with the games he works on but there's not much to dig your teeth into. His stuff was great for FNV with the eerie, aleatoric segments. Whereas I actually disabled the music on FO4 because it detracted from the atmosphere so nuch.
Jeremy Soule's music on the other hand is divinely inspired, he's at the top of his league and basically the John Williams of the video game industry. His work basically carries Skyrim half the time and makes the game seem more interesting than it otherwise would be. If it's not on ES6 then it's game over.

Ah yes, my favourite, the "orchestral" soundtrack with one or two notes stretching into forever. I love that soundtrack, which is why I'm happy it's present in every movie and AAA video-game ever.
This seems pretty good. Reminds me of oldschool Spielberg movies, for some reason. Like the music invokes some sense of "you're about to see a magical journey" which is perfect if this is what plays the first time you venture away from the starting planet.

I imagine that the song that OP posted is more of a song that just plays passively in the background while the focus is on what's happening in the game. It's not something such as a Souls-like boss fight music where the music is almost the center piece.
Jeremy managed to make atmospheric, ambient soundtracks that bled seamlessly into the exploration but still felt distinct without completely prying your attention away from the game. Secunda feels playful and watery, Masser feels ancient and stoic, Tundra feels foreboding and anticipatory, not to mention all the more contextual tracks like the tavern osts (A Chance Meeting) and palace songs (Imperial Throne)
Meanwhile all of Zur's stuff sorta melts into this gelatinous pool of indistinct, ambient bleh but it could be that I haven't given it enough time. Any Zur appreciators wanna explain why they love such and such tracks?

Good video. I guess it makes sense what they are doing with the music in this game. Having the music be the "companion" as they described it is probably a good idea for a game that people might play for several hundreds or several thousands of hours. The music will likely just flow and you'll never feel like you're actually listening to the same songs over and over and over again.
That's the thing though- the Skyrim tracks never distracted me. Soule must've struck some sort of perfect balance between sinking-into-the-background ambience (Zur) and gaudy, borderline Operatic loudness (Yuka Kitamura). That, or I'm just irrationally attached to Skyrim's OST because of my experiences with the game and whatnot. I don't know enough about music on a structural level to give words to the gap I feel between Soule and Zur.
Find a israeli artist in any medium, they're obsessed with deconstructionism. Making intentionally bad music because its too 'distracting' is dumb. Music and art separates video games from skinner boxes, they aren't distractions.

The mood of that song is incredible and what he accomplishes with such few notes, and the textures as well with the strange sounding instruments, don't even know what they are but it's great.
Like at 1:34, very few notes but its so evocative and sounds so great, that same instrument plays again at 3:24 alongside the string instrument which is very melodic and beautiful sounding.
He does the same thing with his themed tracks too, there's no hook, there's nothing actually there for the listener to latch onto

I kinda get what you mean, a lot of Skyrim's music has direction to the song with substantial enough change and flow that can alone give a feeling of purpose to you even just walking around.
Like frick, listening to this is goes through and establishes like 4 or 5 separate motifs that it runs through that give motion to the song and a feeling of progress to your current journey.
The only ambient tracks that don't seem to really have this as much are dungeon themes which it makes sense to not have because it wants to dial you into the moment more and keep your attention on whatever you're exploring.

Inon Zur is meh, his music definitely fits well with the games he works on but there's not much to dig your teeth into. His stuff was great for FNV with the eerie, aleatoric segments. Whereas I actually disabled the music on FO4 because it detracted from the atmosphere so nuch.
Jeremy Soule's music on the other hand is divinely inspired, he's at the top of his league and basically the John Williams of the video game industry. His work basically carries Skyrim half the time and makes the game seem more interesting than it otherwise would be. If it's not on ES6 then it's game over.

I imagine that the song that OP posted is more of a song that just plays passively in the background while the focus is on what's happening in the game. It's not something such as a Souls-like boss fight music where the music is almost the center piece.
Jeremy managed to make atmospheric, ambient soundtracks that bled seamlessly into the exploration but still felt distinct without completely prying your attention away from the game. Secunda feels playful and watery, Masser feels ancient and stoic, Tundra feels foreboding and anticipatory, not to mention all the more contextual tracks like the tavern osts (A Chance Meeting) and palace songs (Imperial Throne)
Meanwhile all of Zur's stuff sorta melts into this gelatinous pool of indistinct, ambient bleh but it could be that I haven't given it enough time. Any Zur appreciators wanna explain why they love such and such tracks?

Good video. I guess it makes sense what they are doing with the music in this game. Having the music be the "companion" as they described it is probably a good idea for a game that people might play for several hundreds or several thousands of hours. The music will likely just flow and you'll never feel like you're actually listening to the same songs over and over and over again.
That's the thing though- the Skyrim tracks never distracted me. Soule must've struck some sort of perfect balance between sinking-into-the-background ambience (Zur) and gaudy, borderline Operatic loudness (Yuka Kitamura). That, or I'm just irrationally attached to Skyrim's OST because of my experiences with the game and whatnot. I don't know enough about music on a structural level to give words to the gap I feel between Soule and Zur.
Find a israeli artist in any medium, they're obsessed with deconstructionism. Making intentionally bad music because its too 'distracting' is dumb. Music and art separates video games from skinner boxes, they aren't distractions.
