They are actually referring to the leaked documents. Starfield was expected to earn $900 million over 4 years since the original 2021 launch.

Ouch. It would have made it if it released on ps4, xbone, PS5 and xbox series x as they originally planned. Releasing on just steam and xbox sex with its tiny install base, and gamepass day 1, is guaranteed "flop". It will sell 3-4 million in the first year. It may have sold a lot of xbox consoles and gamepass subscriptions, but we'll never get those figures even if microsoft can track it somehow. Tbh, I suspect microsoft cares more about console sales and gamepass subscriptions than they do about game sales. In the short term selling 10 million copies might generate more revenue, but selling half a million consoles and a million gamepass subscriptions would earn them more money in the long term.

The game reach 10M players so it made around $600M already which is on par with their forecasts here the only difference being that the game got delayed so instead of earning $600 in 21 they earned it in 23

That was $600M in the first year, before the buyout, which was perfectly reasonable. MS knew they were going to take a hit not releasing on PS and got almost 2M $100 premium editions alone by best estimation.

I have no chips in this game. I don't really care if Starfield had flopped or not. I am of the camp that the game seems heartless, and I don't respect the current video game medium. But with the amount of things making a billion now, I'm suspicious that something is being faked, or just that most media has become so limited, that there are going to be 2 or 3 things in their respective mediums each year that make a billion now, and this is unimpressive.

Something like Titanic making a billion when it did is different from something making a billion now. Inflation is one of the reasons.

At this point, 2 billion would be closer to the old billion milestone.

Yes, they expected to make 600M in 2021 when the game was supposed to come out.
Two years of delay, much lower sales than expected, and middling reception will probably not make it earn that much.
I guess M$ can take care of the bills, but I do wonder how shareholders feel about gaming becoming bigger and bigger, but Xbox keeps on losing more money every year.

As someone who never really cared for Bethesda games, it's really strange to me that mist people went from loving them, to despising them, npw im not implying that somehow 90% of the hate was caused by bitter Snoys mad that Starfield is an exlcusive, since Playstation has always been known for being the worst platform to play Bethesda games on, so what caused it exactly since Todd has been known as a bullshitter since forever?

What people loved about Bethesda games was the big open-world that you could just walk around and occasionally shoot people in. Eventually you learn the landmarks and gain mastery over everything. That's completely missing in Starfield. It's just small hubs with nothing interesting.
